Came here for lunch with two of my buddies right when they opened at 11:30am on a Tuesday. Parking is easy since it's a shared lot with Panera Bread, and there was plenty of space. At first, service was solid. Jazz was our server and since it wasn't busy yet, she was attentive and checked in on us. But about 30 minutes in, the restaurant filled up fast, and it looked like there were only about 3 servers for the whole place. After that, service really slowed down--we had to flag people down for water refills and even stood near the front just to pay our bill. Now for the food. Overall, the fish tasted fresh, but the tuna was surprisingly lacking flavor. Our favorites were the salmon nigiri and the salmon carpaccio--both were really good. The spicy tuna crispy rice was a bit of a letdown since the rice was harder than expected. On the other hand, the appetizers were a highlight. The jalapeño poppers and baked green mussels were solid, and the garlic chili edamame was drenched in a really flavorful sauce. The agadashi tofu was a pleasant surprise--crispy on the outside, soft inside, and the sauce had a nice balance of sweet, salty, and tangy. We also enjoyed the shrimp and vegetable tempura. The unagi was well-prepared too, especially since they did a good job cleaning it--no annoying bones. Skip the bay scallop and tuna nigiri. The ambiance is modern, and the noise level is moderate, so it's easy to have a normal conversation. One note for management: Jazz started off great but clearly got overwhelmed once it got busy. The whole staff seemed stretched thin, and you could see other tables getting impatient too. With better staffing, this could easily be a 5-star experience. Supporting your team more would make a big difference. Parking is free and ample. I'd be open to giving Tomikawa another try once service improves.

Underrated AYCE sushi spot. Comparable to many great chains in SoCal. The sushi tastes better than it looks. Large cuts of fish per sushi. Great for party of 4 or 2. My friend has a really stomach like a mouse, barely ate anything but said it was still worth it - I basically ordered everything and ate 4x whats on my picture, and then went to the gym and PR'ed. I recommend: Salmon, Tuna, Yellowtail, Eel, and anything else with some marinade.

My one round of food and I was there for 45 mins. No one came to help me.

I am new to Pasadena and been wanting to find a local AYCR Sushi. I have been to a few others in Pasadena. Anyways, I finally tried it. It was my birthday dinner and I spontaneously went but found the experience underwhelming and not worth the price. One thing to mention is that I am on a diabetic diet and I should have checked but there wasn't many options. Mainly no sashimi. There's the carpaccio but there's too much such. I was excited for the Salmon collar but they were out. Anyways I only got 1 order in. I was ignored and had to ask for things over and over. There was a large table near me and they got a lot of attention and the table next to me two woman sat downs and they got a lot of attention. The sushi was decent but I'm not supposed to have white rice. I actually was going to do a second around but was ignored so I decided to just go.

Went on a Tuesday afternoon and left a bit disappointed. I came in for the premium option, but they didn't have the omakase + premium AYCE available. Ended up going with the AYCE lunch special, which was overall just okay. Flavor-wise, the garlic edamame and shishito peppers were probably my favorites. The fish-to-rice ratio on the sushi was great, but the rice itself was inconsistent--some pieces were undercooked while others were overcooked. The fish wasn't the freshest, though still decent quality. The restaurant was clean and the service was great. I may return in the future and hope to try the premium menu next time.

We came here on a late night just before closing for happy hour as they didn't offer AYCE close to closing. We were delighted by the happy hour portions. We ordered a bento box, then from the happy hour menu ordered a Sumo Roll and Sensual Pleasure Roll, and salmon collar with sea salt. The rolls were huge. Fish was fresh. Salmon collar was very good. The seared rendered fatty salmon meat was juicy. You can squeeze the included lemon wedge on top and dip into the sauce. Bento box was about $20 but came with decent portions. Water tasted like filtered water, which is good. Excellent service. Clean and upscale restaurant with good pricing. Easy to find parking in parking lot. Highly recommend!

So glad to have found a different ayce sushi spot in Pasadena, aside from aikan! The restaurant is a bit hidden but the interior is modern, bright, and clean! Definitely less chaotic and more spacious than aikan. Their sushi portions are much bigger and you can definitely taste the quality of the fish. I was already done after the first round! Their hot green tea was also really good. We went during happy hour and my husband got draft beer, which he enjoyed. The staff is mostly friendly and attentive. I'm not sure if it was just the day, but it didn't feel kid friendly. I had to ask for a plate for my son and also ask for crayons/coloring paper. I'm really excited to have another sushi spot to add to my list!

Came here on a Monday with my boyfriend for lunch. Staff was friendly and did not have to wait long for the wait time. This place is easily one of my top 5 AYCE sushi spots in the SGV. The fish-to-rice ratio is on point, which is a big deal for me--generous cuts of fish without being overloaded on rice. Pricing is very reasonable for AYCE, especially considering the quality and consistency. Everything came out fresh, and service was efficient throughout the meal. Overall, great value, great sushi, and a spot I'll definitely be coming back to. Highly recommend if you're looking for solid AYCE sushi in the SGV.

It's soooo good I'd recommend it really I'd say the sashimi and salmon and the tuna was soooo good and tasty

Had no idea this place existed here! It's been years since I've come to this plaza - so I didn't know this had replaced Kabuki. For AYCE sushi this was place was delicious. I was expecting smaller pieces of fish and bigger portions of rice for the nigiri, but was pleasantly surprised by the size of fish they gave. Service was friendly and fast. We were initially sat at a wobbly table, but they accommodated us and let us move to another seat. I'm looking forward to coming back here

The nigiri offered for $40 all you can eat was a great selection
    Pauline G.

Wow, I'm impressed. I've only been once but will absolutely be back. Firstly asking for extra ginger and wasabi was no issue, generous second portion and a kind affect- very friendly service. Great selection of nigiri including amazingly soft and lightly seared squid, delightfully fishy mackerel (you can't get mackerel everywhere) and the seared garlic tuna were among my favorites.

i visited Tomikawa for the first time on 10/21/2025, with a party of two, at 5:30PM. It was pretty empty at that time; however, we had a great time. They have a good happy hour (and also a reverse happy hour). We ordered before the 6pm cut off. They have various drinks, a lot of appetizers and a lot of rolls and specialty rolls. I had the Lion King Roll, as well as a traditional California Roll. We also shared the Garlic Edamame. Everything was delicious. Our server was friendly and efficient. We probably also overstayed our welcome, and stayed about an hour after we finished; however, it was no problem to them. I would definitely return again in the future.

I have yet to try there sushi, I've heard it's good. Lately I had a bento box and let me say they give a good portion of delicious food. I had there salmon bento box. We also ordered the sticky spicy tuna appetizer. I love their specials. I will definitely come here for lunch soon to try out their sushi .

Did the ayce dinner for 2 and found everything to be pretty fresh! It all came out pretty quickly and I felt like everything was done perfectly. The fish was super fresh. The rice taste and consistency was on point. Rolls were as expected, good quality. It was before the dinner rush, so it was easy to flag down a server. They were nice and helpful. Probably my go-to ayce sushi place right now! I also like that they don't have limits on how many different items you can order in a round.

I'm always interested in quality sushi joints that aren't so expensive you can't take a child and stayed alert for a chance to visit. I went with my mom for a quick Monday lunch before she dropped me off for vision correction surgery (which makes Akinori one of the last places I wore glasses). We only had about forty-five minutes, and this was just enough time for a light meal at the sushi bar. The restaurant was small and casual, and we opted to sit at the counter. There were a few other customers, and service was friendly and timely, but not fast. The chefs were skillful and deliberate, and they made delicious sushi. We started with snow crab sunomono, a nice light appetizer of vinegary cucumber and seaweed with a few meaty hunks of sweet crab. Then we got some nigiri: red snapper, black snapper, and tuna sets, which came with akami, toro takuan, ootoro, maguro zuke, and seared ootoro. Every piece was fantastic, the fish fresh, the nigiri delicatelly formed. Finally, I couldn't resist the maximalist Akinori roll, with spicy shrimp and langostino rolled with rice in soy paper, possibly tempura fried, then topped with spicy tuna, eel sauce, spicy mayo, chives, and tobiko. I love an over-the-top spicy-tuna-centric roll, and this one was deeply satisfying. Akinori also does ramen and teriyaki and offers a bunch of reasonable lunch specials. You can eat here pretty cheap, or spend as much as you desire on good quality nigiri. I live almost 20 miles from Pasadena, but I hope to visit this place again.

The highlight here is definitely the quality of the Wagyu. The experience leans more toward a curated meat tasting, with beautifully presented, juicy cuts that are satisfying without being overwhelming. Even with two 16-year-old boys at the table, everyone left full -- which says a lot. That said, I took one star off because the setup feels more like a traditional restaurant than a true omakase experience. Since you're seated at tables, there's a bit of passing plates and bowls back and forth with the server throughout the meal, which slightly interrupts the flow and intimacy you might expect from a classic omakase. If you're looking for a sashimi-focused experience, this isn't that -- it's much more Wagyu-forward. Service was a highlight. Jamie was attentive, warm, and made the experience feel smooth and well-paced. Overall, if you go in expecting a high-quality Wagyu tasting rather than a traditional omakase, this place really delivers. A great Pasadena spot when you want something a little more polished and indulgent.

I later found a small post holding up a chromebook outside of the restaurant with a paper with very small print explaining waitlist rules. It would be a lot better if the restaurant made a larger print sign that just says, "Sign In Here," and then have your small print letter to the customers about the rules. We put our name down at 12:30pm, it gave an estimated seat time of ~1pm. But because of the terrible service and mismanagement of the waiting list, we didn't get seated until 1:30pm. They seated 4 parties of 2-3 before our party of 4 when the open tables were side by side. On top of that, after we got seated, they still gave water and took the other tables orders that were seated after us before they came to us. Food took another 20 minutes to come out. I asked for the bill three times, but it didn't come until the other tables that were seated after us left and it was just empty tables next to us. In terms of the food, it was fine and the tempura was cooked well but I do not need to eat their tempura to be treated this poorly.

They keep your water filled, and they're quick to refill wasabi and ginger without you even having to ask. It's bar seating only, which can be a little tricky for a shorty like me to hop up and down from, but the food and service make it worth it. There are no reservations, just walk‑in, but the service is fast and I've never had to wait. Plus, they offer free parking validation for 2 hours, which is a huge bonus. Always reliable, always delicious -- Kazunori never disappoints!

They have multiple locations across the Southern California area including this one near Old Town Pasadena. They do not reservations and you wait in line until there are open seats for your party. We came at around 6pm on a Friday evening and were seated immediately for a party of two. When we left at around 7pm there was a long line waiting so I recommend coming earlier. I recommend coming with a smaller party. They have different presets of hand rolls by count (3 to 6) where 6 is the most popular. The chef hands each roll to you individually and you're expected to eat it immediately to ensure the seaweed is crisp and the rice is warm. I got the 6-hand roll set ($29) which included toro, yellowtail, salmon, bay scallop, crab, and lobster. My favorites were the salmon, bay scallop, and crab. I also got the eel hand roll ($5.75) which was also good. If you want to be surprised, there's The Nozie which is their omakase style 6 hand roll set.

It's a small restaurant with a sushi counter to see the chefs at work. We ordered a bunch of things to try and came away really impressed with the food and service. The kids ordered their usual rolls (though the California roll was with real crab). I really enjoyed the chicken wing skewers, hamachi kama, and sea bass. They have several different chirashi options (by price) and I got the middle one ($50). The fish was super fresh and the rice was excellent. Very happy to have this place in downtown Sierra Madre. It reminds me a lot of Sushi Maruyama in San Mateo, one of our favorite spots.

The food is extremely high quality and everything is fresh, delicious and beautifully presented. The service is impeccable, very friendly and super attentive. I started with some Miso Soup! Hot and tasty! Lots of tender Tofu and earthy Seaweed in a flavorful broth. Yumm! Then it was Unagi time! My absolute favorite! And this was some of the best Eel I have ever had. Fantastic! The finisher was an amazing Eel and Avocado Roll.....OMG! To die for!! This is the Japanese/Sushi spot if you love quality and such an incredible experience.
