    Wonton Noodle Soup
    Katelyn K.

DFC closed down and I'm sure the locals are looking for a similar comfort spot. I've passed by Auntie Kitchen a few times, and it's always a full house. I stopped by in the morning and tried Breakfast Special Combo A ($12.99). It's a three items combo and it comes with a drink. I got Iced Lemon Tea, of course. I ordered Chinese Donuts, Pan Fried Soy Sauce Chow Mein and Plain Porridge. My husband ordered Wonton Noodle Soup and Egg Rolls. The menu seems endless. I barely scratched the surface here. I'd love to try other items next time. Quick service. And I mean quick. Once we sat down, the waitress was ready to take our orders. I haven't even looked at the menu yet. I found street parking in the front.

The portion sizes are TINY compared to when I came a few months ago. The congee is a single serving now, not a giant bowl like all the other places. I do appreciate having the choice of soy milk as a drink though. -Roasted pork bone congee: Bland, wouldn't recommend. -Beef stew noodle soup: Noodles were snappy but beef stew was almost non-existent and the biggest piece was a chewy piece of gristle. -Pan fried rice noodles: Good wok hei. -Pan fried green beans: Got this togo and it was super tiny and no wok hei.

Auntie Kitchen is overall not bad but not amazing. There are some items and categories on the menu that are quite good but, in the 626 area level of competition, it's not really enough to rise above the top. The roast duck and pork belly have good flavor and the pork crackles very well but don't have as much meat as other places. The dim sum was huge but just seemed like scaled up versions, the ha gow had very thick skins. The won ton noodle soup broth was also very very light. To the point that it seemed to be watered down; you could taste the green onion garnish more than any soup flavor. We came for lunch but the breakfast menu (served until 12) looked extensive and seems to be better rated.

With Delicious Food Corner closed, we've designated Auntie Kitchen to be our Hong Kong breakfast spot. They have great combinations with a lot of options and affordable prices. They have all the classics like congee, wonton noodle soup, Chinese BBQ if you dine late enough in the morning, rice noodle rolls and even a small selection of dim sum. We've always enjoyed their pork rice noodles, huge bowls of congee, soy milk, and wonton noodle soup. Their food tastes more homemade and subtly seasoned than the average HK breakfast spot and they are staffed leanly, with a few aunties and uncles handling it all.

Came here for dinner with my hubby and the fam. We left feeling so full and satisfied. The service here is excellent. The staff kept checking in on us and were so friendly. They even helped us debone the fish! We ordered a fish (which was cooked 2 ways - the head was used in a soup while the rest of the fish was steamed), sweet and sour pork, and this veggie dish. My favs were the soup and the veggie dish. Even though the soup was made with the fish, it didn't taste fishy at all! The veggie dish was made with string beans, taro, bean spouts, radish, and Chinese sausage. I will definitely come back again for their food.

Little place with a big menu! Service 10/10 Food 10/10 Ambience 8/10 Went on Sunday day after church with my lunch girlies and boy was it hot! Thankfully there's plenty of parking in the lot next door (though I didn't snag a spot in the shade!). It was too hot to drink hot tea, but it's offered. We opted for just the ice water on the table. Once we ordered we were brought a refreshing and light soup with chicken feet for flavoring the broth and papaya chunks. Never had it before but I loved it! What a great way to get your system ready for some good eating! We had the dishes pictures. Sorry but we were so hungry that I didn't take photos until we were half way through but all dishes were tasty and well done. I had chicken feet for the first time, and they were pretty good! The aunties were fast and solicitous even though it's a small place with tight seating. Oh! And a free mango dessert! Yum!!

We went to Auntie Kitchen for a late lunch---first time visiting. I had researched places in the SGV that serve salted fish fried rice, because this is a dish that JJ loves and he was craving. So of course, we ordered the salted fish fried rice, along with Kung Pao Chicken. The food was pretty good. The salted fish fried rice was very flavorful and the salted fish itself was good, with that classic salted fish taste. The rice was a little on the dry side, however. I would've preferred it on the moister side, but we enjoyed it nevertheless. The Kung Pao Chicken was absolutely fantastic. The Kung Pao sauce was perfectly flavored, with just the right consistency and the vegetables-- green pepper, onions,, pineapple and nuts were great. The steamed rice that came with the Kung Pao chicken was also on the dry side, and I would've preferred it to be moister as well. Portion sizes are also very generous. There was so much leftover, and we were able to eat it at home for the next few days. This is a very small restaurant, with only about 6 tables. The restaurant was full, but we were seated immediately. Our server was a sullen young woman who did not greet or welcome us at all. She took our order and then our food was brought to us. On the brighter side, there was another young female server named Macy who was very cheerful and friendly. She brought us our to-go boxes, and even offered to pack up our leftovers for us. She also brought us a little complementary dish of dessert, which was a Chinese type of jello/custard. The interior of the restaurant was bright and bustling with sounds of customers engaged in conversation. The ambiance was nice. By the time we finished our leisurely lunch, the restaurant had cleared out. There is a parking lot on the side of the restaurant. Overall, the food is good and the value is excellent. We'd like to go back and try the breakfast specials some time. Recommended.

Aunties Kitchen is like a really small Cantonese cafe. There's like parking to the left and the right of this place and there's like a parking lot in front of the medical building next door. It's all connected with no fencing. Upon entry, it's a really small place. Has a mom and pop shop vibe for sure. Upon entry there's like a few tables and you can order things like your typical Chinese BBQ items like roast duck, roast pork, etc. I ordered a bbq pork and duck rice. It came with a free soup which was a nice plus. It was slightly cheaper than the competition for everything. The quality of the duck was good. Proper plum sauce was provided. The cha shu was a bit dry and there was no extra sauce for it. It is also very lean. The bok choy was not cleaned well at all. It was bitter and sandy. Just bleh. The free soup... I really wish they had better soup because it was really off putting. It was bitter melon soup. Super bitter, I could only drink half a spoonful. Overall, I think the duck here is fine. Everything else here is mediocre. Would I recommend this place? Only for the duck.

Great food, very affordable price, and fastly delivered. The roasted pork is better than the roasted duck. We ordered the roasted pork center, roasted duck (would have preferred 1 pound not whole or half a duck, snowpea leaves sautéed with garlic, and beef chow fun. Pleasantly surprising, the food came with few soup and a mango pudding dessert. What a great deal.

I want back to this restaurant for its breakfast and it is not disappoint. You get one congee with two items. This time I get the beef congee with fried roll and beef rice roll. The taste of the congee is delicious. The rice roll is delicious l, too. For the price of $12.99 it is a good deal. The service is attentive.

Preserved egg and pork porridge was just ok - 2/5

This is a small Chinese cafe that has breakfast and lunch specials and is also open for dinner Service was pretty friendly and attentive. Not much seating inside and there isn't outdoor seating. Pricing was pretty reasonable ($13+/most dishes) during lunch special and there were 15+ options. Breakfast was $13 and is served 9am-12:30pm. It came with a choice of beverage (tea, coffee, milk tea), 6 different options for porridge, and two choices from a list of 12 items (mainly rice rolls or chow mein/fun). The preserved egg and pork porridge and it was just ok. There wasn't much pork and the egg pieces were pretty small. It didn't taste as flavorful as I was hoping and it was pretty watery. This was 2/5. The chow mein was nothing special. Lots of bean sprouts and not much ingredients. Pretty much just soy sauce mixed with noodles. This was 2/5 The rice roll with beef was very disappointing. It was falling apart when I tried to pick it up and didn't taste good. The texture was not fresh and meat was flavorless. This was 1/5. Most likely won't return or recommend

I took my family and my son to the park today, and after that we were hungry for lunch. I was looking at various restaurants in the area I had not tried yet, and I noticed that Auntie Kitchen had a mix of Hong Kong cafe style breakfast, Cantonese stir fry specials, congee, and wonton noodles. Given the diverse menu, I decided to come here. I saw the breakfast was available until 12:30 on Yelp, but nowadays it's only available until noon. The restaurant is small, very hole-in-the-wall vibe, but there were still tables large enough for our family of 5. The wait staff were super kind and attentive to all our needs. For being a small hole in the wall, the restaurant was fairly clean. We decided to get a mix of different things. We got two lunch specials, a pork belly and stir fried string beans. We got a wonton and beef tripe noodle soup. We got a side of rice noodle rolls as well. The rice noodle rolls were fairly standard for the area. The lunch specials came with their homemade soup, which was quite tasty and did not have too much MSG as is often the case with restaurants in the area. I loved the string beans which were quite aromatic and flavorful. The pork belly was amazing also. I did not get to try the wonton noodle soup, it was too much food for me. For dessert they had mango pudding with some cream on top. I loved it as did my son. Amazing Cantonese restaurant, I would definitely come back again.

We enjoyed some Traditional Cantonese dishes. The vegetables are fresh and prepared perfectly. Service was quick on a Friday evening. A free pot of tea, individual cup of broth with squash & carrot were served after we ordered 3 dishes ( string beans chicken, fish filet bok choy and Shanghai noodles with duck) which came with two bowls of rice (no charge for the rice). Dishes were definitely large enough for four people or two hardy eaters. The restaurant is small but area is clean and simple. There are many more menu items, a lobster special and a breakfast menu that entice us to return to Auntie Kitchen.

It was our first time at Tam's and we weren't disappointed at all! Tam's has a breakfast menu with plenty of options. The two of us ordered two breakfast combos and each came with a drink, two appetizers and an entrée. My hubby ordered the cold Hong Kong milk tea, which required a $1 surcharge for cold drinks. I ordered the hot Hong Kong milk tea. Both milk teas were delicious--no complaints at all! We both ordered their jook and for our appetizers, we ended up trying all four options since each combo lets you choose two appetizers. Everything was yummy and the portions were generous enough for two people. If you're a party of three and aren't big eaters, I'd recommend ordering just two breakfast combos. There's a parking lot outside since the restaurant is located in a small shopping plaza, so parking wasn't an issue. I'll definitely bookmark this place for future visits whenever I'm in the area. The staff were friendly and very attentive. They regularly checked on us to see if we needed more water. They also have both indoor and outdoor seating, which was a nice option.

Since my husband and I were in the general area, we decided to get a late dinner on a Saturday night. We walked in around 8:45 pm and were acknowledged by an employee after waiting for maybe 5 minutes asking if we would like a table. But the strange thing was that I had told the the employee who acknowledged me that I wanted a table for 2, he didn't sit us. He looked like he was trying to clean the table but then just walked away... but luckily another employee saw us and asked how many for a table. But anyway, after looking over the menu, we ended up ordering: A11: Fish Siu Mai with Rice Roll, $13.99 prior to tax- I ordered this dish, which was plenty for one person (this dish is found under the appetizer section of the menu). I actually really love rice noodles and also fish siu mai so this was a great combination for me. And the peanut and soy sauce mixture poured all over reminds me of when I had freshly made rice noodle in Hong Kong many years ago. But my husband would prefer the rice noodle not to have any of the sauce (or on the side so he can maybe just dip it if he wanted to). I think this dish could use less of the peanut soy sauce mixture too but I still overall really liked this dish. D9: Grilled Pork Chop with Black Pepper Sauce, $16.99 prior to tax- This dish comes with your choice of either steamed white rice or noodle. My husband decided to have rice. He thought the pork chop was delicious and perfectly cooked. He also really liked the black pepper sauce that he picked to go with the pork chop (I know you can also pick a mushroom sauce but I don't recall if there was a 3rd sauce you can choose from or not). Portion wise, this is more than enough for one person since you are getting 2 pork chops. This is actually one of my mom's favorite dishes to order when she goes to any Hong Kong style cafes too. ----------------------------------- (Total= $34.23 after tax, prior to tip) Service was minimal. I spoke both Cantonese and English (well actually my husband spoke English and I spoke in Cantonese. I am just trying to make myself speak Cantonese more) so you shouldn't really have a problem ordering here. I really like the food and I am glad this place does open late. And it was pretty busy as time progressed while we were here. We also saw a few large groups come in and the staff moving quickly to put tables together to accommodate these big groups. Overall, we had a positive dining experience and would come back.

Finally, I made the journey. And arrived for lunch, on a weekday. To come here and not order their iconic Signature dish, the House Special Newport Style Lobster, would be a sin. Imagine a trip that was almost 40 miles and an hour of traffic (one way), with no reward. It was time to experience the real thing. The signature dish. Walking in solo, I was given a booth. I liked that. On seating, I ordered a beverage to quench my thirst, catch my bearings and breath. Almost immediately, the servers kept bugging me to order. The place was barely 1/4th occupied. Whats the hurry. After all this, I had to repeatedly tell them, that i had already spoken with a server, regarding my order. Just wanted to relax first, catch my breath, sip my beverage. Coming here, I was aware that their tank lobsters would be in the 4-6 pound range. Good for, and ordered by, at least 3-4 people. So when I, as a solo diner, ordered a 4-pound lobster (with no other choice), just for myself, they began to leave me alone and give me more respect. The cut up wok prepared, House Special Newport Style Lobster, arrives wonderfully presented, with heaps of leeks, scallions and jalapenos. My kind of recipe. Truly unique and exceptional. There is no sauce, and only a mild flavor, yet tasty. My biggest concern here was (after reading numerous internet reviews), that the lobster would be rubbery and dry. Not so for me. I lucked out. Problem here is, while there is lots of meat (a 4 pound lobster will yield at the most, about a pound of meat), they do not have, or provide, the essential lobster cutlery, to do justice to this beautiful crustacean. I did ask though. They did not seem to care and told me to use my fork. LOL. Steamed rice is complimentary. So is a soup, with sweet and sour, being the only choice (I did not like this). Either way, my plan was to take leftovers (there was a lot), home, where I possess high class lobster cracking tools. And thank heavens I did. They were most useful, to crack and dig into all the lobster meat, that would have been inaccessible at the restaurant. With additional TLC, the leftovers held up well, to provide several additional lobster meals. Need to go back to try their enticing and reasonably priced variety of lunch specials (more seafood, choices minus lobster). Another sought after box on my list, is now checked.

It deserves a line out the door, but for now it's our little secret. We'll definitely be back!

I asked for extra vegetables with the kung pao chicken, and they added them without charging extra. Both dishes were really good. On my most recent visit, we dined in and ordered the mixed vegetables, orange chicken, and wonton noodle soup with beef brisket. We've had the wontons before, and they're always good and taste authentic. The beef brisket was tender, the wontons were delicious, and they put plenty of fresh bok choy. It was our first time trying the mixed vegetables and orange chicken. The vegetables were fresh, crisp, and flavorful. The dish also included pieces of Chinese sausage and squid. The orange chicken was sliced very thin, and the batter was extra crispy. We enjoyed it, but it's different from the typical orange chicken you'd find at most Chinese fast food restaurants. The customer service is really good here. At the end of our meal, we were offered a complimentary dessert, which was a sweet soup made with sweet potato and egg. It was good and reminded me of a sweet version of egg drop soup.

Parking 5/5 -Big free parking lot…read more Service 5/5 -We were seated right away and staff was professional, efficient and friendly. Restaurant was not busy at the time, our food came out pretty quickly. At the end of the meal, they offered to help pack our leftover food along with sauce, superior service. Food 5/5 -Deep fried salted pig feet, this is a MUST get. I cannot emphasize enough how well executed this dish was, the pig feet came deboned. Skin was thin, crispy but still had a delicate layer of gelatinous fat under that's so addicting and great pairing with the complimentary pot of white rice. The meat was so tender and flavorful, the seasoning is not overwhelming but tasteful enough that keeps you wanting to go back for more. Great portion for sharing, however you may not want to share and just keep it all for yourself. -Salted fish and garlic chicken fried rice, rice was fragrant with the delicate saltiness from the dry aged salted fish. The dish is a combination of fine bits and pieces of fish, chicken and notable amount of ginger. I'm usually not a fan of ginger but I actually liked it for this dish, brought a comfortable level of sharpness to it. But if you really hate ginger, you might want to avoid as they're really fine pieces and would be impossible to avoid. -Sliced beef with Chinese broccoli, beef was tender and full of the wok flame flavor, vegetables were fresh and crunchy, no notes. Ambiance 5/5 -Restaurant was super quiet, I really liked how calm it was in there. Mostly comfortable booths around the perimeter and tables were all separated by clear dividers. My favorite was the bathroom's decor, it felt like an early 90s metal/futuristic ocean theme.

I had started a…read morereview after the first visit, and it wasn't going to be a great one, but the second visit redeemed themselves a bit, so I'll go with that experience. First, my favorite thing about this place is how proactive they are about refilling your iced tea. Love it. Their food is really good. They have some dishes that others in their category (e.g., Kim Tar, Newport, Boston Lobster) don't have, and most everything we've eaten was pretty good. It doesn't take long for the food to come out, though they are stingier than you'd expect when it comes to the amount of white rice given. Of the unique offerings, my kids' favorite is probably the bubble waffles, which they give out complimentary at the end of the meal. The weird thing though is between the two visits, I learned they give the same amount -- one -- whether the dining group has 6 people or 12 people. Stingy. Price-wise, they are definitely at the top end of their category. I don't think it's close to being worth it especially given the quality of their competition, but to each his own I guess. I do like that you can make reservations here, and parking is super easy.

If you know, you know. Forget standing in a line long enough to finish 8 Mile waiting for the "real" dim sum experience-this spot is too busy quietly running circles around the competition. Little Kanupe and I started the morning absolutely hangry (one of my baby soldiers) after striking out at another place (we'll leave them unnamed to protect the innocent). One quick Yelp audible later and we landed at HK Dim Sum. Best comeback since B-Rabbit dropped the mic. The first thing you'll notice is the size of the hand cared for master pieces. Run here for a quick FIFA break, but dont think you're ordering "a little something." Every bite delivers. The chow mein was memorable, so memorable with that wok hay kiss on every noodle just right. Smoky, savory, and ridiculously addictive. Every dish hit with that same "one more bite" energy, and somehow everything showed up almost before we finished ordering. No carts, no gimmicks, no unnecessary fanfare, just legit dim sum crazy great flavor. HK Dim Sum earned a rock-solid five stars. Din Tai Fung is King in most circles, but this place is the Daenerys Dragon Queen dominator. I'm so happy to be part of this sharing of secrets. BTW get the Shumai, chowmein and har gow as starters. Explore the menu. I'm comin back soon and i'm near TJ lol.

They have a new menu and we ordered the Minced Pork & Egg Rice. This is the non-gravy/sauce version like some local restaurants are starting to do. Break the runny egg yolk and mix everything together. It was pretty good. We also ordered the pan fried turnip cake which is crispy on the outside and soft on the inside. It's better than many dim sum restaurant versions. Also got their beef rice roll again. Their rice rolls are always a hit. Don't forget to order their HK lemon iced tea on the side. It pairs well with everything especially on a hot summer day. Good air conditioning. Lots of indoor seating. Great service. Highly recommend!

I've known of Steam Fresh for a while, but saw they recently started a brunch specials menu. So I decided to come here to try their brunch. I came with family. Steam Fresh is a small restaurant but the AC is good and the staff are super friendly. The restaurant is clean. I ended up getting two breakfast specials, a noodle soup with eggs and spam with a side of zhongzi, also got congee with turnip cake. We also ordered a steamed rice with Chinese sausage and chicken. Both breakfast specials came with iced lemon tea which was awesome. The steamed rice was quite tasty. My favorite dish was probably the zhongzi which is like a Chinese tamale. It was very well seasoned and the pork was flavorful. Overall solid brunch restaurant in San Gabriel Valley.

The soup was nice, clean, and light. The veggies were perfect: bright green and a bit crisp, not over done. The wantons and noodles were tasty. The dumplings were very nice. They are located next to the Jade Plaza on Garvey Ave in Monterey Park. I parked in the plaza's parking lot, but I'm not 100% sure if they truly are part of the plaza. They may not be. Please read signages. Limited street parking. Upon entry, the lady behind the counter was attending to another customer. When it was my turn, she took my order quickly. She seemed friendly, but not the most smiliest. They are known for their Shrimp Wonton Noodle Soup so I got one of them. I saw Preserved Egg with Shredded Pork Congee so I had to get it, too. Lastly, I noticed another customer with an order of Black Sesame Paste... must get an order of that because I love black sesame. I decided to dine-in instead of take-out. This place isn't huge at all. It's a mom and pop whole in the wall very casual establishment with about 4 tables and some chairs. Definitely not a spot for large parties. Now to the food... Shrimp wonton noodles was quite authentic and deliciously good. Broth was light and clean without the msg flavor. Noodles were crisp and had a bouncy texture to it. WOW, wontons were the best! Good amount of quality pork and shrimp filling that was quite flavorfully seasoned. Loved it! Definitely recommend to all wonton egg noodle connoisseurs! Just one itty bitty gripe, portion was small for the price of almost $12. I felt I only got a few good bites from the bowl. I would still get it again though. I'm a sucker for great eats regardless of price LOL. Congee with tasty shredded pork and slightly salted preserved eggs was warm and savory with a soft silky texture and mild comforting flavor. I haven't had such an authentic congee in such a very long time. This is must get every time! It was worth the almost $10. I should have ordered one to-go... for sure next time. For the black sesame paste, this one was a bit of a disappointment. It was cold and not hot. Liquid was very thin. I'm used to thick black sesame. Taste was horrible. It was like eating expired black sesame grains. Did not like it at all. Will not get again. I almost tossed the whole thing away, but ended up adding some pre-packaged flavorful black sesame paste I had at my home pantry to thicken it. Afterwards, it tasted more decent like black sesame should taste. Will I be back? Yes, I'll be back for the wonton noodles and congee plus to try their other authentic Chinese dishes. They sell frozen wontons and dumplings, too. I will have to buy a bag or two of them next time. Thanks Hong Coffee & Bakery!
