I love this place and I've been gatekeeping it gets packed during lunch time at like 11ish but at 2 it's typically cleared out. I love their lunch special that comes with the rice rolls and drink. Their Hainan chicken is really good it has that underskin jelly and there's basically no bones. You can also ask for extra sauce !!! ‍ The tomyum was just okay it tastes like instant noodle soup base. The duck rolls are amazing def recommend !! You don't find this kind of skilfully prepared chicken just anywhere. We got the special dinner package, which for $47.99, gives you a whole chicken, with choice of Hainan of the Salt-Baked chicken, Rice Noodle with select protein, seasonal veggies, 3 lemon teas (which are usually $4-5 at other restaurants), and another amazing delicacy, the Stone Pot rice, which we added $2 to get the eel rice, which is so plentiful and made with high quality rice, as well as not too much ginger, which means the eel is very fresh. Dined at top one on a Thursday night with my family and what a nice new restaurant in the sgv. The restaurant is small but there was no wait when I went. They have great combo meals for a great prices. We got the combo b which came with a whole hainan chicken, clay pot rice, steam rice roll, seasonal veggies, and 3 ice lemon teas for $47! On an ongoing quest to find the best claypot rice/煲仔飯 in the area. They seem to already have local regulars here despite only being around for less than a year. Ordered the chinese cured meats claypot rice and was warned it would take about 7-9 minutes. Not a problem because we all know it takes time. When I got my food, the older couple at next table over asked what I got and kept eyeing it. Gave it a couple swirls of soy sauce, heard it sizzle, and started digging in. We all know the crispy rice bits are the essence of the dish and it was perfectly crispy without being overly burnt. Also scraped off easily. There was a good topping to rice ratio. I knew I liked it when I found myself eating a little more than I usually do. I can only speak for the claypot rice here and it's def comparable to Chong Yuen Fong's. Came to Top One Kitchen Cuisine in Alhambra last Thursday night with my parents and it turned out to be such a great dinner. We ordered the shrimp rice noodle roll, Hainanese chicken rice, claypot rice with preserved meats, roasted duck wrap roll, and a beef belly and broccoli stir fry. Honestly, every dish was delicious. You can tell the flavors are traditional and made with care. The one that really stood out to us was the claypot rice. The bottom layer of rice was perfectly crispy and that soy sauce they use is crack. It soaked into the rice just right and gave it so much flavor. Definitely the must order item in my opinion. Service was excellent. It's a true mom and pop shop, which made the whole experience feel personal. The owner took her time explaining the menu and kept checking in to make sure we had everything we needed. Her husband is the chef and even came out to ask how everything tasted. I told him it reminded me of eating in Hong Kong and he just smiled. They both seemed genuinely appreciative, which made the meal even more special. I love supporting small family owned spots, especially when the food is this good. Parking can be a bit challenging since the lot is shared with a supermarket and other restaurants. The thing to get here is the "Ancient method of shredded salt-baked chicken" (gotta love the google translate from Chinese to English). It basically is room temp/chilled hand shredded chicken which means BONELESS! Well, mostly boneless. This lazy gal loves her boneless dark meat chicken. The crunchy peanut they toss in with the nice sesame flavor makes it a true winner. Portions are pretty generous too for their half size and it comes with a bowl of white rice. I originally wanted to try this place because of their hainan chicken rice. I tried it during my first visit and thought it was okay. I would much rather get the shredded chicken. I also tried the duck pancake - at first I thought it was wrapped with a scallion pancake but they actually use roti bread instead. My issue with the roti bread is that it was super buttery and really overwhelmed the taste of the filling, so I wouldn't get it again. The place isn't terribly big, and service was friendly. They are kinda hidden in the strip mall - the last storefront closest to the market in the row of eateries. 1 unisex bathroom available. Takes credit card. The plate came with a big scoop of rice with very little taste of chicken broth. The chicken were boneless with very little meat. I had 5 piece on my plate. Chicken was soft but tasteless. Sour cabbage underneath the chicken. Half a piece of hard boiled egg. You get your 3 sauces. I was still hungry after the small portion. Apparently, there's a minimum charge when using a credit card payment over $20. Otherwise they charged an extra $1 on your bill. Nowhere in the store was posted. So, I placed another lunch special per the recommendation of the owner. She recommended A5 BBQ pork and Chicken rice which was $10.99. When I received the take out. It was ultra light weight. Because I was given paper thin BBQ pork and 3 fatty chicken skins with paper thin white meat attached. I would not recommend this place to anyone. There's far better SGV deals elsewhere than trying to lure people with their $9.99 Lunch Special by filler in rice. With this prices and portion. My mother wanted to try out a new restaurant in the San Gabriel Valley, and after looking at various options, Top One seemed quite promising. Its Chinese name is actually named after a very famous metro station in Hong Kong, Wan Chai. So I was looking forward to what Cantonese cuisine this restaurant would serve. My wife loves pig feet, so we got the pig trotter soup noodles. We also got the duck scallion pancake as well as a clay pot rice. We got the clay pot rice with cured pork and salted fish. The noodles came right away, but the other two dishes took some time. The broth was super flavorful and delicious. I'm not a huge fan of pig trotter so I did not try the pork. The duck scallion pancake was absolutely amazing. It was a better version of the beef scallion pancake I often get at other restaurants. The claypot rice was super tasty and I loved the crispy rice at the bottom. The restaurant is super small, but the staff are super attentive. My friend brings me there last month since the Chinese name of this restaurant attracts her, she used to work at Wai Chai (灣仔) district when she lived at Hong Kong. Even though the name had nothing related with the interior decoration (she said the wall decoration looks more like a local city of Guangzhou), but the food didn't disappoint us. We both love the salt baked shredded chicken so much! This dish becomes our all time favorite, we then come back for couple times and they keep the standard. The chicken is not salty, but the meat tastes fantastic every time. The peanuts were delicious too, crispy like our family's traditional homemade LNY snack. We also got the rice rolls and some other dishes, they were good too, but we loved the chicken dish the most. The service was nice, they were friendly and helpful. On my trip to Los Angeles, I was recommended the Top One restaurant from my LA friends who was telling us about new Cantonese restaurants in the SGV. When the Clayton arrived, they offered to separate and mix everything for me, taking care to make sure they lift and mix the crispy rice that is the hallmark of Clayton rice dishes. Beef rolls started at Taiwanese restaurants and so many other Chinese restaurants have added them to the menu like XLB dumplings. Top One does its a little differently, with multiple options, including roast duck, which I ordered. The dough was nice and flaky but had a nice chewy center like pastry. Parking is okay but may be difficult during peak dining hours since there is also the seemingly popular Fresh Farm Outlet (which I visited with my friend after eating at this establishment) and other restaurants. We ordered the half Hainanese Chicken (one of my favorite all-time foods!), Claypot Rice with Spare Ribs (with expected amount of flavor and tenderness) and the Smoked Pork Hock (love this BUT I only get this item a few times per year, so I had to try it since it was available here!). All three dishes were delicious (5/5) and we had plenty of leftovers (which I will enjoy over the next 2 days). I also brought the pork hock bone home with me because I like to make congee with it. LOL My friend reminded me to take pics (I'm always rather forgetful and usually have already taken a bite of the food)...the waitress reminded me as well when she offered to cut the pork hock into smaller pieces for us at the table.
