I never thought I'd see a combination of Cajun seafood boil and Sichuan food but here we are. The fusion works surprisingly well! We got Combo A with shrimp and crawfish tossed in their mixed boil sauce, which was incredibly rich and flavorful. It came with corn, potatoes, and a boiled egg that soaked up all that delicious sauce. The crawfish were some of the biggest I've seen, they definitely hook it up with the portions. The Chinese specialties were also good, we ordered the Tea-Smoked Duck which had tender, smoky meat and the Beef Dry Pot. Fair warning on the dry pot: we ordered the medium spice level and it was extremely spicy, so beware if you are sensitive to heat! That numbing Sichuan kick was intense but solid. The menu has so many dishes to choose from, including seafood boil deals for both individual diners and larger parties. There are also tons of add on options you can choose from to customize your seafood boil. The seafood is priced by market price, and I really like that they display the current seafood prices right at the front so you know what to expect. One of the highlights is the COMPLIMENTARY appetizer bar that's included when you dine in! There are so many different options available, so you definitely won't go hungry while waiting for your food. I also really liked that duck meat is included as one of the appetizer and side dish options! As for the food, everything was great! We picked peeled shrimp, crayfish, mussels, and clams. We also added half pound of sausages. It came with two potatoes, two eggs, four corns and broccoli. For our sides, we chose sweet potato fries, dumplings and chicken wings. Service was fast but when we saw our order, we questioned ourselves if we can finish this. To our surprise, we actually did. We saw Crab Grabber on Facebook and decided to bring the family in for a Sunday lunch. It looked like they may still be in a soft-opening phase--the sign said "Grand Opening Soon"--but the experience was already very enjoyable. Parking was easy when we arrived shortly after opening. The ambiance is fairly simple and what you'd expect from this type of restaurant, but the warm welcome from Kelly immediately set a great tone. She greeted us with the sweetest smile, took excellent care of our table throughout the meal, and was genuinely awesome. We ordered the crab-and-shrimp combo with added broccoli and corn, and it was really good. Everything was flavorful and satisfying. We also tried the duck, which was sold out by the time we arrived, but we were able to take some home. The skin could have been crispier, and the meat was slightly underdone for our preference. After a quick finish in the air fryer, though, it was delicious. The biggest surprise was the catfish: perfectly cooked fish in a flavorful, not-too-salty broth with lots of bean sprouts, peanuts, cabbage, and cured meat. It had great umami and was easily one of the standout dishes of the meal. The scallion beef pancake was good as well. The pancake itself was excellent--crispy, savory, and satisfying--although the beef could have used a bit more seasoning. Still, the pancake really carried the dish. The side dishes were also impressive. The garlic beef was excellent, and we enjoyed the spicy tofu. The sesame balls were the one item that could use some improvement; they seemed as though they had been sitting out a bit too long, so the exterior had dried up. Keeping them under warming lights or serving them fresher would make a difference. To top it off, the owner came by to check on us and personally said goodbye when we left. It had a nice, smoky flavor, and portions were generous. The leftovers heated up nicely the next day as well! The kung pao chicken was pretty meh and tasted much too sweet. It felt like an Americanized version of the dish rather than having an authentic taste. The fish took so long to come out that we were pretty much done eating when it was finally brought out. Looking at the time stamps on my photos, it came out a full 30+ minutes after the first dish, the seafood combo, came out. We tried a little bit just to taste it. The fish itself tasted very fresh and delicious, but it was very bland. Didn't taste much garlic, and it definitely could've used more salt. My husband found this place in Pasadena and it's a cool spot to come to. Parking can be a pain though. You can park in the back, but when it's full, there's not many options. They don't have alcohol. The food is delicious and staff is nice. My husband loves the salad bar which is open to the customers. They hand you popcorn in the beginning when you get seated too. The only downside is that the food and service is slow. It's hard to call on staff and it takes a long time before the food comes out. If you have patience though, it's worth it. I could have straight up just ordered rice and everything at the front could've made a full meal. We still ordered off the menu to get a seafood boil with shrimp, and a spicy sliced beef dry pot. The seafood sauce was obviously more Cajun than Chinese with lots of spicyness and garlic, though the shell-off shrimp was cooked Chinese style. This was super flavorful. The way that there was broccoli that absorbed the sauce was amazing. This came with a side which we got dumplings, which were average, but we'll take it. The sliced beef dry pot I was warned that it was going to be spicy, and it was indeed the spiciest of them all, with each bite getting exponentially worse with all the chili seeds hidden in every crevice of the beef. The corn was delicious and the sausages were great add ons. Note 1 lb of snow crab is literally one cluster and that's it. We also ordered the Spicy Fried Chicken and Cucumber Egg dish. The fried chicken was so good but definitely very spicy. Our first dish came more than an hour in which was only 1 seafood boil. By the time it had hit 2 hours, we still hadn't received the cucumber egg. We asked them to cancel it if it wasn't made yet and they eventually brought it out but did take it off the tab. They have the classic seafood boil flavors, but also Szechuan and garlic if you want to switch things up. The steamed garlic fish was a surprise favorite. The broth was SO flavorful. Combined with the free snack bar, it's incredible value -- around $20 per person and we were completely stuffed. We chose the lemon garlic butter flavor, and everything was fresh, juicy, and well-seasoned. They even provide tools for cracking snow crab legs, which made it super easy to enjoy. One thing that really stood out was their complimentary sides bar--it's kind of like a mini buffet with lots of options to add to your meal, which we didn't expect but definitely appreciated! We love this spot because not only do they have excellent options for seafood boil, but they also have really good Chinese food too. They have all the usual cajun flavors for the boil, but what's a game changer for us is you can also choose a spicy mala or a non-spicy ginger garlic Chinese flavor for your boil. We've tried both and the mala is our favorite. The Chinese dishes we've tried have been really good too. Their new tea smoked duck came out so juicy and flavorful. And the snack bar is excellent- they have several cold dishes you can just serve yourself, and they keep it all clean and fully stocked. My husband and I ordered the ChongQing sauce with our seafood boil and it was like we were eating a spicy ChongQing hot pot with our seafood! Spicy, Numbing and Garlicky! They also have an unlimited cold appetizer and snack bar. We enjoyed them all because we love spicy Sichuan food! Their menu is extensive! Crab Grabber offers seafood boil and also traditional Chinese dishes, so it seems to be very abundant in options. The crab boil deals also seem to be such a steal since it includes your seafood of choice as well as sides. They even have a serve yourself buffet area where you can get some salads or very niche Chinese dishes that you don't typically see which is really cool. However, I feel that with so much that Crab Grabber is trying to do - complimentary buffet section, crab boil, Chinese food, they fall short in truly excelling or doing one exceptionally well. Crab boil is what we came for and it was pretty lackluster in flavor. Not enough seasoning. Do not be expecting your typical Cajun experience here. They're pretty skimpy on the sides. We were rationing them between our group. We didn't particularly like any of the complimentary sides either. Same thing - big batch but no flavor.
