Terrific Chinese sausages, prepared different ways. I bring an ice chest and plenty of cash every time I go here. It's impossible to not fall in love with their gyoza or shanghainese style dumplings. Apparently their claim to fame is that they use a certain type of brown sugar that lends a deeper, distinctive flavor to their sausages and dumplings. You might notice the sausages are lighter, with a touch of sweetness, and less of the oily overtones that characterize the typical chinese sausages. Eat them with honey, or raw garlic -- that's my favorite so far. Of course, there's about 15 different ways to eat the sausage here. But sometimes the simplest is the best. read more

Fairly decent home cooked fare. Exactly what you would expect to have at home. The food somehow lacks a little finesse that I would have liked but it makes up for it with its homely feelings. It was mildly annoying to only accept cash but that's to be expected for smaller businesses. However they should have posted a note on the door or in the menu. My friend knew as he's been there before. I was very upset to see that they opted to use disposable cups for hot water. This is very environmentally unfriendly. read more

Tried this place for the first time. This is a small restaurant located in the corner of a little plaza in Arcadia. Seating is limited as it gets busier in the evening. They do have a good variety of Taiwanese side dishes, snack foods and rice plates. Our friends ordered the dishes that included some dumplings pork chop rice and spicy beef noodles. Everything tasted pretty good. They have a large selection of desserts as well though we didn't try it this time around. Service was OK they were kind of busy to pay attention to us, but when we did call for them, they come right away. I would definitely come back to try their other dishes as they all look really tasty. read more

Sorry to go against the popular 4-star reviews here. There's just been so much rave about the taiwanese sausage here that the first thing I did when I hop to LA is to give it a try. Maybe I wasn't in the right appetite, the basil sausage is just so-so. But, I _was_ surprised by the lean-ness of the sausage (much better than any sausage i've had in my life, including the ones sold in organic markets). I've been going to Sinbala for years now and it's one of the most consistent places I know. I don't think I've ever had a negative experience there except for the wait during busy times. The service has always been friendly and the food tasty. I'm aware that they recently closed because of health department violations but that doesn't really phase me. I've never had a problem after eating their food and their shaved ice is perfect when it gets too hot! read more

This is the best and most authentic Taiwanese place I have found in LA. The servers are pleasant, not the typical rude, terrible service that you get at most Chinese restaurants. Their shaved ice is the best and closest to true Taiwanese style. I haven't had one bad dish yet. I have eaten their noodle dishes, rice dishes, oyster pancake, etc. Their xiao long bao is good too, because it has the soup in the bun. Definitely one of my favorite places to eat. read more

I've been here twice, and both times, it was because my sister absolutely adores their spicy bean curd. She says that nothing else comes close to this stuff, and that it reminds her of the good old days of eating duck meat. Mmmmm. I guess I'm fortunate enough to be able to eat the real thing...though not as often as I would like. Uh oh, I am craving duck now! It's a pretty busy place, but it didn't take too long to get our food. I ordered a noodle soup, and it was good. Hey, I can't complain about food really, because I love food. This place has the best Taiwanese shaved ice in the United States. I loved the Eight Treasured Shaved Ice here and drove an hour and half to eat it while I was in Arcadia. Other things that are good here: stirred fried vegetables, popcorn chicken, sausage and the beef noodle soup. read more

Just tried out this place the other day and boy was it crowded for a dessert/sausage/boba place. I had the Sinbala shaved ice and it was pretty good, a great dessert during these HOT southern California days. I just wish I didn't have to wait in the heat for half an hour for a seat. Also got to try the Oyster Omelette (a Taiwanese classic I've been told) and it was pretty good. The sauce was delicious, too bad I was so full from the shaved ice to have more. Didn't get to try any of the crazy sausage dishes with all those flavors, but did buy the regular sausage home to try. It was very good, nice sweet flavor. I enjoy their shaved ice there. I think its the most authentic one around the San Gabriel Valley. I understand that it gets pretty crowded but their service is extremely quick so the table turnaround time is pretty fast. I am a big fan of their pork chop with rice, definitely a must try. It funny because I live in the area, and I always crave their food on Tuesday, which happens to be the day they are closed! That sucks! haha. There's something comforting and familiar about this place, whether I'm with a big or small group of friends for lunch or a mid-day snack, or with family for dinner. Can't beat the cheap, wide variety of Taiwanese eats and drinks (cash only, though). Some of my favorites include the famous sausage with garlic, squid stew noodle, oyster egg pancake, and of course, the quality shaved ice! I love this place...best Taiwanese food ever and I don't even like Taiwanese food that much. When I go, I usually get the chicken leg w/ rice, sausage w/ rice, their napa pork dumplings, and their fried onion pancake...only if my friends are willing to share with me. Oyster omelette is really good. Not the best I've had but certainly as good as the average Taiwan street vendor. It's all about that sauce and they got the flavor down, just a bit too thin. The meat ball wrapped in glutinous rice (the thing that looks like a silicone boob) has the perfect consistency and the meat with bamboo shoots filling is spot on. Rice noodle with pumpkin is incredible. Wish I had room to try more stuff but I had to save myself for the shave ice!! Which was the best part. I don't care how many calories was in that, so worth it. They put this burnt sugar syrup on there that's insane, I need a bottle of that stuff. read more

Shout out to all my Taiwanese friends in LA for letting me know and dining with me to SinBala: You guys are awesome, as awesome as this place can be!!! Four words to describe the food here: delicious, simple, cheap, and ofc Taiwanese, duh!!! You can never go wrong with the beef noodle soup (niu ru mien) or the sausage rice dish (rice, veggie, sausage, and eggs). Very simple, yet everything comes together to perfection in taste on the plate. Whenever I eat here, I can't help it but feeling that eating a a homemade food made by my mom. The atmosphere, the plating, and the presentation just feels like home, and please take note that I'm not Taiwanese! I wonder how Taiwanese people would feel whenever they eat here? Anyway, my two favorite dishes here are bamboo-shoot pork dish and the other pork dish right below it on the menu (i forgot what it was). The first dish is basically what it is: rice with bamboo-shoot plus this slices of dark braised pork belly! I love the sauce that comes with the pork because it's very good together with rice and the bamboo-shoot! The pork belly itself just melts in your mouth, so soft, tender, and tasty. The other pork dish does not have bamboo shoot, but apparently the pork are put separate from the rice and veggie in a separate bowl. The pork has pretty much similar taste and texture as the first one, but there's this dark-looking and long ingredient that is still enigmatic to me up until now. Don't know what it is, but I love it!! It just gives a really good addition on the pork belly, and this is absolutely my favorite dish. No discredit for the sausage, but pork belly rules! I came here with a group of friends on a weekend and by the look of the long line, I knew it was a good indication of how good the food would be. After about 20-25 minutes of waiting, we were finally seated. This place is not that big so everyone packed close together. Majority of us ordered the #1 option Sausage Rice which is what the restaurant most famous for and the order came out very quickly. I love the way the design of the plate is set up because it feels a lot like a home cooked meal. Although the portion seems to be a bit of the smaller side, the whole plate was very delicious, especially the sausage. Sinbala also offers a lot of options on shaved ices and bobas so I definitely want to come back again in the future to try them out. read more
