(Dark)Hainan Ck Rice
Maleerat P.

I love the Hainan chicken here. Chicken is always soft and juicy. I mostly order take out. Occasionally I dine in. There are options to get white or dark meat . I love to get dark meat because it is more juicy. Good portions ! Just one order and I always have leftover for another meal. Service is good and fast....nothing special. For dine in, sometimes the tables are not that clean. It may be only one server most of the time. I prefer to get take out. Street parking

There's just something so comforting about Hainan chicken. Simple but done so well here! Ordered 1 of their Hainan chicken with half white meat and half dark. We also got an order of their fried chicken. Both came with a small cabbage salad and chicken rice and a small cup of broth. What really sets this spot a part is the sauces. I love their ginger scallion that comes with the hainan chicken. This is a no frills kinda spot. Food served on a Dixie paper plate but that they lack in frills they make up for in flavor.

The menu is short, understandably built around the standout hainan chicken. Delicious food and great bang for your buck.

We went to Cluck2Go in Pasadena (right across PCC) after we went to the Rose Bowl Flea Market yesterday. We were craving the Hainan chicken. When we walked in, all the tables were taken, so we sat on the barstool where we were all facing the wall. We ordered the Combo B (serves 4-5 people), which included one whole chicken, stir-fry string beans, spicy cucumber salad, fried peanuts, chicken soup (large), and 4 chicken rice. The price has gone up to $50.75. The place looked outdated on this visit, and they should do some remodeling work because a big section of the ceiling was peeling off. Anyhow, the staff were friendly and they asked us if we wanted to change to another table because some customers had already left. They helped us move all the food to the other table. We liked their fried peanuts so much. They were very flavorful and addictive. The stir-fry string beans were also delicious. The spicy cucumber salad was a bit too spicy for me, and I wish it were fresh & crunchy. The chicken rice was dry and not soft, and not flavorful enough. The chicken meat was tender; however, some chicken meat, such as the white meat, was a bit dry. We've had better Hainan Chicken at the other place, so we were a little disappointed this time.

Hainan Chicken Rice half white and half dark - A black plastic meal tray holds a serving of rice, sliced poached chicken, pickles, and a small container of green sauce. The rice is on the left side, while the chicken slices are arranged on the right. Pickles are in a separate compartment, and the green sauce is in a small round container. The tray is placed on a dark surface, with a white plastic bag and a cup nearby.

I did a grubhub pickup order and appreciated the package. It came in like a lunchbox along with chicken broth. The portion is so big I got to split it onto two. They had the option to have half dark and white meat which were both good. The hainan chicken was well executed, came out juicy. I just wish the rice was more flavorful as I was expecting it to also be tasty. So with every bite of the rice, I also put some broth. The green and orange sauce were both gingery with the orange sauce having a little kick of spice. I'd be happy to go again for a Hainan chicken fix. Plenty of street parking during the day.

Ive always passed by this restaurant and was curious about it. Ive also ordered multiple times through grubhub, but never dined in. Location isn't hard to find, but the name Cluck2Go was hard to see. All I saw was Hainan Chicken in big letters on the storefront and the actual name was small and on the smaller sign. Parking is street, but there is parking in the back alleyway. I parked on the street. Please read the signs because pasadena is really strict on parking enforcement. On the inside, they have a bar top with some chairs to sit and eat. They also have 3 four top tables and 2 two top tables. Its a small set up, but its pretty roomy. They have a gender neutral bathroom and a self serve water set up. It was also very clean and well kept! You order first and pay afterwards. They bring your order to you and clean up afterwards. I got their dark chicken Hainan chicken and rice. I am not a fan of the pickled veggies so I asked them to put it on the side. Im rating this experience a 4.5 because they did end up putting some veggies on my plate. I tasted the pickled vinegar in my rice and chicken. It was in a small section, so I didnt mention anything. They used regular Dixie-esque paper plates to serve our meals in. It was a very large heaping scoop of rice and they put the ginger and chilis in plastic cups with your meal. My friend said it was spicy! But it was good. Our meals also came with a cup of chicken broth, so he used that to try and calm down the spice level - didnt work. I also ordered their calming chrysanthemum tea. I wished it was colder, but they were nice enough to provide me with some ice on the side for me to add it into my cup. Dining in was nice, but trying to find parking on the street is tough.

Fried Hainan Chicken Rice. Tender chicken, nice crispy batter, very tasty even without the sweet chili sauce.

I don't typically get Hainan Chicken bc I don't like the flavor of ginger. Good thing they have a fried chicken option which is really tasty. No ginger taste on the chicken itself, the sweet chili sauce does have a light hint of ginger. Didn't need much of the sauce as the chicken itself is already really flavorful on its own. Nice crispy batter, pretty good portions. And yes, the poached chicken is pretty tender when fried as well.. The string beans were great as well with nice crispy garlic bits. Would go again!

The pastor at my church took us here to break bread as this is his top spot for Hainan chicken. I told him I really like savoy and he thinks this place is way better so here we are. The members at our church are troopers as this restaurant was 30+ min away from church and there were 11 of us. There are street parking and should be enough if people can park correctly but of course a few had to take up two spots and I ended up parking across the street. There's a sign that says one hour parking but does not pertain to Sundays...yay! The place itself is quit small but praise GOD there were no one here when we arrived so we were able to fit everyone here. Instead of being able to order at the front, the waiter made us wait so he can take our order at the table as he stated we are all sitting together. Also means we can only split two bills instead of paying individually. SMH. I was going to give them 3 stars for this but the guy more then made it up with his spectacular service. He started off with getting all of us water and then kept refilling our sauce! The store could use some remodeling as a big part of the ceiling is peeling off. On to the food. I ordered combo A as it's 1/2 chicken compared to individual order which is 1/4 chicken according to the waiter but when comparing side by side we felt the individual order is more then a 1/4 but less then 1/2. Combo A is $2 more but you get fried peanuts and spicy cucumber salad and that's why I ordered that instead but after comparing, I would def order the individual size instead to get more Hainan chicken. The chicken is comparable to savoys but their green onion sauce is out of this world!!! So good! The rice is a bit on the harder side for me but with the green sauce over it, it just made everything taste good lol. The peanuts is good but I'm not really into mala and the cucumber salad is refreshing w a spicy kick. It also comes w chicken broth which was surprisingly healthy tasting. We were expecting msg but nope just light broth. Overall: this place is a bit far from where I live but if I'm ever in the area, I wouldn't mind coming back as the price was very reasonable and service was excellent and the green sauce was so good! 3.5 stars because of the poor store condition. If they fix their ceiling this would be a solid 4 stars!

Just recently tried hainanese chicken and I've been missing out. Soo flavorful. The chicken is juicy and the rice is garlicky and gingerly. Also since it's poached chicken it's a lot more moist and healthy. Still looking for the best spot but this spot will be my reference point.

Very disappointing experience. There were three of us and we first ordered one chicken rice. The staff kept asking "Only one?" multiple times. After he went to the kitchen, we politely asked if we could change the order to Combo A. He seemed very annoyed and even made a rude "pff/psst" sound. I told him if it was not possible, we could just order another chicken rice instead. He said "I changed it for you." However, his attitude became very aggressive and we could see him slam the plate on the table. The food was good, but the service was very rude. Because of this attitude, we will not come back.

Overall, the food was spectacular and a great deal for the price. We got a Tea drink as well which was affordable and tasty. The service was fast and friendly. Highly recommend Cluck2Go if you're looking for some excellent Hainan chicken.

dark meat Hainan Chicken with Rice
Leo Y.

located on a main street in Pasadena with plenty of food options for the students of Pasadena Community College, this spot is definitely a new favorite of mine. The dark meat Hainan chicken was juicy and the rice was super flavorful. The portions are more than enough and it comes with a cup of house special broth. Order: dark meat Hainan chicken rice (comes with soup) comments: Parking can be a hard to find on the main street so highly recommend street parking in the neighborhood

Hainan Chicken was my favorite meal, when I lived in Asia. Cluck2Go is my favorite location to duplicate these great flavors. They have great options when putting together your meal. I like having a choice of light or dark meat as well as rice options. I like ordering the deep fried Chinese buns and the spicy cucumber salad, and homemade pickled veggies. This is a great place to order deep fried spicy chicken wings! The staff was friendly, and helped me put together a great order to take home. They have seating available for about 20 people. They are used to taking large orders and have a special catering menu available. This location is very popular and at times I have had to wait a short time for my meal. There is no parking lot available in front of the store. Street parking is often available but not always. This area is a great place to walk so park on one of the side streets. This location is located just west of Allen Avenue and Colorado Boulevard intersection.

I was planning to stop here couple days ago but couldn't find parking. Where can I park?

I always just park right in front or across the street on Colorado. There’s usually space even during rush hour. Park run and pick my stuff up run out. The place is so fast. Everything’s always ready to go delicious chicken BTW.

Will they do boneless and/or skinless hainanese chicken rice if asked?

Do you no longer include the sauces for Hainan chicken rice? I ordered three orders through UberEats, and no sauce was included. Do we have to order them separately and pay extra for the sauce? The photo in the menu shows two sauces as part of it.

Do they include the soup in takeout?

Yes

Do they no longer include the chicken soup with the regular orders? Mine didn't come with today.

Hahaha, I highly doubt it.

No, but they make a chicken flavored rice that is cooked in chicken broth. It's really good.

We ordered the tom yum noodle soup, pork collar, papaya salad, shrimp ceviche, and the captain whatever curry. Unfortunately, the tom yum noodle soup and the curry were especially underwhelming. Both dishes lacked the bold, balanced flavors that define Thai cuisine--there was no real heat, tanginess, sweetness, or depth. When I go to a Thai or Thai-inspired restaurant, I expect vibrant, layered flavors, but what we received tasted muted and almost as if key ingredients were missing. It honestly made me wonder if there had been a mistake in the kitchen. The service didn't help improve the experience. Our server rarely checked in on us--no one asked if we needed napkins or refills, and empty or untouched plates were left sitting on the table far too long. When I brought up the issue with the lack of flavor, there was little acknowledgment and nothing was done to address the concern or make things right. Overall, the combination of bland food and inattentive service made for a frustrating dining experience. Side Note: It should've been obvious to me when I saw that there weren't any Asian patrons that this place would be a disappointment. Shame on this "Michelin-starred" chef.

The dipping sauce also felt generic - like a standard sweet-and-hot sauce mixed with crushed peanuts. It was decent, but not memorable. Roti & Curry - 2.5/5. The Roti & Curry had a similar issue. The roti itself seemed reheated from a premade product, and the curry sauce tasted very generic. It lacked any distinct flavor or character that would set it apart from countless other Thai restaurants. Pad Thai - 3/5. The Pad Thai was average at best. For my taste, it leaned far too sweet, and I wished there was more balance and complexity beyond just sweetness. Thai BBQ Chicken - 1.5/5. The biggest disappointment was the Thai B.B.Q. Chicken. Since the menu mentioned "15 minutes," I assumed the chicken would be grilled fresh to order and served hot off the grill. That expectation made me genuinely excited to try it. Unfortunately, the dish that arrived felt like the opposite. The chicken was cold, not freshly grilled, and the meat tasted stale rather than tender and juicy. It honestly seemed like it had been cooked earlier and reheated before serving. On top of that, the flavor itself was surprisingly bland. Overall, the food tasted like what you would find at many generic Thai restaurants, where the dishes feel standardized and lacking individuality. I don't feel as bad as enjoying the butter and cheeese combo that is Al Fredo but that's probably a bias I have. (The easiest place to get this in HK is actually KFC... But the execution is also pepper heavy there is no taste semblance to the original dish...) The tea is floral, sweet with a slight bitter aftertaste from being a little over brewed if your standard is Vita, but absolutely perfect for the heatwave. Service was great too. The boss lady smiled but was also very sharp. Got the tea immediately, no fuss about the ice, no hesitation and ready to switch when I asked if the adjacent container is milk tea. It's not.
