    Shabu set - Angus Beef
    Shirley W.

We were around the area and honestly haven't been here since high school! Although, I believe it was the same quality and taste how it was back then. We came around 5:30pm and there were quite some people dining already. It does get crowded much later, so recommended to come early! Parking is very small and shared with other stores, so you're likely to do street parking around. At least street parking around here is very easy. We were seated and the service here is pretty friendly and also very efficient. They're extremely quick when they're setting up, laying out the food, and cleaning up the table. Everything goes by pretty quickly haha. We ordered just all konbu broth, 2 sets of rib eye and 2 sets of angus beef. Everything was pretty alright. The veggie bowl was pretty standard. I mainly had the angus beef and it was more on the tough side. It doesn't taste like high quality meat, so it's just very basic. The ribeye is a bit more fattier, but my dad did not seem to enjoy that one as much either haha. The ponzu sauce was fine, the sesame sauce however tasted more like mayo? I wish it was more stronger in sesame sauce. There's many non-Asian people dining here, so maybe the mayo is to cater for a more 'familiar' taste. Overall, I would say there's nothing really too special dining here. Your typical shabu joint. It does seem like it's catered to non-Asian customers here. It is very clean and spacious here though. Service is good!

Wow! The feast for TWO is a special menu, if you don't see it, you must ask for it. For me if you plan on eating with another person, this is the perfect meal! It comes with your choice of soup for 2, your own protein choices and you can upgrade your meat to a larger amount for a few bucks more, then you get to pick from premium appetizers, you get a choice of beer, sake or soda and lastly you get an amazing dessert. For me I loved that monster tempura matcha ice cream. Everyone gets a bowl of veggies and udon. If you don't like the variety of veggies, just say cabbage and tofu only. My favorite broth is the sukiyaki broth and love how it comes with an optional raw egg for dipping your just cooked meats. My favorite meat has to be the karubi aka short rib beef because it's marbled really well. It's easy to find parking and I love it so much!

I got the Feast for Two and everything was absolutely delicious. The restaurant is clean, well-kept, and the ambiance is cozy and inviting. The staff and waiters were super attentive, helping me pick the perfect items from the menu. Plenty of parking since it's in a plaza. Overall, a great spot for a fun, tasty shabu Shabu experience!

The soup base was clean and I appreciate redeeming the SGV Passport Deal. Free Edamame and Add-On. The meat was sliced thin so it cooked fast. Ordered the sukiyaki: 1. Chicken 2. Veggies 3. Udon 4. Rice 5. Lamb My niece wanted a lemonade. I was not a fan of the peanut sauce. Overall, it was a quick lunch with my niece.

I've been wanting to come here and really loved the overall ambiance as well as the food. I came in with a group of four and was seated right away, with plenty of seats still available. We ended up getting two "Feast for Two" meals, which came with a generous amount of food that will definitely leave you full. Each meal included an appetizer, two drinks, two large portions of meat, two special shabu soups, and a single dessert for $70. Here are the selections I tried: Fried Tempura - Fried perfectly, and the sauce it came with was great. I would recommend it. (4.5/5) Angus Prime Beef - Solid quality and very tasty. The large portion is quite satisfying. I would get this one again. (5/5) Karubi - This one was interesting, but still good. I personally preferred the prime beef more. (4/5) Broth - I tried both the Sukiyaki and the Spicy Miso. In my opinion, the Spicy Miso was a bit on the lighter side for my taste, but I really enjoyed the Sukiyaki. Sukiyaki: (4.5/5) Spicy Miso: (4/5) Tempura Ice Cream - This was interesting--strange, yet still good. It's definitely unique for a fried ice cream, and the green tea ice cream it came with was excellent. Not sure if I'd get it again, but overall, it was good. (4/5) Overall, I would come back here. The food was great, the service attentive, and we really enjoyed our time (we spent about two hours hanging out).

This is my go to place when I want something warm and delish. They have a happy hour special where I get their beef hot pot. Comes with all the side fixings and unlimited broth. Food is fresh and their dipping sauces finishes each bite. The best thing, I can walk from home. The restaurant is always clean and staff is always welcoming. They recognize me and always welcome me with a smile and "welcome back".

    Choice Rib Eye Meal

Came to O'seyo and I don't know, maybe I just ordered the wrong thing, but it was just very average. I got the regular choice ribeye meal with the kombu broth. The vegetable bowl included a solid amount of napa cabbage, a slice of kabocha, king oyster mushrooms, broccoli, and udon. You'll also get a little dish of sesame sauce and ponzu. You also have the option of fortifying your sauce with pre minced garlic, daikon, or scallions. Overall, I felt like everything was tepid. I don't know if it was a lack of salt or if it was because some of the ingredients like the garlic, daikon, and scallions were prepped long before, but it was just missing a certain oomph that shabu often provides. Moreover, a few pieces of my napa were bitter which were very off putting when I happened to pull them. Pricewise, O'seyo is good value. I also felt like my regular portion was just enough food. I just don't think it'll be my first choice to come back to when in Pasadena.

    Feast for 2

This place has been in Pasadena for over 10 years now. My dad and I came here and got the feast for 2. Super filling!! You get to pick an appetizer and drink, then 2 soup bases. You end with a dessert. Staff is extremely friendly and helpful. They help you bag up anything you are taking home. This place is family friendly or solo dining friendly too. They have deals for both. High quality meat + lots of veggies which I like.

This is not your typical AYCE shabu place. Rather, you order your protein and size and then get the accompanying veggies and carbs. I think for a non AYCE place, the price is fair and the portion is reasonable! I walk out of here comfortably full. The food and the sauces all taste yummy! No complaints! I've come here twice with girlfriends and it's always been a good time. I don't think I've ever felt rushed. The service is nice and everyone is helpful and friendly. The ambiance isn't something to brag about but it's a clean establishment, there are clean restrooms, and there's a free parking lot or free street parking nearby. I'd say the restaurant is on the smaller side so if you're coming with a large group, be prepared! My friends and I recently went during their happy hour pricing, so def check that out for a little discount! Anyways, this is a convenient place to come to when I have a shabu itch.

A very nice shabu place that you can go alone and they have special menu for 1 and 2 person. It's super worth it! The set comes with house sake as well which I think is very nice and strong. The shabu is very delicious. I ordered extra side dishes but only the set will make me full. The meat is tender. They give you appropriate veggies and noodles. Lovely service. Parking lot is free, which is a plus in Pasadena.

    Dipping sauces

I have been wanting to try this restaurant for a long while but there is always a line so... Today, I went there just as they opened at 11am so it was all good . The restaurant offers a good deal for 1 person: 1 appetizer, 1 drink, a choice of protein, choice of broth, and came with dipping sauces, veggie plate, and rice. AND, Happy Hour menu was also available to order! Appetizer: I chose takoyaki. Man, it was delicious !! I chowed it down in no time. Protein: I got chicken. I had regular size and it was plenty and very good. Drink: i chose iced green tea, but you could choose soda and other stuff. Broth: Sukiyaki and it tasted just right, not too sweet and not too salty. Of course, the 1-person deal also came with 2 dipping sauces, a bowl of rice and the veggie plate which also had udon. This place is now one of my favorite restaurants. Besides, I would love to try other broths, appetizer, and Happy Hour menu items .

    Large Prime Angus Beef
    Jocelyn C.

very delicious, but slightly expensive. we each ordered a large shabu shabu and finished all the food with no leftovers. service was quick and restaurant was clean. would definitely come back, but probably order the meal for 2 since it seemed like a better deal ordered: large angus prime beef shabu

    beef tataki

Fantastic food and service! I came later in their dinnertime service and the ambiance was lovely; quiet, with just enough noise (lowkey music and muted televisions) to keep things comfortable. Their portions are very generous; I got their solo diner shabushabu and the beef tataki roll. I didn't tet pictures because I was too hungry, but the appetizer (I got veggie tempura, four LARGE pieces) and veggie platter were enough to serve a group of two. The meat portion was small but the quality was fantastic. I ordered the angus beef and it tasted like a thicker slice of a good filet mignon you can get at a proper pho joint--none of that freezerburn stuff. Their refillable soft drinks include Arnold Palmers, lemonade, and Shirley Temples. The beef tataki was good! Not much to say, but the bite I had was a good and proper crunch roll. Definitely coming back, I feel like it was a proper bang for my buck.

There are a number of small boutique stores located here. This Japanese restaurant was a great find when I was out walking. I was actually going to pick up some food at another place. I read some of the reviews to get an idea of what to expect and was pleased to find that the food here is very good. This is a takeout only restaurant. They cater and also Chef Maezaki teaches sushi techniques in the surrounding area. I entered the front door and walked to the large counter. I was greeted with a smile and a friendly hello. I asked a number of questions and realized that I must be talking to Chef Maezakl. He showed me the menu. He also showed me specials that they were offering. After taking some time I decided to order the special wagyu beef entree, and a spicy tuna hand roll. I sat down in one of the chairs available and waited. I could smell great aromas from the food being prepared in the kitchen. I was happy when my food arrived about 15 minutes later. I could sense his pride in what he had prepared for me. I enjoyed the complete dinner that was the wagyu beef entree. There was rice, pickled cucumber, California roll sushi, a special piece of fried chicken, and chicken gyoza. It came in a perfectly packed & arranged container, ready to eat. I'm happy to say the taste translated to a great experience in dining. The marinated beef was tender and flavorful. The chicken was moist tender with a crisp exterior. The cucumber salad was bright and refreshing. The fresh sushi was a nice touch. I went back another time to try the cold chicken ramen, a three piece chicken appetizer, and the tiramisu. I was happy with the fresh flavor of the vegetables in the ramen. It was a nice change. All I can say about the tiramisu is that it has an addicting flavor! I can't wait to have it again. It's nice that the parking lot accommodates all the small boutique businesses. Ambiance is super cute, love the little flags over the sushi/shabu bar and the art on the walls adds to the Japanese restaurant feel. The aroma when you walk in is mouthwatering (I was really hungry) but it doesn't smell fishy like some sushi places can. Staff is unbelievably great, super friendly and helpful if you have any questions about the menu or want recommendations. Don't be afraid to ask what the MP is on omakase, they totally work with what you're looking to spend or based on how many pieces of sushi you want to eat. Now for the real reason to visit Osawa: the food is absolutely amazing!!! Fresh, tasty, perfectly portioned. From the shishito peppers appetizer to the sushi, sashimi, hand rolls, and shabu; I cannot recommend this place enough! They have plenty of sake options to pair with your meal as well as beer or specialty cocktails if that's your preference. They offer to explain your order when it arrives which is great for those newer to sushi or just trying something different. Seriously, some of those fish practically melt in your mouth. I personally haven't ordered any rolls yet but they absolutely look delicious. If you're looking for a good sushi date spot, this. is. it. It's also good for a small group, maybe up to five or so before you feel cramped. Shabu is seated at the bar and their meats and veggie are delicious and fresh, enhanced by the tasty broth. After more than a year away, I decided to give Osawa another try on May 8, 2026. Unfortunately, the experience confirmed why I had stopped coming. Around 9:02 p.m., my waiter came by to ask for last orders. I ordered chicken karaage. This is a simple dish that usually comes out in about 4 to 5 minutes. For whatever reason, the order did not arrive until around 9:26 p.m. -- almost 25 minutes later. It seemed obvious that the order had been forgotten. When the karaage finally arrived, it looked hastily sauced. Several parts of the chicken were unsauced, which is not how the dish was normally served in the past. Given the delay and the apparent mishandling, I did not touch the dish. A Japanese male manager wearing glasses then came over. He recognized me, and I explained that I had not been back for more than a year because of the food poisoning incident from fish in 2025. Instead of responding seriously, the manager smiled and giggled slightly, then launched into an irrelevant conversation about his connections in the Japanese food industry in Old Town Pasadena. When he asked why I had not touched the chicken, I explained the almost 30-minute delay and the problems with the dish. Rather than comping the item or offering a real apology, the manager asked whether I still wanted to eat it or would prefer to cancel it. He then ended the conversation by suggesting that I come in during weekday lunch for the $18 lunch specials. That response was bizarre and tone deaf. I did not return after a food poisoning incident to hear a sales pitch about lunch specials. I returned as a longtime customer giving Osawa another chance. Osawa's way of doing business has changed a lot. I've seen better customer service at Erewhon.

Her food was forgotten, and after more than 35 minutes in an otherwise empty restaurant, it only arrived after I followed up. We were still charged for it. We decided to take our food to go when the server chuckled as she gave us complimentary edamame beans, even after I directly communicated to her that my daughter does not eat beans. This was our queue to leave after realizing she didn't actually care about how long we've already been waiting, and that my toddler was not going to eat the free beans she was trying to feed us. There was no real apology or accountability, and the overall attitude felt dismissive. If this is how longtime customers are treated, I would not recommend dining here. Based on this experience, I won't be returning.

It came with a cabbage salad, miso soup, bowl of rice and surprisingly some Mac salad. I honestly thought it would have had more sashimi cause the dish was kinda small but no worries. Next time I'll try the sushi lunch combo cause my coworker got that and it looked like a good deal - it came with 5 pieces, a California roll and a spicy tuna roll. She only got miso soup and not the salad though. Food was pretty good. I did get a stomachache later but I think maybe it was just too much fried food or I just ate too much cause the fish tasted fine when I was there. There's only two bathrooms though - one for men and one for women. The one for women was out of order so they let me use the men's. It was clean. I just note this cause I dislike having just one bathroom for a fairly mid size restaurant. We also walked here so I'm not sure about the parking situation but I didn't see a lot so I'm guessing street parking on green or Wilson is what you'll have to do. The only other downside was that the couldn't do separate checks which always sucks in a group setting. Anyways, it's better than the other sushi place near our workplace so I'd give this place another chance.

I ordered the omakase A which came with 8 different assortments of sushi and a spicy tuna roll. They look super delicious and taste just as good! The fish is just fresh and I'll definitely say the prices aren't too bad for a sushi restaurant. The decor of the restaurant is modern and minimalistic which gives a nice upscale vibe. The servers were very attentive and even cleared plates very quickly that were in our way. My husband works down the street and I am so glad we took a leap of faith and tried a new sushi spot!
