First time coming here and will not be coming back, as I have been scarred. Checked out this place with friends due a friend's recommendation and the place looked really popular as there were lots of people. Unfortunately, the desserts here gave us the runs. Out of 5 of us, 4 got very sick shortly that night and the days after. TMI, but it was frequent trips to the restroom. We're pretty sure and deduced it was from the dairy-based desserts and drinks. I had the mango pomelo sago drink. Friend A ordered the mango pomelo sago drink and black sesame soup. Friend B ordered the mango sago. Friend C had the milk tea. And we all ended up with stomach issues. Friend D who didn't eat any milk-based items, only yashixiang lemon tea and some of Friend A's black sesame soup , was completely fine. We also ordered a signature coconut jelly dessert soup to-go for another friend when we were leaving, and they had no issues either. That's why we think it was the batch of milk used in our desserts that caused all of this. It honestly had us going to the bathroom for 2 days! If you're coming here, just be aware--you might end up spending a lot of time in the restroom like we did.

Found this little gem after dinner one night and will definitely be coming back! They have a variety of Chinese desserts similar to Meet Fresh. Got the Signature coconut jelly dessert soup and something off the Peach Gum Series. The Signature Coconut Jelly Dessert Soup was my favorite and I was amazed by how many ingredients they put within the bowl. Unfortunately, I wasn't a fan of the Peach Gum series - probably because I wasn't use to the taste and texture of the peach gum. I initially wanted the black sesame dessert but they were sold out of it that evening. Hopefully they'll have it when I visit next time!

Jiu Ji Dessert I stopped in here to try something refreshing and went with the mango pomelo sago. It was an okay dessert overall, but it definitely suffered from the fact that mangos are not in season right now. The fruit just wasn't that sweet or as flavorful as you'd want it to be, which made the whole dish feel a bit underwhelming. Even though this specific order was a bit of a miss, the rest of the menu looks pretty interesting. There are plenty of other desserts there that seem like they are worth a try, so I would probably come back to explore more of their traditional options when I'm in the mood for something sweet again. Good flavors but mango was not in season

This has been my favorite dessert spot in SGV. They offer a wide variety of delicious, healthier dessert options--and the best part, everything is reasonably priced. The space isn't very big, but it's cute and cozy. Every visit feels like a chance to explore something new from the menu, whether dining in or grabbing it to go. This time, the Mango Sago in Coconut Milk was the pick, and the mango portion was impressively generous. The flavor hits that perfect balance of sweet with a slight tang. The staff are pretty chill and helpful when it comes to explaining items on the menu. They also have snacks and light meals that pair well with their drinks and desserts. Definitely a go-to spot when in the area!

    |[ s w e e t ? ]| I'll preface by saying it's not bad and def hits the cravings for an authentic Cantonese/Chinese dessert! Problem is, I like my desserts not too sweet so I wish there were sugar-free or not so sweet options. |[ w h a t i g o t ]| I got the signature taro balls and grass jelly very good but too sweet for my taste buds 3/5. Presentation was pretty, and I like their bowls. |[ y e e ]| Average Asian dessert shop seating ambiance and service was fine. I'd come back if one of my friends wants to come but unless they can adjust down/off the sugar, I prob wouldn't crave this by myself lol.

Stopped by Jiu Jiu Dessert in Alhambra last Thursday around 3 pm with a few friends and it was packed, which is always a good sign. Our server was super helpful and recommended the Mango Pomelo Sago and the Signature Coconut Jelly Dessert Soup. She also suggested the hot Taro Red Bean Sago with coconut milk. We ended up trying all three. All of them were perfectly sweet. Not overly sugary, just balanced and refreshing. The Mango Pomelo Sago was light and fruity, great for a warm day. The hot Taro Red Bean Sago with coconut milk was comforting and smooth, especially if you're craving something warm. But our favorite was definitely the Signature Coconut Jelly Dessert Soup. The texture of the coconut jelly with the creamy base just worked so well together. It stood out the most and is something I would come back specifically for. The ambiance was modern and clean, with soft Chinese pop music playing in the background. Even though it was busy, there was ample seating, so we didn't feel cramped. Parking can be a bit challenging since the lot is shared with a supermarket and other restaurants, so expect to circle around a bit during peak hours. Overall, a great dessert spot with solid recommendations from the staff. I'll definitely be back to try more from their menu.

Long line on a Saturday! We got the jiu ji plus and the taro balls and grass jelly dessert to go. There was a long line ordering and it took a while. I think it's because the menu isn't super descriptive. There are 3 items that have a list of ingredients on a separate menu at the counter. They should list those ingredients on the menu because I have a feeling a lot of people ask "what's in the jiu ji plus?" And then they have to decide if the want to exclude ingredients and that slows down the line. After ordering it's about 15 min to get the order. When we were there the lady was yelling out order numbers only in Mandarin and it wasn't super loud so it's very easily missed if you're not hovering over the counter or speak mandarin! As for the desserts, they were pretty good. It's sweet and you can't adjust sweetness. I like the crunch the nuts give. We saved some for the next day but the taro balls become super hard so eat those the same day! I would come back to the mango ones.

Jiu Ji Dessert (九记八方甜品)- I WOULD COME BACK AGAIN 100% 5/5 Incredible customer service! I mean the workers are constantly working hard cleaning tables, taking orders, managing phone orders and customer service in general. Not to mention, they pulled out a chair to offer us a seat while we wait (above and beyond) 5/5 Food - Mango pomelo sago - PERFECTLY balanced, not too sweet and mangos were just right! - Toast cubes and golden buns - SAME AS ABOVE 4/5 Parking Can be very difficult since the shopping complex is quite busy

So yummy! I tried two things: the Signature Coconut Jelly Dessert Soup, which I got so I can try all the different toppings they offer. They all tasted great together and I loved the little heart jelly. Not too sweet. I also got the Cube Toast which was fun to eat. Crispy on the outside, soft on the inside. Drizzled with evaporated milk. Yum!

Located in a plaza next to a market and several other restaurants, Jiu Ji has delicious drinks and small snacks. I tried the mango pomelo milk tea (less sweet) and it was creamy, not too sweet, and delicious. The drink had bits of fresh mango and pomelo and sago. I was also told they use non-dairy milk for their milk teas. Also picked up an order of their golden buns with condensed milk on the side. They came out hot, and were a bit on the denser side than expected but overall, good fried dough. The taro milk tea lacked taro flavor but the Tremella Peach Gum & Snow Swallow In Coconut Milk (hot) was a great vegan warm dessert on a chilly day like today. Again, Jiu Ji is located in a plaza so parking was easy to find at 7pm on a Thursday night.

Food 4/5: If your into jelly, semi sweet desserts this is a can't miss. The house special was a great after dinner dessert. Not overly sweet, so many tasty additions such as coconut jelly, tarot mocha, red bean. Definitely highly recommend. The swallow/peach sweet treat was also so good. All of their dessert offerings are perfectly sweeten. Service 5/5: The staff was great, really nice sweet people. They really are quick and keep the place really clean. Ambiance 4/5: Nice seating, bright lighting, comfortable atmosphere. Parking is large, so must try location!

Credit Card: They're accepted. Restroom: There a unisex restroom available to use. Location/Parking: Located in plaza on the NE corner of Valley and Vega. Parking is available in the share lot. Ambiance/Decor: Ambiance and decor was alright. Only complaint was that the AC wasn't really working that day. Service: Service was okay. Desserts didn't take long to get to our table. Dessert Of Choice: I ordered the mango pomelo sago. One of their popular desserts. It's made from a base of fresh mango, sago (tapioca) pearls, coconut milk, and pomelo. It was delightful to eat. Jiu Ji Dessert For Thought: I'm open to try other items in their menu. Hopefully, the AC will work better the next time I patronize the shop.

Is the Sesame Paste with Rice Balls Vegan?

I believe most of the desserts and drinks are vegan unless stated fresh milk or uses condensed milk. I had asked when I was there and my dessert had coconut milk. You would have to ask the lady taking your order or give them a call to be certain.

I would recommend getting the salt and pepper pork chop - my dad says this is literally better than most places we've gone to. I think they season the batter, which is how its so flavorful. We also typically get the eggplant, which comes in a huge plate and comes with rice. My dad likes their curry but I'm not super excited about it. Its good, but not exciting, if you know what I mean. Service is typically pretty good. They move around pretty quickly and food typically comes out pretty quickly too. I would spend about 50-60 dollars and its enough food to last two people maybe an additional 2 or 3 meals, especially since most dishes come with a dish of white rice. The rice isn't great, like it's kind of dry, but its free so no complaints here.

The sweet and sour fish used to be lightly battered and nice and meaty. On my last visit, it was heavily battered and you could barely taste the fish. I'm not sure if they changed chefs, but the difference in quality is definitely noticeable. It's disappointing because I really like the staff. They're always friendly and provide great service. Classic Hong Kong-style café in LA never disappoints Dinner specials starting from $9.50…read more My all-time favorite beef chow fun! The dinner specials even include Hong Kong milk tea, coffee, or lemon tea! Huge portions for only around ten bucks! Today during work, I suddenly craved Hong Kong café food So my friend and I ended up going back to this longtime Hong Kong-style café in Monterey Park. These old-school Hong Kong cafés really have a special charm. The vibe feels nostalgic and classic, but the food is still so good! The moment you walk in, you hear familiar Cantonese conversations all around you~ This time we ordered a huge table of food! And their dinner specials are seriously such a good deal right now They already include milk tea, coffee, or lemon tea. Let me start with my favorites The Hong Kong-style luncheon meat & egg sandwich was SO authentic! Toast filled with egg and luncheon meat, plus fries on the side -- instant happiness The club sandwich was also huge! Four big pieces with lots of filling, perfect for sharing with friends. My coworker said the baked pork chop spaghetti is always a safe choice. The tomato sauce is sweet and tangy, super appetizing, and the pork chop was really tender. For the mixed lo mein, we picked beef brisket and beef balls. That alkaline noodle texture feels so classic Cantonese. And the stir-fried beef chow fun had amazing wok hei!! This was everyone's favorite dish of the night -- we literally kept talking about ordering more. Definitely the MVP! Lastly, the eggplant & short rib clay pot completely surprised me! The eggplant was full of flavor, and even the bones of the short ribs tasted braised through. Sometimes after work, having a comforting meal like this with friends really washes away all the work stress

JJ Hong Kong Cafe is one of the long-standing (20+ years) Hong Kong cafés in the San Gabriel Valley…read more(SGV) area with other places like Garden Cafe / Baccali Cafe / Sunday Bistro on Valley Blvd and Tasty Choice on San Gabriel Blvd. [Parking]: There are limited free designated parking spots for the café behind the building. Additional parking spots are available in the underground garage. [Atmosphere]: Upon entry, our party could smell a lingering cigarette odor. Eventually, my nose got used to it. The overall ambiance is not quite as modern as other Hong Kong cafés like HK Macau Bistro in San Gabriel or Hong Kong Cafe in Atlantic Times Square. One TV was playing America's Funniest Home Videos while another one at the bar was showing a NBA game. [Menu]: Yelp's top highlighted items are Indo Fried Rice, Baked Pork Chop, Grilled Chicken Steak, and Beef Chow Fun. Our party actually did not order the correct chow fun on our first visit as it turned out to be a wet (aka saucy) chow fun. For the dry version, the correct order = Beef Chow Fun with Dark Soy Sauce. *** Indo Fried Rice ($13.75): S-tier flavor and definitely recommend this dish. Beef Chow Fun Black Bean Sauce ($16.20): It was basically a wet chow fun rather than a dry chow fun our party was expecting. The flavor was on point, but not as good as the dry version (aka dark soy sauce). Beef Chow Fun with Dark Soy Sauce ($16.20): This was the correct dry chow fun our party was looking for. Savory and delicious noodles, but tasted slightly greasy. Baked Pork Chop ($14.20): Very heavy on the tomato sauce with scrambled egg and cheese. The flavor profile was not bad at all. It had a solid portion and large enough to split into two smaller meals. *** A-tier or 4-star for the food especially Indo Fried Rice and Beef Chow Fun with Dark Soy Sauce (aka dry beef chow fun), but I had to bump down to 3-star due to the minor cigarette smell.

We come here for the low price wonton noodles, steamed spareribs on steamed rice, and the beef rice…read morenoodle rolls. We also order their HK style lemon iced tea. It's pretty good here and they have complimentary refills! They're known for their rice noodle rolls here and you can order them, along with their small dim sum menu, all day long. The wonton noodles here were just $13.98! They come with 5 large wontons and vegetables over wonton noodles. I always recommend adding chili oil. The steamed spareribs on steamed rice have some bones, just like the ones you find at dim sum. But there's a lot of meat in the steamed rice bowl for a single person. Free parking in rear parking lot. Entrance at the front on Garvey Ave. They have 2 entrances in front now. Left door for to-go orders and right door for dine-in.

The staff are great, communication wise, it was a good service. They don't hover around your table. They let you eat in peace then check back every now and then. We ordered several dishes and each and every one of them were tasty. We came before lunch hour so not sure how busy this place gets. Are we going back? Absolutely! This is on my list to go especially for a weekend out.
