Ramen, appetizers and a sushi menu featuring Complex American style Maki rolls, nigiri, sashimi and appetizers. They also feature a robust selection of no rice sushi choices. Now when your first round arrives you will note that some items like the Nigiri are 1/2 size pieces and the rolls have 2-6 cuts. This is a feature and not a bug. Remember this is all you can eat so taste everything and order more of the items you like best. Smaller works better here. Less commitment to overeating. Service is fast and friendly. Solely based on service today. My family often visit and today was the first time we truly experienced terrible service. There seemed to be a lot of miscommunication regarding seating our party. Our server ignored our group for over 15 minutes while attending to tables who sat after us. We were genuinely shocked at the service today since it's never been this bad. The restaurant wasn't busy, we were there at an off hour, when we sat half the restaurant was empty. Food in general was tasty as usual. My coworkers and I celebrated our two interns graduating at Aikan on a Thursday night. We were a party of 9. We did the regular AYCE dinner. 3 rounds in 2 hours. Our favorites were the salmon kama, yellowtail kama, tonkotsu ramen, udon, and seared tuna poke, salmon poke, and yellowtail poke. My coworkers complimented the flavor of the beef teriyaki. Thank you to management for comping us dessert: 9 macaron sandwiches filled with different ice cream flavors (green tea, mango, strawberry, and vanilla). One of my favorite AYCE sushi spots! The quality and taste are always super consistent, which is honestly hard to find with ayce. The fish-to-rice ratio is perfect- not too heavy on the rice, so you can actually enjoy more variety without getting full too fast. I also really like their appetizer selection- there's a great variety, and the portions are smaller, which is perfect for ayce since you can try more dishes without filling up too quickly. It does get really busy, but the service never disappoints. Everyone is so friendly and attentive, from the bussers to the hostess, servers, and even the manager. Okay, so been meaning to try this place forever. Luckily my son was off from school on a weekday so we could try the lunch, which is a mercifully reduced cost from the dinner and weekend AYCE prices. I believe you can go with the AYCE menu or the a la carte way. This is on Green Street in mid-Pasadena, where there is lots of construction, parking laws, those stupid covid outside dining areas that no one uses anymore but take up blocks of parking spots (Aikan doesn't have this but go up one block to Colorado and the fact is the city council needs to have these all removed now!). Anyway, went on a weekday for lunch and mercifully found parking on the block (one and only spot), so we got lucky. The restaurant itself is very nicely decorated inside and the service is very friendly, although I did notice that while the older Asian gentleman was working his butt off delivering dishes, a couple of young Asian female servers were either working slow or too busy talking to off-duty female workers who came in just to chat. So, while I wouldn't complain about the service, a tough manager could get it running much more efficiently. But let's get to the food, since we did AYCE, which is always great for trying lots of stuff. I will say from the start that I only eat ramen and cooked Japanese food. I'm not a sushi person, mainly cause I hate the taste of seaweed. Probably due to growing up in a beach town, swimming in the ocean, and having to end up with that stuff in your mouth as a kid. Anyway, I don't like seaweed. However, all the food we tried was generally fantastic. The highlights right off the bat were the spicy tuna on crispy rice, the beef teriyaki, the cucumber salad (sunomono), and the spicy tonkatsu ramen. The jalapeño shrimp was good. The shrimp are giant, and the sauce is as described. It maybe isn't the most shining combination of ingredients, however. Maybe some kind of wasabi sauce might work better. I don't know. The gyoza were good, but once again no pan fried option (which you know is always points deducted from me!). You can get them boiled/steamed or the way they come, deep fried. Sorry, but deep fried feels like a lazy way of cooking gyoza. Then we get to the chicken. No white meat. Sigh... I really hate dark meat chicken. As always, it proved to be chewy and rubbery, though I will say it wasn't the worst. Still it put me off the chicken teriyaki, and karaage, which would both be home-runs with white meat chicken. Finally, there was the "spicy chicken" which is listed as spicy teriyaki chicken on the ordering sheet. It's not bad at all, but it's not teriyaki and it's not even Japanese. It taste literally like fajita style Mexican chicken. So, it doesn't fit in flavor-wise with the rest of the dishes. So, to sum it up, it is way better than Mabu Sushi and Ramen in El Monte, who seem to be an exact menu rip-off of this place. Lunch is totally worth it. Dinner, I don't know... cause not only is dinner pricey but there seems to always be a huge wait any night of the week especially if you dare coming on the weekend. I also cannot rate the sushi, so keep that in mind as most people would probably be focused on this. And, to be fair, I don't regularly eat breakfast or lunch, so I don't feel I made the most of this lunch experience since a late night AYCE would be the ideal time for me rather than lunch. Also, I will just add that of all these Japanese AYCE I've tried, I personally think the champion for food quality and price is Orange Fish in La Verne. I'd probably head there first for dinner, but would come back here for a lunch as long as I was hungry enough to really make a go of it. My recommendation, give them a try, especially for lunch. I think you'll be pleasantly surprised. My recommendation to the restaurant... get white meat chicken and pan fry those gyoza and you'll be the champions in town my friends. Give it a try! read more

Been craving Aikan and stopped by again today. Price is definitely much higher than my last visit but wow, the food quality feels like it's improved! The sushi tastes even more flavorful than I remember. Thoroughly enjoyed all of the nigiri, highlights being the squid (paired with mint, one of my fav flavor combos), the super juicy mackerel, and the sweet yellowtail. Also tried the scallop tots and fries with cajun seasoning and fell in love. It was so good, definitely with a spicy kick and the portion was quite generous for an AYCE appetizer. Small note that I wish the fries were more thin cut and smaller portion but just my personal preference since I like to save my stomach for all the sushi. Mussels were on point as well, love the savory sweet sauce. No rice rolls were excellent too, but the sunset was too salty. Didn't love the udon, either. It was salty and there were too many hard stalks filling the soup, so it was hard to get to the actual noodles and I couldn't finish the soup. Also dined at a small table this time. Theres never really a right and wrong time to come...Lol... Depending on wait time and if there's a holiday, weekend. The last time we were at this location I believe it was Father's Day weekend. Boy was there a wait for a table but we got lucky as there was seating at the sushi bar. Fast forward to today. There were a good amount of people in line for a table which we asked if there was a wait at the bar area. No wait, that was perfect for us. Bar seating is good as there's usually not a wait for it but it tends to be tight as in food layout. If they bring out a lot of the food at once, it's tight. The seating tends to be for two as we've never seen more than that. I'm sure they could seat more if you have a bigger group. You have the à la carte menu, AYCE both regular or premium. They normally ask which one you want before seated as it's marked on the ordering slips. They pretty much have everything for everyone. For the price of regular AYCE, it's worth it. It's basically the same as ordering 2 rolls and a drink. But instead, you have unlimited options for 2 hours. Premium, there's about 8 or so extra items available. First round comes with it but second and third is an additional fee. I've tried the premium before which was nice but the regular is always worth it. I'm not a roll person so bring me the nigiri. Lots of them please. They have loads of starters which we do order a few. But don't get full beforehand. The mussels is a major must. The way it's prepared, it's amazing and always must for us. Shishito peppers, the Portuguese sausage, jalapeño shrimps, and popcorn scallops were excellent. Salmon collars is also part of starters which was very tasty. Nice big chunks with ponzu sauce. With rolls, there's a good amount of rice hence we never order it. But they do have some options which has no rice. Bite size of goodness. Recently at a few other locations, we've noticed that the potions of the sashimi is non existent. They've cut down on portions big time. It was pretty much a sliver of fish...lol... Still tasty with the sauce and crunchy garlic. Then comes the sushi. It normally comes out in sessions if you're ordering a lot. There's been time when some items never came out but this visit, we received everything. For the price, quality was great. Everything was tasty and not too big which makes it good for having a lot. Service was always great. Plates are alway cleared out when it's empty to make room. We noticed that they didn't have any of the low soy sauce on any of the tables. Not sure if it's available. And lastly, a full portion of the spicy tonkatsu ramen. Broth was quite tasty and the all condiments added were perfect. It's quite filling. Food was great. Service was excellent. I tried the all-you-can-eat premium for $54.99. The first set was Premium cut and that was the best. The rest were mediocre. The cool part is that you get to try every single thing if you wanted to - if your stomach can handle it that is. They also had options for noodles. I tried the ramen and udon. I've been coming to this Aikan since it first opened and I swear it it never disappoints! I love coming here with my friends and ordering everything on the menu. Since opening the menu changed a little, but I would say nothing but improvements. FOOD: 5/5 Most ayce places comprise quality for quantity, but not here. The food is always on point, the fish tastes fresh and the kitchen food always comes out piping hot. My kitchen stand outs are the jalapeño shrimp, black pork sausage, and fried oysters. The addition of the no rice rolls and the seared sushis (also my fave btw) were a pleasant surprise. And of course you can't forget their poke sashimi. Unlimited sashimi is unbeatable. I love the salmon and yellowtail! Also I've said it before and I'll say it again, but they have the best miso soup I've ever had at any Japanese restaurant. I don't know why that is, but it's so good. SERVICE: 5/5 The service here is always so friendly and quick. My orders come out fast and my cup is always filled. I think the chefs don't get enough credit for how fast the food comes out considering how busy they are! Aikan in Pasadena has become one of my favorite spots, not just for the sushi but for the incredible team that runs this place. Working in sales, great customer service stands out to me instantly--and this staff is consistently exceptional. Natari, the head server, one of my favorite persons here is truly a gem. She's fast, attentive, and never misses a table. While some servers avoid eye contact when they're busy, she does the opposite--she checks on everyone, even with her hands full. She's funny, positive, and always on top of everything, no matter how long or busy the shift is Teresa, the famous hostess, is a whole experience on her own. She's hilarious, kind, and always on the move. If she tells you the wait is 45 minutes, trust her--she means exactly 45. So don't walk up to her 15 minutes later to ask how much longer when you have a text tracker telling you lol. She keeps the front running smoothly and somehow still finds time to make guests feel welcome. Gita is another wonderful server who's warm, helpful, and always a pleasure to interact with. And leading this amazing team is Manager Tei, who sets the tone with his professionalism, always dressed to impress in a suit and gracious. He's everywhere--walking the floor, taking orders, helping run food--and he always remembers his guests. This restaurant offers a very great selection with all‑you‑can‑eat, not high dining as you may expect but the ambiance and service feels far above that. Went back to Pasadena recently and I am pleased to say their quality of sushi does never disappoints. I am usually very picky with my sushi but Aikan in Pasadena hits the mark everytime. I came on a monday night around 7 and it was still pretty full, but we were able to be sat right away. The service was very smooth, our orders were taken right away and food came out pretty fast. We came here for a late night bite after a show at the Pasadena Playhouse. We were able to find some street parking. The location is very brightly lit and decorated with Halloween themes. I had seen Aikan was highly reviewed and offered AYCE. The staff was very cool and greeted us warmly. They told us they had the AYCE option or the happy hour option which I believe started at 8:30 til closing. The moment we were seated our servers attended to us fast. We chose the Regular dinner AYCE option for $42.99. The menu has an insane amount of options! Since we came in on a whim and late night we chose reliable options that we like. My fav appetizers: Miso soup. Shishito Peppers. Takoyaki. My fav rolls and sushi options: Sear Salmon. Seared Yellowtail. Seared Tuna. Yuzu Salmon. Dynamite Roll. Baked Alaskan. The service was great. Each server that either took our order or delivered the items were some of the friendliest even late into the night. The chefs were working at light speed because our items came out almost within 2-5 minutes, especially round 1. Overall, I would come back here again if you love quality sushi. WHY I CAME HERE? My dear friend and work colleague of 20+ years and I came here for our Oct 2025 b-day lunch. We celebrated each other's special day very well indeed. Disgusting. Sad to report I will not be returning... My friends took me here last year and I had decent impression of the ayce food so returned for lunch ayce. I'm not sure what happened between last year to now but the sushi quality was poor- as in most of the fish were either too fishy flavor or too bland/no flavor. The rice to fish ratio for sushi is pathetic and their selection of "no rice rolls" like the Sunset fails both in flavor and presentation. I don't know what the heck is going wrong at this place but they're most definitely cutting corners with the fish quality and adding so much rice to the fish. On top of that, the grilled fish appetizers (salmon tama) were unavailable for the lunch ayce even though that item is clearly advertised on their menu online and in-person. The service is also lacking as my water never got refilled and my orders from the previous round never came out. Just a terrible experience and I feel sad at having paid $40+ for such an unpleasant dining experience. Never to return. If you want a good ayce sushi experience, drive over to Koreatown for Here Fishy Fishy. Their rice to fish ratio is stellar and this place should learn from them. read more

Drinks order were taken right away along with the host showed us how to order so we were able to place our first round right away. The sushi came out quick as well and was very fresh and delicious. Each roll came out exactly like the picture. Serving size for each roll was about 4-6 pieces. We came here on a late Thursday night after watching a show nearby at the Pasadena Playhouse. It was about a 3-minute walk from the Playhouse. Once we arrived, the restaurant was not packed and Happy Hour was about to begin at 8:30PM. They are in the spirit of Halloween as it was decorated inside and outside. They have a separate HH menu where they list $2 sushi and discounted beers. We decided on their regular AYCE menu which was priced at $42.99 and their premium was $54.99. We were seated right away and had about 1.5 hours before last call. Once our first round of orders was placed (which was 10+ items), they were ready and served within minutes! The staff was attentive and their service was great. The quality of the fish was very fresh for an AYCE sushi place at that hour. My favorite pieces were the sushi options. I liked the seared salmon, yellowtail, and tuna. My personal favorite roll was the Venice Roll. We also ordered miso soup each round to help reset our taste buds. This had a smoky flavor which I'm not used to, but it was very delicious. Also at this hour, Sapporo beer is $2. Our first experience was delightful! I feel like the quality has gone down a little bit. The chicken karage was very dry. The blue crab legs were just okay. I would skip both these items. The premiums sushi is good. Highly recommend their salmon sashimi and nigiri's. The spicy ramen is actually spicy which is nice. For a busy afternoon the food came out pretty fast. There was a half an hour wait when there were only 2 parties in front of us and a whole half of the restaraunt being empty. They should hire more wait staff. Waitress was great, friendly and refilled our waters multiple times. Inside is dark and can get loud. Some seating outside for waiting. Unfortunate. Been coming here for years and today's experience was just not it. Got seated right away which was nice. Our server was Mike. He was very soft spoken and did not really engage with us. They don't really do an intro here. He just dropped off water, the ginger/wasabi plate, grabbed the order sheet and walked away. Not one word said to us. When he dropped off the food, he didnt explain which one was which. However, we saw how he interacted with some of his others tables and it was different. Food. The consistency of the rice was very off today. It was not good. The fish was okay. Not the freshest but then again, it is an ayce place. The hot food, like shrimp tempura and the fries, were definitely either frozen or old. The agedashi tofu was a total joke. We got 2 very thin slices of tofu. Overall, it's just mid or less. What irked me the most was the host. She was wearing a black blazer and white blouse underneath. She came to our table and asked if there were any menus she can grab. Our menu was on the booth and before I can hand it to her, she yanked it. My glasses and phone were on top of the menu. She could have easily dropped my stuff. She didn't even give me the chance to reach for it. Like what's with the rush? She was just gonna go back to the front and talk to her host friend. Props to the runners/bussers though. Great hustle. My all time favorite sushi spot! My wife and I have been here to this location and other locations so many times and we can never get enough! We were introduced to it by a friend of ours and we are hooked! There is always a line but always worth the wait because the food is AMAZING! We have few favorites! The sashimi salad is good! Soup is also good! Some of our favorite rolls Salmon tama Hawaiian roll 805 fried Tiger Rainbow I will always return! Good thing they had before is putting your name on the waitlist since we live over an hour away so it saves us time. Great Flavors, But Service Needs Work! The food here is a highlight--I'd give the meal a solid 8.5/10. Everything was flavorful and well-prepared, which makes the service issues even more of a letdown. Our experience at the table was frustrating. Empty plates were never cleared, leaving the table cluttered throughout the meal. When new plates arrived, the server just set them on the very edge of the table instead of placing them properly. To cap it off, the check was dropped off without us asking for it, making us feel like we were being pushed out the door before we were even finished. I did bring these issues to the attention of a supervisor. She was very professional, apologized for the lapses in service, and kindly provided a discount on our bill.
