The new decoration of the store is so beautiful. The environment is very clean. The service is excellent! The owner gave us spring rolls. We'll come again next time. The parking space is a bit inconvenient.

This is food you eat when you're high or drunk. Not worth the price. The restaurant looked like a mess.

Can you make gluten free food?

    Yes, We do

Do the cooks here use msg?

I'm just a customer so I can't say for sure. If there is msg, it must be very light and I can't taste it. Some Chinese restaurants use a lot and you can tell with each bite. Not so here

How's the parking situation in this restaurant's area?

parking lot behind the restaurant. Limited street parking too

What is the difference between their Phoenix chicken and Orange chicken?

They cook with the same sauce. The Phoenix Chicken is white meat, but the Orange Chicken is dark meat.

Walking in you get to see a nice display case of various pastries and a cute space with a few tables set up. They also have seating outside on Green if you prefer al fresco dining. It seems they have more substantial food than just pastries but I was just after the pastries. Staff were all kind and friendly, helped me pack up my goodies and I basically gobbled them up as I was walking some more. I got the canele and really enjoyed it. It had a nice, crisp exterior with a very soft, custardy center. Texturally, the canele was great. The paris-brest was also pretty good (doesn't rival ones I've had in Paris but thats likely a high bar). I found the praline cream super decadent and rich with hazelnut flavor but the choux itself wasn't amazing. However, I found out afterwards that this is a fully vegan establishment and was astounded that they got such wonderful textures and flavors without butter. With that knowledge, I was amazed at the renditions of these desserts and think its an amazing option for folks with a vegan diet to have excellent French pastries. I definitely recommend it as a vegan bakery and even as a great bakery for non-vegans.

Very disappointing experience with how we were treated…read more We went here for lunch last weekend and waited about an hour and a half for a table. When the host at the front, who was managing the waitlist, told us our table was getting cleaned, she pointed to a specific table that was being cleaned by the busboys. Shortly afterward, I saw a customer approached the staff, and they seated him at the same table we had just been told was ours. I immediately asked the manager what was going on. The manager told me that the host had "said it wrong" and that the other customer had a reservation. I understand that reservations need to be honored, but then why were we told that this particular table was ours after we had already waited 90 minutes? We had given our name, followed the waitlist process, and patiently waited. If there was a reservation for that table, the staff should have known and communicated that clearly. The next available table could have been given to the reservation party. What made the experience even more uncomfortable was the manager's attitude toward us compared with his attitude toward the other party. We had done nothing wrong. We were understandably unhappy because someone else was seated at the table we had just been promised. Since the confusion was caused by the restaurant, we would have appreciated at least a meaningful "I'm sorry." Instead, the manager seemed annoyed when speaking with us (think about a cold tone voice and side eyeing). At the same time, he was smiling and friendly toward the other party. The difference in attitude was very noticeable and left us feeling like we were not being treated fairly or equally. This was especially uncomfortable with the difference in our ethnicity and the other party. I cannot say for certain that race was the reason for what happened, but the combination of being passed over for a table we were told was ours, and then seeing the manager treat the other party so differently made it very difficult not to question. I hope the restaurant reviews how its hosts and managers handle situations like this, because customers deserve to be treated consistently and respectfully.

My friend and I shared the following dishes: -Carlos Jewel Box: My favorite dish here. I just loved the variety. Sashimi and fried seafood on a bed of fluffy and seasoned rice. Also a nice umami kick from the ikura. The sashimi was tasty and standard, but I really enjoyed the fried seafood bites. The tempura batter was great and the seafood was nice and plump. -Tendon Combo with Cold Udon: Same notes for the tempura here, the batter was great and the tempura here is on another level. I also liked the half boiled egg and breaking the yolk into the rice, so delicious! The cold udon dipping noodles were also tasty and refreshing. Great for hot weather. I enjoyed the texture of the noodles. The value of each set was pretty good for what it was and the food was good quality. This restaurant is located in a cute alleyway with good outdoor ambiance. I enjoyed dining outdoors. The service here was great and the servers were kind. There's usually a wait to eat here. You put your name in on the tablet located at the restaurant and sometimes they have a waitlist available on the Yelp app to enter in. Still very delicious though and was no wait for 6 of us for lunch on a Thursday! The cold soba was also a good compliment to the small tempura rice bowl. Overall pretty solid, though not sure if I would come here ONLY for the tempura. I heard the original location is amazing, but having this here in Pasadena and closer by is awesome too! They didn't have enough room for our party inside so we did have to sit outside which wasn't great in the warm weather. I'm glad I got to try it, as I've been waiting for months for the opportunity- as I also consider myself a lover of tempura and deep fried foods- but this didn't wow me as much as hoped a tempura place would. Maybe their batter isn't something I'm 100% into, and maybe hype played into it, but I'm not 100 % on the Carlos train yet. Maybe another visit or two will even those odds! *note: There is validated parking in the back for the first 60 minutes for Carlos Jr.

Overview: convenient kiosk ordering, tough parking, delicious dim sum…read more ---- We decided to order some dim sum to-go and got the classic offerings of siu mai, har gow, cheung fun, chicken feet, pan fried turnip cake, ginger beef tripe, black bean pork short ribs, and egg tarts. Everything, and I mean everything, was so delicious. One of the best dim sum places I've been to. The pricing of the items ranged from $8-$10 per item we ordered which is expensive but as a treat every once in a while and for the amount of time and effort that goes into making dim sum, it was worth it. I've tried making dim sum at home and it is so hard! Pricing breakdown: $8 items: - har gow (4 pcs) - siu mai (4 pcs) - black bean spare rib - pan fried turnip cake - egg custard $9 items: - chicken feet $10 items: - shrimp rice noodle roll I think they no longer have the tripe on their menu anymore bc I couldn't find it on their online ordering. Also their chili oil was priced at $0.98, which was kind of small, I would do without it next time. ---- The parking was really tough, luckily I had another person with me drop me off then I ordered and then we double parked waiting for it to be finished. The inside of the restaurant felt like an elevated dim sum place, things were neat and a darker ambiance which felt more intimate if you decided to eat in. We took ours to-go and it was still so good! ---- Overall: if I'm ever back in Pasadena I'll be sure to stop by for dim sum, classic dishes with an elevated taste, pricey but worth it

Perfect family dim sum experience for us…read more We took out my parents and in-laws for dim sum: my parents' very first time ever. We did wait about an hour, but honestly I didn't mind at all because it gave us a chance to relax, talk, and catch up as a family. Once we were seated, my parents were immediately impressed with the decor: elegant and cultural without feeling overly modern or cold. And can we talk about the tea kettles? They looked like literal pieces of art being poured at the table. Ordering was super easy with the QR code system, so my husband handled the whole spread: shumai dumplings, chicken feet, sesame balls, and more. Everything came out hot, fresh, and beautifully plated. The ENTIRE table agreed on one thing: the chili oil condiment deserves to be sold in bottles to take home. It was that good. Smoky, just the right amount of spicy, and addictive. Now for the real test: my in-laws. They've been to *many* dim sum places and are not easily impressed. They declared this place to have the best chicken feet that they've ever had: meat easily sucked off the bone, melt-in-your-mouth tender, and perfectly seasoned. High praise coming from dim sum veterans. Most importantly, my parents' first dim sum experience couldn't have been better. They loved everything from the ambiance to the food to the overall experience. My husband and I want to come back to explore more of the menu because there's clearly so much more to try
