Chicken Lo Mein

Consistency and yummy food are the reasons we keep coming back. It's one of our go-to spots for work lunches. We usually order their lunch specials or fried rice, and the taste has consistently been delicious, along with the service being great. Don't forget to say hi to Tommy, he's the best!

Went there for our church gathering about 50 people with kids, they are so nice! The food was very fast, we didn't wait that long for this big of a party. We ordered the fried rice, fried noodle, orange beef (the best!), Kung Pao chicken, walnut shrimp (crunchy and tasty), Chinese broccoli (very soft yummy!), pork chop (delicious!) We enjoyed it very much, I'd recommend this place to anyone whether small/large family gathering, office events, or just regular hang out. Check it out

2/01/2025: Our first visit to this charming, unassuming local Mandarin & Szechuan restaurant in Pasadena, and it will definitely not be our last. First, let me start by saying how we chose this restaurant for our dinner. We don't currently live in the area, however my husband was born and raised in Altadena and still owns the family home. Today was our first opportunity to come and see the home and surrounding neighborhoods after the Eaton fire. Absolutely heartbreaking, but hopefully everyone will be able to rebuild and remain #AltadenaStrong . I did some research to find a local restaurant to patronize and support while in the area, and saw a post from someone who said that the owners of GoChina had been generously supporting the local fire victims and first responders. GoChina drove up to a road closure at Lake & New York with prepared, packaged hot meals and gave them to be passed out to any and all who were behind the closure lines... they rolled up their sleeves and did the very best thing they could do to help the community, and I encourage everyone to reciprocate and patronize them in return!! They have a fantastic menu, this isn't a "basic Chinese joint". We honestly didn't know what to expect, but we were greeted so warmly by owner Joanna (I hope I'm spelling it correctly?) and seated. The restaurant is immaculate. The tables, chairs and booths are clean. The decor is simple, but nice and creates great ambiance. The cashier station looks like a warm and friendly bar, and they do have beer and wine options available. Between Joanna and Yenni, our orders were taken and our food was brought to the table with minimal wait time. These ladies were both SO friendly and engaging, even though they were busy. They have hustle! I saw no less than 10 bags lined up for take out orders being staged whenever the kitchen doors swung open. They introduced themselves and asked us our names. How often to you experience that these days? Tommy was also very friendly and came to check on us throughout the meal and thanked us for our patronage as we left. Now for the food review... deeelicious! We started with their "Signature" Indonesian Fried Rice. Well seasoned and has just a whisper of heat. I'm not always a big fried rice person because it can be bland, but this was exceptional! Each protein was cooked perfectly and were moist bites.. no diced meat nuggets like you find at some places. We recommend it! Their Combination Chow Fun was savory, the wide noodles were delightfully chewy, again the proteins were plentiful and cooked properly.. not a basic brown sauce, there is a depth of flavor that must come from the Indonesian influences.. I'd order this dish again, too! From the Chef's Special menu, the Shrimp with Pepper and Salt were calling to us, and we answered! Many may know this as "shrimp with spicy salt" at other establishments, but uniquely this one is prepared without the shells or tail which my husband preferred. I don't hate having the flavor and textures from the shells and tail, but the hubs says this was the best S&P Shrimp he has ever had! Not greasy/oily, nicely crisp and not at all overcooked. We'd have this again too! We notice the menu also has the same seasoning for pork and want to try that dish, too! The food is excellent, the service was impeccable and the business owners and employees have heart. The portions are generous, the prices are reasonable.. what else could you ask for? I hope that those who have never tried GoChina on Lake Avenue previously will patronize them now. These locals deserve the love from their community! Please thank them for their kindness, and tell them that first timers Carol & Don sent you

If you love great Chinese food Go China is the place for you and if you need catering they are great. I placed a catering order for our geology department at Caltech this past Thursday. I ordered for 20 people. I ordered egg rolls, orange chicken, broccoli and beef & vegetable chow fun. I called in the order on Tuesday and told them I'd be there at 11:15 am to pick up the order. When I arrived Tommy had all the food ready on a push cart. He was nice enough to tell me that he left the egg rolls, that were wrapped in foil, open a bit so they wouldn't get soggy. I have been happily been eating at Go China for myself since 2006 and have been placing Caltech catering orders since about 2012. I and Caltech have never been disappointed in the quality of their food. It turned out that the about 30 people ended up at the faculty lunch talk and there was still a lot of leftovers. After the talk the students happily ate the leftovers, as did I. The beef, in the broccoli and beef, is outstanding, flavorful and extremely tender. The egg rolls were crispy and crunchy thanks to the foil being pulled back. Their orange chicken is one of the best I ever eaten and the vegetable chow fun was a big hit. Thanks Tommy for all these years of great service and great food. I look forward to many more visits.

I work nearby and always go here for lunch on my days in office. service is great and the food comes out in a flash! I have 1 hr lunch and sometimes I am able to go there, finish eating and comeback to work within half an hr with some time to rest, that says a lot. When i go there enough, they start to remember my face and even my order, that shows they pay attention and appreciate regulars. The food always come out hot and fresh. I love the Kungpao shrimp and get it every time. A complimentary bowl of soup when dine in is very nice as well! Recommended!

We didn't question it and started eating. Midway through our meal, the manager came over and said it was actually a mistake - that the cucumbers were a paid item. He gave us two options: keep eating and get charged, or have it taken away and not be charged. At that point, we had already eaten about half. Of course, we declined the extra charge since we genuinely thought it came with our order. What happened next is what lost me as a customer. The manager took the dish and immediately dumped it in the trash right behind me, where I could hear it. It felt unnecessary and honestly a bit disrespectful. A better way to handle it would've been to acknowledge the mistake and just comp the dish this time. Instead, it turned into an awkward moment over what couldn't have been more than a few dollars' worth of cucumbers. Not a great experience, and not a place I'd return to based on how this was handled.

We ordered the pork soup dumplings, pan-fried dumplings, and beef roll. The soup dumplings were the highlight -- thin skin, super juicy, and packed with rich broth. Just be careful because they come out really hot. The pan-fried dumplings had a crispy bottom with a juicy, flavorful filling, which I loved for the texture contrast. The beef roll was also really good -- flaky on the outside with tender beef inside, and a nice savory sauce that ties everything together. Portions are generous and prices are pretty reasonable for the quality. It definitely has that busy, no-frills SGV dumpling house vibe, but the food is what you're here for. Overall, I'd come back when I'm craving comfort food and dumplings done right.

If you haven't tried the seaweed fish it's a very unique dish I recommend if you like fried fish, this is a very tasty fish. It's green but it tastes so good. I love ha gow, you can never go wrong with a shrimp ball steamed in rice paper. And always gotta get the green beans in for that veggie dish. The green beans are flavorful and crunchy in the right places. I had a really great time. It's honestly really fun to come here with a big group of people to enjoy a really delicious family style Chinese meal. They also give free peanuts for appetizer and serve jasmine hot tea which gave me so much energy for my dinner! The service here is also really nice the waiters and waitressses are so friendly and helpful. You can always get a refill on your waters and tea. There are also a selection of drinks to choose from. I'm on a no sugar diet because I've been having too much sugar lately or else i would have ordered more! ALSO park across the street! There is a lot for $1 for 2 hours and addition $2 for another hour I think. I ended up only paying $3 for 2 hours and 15 min. Had too much fun at my dinner.

Bowls of steamed rice cost $2.50, and we each got one. Portions are generously large and worth the cost; we took leftovers home. The tea offered to us tasted good. The slippery shrimp had a nice crisp with a pleasant blend of sweet, tangy, and spicy flavors. There's a slight spice from the red chili that felt mild on my tongue. This was our first time trying out the dish, and we liked it the most. The orange chicken tasted solid, and it had a slightly crispy texture. For some reason, the rice had an aftertaste I wasn't familiar with, but it was still fresh. There was a fortune cookie at the end of our meal. I'd come back for the slippery shrimp and order something other than the orange chicken. The restaurant opened at 11:30 am, and we were one of the first customers to dine in. The ambience was quiet and relaxed, but they got busier as many more people arrived. Service was good as the staff packed our leftovers in containers for us. Perfect family dim sum experience for us…read more We took out my parents and in-laws for dim sum: my parents' very first time ever. We did wait about an hour, but honestly I didn't mind at all because it gave us a chance to relax, talk, and catch up as a family. Once we were seated, my parents were immediately impressed with the decor: elegant and cultural without feeling overly modern or cold. And can we talk about the tea kettles? They looked like literal pieces of art being poured at the table. Ordering was super easy with the QR code system, so my husband handled the whole spread: shumai dumplings, chicken feet, sesame balls, and more. Everything came out hot, fresh, and beautifully plated. The ENTIRE table agreed on one thing: the chili oil condiment deserves to be sold in bottles to take home. It was that good. Smoky, just the right amount of spicy, and addictive. Now for the real test: my in-laws. They've been to *many* dim sum places and are not easily impressed. They declared this place to have the best chicken feet that they've ever had: meat easily sucked off the bone, melt-in-your-mouth tender, and perfectly seasoned. High praise coming from dim sum veterans. Most importantly, my parents' first dim sum experience couldn't have been better. Aromatic, flavorful, and the spices are just on point. Dan Dan Noodles 9/10 - Solid and consistently good. The sauce is properly seasoned and truly compliments the perfectly cooked noodles. The current manager was my waiter this time, and he said that staffing has been a challenge; he himself also worked here, left , and returned. Colette offers a somewhat non-traditional, somewhat elevated menu, not as varied as other Chinese places, although they do offer dim sum and lunch specials. Note the menu on the website is old and kind of obsolete; the newer menu, which is laminated and has photos, is more extensive. The dish I always order is their fabulous chayote minced pork. I've also ordered their live lobster when I have a hankering. They have the lobsters and crabs in tanks on view, priced per pound. They can prepare it in several ways; I always choose stir-fried with ginger and scallions and add noodles. They also have some specialty dishes like winter melon soup that you must order in advance. I ordered 3 other dishes, only one for the first time. That was honey-glazed beef cubes. Slices of beef covered in sliced almonds on a bed of asparagus with an orange sauce that was similar to orange marmalade. Tasty and unique. The other 2 dishes that I've had before were the golden yolk luffa and the goo-loo pork (aka sweet and sour pork). Luffa is a gourd (like a cucumber) that is edible when young, but turns into the fibrous sponges we bathe with when mature. It's slighty bitter, here stir-fried with salted egg yolk.
