Came with some friends one night and ordered Shrimp Chow Mein, Orange Chicken, Sizzling Black Pepper Beef, and Hot & Spicy Eggplant. Everything tasted pretty generic. Nothing really stood out here but nothing was bad at least. I've had plenty of Chinese restaurants in Chinese population dense areas such as Monterey Park, Alhambra, etc. and this doesn't hold up against them in terms of flavor. Been hearing about the Chong Qi Chicken (think of popcorn chicken but w tien tsin chiles & sichuan peppercorn) at J's Chinese Cuisine. Got there before dinner rush. The entree serving was huge!! There was plenty left over. I love the sensation that the sichuan peppers (zesty and extremely numbing) & tien tsin chiles (spicy & burning) give, along w the hint of garlic and other spices. It was deliciously fire!! Only thing that hinders me from enjoying this fully was that the chicken is made with dark meat chicken thighs. Other than that it was still good and I did enjoy it. Girls at the counter were very friendly. Inside was clean, and parking... not sure if there's a back lot for parking since I found a spot on the street, right in front. The place is located at a corner mini mall off Los Robles and Orange Grove Blvd. There is little parking in front so you have to enter the driveway off Los Robles to parking lot and then go down a ramp to the orange Grove side to finally get to the restaurants entrance. The place is small with a few tables inside- better to take out or order delivery. I ordered online and was given a 30 min completion time, when I arrived the order was ready. The pork fried rice was fluffy and full of flavor, the chow fun was good and the chicken was fried to perfection, when topped with the sweet and sour sauce was the perfect bite. This was the first time I have tried the food it was made fresh and full of flavor. The only thing I would change is the size of the vegetables in the sweet and sour sauce, they need to be cut smaller to make it easier to eat with the fried meat. My family and I went to Americas Got Talent and this Chinese restaurant was perfect and only 6mins away. Parking was easy they had their own little parking garage and easy access to the restaurant. The service was amazing our waitress was on it and took our order and gave us great service. The owner was so sweet she took the time to check on us and had Greg convos with her she was so awesome! The ambiance was very nice and quiet this is a great restaurant to go to if you're looking for good authentic Chinese food. The owner was telling me how she makes sure everything she makes their dishes with is quality food. You can tell even the orange chicken was very good and made with real chicken breast. Everything was very flavorful and soooo good! Our boys loved everything and my husband too. Yummy local Chinese restaurant! Just had a great dinner from J's after having to deal with my indecisive self for an hour lol. I placed a phone order; I got the orange chicken and a side of steamed rice. The lady on the phone was very kind and quick when taking my order, they said about 10 minutes for my order to be ready. It took me about 3 min to get here and I went inside right away to pay. The restaurant was very clean and the lighting is bright in there. I think it looked very nice! The lady who helped me at the counter was very kind and told me my food would be ready momentarily. I sat and after about 3 min she brought it out, all super quick! The food was steaming hot still when I arrived home! Portions are amazing, I had enough leftover for lunch at work tomorrow and I'm a hefty eater! The orange chicken was sooo good, I really enjoy the way they batter the chicken, different from other places. The rice was soft, fluffy, and sticky; the perfect steamed rice! I really enjoy this restaurant for their food, their service, and their ambiance. I usually get one of their soups like Hot and Sour or Wonton. Something about it take me back to when I was younger and trying a Chinese restaurant for the first time. They also have some of my favorite dishes from more recent years like the Spicy Chicken dish. You can't go wrong with any of the old classics either. The dumplings are good too. Everyone is always friendly towards us and the service is attentive. This is a selfish post. I sometimes don't want to review hidden-gem restaurants that I love because I don't want them to become over crowded, but this place needs your business. It's sincerely the best Chinese Restaurant in Pasadena imo. It'd be such a shame if it closed. What they lack in atmosphere they make up for in yummy, freshly prepared food. The first time I came here, I knew the moment they brought my cucumber salad out that this place was different. It's was all freshly chopped, garlic as well. I'm sorry, but I have to say this. When this transitioned from the old Chinese restaurant (Ming's) in this location to J's, everything tasted so much better. You can tell from the original reviews back in 2023 when J's opened they had consistently good food and a significant improvement on the previous restaurant; however, that's no longer the case. I'm not sure if the original J's owner who turned this place around sold it or the kitchen staff changed, but the food is no longer as good. This is disappointing because I really wanted to support this place. Everything tastes different slightly, and not in a good way. As if they were given the recipes from the prior management/owner/staff, but can't make it as well anymore. I get a stomach ache now regardless of what I order, so I'm done trying because I'm currently in pain, again. New items keep getting added to the menu, which isn't necessarily a bad thing. But I rarely find that restaurants with such a large menu do a great job making everything with high quality and consistency. I prefer restaurants that keep a smaller menu they can execute perfectly every time. If the original menu items are of no interest anymore to management, then please just take them off the menu and convert this into the restaurant you prefer this to be now with a different name.
