    RN1 Shrimp Rice Noodle Roll
    Kevin C.

Ordered to go RN1 Shrimp Rice Noodle Roll, RN2 Beef Rice Noodle Roll, and RN5 BBQ Pork Rice Noodle Roll. Each of these rice noodle rolls was a good portion with very soft rice rolls and a good amount of protein inside. The shrimp were full pieces spread across each roll which was pleasant to see and to eat. The beef rice noodle roll was juicy and good strips laid out evenly. And the BBQ Pork was the favorite of the three with that classic bbq pork flavor from the slices cut into the roll; wrapped inside the rice roll. The light soy sauce included with each of these was a lighter soy sauce which pairs well with how light these are and brought their flavors out more.

Stopped by Steam Fresh for a quick bite before a nearby meeting, so this review is strictly based on just two items: the siu mai and the lotus leaf sticky rice. I appreciated that everything is steamed and prepared on the spot. It definitely tasted fresh and not like it had been sitting around. That said, because it's made to order, I had to wait about 20 minutes for my food...which feels long when you're used to the instant gratification of traditional dim sum carts rolling by with ready-to-eat options. The siu mai was solid and flavorful, and the lotus leaf sticky rice was warm, fragrant, and satisfying. Overall, a good experience for a quick stop, and I'd be interested in coming back on a weekend to dine in properly with the family and try more of their menu. Sorry for no photos of the two items...I scarfed it down so quickly that I forgot about it.

Ambiance: it's a clean and cozy restaurant for Cantonese comfort food, comfortable sofa seats, good for small groups but they have a large round table in the middle of the dining room Service: very friendly and provided useful suggestions regarding their specialities Food & Drink: variety choices for breakfast, dim sum, and other Cantonese cuisines Beef Rice Noodle Roll - **** smooth texture, tasty with soy sauce, recommend Steamed Shrimp Dumplings - *** 4pcs, average taste Steamed Pork Siu Mai - ***** 4pcs, with shrimp and fish eggs, chewy and tender, highly recommend Special Duck Clay Pot - **** duck meat braised with tasty sauce, served with bean curd, recommend HK Style Coffee & Milk Tea - **** creamy taste of tea and coffee mix, recommend Price: overall great quality and reasonable prices, expect $30 per person for a decent meal

Dim sum nowadays is a special treat because it's so pricey. It wasn't always this way. I don't think I'm too picky about dim sum but I do expect certain basics. For example the fillings should be fresh, the portions decent, the look to be appetizing, and for hot food to be hot. Steam Fresh definitely shows promise when it comes to seemingly fresh fillings, decent portions, and temperature. However in the case of the har gow, it looked like it was shredded. The taste was good and I liked how everything was packaged. But to get har gow that was falling apart to me was not great. Overall I liked the friendly staff and was happy that my dishes were cooked to order. Prices are on par with other dim sum places. Har gow (3/5) ample shrimp despite the falling apart wrapped Lo mai gai (3/5) sticky rice and a smattering of meat. I wasn't a fan of the egg yolk but it's a preference thing. Siu mai (3/5) the pork was decent and the overall taste was good Steamed fun w/shrimp (3/5) some shrimp in a steamed rice noodle. Just average Sesame sticky rice roll (3/5) not too sweet, decent black sesame flavor. I'd get this again. Prices are decent. But I guess I'm old school and just expected a bit more for the cost. Service was good! The two ladies working were super friendly and cheerful. The place was empty when I arrived but people eventually trickled in. Parking is great! There's a huge open lot in the back. So getting in and out couldn't be easier. Overall it just a so-so place. I'd probably try other items if I get a craving and happen to be nearby. LOCATION:4/5 FOOD: 3/5 SERVICE: 5/5 VALUE: 3/5 AMBIANCE: 3/5 CLEANLINESS: 4/5 PARKING: 5/5

The ambiance is nice. The service was great. I don't speak the language, so there was a little language barrier but it's no one's fault. The food was phenomenal! And the prices are so reasonable! I will definitely be back and will recommend to all my friends!

Today, finally I have a chance to try this new establishment for its breakfast combo. This is a new place while dim sum is its speciality. I tired its breakfast combo. While, it doesn't has much choices but it was delicious. I have its congee and stir-fry soy sauce noodles. Both of these items are delicious. The service was also attentive and good. I will try other items.

The dim sum is excellent. The taste rivals fancier establishments like Lunasia without the same digs or price. I also liked their handmade rice noodles with cured meat. That's the ultimate comfort food. I want to try their rice balls and black sesame rolls next. Food came out super slow though (at least on the day I went).

Everything is made to order, so i placed an order to-go. They said it would take about 15 minutes. This was about 8am, and they didnt have any egg tarts ready so I couldn't order that. They are super friendly and I was able to use the restroom as I waited. The restaurant was just opening so it was super quiet and no one was dining in just yet. They gave me everything I needed to eat it on the go.

We were craving for dim sum but didn't want to wait at restaurant so we went to the Steam Fresh in Monterey Park today. However, when we tried to order some dim sums and most of the dim sums were not available. (Such as steamed pork BBQ bun, egg tart, fried turnip cake, sesame roll but all were not available). The server told us that they are going to remove all dim sum on the menu soon but have other Chinese dishes, noodle, congee, etc. It was a little disappointing when she told us this news. Anyhow, we were still able to get the steamed pork Siu Mai, steamed shrimp dumplings x 2 (Har Gow), shrimp rice noodle roll, minced pork lo mein, and Yang Chow Fried Rice of this visit. We also ordered a pot of hot tea and they refilled for us twice. For the dim sum quality, the shrimp rice noodle roll was still not bad; however, we didn't like the soy sauce. For the har gow, the shrimps were big inside but the har gow skin was quite thick. It used to be thinner. Minced pork lo mein was Chinese style and the taste was alright. We all liked the steamed pork Siu Mai with fish roe a lot. They were still very delicious and big. Yang Chow fried rice was also tasted pretty good but we waited for about 15 minutes. It took a bit too long for that order though. The server asked us if we would like to try their other new dishes but we were quite full today. I think that it would be challenging for them if they keep changing the business type. Their food is pretty good but they have to find out what kind of food makes them stand out and then they should stick with it. Honestly, I like their dim sum the most, I used to give them 5 stars review about 3 months ago but now I have to update the review to about 3.5 stars. Hope they will do well after they change their menu.

Dim sum is historically eaten during lunch/breakfast so after finding a dim sum spot that closes at 7PM, I knew I had to give this place a shot. They ran out of the bbq pork buns so we got the curry chicken bun which were really good! The owner even gave us some extra food for the inconvenience and possibly because it was almost 7PM We did an online order and ordered 9 dim sum dishes. Most dishes were delicious and our favorites were the siu mai, har gow, shrimp / chive dumplings. Siu mai was super thicc and had a generous amount of meat with lots of fish roe. I enjoyed the ham sui gok filling a lot but it needed more filling. My least favorite was the spare ribs too little meat. This place is really good with friendly workers and I'd come here again!!

    * Bright, simple ambience. Very nice contemporary Chinese music playing. * Waitresses were very nice and helpful. We ordered in Cantonese. * Food was really good! - Shrimp Rice Roll - didn't have as much flavor as we wanted (perhaps the sauce) but got better as we ate; very good texture though. Will try it again next time. - Chow Mein - very good! Reminded me of the simple HK chow mein flavors. A classic dish and worth ordering. - Fish Ball Soup Noodles - the fish balls were intriguing; never had it with this texture, definitely different from other fish balls in the area. Noodles and broth were flavorful. Worth getting. - Taiwanese Cabbage - this was delicious! Flavorful and crunchy texture. Very surprised by how rich this tasted. Highly recommended! Will return to try again!

My brother suggested having lunch at Steam Fresh because we don't have turkey plans. Opened earlier in this year, the Cantonese-Chinese restaurant is located off Garvey & Ynez Aves. in Downtown Monterey Park. At the entrance, there's a cute dumpling mascot to the left of the door. The small dining room has 10 tables & booths that seats between 2 - 8 guests, with a unisex restroom in the back. Since the opening, the menu has been revised with a 20% decrease in items to enhance proficiency, particularly items that are more labor intensive. My kids really wanted to try the Sugar Puffs, Creamy Egg Tart, Green Onion Pan Cake, & Chinese Sausage Roll. I was happy to discover some Cantonese cuisine that's familiar & comforting, & our server Wu姊姊 speaks Cantonese so I can practice my mother tongue. There was a couple of dishes that I already picked out: Stir-Fried Cauliflower with Preserved Meats & Special Duck Clay Pot from the chalk written specialty menu, & added our staples: Chinese Cruller, Shrimp Rice Noodle Roll, Steamed Pork Siu Mai, Steamed Shrimp Dumpling. I mentioned my parents' province & Wu姊姊 suggested the Stir-Fried Handmade Rice Noodle with Cured Meat. I forgot to bring my own stash of loose leaf teas, & order a pot of Pu-Erh, & a bottled pear juice for the kids to share. The kids enjoyed the pear juice; it was mellow in pear flavor & sweet, but not cloyingly sweet. The pu-erh was decent with a crisp, grassy flavor. You won't see more developed pu-erh tea at standard Chinese restaurants that has a smooth, & more complex woody, earthy flavor, though the banquet restaurants may have a hidden stash of higher grade teas for their preferred customers. We started with my son's fav: 油炸鬼 (Chinese cruller), followed by the steamed dim sum. The cruller had a crispy exterior, & fluffy, airy interior that's not heavy with oil. The rice rolls were tender with plump shrimp that had a bite to them, though it was skimpy with shrimp; with 3 rice rolls, there were 1 - 2 shrimp per roll. The shrimp dumplings & siu mai were pretty large with a generous filling; good flavor, nothing outstanding. The last 3 dishes were the best in the group: Special Duck Clay Pot, Stir-Fried Handmade Rice Noodle with Cured Meat, Stir-Fried Cauliflower with Preserved Meats. The duck was tender (that easily falls apart) & savory, but needed white rice as an accompaniment to rich, fatty duck juices. While the handmade rice noodle reminds me of home comfort foods, the chewy noodles were a tad greasy, otherwise, it's a tasty dish that's balanced with smoky, umani cured meats. My fav from the group is the Chinese cauliflower; it has a more delicate, sweeter taste than the standard cauliflower. Topped with wood ear mushrooms, carrots, green onions, onions, & smoky preserved meats, I could barely stop eating this dish even though I was full. I can eat this plate on my own, or maybe 2. Nom, nom, nom delish! Prices are moderate, & dim sum is on the lower side with regular to generous portions. There's been a 5% increase on dim sum, but still cheaper than most dim sum restaurants in SGV, though offerings are limited to 9 items. Menu is broken down by: dim sum, appetizers, congee, rice noodle roll, rice, meat, clay pot, chef's special, noodle, vegetable, desserts, beverages. Fantabulous service... friendly, efficient, & kind; Wu姊姊 warned me about the clay pot's heat & placed it away from the kids so they don't burn themselves. I infrequently dine in SGV, especially when I'm visiting my brother who lives out here, so I definitely will be back at this delish Cantonese restaurant! Recommended: Stir-Fried Cauliflower with Preserved Meats (must have!), Stir-Fried Handmade Rice Noodle with Cured Meat (family fav), Special Duck Clay Pot, Chinese Cruller, Shrimp Rice Noodle Roll (yummy roll but skimpy on filling), Steamed Pork Siu Mai, Steamed Shrimp Dumpling, White Rice, Pu-Erh Tea, Pear Juice with Rock Sugar Drink.

Came here with my dad for a quick lunch. Its a new spot so we were eager to try. We ordered a few rice noodles, chicken, noodles and dim sum classics. Everything was made fresh to order. The highlight was definitely the rice noodles as the texture was amazing. Service was normal for an asian establishment. Lots of parking in the lot or street.

The sweet and sour fish used to be lightly battered and nice and meaty. On my last visit, it was heavily battered and you could barely taste the fish. I'm not sure if they changed chefs, but the difference in quality is definitely noticeable. It's disappointing because I really like the staff. They're always friendly and provide great service. 11/10 if that's an option!…read more I recommend two things: 1) Last time I was here, the House Special Filet Mignon Cubes ($20.50) was so good that my party ordered another one. The beef is thick yet somehow tender, and the sauce is perfectly glazed over the meat. 2) I also love the seafood chow mein ($15.95)! When trying a bite, make sure to get both soft and crunchy parts of the noodle haha, changing the texture makes a difference in the overall taste!

Their new breakfast special includes congee, a dim sum item, a side, and a drink. I do like that there are now more options for the breakfast sides. Unfortunately, the congee tastes different now. This used to be my favorite spot for pork and black egg congee, but my last order was watery and bland instead of thick and flavorful like before. I did enjoy the pork siumai and shrimp spring roll from the dim sum selection. I also tried the pineapple bun, but I expected it to be softer and more moist. The portion was also pretty small. I like that most of their drinks can be ordered unsweetened, but they only offer Sweet'N Low instead of Stevia or Splenda. I also recently tried the kung pao chicken and didn't enjoy it. The sauce didn't taste like traditional kung pao sauce, and the dish had very few vegetables and mostly onions. It's unfortunate because the food quality and flavor don't seem as good as they used to be.

So sad the one in temple city closed down! However, this one is still open!…read more We enjoyed seafood palace in las tunas and decided to come here to give it a try. First, parking was so difficult!! So many cars crammed close to each other and the restaurant wasn't even full, but we parked in the street nearby. The place had plenty of seating when we arrived, spacious tables that fit our group of 16. We had a large party and split into two tables, each table had peanuts and tea, we also ordered our own bit with the same serve at the same time. We ordered our usual dishes such as corn soup, honey walnut shrimp, salt and pepper squid, sal and pepper pork chops, filet beef dish, hainan chicken and many more. The service seemed slow, the bad part is that our other table got all their dishes while we had none. It took a while before our first dish arrived which was honey walnut shrimp, it was good, a bit soggy but flavorful. We asked for rice and started eating, once most of the shrimp was gone the rest of the dishes came. They were delicious, they tasted great and had good portions. The pork chop was great fresh but soon started to get tough as it cooled. The fried squid had parts that were very seasoned and some bland. My sister in law ordered a seafood tofu dish that was the best one but we ate everything before I took a photo. We also shared dishes across the tables to try out our orders. I tried the fried crab but it had more garlic than crab! The restroom was the sad part, there was no toilet paper, and no paper towels. The women's restroom door was propped wide open as well. I had to call my sister to bring in napkins for me... Overall a great meal, we may come back if the occasion allows.

It's has a dim sum vibe where food runners wear white button ups black pants and managers wear the same with a vest and badge. The service started out really slow but once the first dish came out everything else came out. We ordered family style and I didn't catch the name of any of the dishes but everything was Soo good

Classic Hong Kong-style café in LA never disappoints Dinner specials starting from $9.50…read more My all-time favorite beef chow fun! The dinner specials even include Hong Kong milk tea, coffee, or lemon tea! Huge portions for only around ten bucks! Today during work, I suddenly craved Hong Kong café food So my friend and I ended up going back to this longtime Hong Kong-style café in Monterey Park. These old-school Hong Kong cafés really have a special charm. The vibe feels nostalgic and classic, but the food is still so good! The moment you walk in, you hear familiar Cantonese conversations all around you~ This time we ordered a huge table of food! And their dinner specials are seriously such a good deal right now They already include milk tea, coffee, or lemon tea. Let me start with my favorites The Hong Kong-style luncheon meat & egg sandwich was SO authentic! Toast filled with egg and luncheon meat, plus fries on the side -- instant happiness The club sandwich was also huge! Four big pieces with lots of filling, perfect for sharing with friends. My coworker said the baked pork chop spaghetti is always a safe choice. The tomato sauce is sweet and tangy, super appetizing, and the pork chop was really tender. For the mixed lo mein, we picked beef brisket and beef balls. That alkaline noodle texture feels so classic Cantonese. And the stir-fried beef chow fun had amazing wok hei!! This was everyone's favorite dish of the night -- we literally kept talking about ordering more. Definitely the MVP! Lastly, the eggplant & short rib clay pot completely surprised me! The eggplant was full of flavor, and even the bones of the short ribs tasted braised through. Sometimes after work, having a comforting meal like this with friends really washes away all the work stress

Additional parking spots are available in the underground garage. [Atmosphere]: Upon entry, our party could smell a lingering cigarette odor. Eventually, my nose got used to it. The overall ambiance is not quite as modern as other Hong Kong cafés like HK Macau Bistro in San Gabriel or Hong Kong Cafe in Atlantic Times Square. One TV was playing America's Funniest Home Videos while another one at the bar was showing a NBA game. [Menu]: Yelp's top highlighted items are Indo Fried Rice, Baked Pork Chop, Grilled Chicken Steak, and Beef Chow Fun. Our party actually did not order the correct chow fun on our first visit as it turned out to be a wet (aka saucy) chow fun. For the dry version, the correct order = Beef Chow Fun with Dark Soy Sauce. *** Indo Fried Rice ($13.75): S-tier flavor and definitely recommend this dish. Beef Chow Fun Black Bean Sauce ($16.20): It was basically a wet chow fun rather than a dry chow fun our party was expecting. The flavor was on point, but not as good as the dry version (aka dark soy sauce). Beef Chow Fun with Dark Soy Sauce ($16.20): This was the correct dry chow fun our party was looking for. Savory and delicious noodles, but tasted slightly greasy. Baked Pork Chop ($14.20): Very heavy on the tomato sauce with scrambled egg and cheese. The flavor profile was not bad at all. It had a solid portion and large enough to split into two smaller meals. *** A-tier or 4-star for the food especially Indo Fried Rice and Beef Chow Fun with Dark Soy Sauce (aka dry beef chow fun), but I had to bump down to 3-star due to the minor cigarette smell.
