Mango bingsoo w/ bananas, lychee jelly, and condensed milk

I've visited Salju countless times over the past 8 years. It's my favorite dessert spot in the SGV, and I always bring out-of-town friends here for the bingsoo. Never change, Salju!! :)

We ordered a small shaved ice, but the portion was still super generous. We also got a crepe loaded with fillings. It was crispy, flavorful, and so delicious. The shop is pretty small with just a few tables, but it's perfect for enjoying dessert. The service was friendly, and overall it's a great spot, especially for summer!

Loved this shaved ice spot! The mango flavor was perfect and the honeydew was super refreshing and not too sweet. The ice was soft and fluffy, which made everything melt perfectly together. Definitely coming back!

It was SO hot this past weekend so we were craving shaved ice to cool down. My fiancé was looking for that specific fluffy texture, and even though it was late, I randomly found this spot on Yelp! The place was pretty crowded, which says a lot. It's small inside but has a mix of big and small tables. We were lucky enough to grab a seat while waiting for our order. The shaved ice was PERFECT. I got matcha and it was bold and strong , and my fiancé got mango and ube! He loved both. They also have tons of toppings to choose from, from fresh fruit to candies, and the portions are huge. The cashier was super friendly and patient while we struggled to pick flavors. Highly recommend if you're trying to beat the heat!

Haven't been here since I was a kid but my friend really loves this place! Parking can be tricky during peak hours since it is a small lot that is shared with other businesses. There are around 6 tables inside and a 2 seater outside. There is a kiosk that you order from. I got the Thai tea shaved ice and t was delicious. Hit the spot for me that night. They have plenty of different flavors and topping to choose from. I'm glad my friend reintroduced this place to me!

We enjoy coming to this spot for dessert when in town! So delicious!!! Black sesame dessert is my fave here. The kids got strawberry and pineapple. They begged to come here. Service is good. The place is usually very packed. Parking is horrible in this plaza normally there's only a handful of spots.

Finally tried out Salju! Last time I came with friends it was packed so we went elsewhere but I'm glad that I came back another time to try. I came for an afternoon snack and was able to find parking in their lot and a table inside to sit. I ordered the Lychee Snow with Strawberries and Mochi toppings. In addition to their normal register where you order with an employee, they have a kiosk off to the side. I placed my order through the kiosk which was easy. My snow dessert came out pretty quickly and for a small size, it was plenty in a serving! The snow was light and fluffy and fully of flavor. Salju is in a small plaza with some parking spaces to be shared with the other businesses. Finding parking in their lot during busy times will be difficult but there's also some street parking available. They several tables inside and a restroom for customers. Friendliness of service could be better but the employee was working the entire front (taking orders, making orders) all alone while someone else was taking care of the back. I'll be back when it's summer time and I come back to visit the 626!

Get the shaved ice! I really like that you can "build your own." There are so many snow flavors, syrups, and toppings to pick from. A medium size was more than enough for me and my partner to share. We had the original milk flavor with condensed milk, which is a combination I would highly recommend. Our mango and strawberry toppings were sweet and fresh. Although not the best shaved ice I've ever had, this is a decent dessert spot in Alhambra with ample seating that is open late.

Salju's shaved ice has a nice texture that is similar Hawaiian shave ice. It's good and doesn't disappoint. With multiple flavors and toppings (jackfruit!!), there is a combination for everyone. They also do crepe, which goes well with the shaved ice, but maybe a bit underwhelming? Small store with just enough seats where it's comfortable, but you'll be in close proximity to other patrons. Limited parking in a shared private lot. Service is more akin to machine ordering and someone will make it and call out your order once it's ready. Salju is a worth while visit.

Lychee shave ice with almond jelly, strawberries & coffee jelly, with condensed milk drizzled over everything. So good!
    Lucy L.

Tasty & refreshing shave ice with a wide variety of flavors, with a creamy yet slightly icy texture. Pick your flavor of shave ice and size, your toppings and flavor syrup and enjoy. We shared the lychee shave ice topped with coffee jelly, almond jelly & strawberries and drizzled with condensed milk. The medium size was huge and very shareable. So yummy that we kept eating although we were full. Our dining companions had the mango shave ice which tasted just like mango. Our other dining companions had the guava shave ice which tasted faintly of the fruit. Busy place with seating & tables. Prices are reasonable.

Matcha is smooth and slightly sweet. Strong flavor matcha with fresh kiwi. Cashier is friendly. Durian is rich, creamy, and has a bold flavor--great if you like durian, but strong for beginners. Texture is super soft and melts fast. Price is cheap and affordable around 8$

My family and I did a weekend trip to California where we tried 3 different Asian shaved ice/bingsu places. While this was our least favorite of the bunch, I still think it tasted great! Very unique flavors were provided, I think we maybe just chose the wrong ones. I got the black sesame which maybe was the wrong choice. A bit too thick and kinda chewy? The traditional injeolmi one was a much better flavor. My family is more used to a Korean style of shaved ice and I believe this is a Taiwanese style, so this also could have been just a lack of knowing this style of shaved ice. I do not think we'd go again but I still enjoyed my experience. Very busy but the servers were quick and polite.

Love Salju Dessert. It's my go to shaved ice/ dessert spot that I always recommend friends to go. I would rate this place a 4.6/5 I love this mom-and-pop dessert shop with some of the best shaved ice and topping selection in the SGV. My only issues with this place is the small parking lot and even smaller establishment. The space can get quite packed and because of the nature of the dessert, tables can get quite sticky and messy fast. At peak hours, it can be hard to find a place to sit and eat shaved ice. Even when people leave, the tables usually aren't clean and it's hard to ask staff to clean them when they're so busy. However, the main stars of the shaved ice and desserts themselves are delicious. I loved the milk-based fluff ice and despite the prices seeming high at first glance, they definitely make your money's worth by filling the containers up to the brim. My friend even noted that they gave too much fluff ice and had trouble finishing it! I love how they have a wide variety of toppings that range from crunchy chocolates to chewy mochi to fresh fruits. I once had a crepe here that I actually enjoyed a little better than T-swirl in Temple City because it wasn't as sweet and was slightly more fresh with the fruit selection. Overall, love this dessert place and I've come to it time and time again throughout the years.

    Bring back the ride balls?

If you mean rice balls, the rice balls have always been there, but may run out as they are in a limited supply

    Are there any dairy-free options?

Yes, we have the regular shaved ice with water based. And you can choose the syrup like chocolate, strawberry, passion fruit, mango, lychee, guava, peach syrup. And choose the toppings as well.

What does original flavor taste like?

Is Salju still open ? I've tried to go a few times in the last two months and they've been closed. :(

Salju is now open. Their hours are 1-7pm. Closed Tuesdays

Can someone please confirm whether Salju is open or closed (permanently)? They have been closed the last 2 times we tried and they don't answer their phone. (March 3, 2020)

I understand it is still open but with new owners.

Is this place good, and is it worth it?

Totally worth it! I make the pilgrimage from Calabasas to get this stuff!

Second Visit & Still Such a Fun Dessert Spot!…read more This was our second visit here, and once again the service and ambience were very welcoming. It's a smaller dessert spot with about 3-4 tables available, but it gives off a cozy and chill vibe that we really enjoyed. This time we got the half-and-half milk and ube ice cream with taiyakis filled with: * taro * red bean * custard * cheesecake * nutella And honestly... I was really surprised that the cheesecake filling was actually delicious! Creamy, smooth, and definitely something I'd order again. The taiyaki itself was warm with that nice slight crisp on the outside, and paired perfectly with the ice cream. Overall, such a fun spot for dessert and definitely a must-try if you're craving taiyakis and ice cream. Happy eats!

The cake was prolly the only one that I thought so-so. Unique flavor with green grape yogurt and taro paste, but just okay in taste. The mini croissants were pretty good for the price. It wasn't like abundantly filled, but certainly not bad for being $2ish esp the salted yolk. The egg tarts should be the reason to come and come back again. Super affordable and the buttery case made them great! The Portugese one was certainly the default one to try but I personally loved the caramel croissant one.

Our Mandatory "After Dinner in Alhambra" Stop…read more Anytime my hubby and I have dinner in Alhambra, this place is basically our automatic next stop. Dinner isn't officially over until we grab ice cream here. It just hits every single time. I'll admit something though -- I am extremely loyal when it comes to flavors. Once I like something, I stick to it forever. But lately I've been trying to step outside my comfort zone a little. One of my long-time favorites here is the Milk & Cereal flavor. It's simple but so good. Recently though, they introduced a Biscoff/ Cookie Butter flavor, and wow... that one is absolutely to die for. Last night they also had a Lunar New Year cookie flavor, which was surprisingly delicious, and then I saw Dubai Chocolate on the menu. Now I'm usually not a chocolate person, but if you put the word Dubai in front of it... suddenly I'm interested. Hubby and I always share, so we ordered two scoops: Cookie Butter and Dubai Chocolate for about $7.50 plus tax. * Cookie Butter - 9/10 * Dubai Chocolate - 7.5/10 (it kind of reminded me of a mint chocolate chip texture... just without the mint) * Added Captain Crunch cereal on top and wah-laaa* The shop itself is nice and cozy. There are a few tables inside and a couple outside -- probably around four total -- and the space feels welcoming and relaxed. Service is always friendly and efficient. Even when there are 8-10 people in line, don't worry -- the line moves fast and you're usually in and out pretty quickly. If you're finishing dinner in Alhambra and craving something sweet, this spot always delivers. Happy eats!
