    tenderloin katsu set
    Amanda W.

Katsu curry is genuinely one of my favorite comfort meals, and my husband and I spent a while searching for the best one - and Katsu Jin is our TOP place. We've been coming here consistently for the last 7 months and I genuinely get a serotonin hit every single time I take my first bite LOL. My husband always goes for the tenderloin katsu curry and I get the tenderloin katsu set with curry on the side, and we have never once been let down. The katsu is perfectly crispy without being too heavy, the curry is rich without being overwhelming, and the portions are solid. The breading is absolute perfection - it never falls off or gets soggy, which is the sign of a truly well done katsu. The service is also wonderful, which makes the whole experience even better, and the price is very reasonable for the quality you're getting. Honestly I almost want to gatekeep this place, but we've already brought so many friends here so it's too late haha. If you're looking for the best katsu curry in the LA area, I cannot recommend Katsu Jin enough!

The kind of lunch where you sit down hungry and know pretty quickly you picked the right place. Stopped by Katsu Jin for lunch and it ended up being a really solid katsu fix. We ordered the corn ribs, pork tenderloin katsu, and the cheese katsu with curry. Everything came out fast, and the setup here makes lunch feel pretty easy since you order from your phone at the table. It was simple, quick, and the staff was helpful when needed. Food-wise, this was a tasty meal across the board. The pork tenderloin katsu was the standout for me, crisp on the outside and satisfying without feeling too heavy. The cheese katsu with curry was also very good if you want something a little richer. The curry helped round it out nicely, and it felt like comfort food in the best way. The corn ribs were a fun side to start with and worked well with the rest of the meal. Service was efficient in a way that makes sense for lunch. Ordering by phone kept things moving, and the food came out quickly. Overall, I'd come back when I'm in the mood for katsu and want something dependable and flavorful. Good spot for a casual lunch, especially if you want an easy meal without a long wait.

Tried this katsu spot for the first time and it definitely left a great impression. We started with the squid legs appetizer and it was super crispy and surprisingly light, not oily at all. For the main, we ordered the katsu cheese meal with a side of curry. The cheese melt was so satisfying. The curry on the side added a nice extra layer of flavor to the whole meal. Overall, the experience was splendid. The service was friendly and welcoming. The restaurant itself is on the smaller side, but it's clean, simple, and comfortable. There's also a shared parking lot. Definitely a spot I'd come back to!

This is my wife and I's favorite katsu spot in LA. Wait time is pretty long due to the restaurant being small. It is located in a strip mall though, so parking isn't difficult. I always order a pork loin katsu. The meat is thick and nicely breaded. The katsu sauce having grinded sesame seeds goes well with the pork loin umami. The generous addition of shredded lettuce helps break the oiliness from the katsu which there isn't tha much oil to begin with. Overall, this is the best katsu spot in SGV, even better than kaguya. I'm glad I randomly came across this spot as SGV was in dire need of a good katsu restaurant for the longest time.

Soooo yummy. The katsu is breaded so lightly that it feels like it melts in your mouth. A surprising feeling given that it is a fried dish! Even the cheesy pork karsy doesn't feel as heavy as other cheesy fried dishes. The ramen is also not bad especially if you'll be sharing Anyways, highly recommend this place. Service is quick and there's free parking in the lot. Ambiance is fairly casual and it gets crowded during lunch hours!

The restaurant was really small with only a couple tables, so we waited for about 20 minutes for dinner. I really liked the pork loin katsu since it was crispy and very juicy. The cheese katsu was good too, with a crispy exterior and a gooey interior. However, the bottom sides of both katsu were a bit soggy. The portions were generous with lots of cabbage salad, picked veggies, miso soup and rice.

Excellent katsu! I tried the Chicken Katsu Meal. It came with chicken katsu, rice, miso soup, cabbage salad, and pickled side dishes. The chicken was crispy and flavorful. Also, great portion sizes & value. Prepare for a wait if you come on the weekend. This place gets packed. The parking lot is small and shared with other surrounding businesses.

We came here on a Sunday afternoon and there were many parking spots available, and the restaurant was not crowded. We were sat quickly and ordered through the online ordering. While waiting, you will crush your own sesame seed for your sauce. We ordered the chicken Katsu, tenderloin Katsu and fried squid. The Katsu was tender, and the fried part was perfect and crunchy. They give a lot of of salad so you will not run out. Our dish came with rice, soup and small sides. The best thing was the fried squid. The squid was chewy and a light leaf fried with the tempura flakes.

Really small shop. Came here around 8PM on a Thursday night and ordered corn ribs and katsu don. Had to wait around 15 minutes for a seating because they are still swamped with customer. All the food was amazing.

Katsu with a side of curry. Authentic. Whoah. 11.30.25.

South Pasadena, California. I am a katsu fanatic and dont eat much of it because its not good in LA. And i dont want to drive 30 miles for authentic katsu. Im very happy to have discovered Katsu Jin in my neighborhood. Fast, delish and authentic are the 3 things that come to mind with the food and service here. It's a small place maybe eight tables Service is very brisk and super efficient. I can't seem to get sick of Katsu Jin. It's like having it in Japan. The breading is super light crispy and the meat is very tender. I got the Katsu curry this time and light curry went so well with the Katsu and Japanese rice underneath. No reservations, just show up and fall in line. If they can't seat you at the moment, they give you a buzzer. The menu has a standard curry selection also. They also have a couple of Ramen options. There are no vegan main dishes however except for the salads, that go with katsu. The cheese Katsu is supposedly very popular. I will try that next time. When coming into the restaurant, they don't give you menus so everything is QR code; you can order from there and can also pay from there. Love love katsu jin! End of Yelp.

Katsu curry (forgot the name of the katsu but it's like a pork meatball)

Wonderful service here! Parking also isn't a problem since there's a small lot in the front. This is a nice place for simple curry katsu. Large portions and the meals seem to come with miso soup. Very clean and straightforward.

I've been to Katsu Jin a couple of times now and this place is great! The food is amazing and definitely makes me want to go back to Japan! The chicken cutlet has fantastic breading and is so flavorful. I would suggest adding the curry if you're feeling up for it. The curry isn't too heavy but is full of flavor. I want to mention that you has to scan a QR code and then add all of the food items for the entire table to online link to place the order. This includes ordering ice water. The place is fairly small with few tables so you might have to wait a bit for a table. The parking lot isn't too big, but I've never had an issue finding parking.

Pork Loin Katsu ( $18.95): Thick-cut, juicy, and perfectly fried without feeling heavy or greasy.

Tonkatsu is a dish that appears on countless menus across LA, but Katsu Jin is where it feels truly perfected. Finding such a gem tucked into a quiet strip mall in South Pasadena feels like a gift, especially for those, like myself, who don't always want to make the trek to heavy hitters like Kagura or Coco Ichibanya. Parking Parking is plentiful and free in the connected lot. Arrival & First Impressions Upon arrival, we were given a buzzer and told the wait would be about 25 minutes, but were seated closer to 15. Although it is a small space with roughly 8 tables, the space runs efficiently. Service is friendly, attentive, and quick -- and the food comes out just as fast. Food Pork Loin Katsu ( $18.95): Thick-cut, juicy, and perfectly fried without feeling heavy or greasy. The cabbage salad, dressed in a gingery carrot dressing, adds freshness and balance to the plate. The sticky rice pairs seamlessly with the katsu, and the miso soup rounds everything out nicely. Katsudon ($15.95): A deeply comforting bowl, with katsu simmered with onion and eggs in a perfectly in sweet dashi-based sauce. Perfect for a colder day. Impressively, the katsu retains it's crispy coating despite the simmer. FINAL THOUGHTS Katsu Jin, hands down, serves some of the best tonkatsu in LA. Grand total: $48.45 (tax and tip included)

The chef hands each roll to you individually and you're expected to eat it immediately to ensure the seaweed is crisp and the rice is warm. I understand they are busy, but there is no reason to swing the door at my face when I simply asked where I can put my name down on the waiting list. No answer, just rolled eyes and door in face. We really should've left because from that moment, it definitely felt like it was a mission for the two servers to make it a miserable experience for my family. I later found a small post holding up a chromebook outside of the restaurant with a paper with very small print explaining waitlist rules. It would be a lot better if the restaurant made a larger print sign that just says, "Sign In Here," and then have your small print letter to the customers about the rules. We put our name down at 12:30pm, it gave an estimated seat time of ~1pm. But because of the terrible service and mismanagement of the waiting list, we didn't get seated until 1:30pm. They seated 4 parties of 2-3 before our party of 4 when the open tables were side by side. On top of that, after we got seated, they still gave water and took the other tables orders that were seated after us before they came to us. Food took another 20 minutes to come out. I asked for the bill three times, but it didn't come until the other tables that were seated after us left and it was just empty tables next to us. In terms of the food, it was fine and the tempura was cooked well but I do not need to eat their tempura to be treated this poorly.

Staff is unbelievably great, super friendly and helpful if you have any questions about the menu or want recommendations. Don't be afraid to ask what the MP is on omakase, they totally work with what you're looking to spend or based on how many pieces of sushi you want to eat. Now for the real reason to visit Osawa: the food is absolutely amazing!!! Fresh, tasty, perfectly portioned. After more than a year away, I decided to give Osawa another try on May 8, 2026. Unfortunately, the experience confirmed why I had stopped coming. Around 9:02 p.m., my waiter came by to ask for last orders. I ordered chicken karaage. This is a simple dish that usually comes out in about 4 to 5 minutes. For whatever reason, the order did not arrive until around 9:26 p.m. -- almost 25 minutes later. It seemed obvious that the order had been forgotten. When the karaage finally arrived, it looked hastily sauced. Several parts of the chicken were unsauced, which is not how the dish was normally served in the past. Given the delay and the apparent mishandling, I did not touch the dish. A Japanese male manager wearing glasses then came over. He recognized me, and I explained that I had not been back for more than a year because of the food poisoning incident from fish in 2025. Instead of responding seriously, the manager smiled and giggled slightly, then launched into an irrelevant conversation about his connections in the Japanese food industry in Old Town Pasadena. When he asked why I had not touched the chicken, I explained the almost 30-minute delay and the problems with the dish. Rather than comping the item or offering a real apology, the manager asked whether I still wanted to eat it or would prefer to cancel it. He then ended the conversation by suggesting that I come in during weekday lunch for the $18 lunch specials. That response was bizarre and tone deaf. I did not return after a food poisoning incident to hear a sales pitch about lunch specials. I returned as a longtime customer giving Osawa another chance. Osawa's way of doing business has changed a lot. I've seen better customer service at Erewhon.

My partner and I shared the rainbow roll, mango cha cha roll, lemon salmon roll, salmon bento box, and cheese bulgogi. I really enjoyed the creative specialty sushi rolls, with my favorite roll being the mango cha cha roll. It tasted savory from the crispy shrimp tempura, while the fresh mango on top added a nice, refreshing pop of sweetness. As for the lemon salmon roll, it tasted fresh and more citrus-forward. Surprisingly, the salmon bento box was very filling and balanced. This included 2 pieces of grilled teriyaki salmon, 4 pieces of California roll, mixed tempura, miso soup, and a small salad with dressing. For anyone who does not eat raw fish, this would be the perfect dish. For the cheese bulgogi, there was a sweet-savory soy garlic flavor. I liked that the meat was thinly sliced, which paired perfectly with the gooey melted cheese. However, it was a bit saltier than I'd like it to be. Some rice and miso soup was served alongside this to balance out the richness from the cheese. Service could have been better. It seems that the staff were not very attentive at times, even though the place was not busy. Nonetheless, all of the food was pretty good and there was a chill atmosphere. This is a solid sushi bar to visit for either lunch or dinner.

There's no waitlist and no walk-ins, so plan ahead or you'll be sushi-less and sad. It's worth the call to reserve, trust me. The moment you step inside, the smell hits you--in the best way--like a warm, smoky aroma that instantly makes your mouth water. I could not get enough of how good it smelled inside the whole night. The vibe is cozy and homey, with dim downlights that spotlight each table like your own little sushi stage. It's a small place, but each table feels like a private nook, perfect for an intimate dinner or low-key celebration. The fish portions are very generous, whether you're ordering nigiri, a hand roll, or a cut roll. Everything comes out with beautiful presentation that makes you pause before devouring it. The salmon belly nigiri melts in your mouth--it's buttery in the best way. The yellowtail cut roll was fresh and flavorful, and the spicy tuna on crispy rice was a standout. They pile on the tuna, so it's definitely not a one-bite situation, and I loved the added crunch from the fish eggs in it. The spicy tuna hand roll had great flavor too, but I wish the seaweed had a bit more crunch--still, I appreciated the smart little flap at the bottom that kept all the fishy goodness inside. Honestly, every dish we tried was a hit. The vibe, the flavors, and the generous cuts of fish make this place feel extra special. Sushi Karen isn't trying to be flashy--it's just good, honest sushi done really really really well. I'd happily come back again any time (with a reservation, of course).
