    Hainan Chicken Rice (Dark Meat)

My go to place for hainan chicken. Chicken is tender and flavorful with the best scallion sauce. The rice was super savory. This place can't be beat for comforting chicken and rice. The peanuts and cucumber salad must try items.

We came on Mother's Day and ordered the Combo B, which came with chicken, rice, peanuts, bone broth, and green beans. We added an order of honey wings for our party of 6. Everything was delicious. The tender, juicy chicken came with ginger scallion oil and sweet chilli sauce. We loved the bone broth. It was yummy without any MSG! We had a person with a peanut allergy in our group and the waiter was very informative about the oils that were used to fry the peanuts and the green beans, which I really appreciated! Service was excellent where the waiter was so attentive and predicted our needs, even before we asked! A great dining experience! $73.75 to feed a family of 6 with enough leftovers for lunch for one person.

I love the Hainan chicken here. Chicken is always soft and juicy. I mostly order take out. Occasionally I dine in. There are options to get white or dark meat . I love to get dark meat because it is more juicy. Good portions ! Just one order and I always have leftover for another meal. Service is good and fast....nothing special. For dine in, sometimes the tables are not that clean. It may be only one server most of the time. I prefer to get take out. Street parking

There's just something so comforting about Hainan chicken. Simple but done so well here! Ordered 1 of their Hainan chicken with half white meat and half dark. We also got an order of their fried chicken. Both came with a small cabbage salad and chicken rice and a small cup of broth. What really sets this spot a part is the sauces. I love their ginger scallion that comes with the hainan chicken. This is a no frills kinda spot. Food served on a Dixie paper plate but that they lack in frills they make up for in flavor.

The menu is short, understandably built around the standout hainan chicken. Delicious food and great bang for your buck.

We went to Cluck2Go in Pasadena (right across PCC) after we went to the Rose Bowl Flea Market yesterday. We were craving the Hainan chicken. When we walked in, all the tables were taken, so we sat on the barstool where we were all facing the wall. We ordered the Combo B (serves 4-5 people), which included one whole chicken, stir-fry string beans, spicy cucumber salad, fried peanuts, chicken soup (large), and 4 chicken rice. The price has gone up to $50.75. The place looked outdated on this visit, and they should do some remodeling work because a big section of the ceiling was peeling off. Anyhow, the staff were friendly and they asked us if we wanted to change to another table because some customers had already left. They helped us move all the food to the other table. We liked their fried peanuts so much. They were very flavorful and addictive. The stir-fry string beans were also delicious. The spicy cucumber salad was a bit too spicy for me, and I wish it were fresh & crunchy. The chicken rice was dry and not soft, and not flavorful enough. The chicken meat was tender; however, some chicken meat, such as the white meat, was a bit dry. We've had better Hainan Chicken at the other place, so we were a little disappointed this time.

I did a grubhub pickup order and appreciated the package. It came in like a lunchbox along with chicken broth. The portion is so big I got to split it onto two. They had the option to have half dark and white meat which were both good. The hainan chicken was well executed, came out juicy. I just wish the rice was more flavorful as I was expecting it to also be tasty. So with every bite of the rice, I also put some broth. The green and orange sauce were both gingery with the orange sauce having a little kick of spice. I'd be happy to go again for a Hainan chicken fix. Plenty of street parking during the day.

Ive always passed by this restaurant and was curious about it. Ive also ordered multiple times through grubhub, but never dined in. Location isn't hard to find, but the name Cluck2Go was hard to see. All I saw was Hainan Chicken in big letters on the storefront and the actual name was small and on the smaller sign. Parking is street, but there is parking in the back alleyway. I parked on the street. Please read the signs because pasadena is really strict on parking enforcement. On the inside, they have a bar top with some chairs to sit and eat. They also have 3 four top tables and 2 two top tables. Its a small set up, but its pretty roomy. They have a gender neutral bathroom and a self serve water set up. It was also very clean and well kept! You order first and pay afterwards. They bring your order to you and clean up afterwards. I got their dark chicken Hainan chicken and rice. I am not a fan of the pickled veggies so I asked them to put it on the side. Im rating this experience a 4.5 because they did end up putting some veggies on my plate. I tasted the pickled vinegar in my rice and chicken. It was in a small section, so I didnt mention anything. They used regular Dixie-esque paper plates to serve our meals in. It was a very large heaping scoop of rice and they put the ginger and chilis in plastic cups with your meal. My friend said it was spicy! But it was good. Our meals also came with a cup of chicken broth, so he used that to try and calm down the spice level - didnt work. I also ordered their calming chrysanthemum tea. I wished it was colder, but they were nice enough to provide me with some ice on the side for me to add it into my cup. Dining in was nice, but trying to find parking on the street is tough.

Fried Hainan Chicken Rice. Tender chicken, nice crispy batter, very tasty even without the sweet chili sauce.

I don't typically get Hainan Chicken bc I don't like the flavor of ginger. Good thing they have a fried chicken option which is really tasty. No ginger taste on the chicken itself, the sweet chili sauce does have a light hint of ginger. Didn't need much of the sauce as the chicken itself is already really flavorful on its own. Nice crispy batter, pretty good portions. And yes, the poached chicken is pretty tender when fried as well.. The string beans were great as well with nice crispy garlic bits. Would go again!

The pastor at my church took us here to break bread as this is his top spot for Hainan chicken. I told him I really like savoy and he thinks this place is way better so here we are. The members at our church are troopers as this restaurant was 30+ min away from church and there were 11 of us. There are street parking and should be enough if people can park correctly but of course a few had to take up two spots and I ended up parking across the street. There's a sign that says one hour parking but does not pertain to Sundays...yay! The place itself is quit small but praise GOD there were no one here when we arrived so we were able to fit everyone here. Instead of being able to order at the front, the waiter made us wait so he can take our order at the table as he stated we are all sitting together. Also means we can only split two bills instead of paying individually. SMH. I was going to give them 3 stars for this but the guy more then made it up with his spectacular service. He started off with getting all of us water and then kept refilling our sauce! The store could use some remodeling as a big part of the ceiling is peeling off. On to the food. I ordered combo A as it's 1/2 chicken compared to individual order which is 1/4 chicken according to the waiter but when comparing side by side we felt the individual order is more then a 1/4 but less then 1/2. Combo A is $2 more but you get fried peanuts and spicy cucumber salad and that's why I ordered that instead but after comparing, I would def order the individual size instead to get more Hainan chicken. The chicken is comparable to savoys but their green onion sauce is out of this world!!! So good! The rice is a bit on the harder side for me but with the green sauce over it, it just made everything taste good lol. The peanuts is good but I'm not really into mala and the cucumber salad is refreshing w a spicy kick. It also comes w chicken broth which was surprisingly healthy tasting. We were expecting msg but nope just light broth. Overall: this place is a bit far from where I live but if I'm ever in the area, I wouldn't mind coming back as the price was very reasonable and service was excellent and the green sauce was so good! 3.5 stars because of the poor store condition. If they fix their ceiling this would be a solid 4 stars!

Just recently tried hainanese chicken and I've been missing out. Soo flavorful. The chicken is juicy and the rice is garlicky and gingerly. Also since it's poached chicken it's a lot more moist and healthy. Still looking for the best spot but this spot will be my reference point.

Very disappointing experience. There were three of us and we first ordered one chicken rice. The staff kept asking "Only one?" multiple times. After he went to the kitchen, we politely asked if we could change the order to Combo A. He seemed very annoyed and even made a rude "pff/psst" sound. I told him if it was not possible, we could just order another chicken rice instead. He said "I changed it for you." However, his attitude became very aggressive and we could see him slam the plate on the table. The food was good, but the service was very rude. Because of this attitude, we will not come back.

Overall, the food was spectacular and a great deal for the price. We got a Tea drink as well which was affordable and tasty. The service was fast and friendly. Highly recommend Cluck2Go if you're looking for some excellent Hainan chicken.

I was planning to stop here couple days ago but couldn't find parking. Where can I park?

I always just park right in front or across the street on Colorado. There’s usually space even during rush hour. Park run and pick my stuff up run out. The place is so fast. Everything’s always ready to go delicious chicken BTW.

Will they do boneless and/or skinless hainanese chicken rice if asked?

Do you no longer include the sauces for Hainan chicken rice? I ordered three orders through UberEats, and no sauce was included. Do we have to order them separately and pay extra for the sauce? The photo in the menu shows two sauces as part of it.

Do they include the soup in takeout?

    Yes

Do they no longer include the chicken soup with the regular orders? Mine didn't come with today.

Did they get rid of the noodle soup?

yes and the curry ! back to savoy i guess

I understand the delivery fee, but what is the added $6+ service fee for?

Dine-In Last Time. Sorry Don't Know Abt Delivery.

Do they use cage free chicken, free range, organic?

    Hahaha, I highly doubt it.

    Are you gluten free?

Rice is gluten free and you can always not order the fried chicken

    Do they have brown rice?

No, but they make a chicken flavored rice that is cooked in chicken broth. It's really good.

They also give free peanuts for appetizer and serve jasmine hot tea which gave me so much energy for my dinner! I'm on a no sugar diet because I've been having too much sugar lately or else i would have ordered more! ALSO park across the street! On Friday night, after a long work week. We ordered beef udon with xo sauce ($19.75), salt & pepper chicken wings ($18.75), honey garlic pork chop ($19.75) and beef wrap (roll?) $15.50. The beef udon had a bit of spice that was a little too much for me. The noodles itself had a good chew to them. The beef had good flavor but the dish was a little too spicy for me overall. The salt & pepper chicken wings lacked flavor and was heavily battered. Not that much chopped up chilis & green onion with it. The honey garlic pork chop just wasnt for me. You see it and it looks like salt & pepper pork chop but its not. The sweetness threw me off. Just some fried garlic thrown on top... Not a fan of this dish. The beef rolls, as i know them, from the original location looked like a 'lite" version of what I've come to expect and have had from Mama Lu's. There was not as much meat as typical, not as much cilantro which was fine by me but also some of the rolls didnt have the hoisin sauce. That's what gives it the finishing flavor... There was also none given on the side. Bummed cause I was craving it. Just disappointing. Maybe it would be better eaten there but like I said, I've had Mama Lu's before and this was far from the experience I was used to having. Didnt order the XLB cause this was for delivery and we'd rather not sacrifice the quality.

Bowls of steamed rice cost $2.50, and we each got one. Portions are generously large and worth the cost; we took leftovers home. The tea offered to us tasted good. The slippery shrimp had a nice crisp with a pleasant blend of sweet, tangy, and spicy flavors. There's a slight spice from the red chili that felt mild on my tongue. This was our first time trying out the dish, and we liked it the most. The orange chicken tasted solid, and it had a slightly crispy texture. For some reason, the rice had an aftertaste I wasn't familiar with, but it was still fresh. There was a fortune cookie at the end of our meal. I'd come back for the slippery shrimp and order something other than the orange chicken. The restaurant opened at 11:30 am, and we were one of the first customers to dine in. Smoky, just the right amount of spicy, and addictive. Now for the real test: my in-laws. They've been to *many* dim sum places and are not easily impressed. If you're a fan of bold, authentic flavors and reliable service, this spot is definitely worth visiting. Tip - If you're new to the cuisine, I strongly recommend getting everything MILD spicy. I've been told by some of my colleagues that MILD spicy is still pretty spicy, so be warned. With that said, strongly recommend the dishes below. Lamb with Cumin 11/10 - My favorite dish here by far. It can get really busy, though, so expect to wait or just call in your order and take your food to go. I recommend the soy sauce tofu with beef dish. It's fire. Massive W. Gen Z words. Good.

I was surprised to read here on Yelp that the original famed chef left for a few years and recently returned, because I did not notice any major changes in the quality of the dishes I usually order. The current manager was my waiter this time, and he said that staffing has been a challenge; he himself also worked here, left , and returned. Colette offers a somewhat non-traditional, somewhat elevated menu, not as varied as other Chinese places, although they do offer dim sum and lunch specials. Note the menu on the website is old and kind of obsolete; the newer menu, which is laminated and has photos, is more extensive. The dish I always order is their fabulous chayote minced pork. I've also ordered their live lobster when I have a hankering. They have the lobsters and crabs in tanks on view, priced per pound. They can prepare it in several ways; I always choose stir-fried with ginger and scallions and add noodles. They also have some specialty dishes like winter melon soup that you must order in advance. I ordered 3 other dishes, only one for the first time. That was honey-glazed beef cubes. Slices of beef covered in sliced almonds on a bed of asparagus with an orange sauce that was similar to orange marmalade. Tasty and unique. The other 2 dishes that I've had before were the golden yolk luffa and the goo-loo pork (aka sweet and sour pork). Luffa is a gourd (like a cucumber) that is edible when young, but turns into the fibrous sponges we bathe with when mature. It's slighty bitter, here stir-fried with salted egg yolk. The pork was pretty traditional, slightly elevated with the addition of strawberries. For me, a reliable neighbourhood spot for Chinese. I hope they can keep it together.
