TLDR, fish not as fresh, huge rice portion for nigiri and staffs are extremely slow. I have gone here a few times. Most of the time they are good. But this last time I went for lunch, the experience was not as good. The staffs was extremely slow to come and take the order. So I had the all you can eat full meal and not the lunch specials, that special covers rolls only with lots of Rice. I usually just order the carpaccio and nigiri. The RAW fish used in the carpaccio was not fresh, there were some slight fishy smell that is noticeable in the salmon. This is the same with the Salmon nigiri. The other fish were ok, but issue that I have with the nigiri this time around is that the rice to fish ratio. Today they decided to increase the rice portion compared to the fish. I was disappointment to say the least. The overall feel of the restaurant is the same and clean which is good. But this past visit was a huge downgrade for me. read more

Came here for lunch with two of my buddies right when they opened at 11:30am on a Tuesday. Parking is easy since it's a shared lot with Panera Bread, and there was plenty of space. At first, service was solid. Jazz was our server and since it wasn't busy yet, she was attentive and checked in on us. But about 30 minutes in, the restaurant filled up fast, and it looked like there were only about 3 servers for the whole place. After that, service really slowed down--we had to flag people down for water refills and even stood near the front just to pay our bill. Now for the food. Overall, the fish tasted fresh, but the tuna was surprisingly lacking flavor. Our favorites were the salmon nigiri and the salmon carpaccio--both were really good. The spicy tuna crispy rice was a bit of a letdown since the rice was harder than expected. On the other hand, the appetizers were a highlight. The jalapeño poppers and baked green mussels were solid, and the garlic chili edamame was drenched in a really flavorful sauce. The agadashi tofu was a pleasant surprise--crispy on the outside, soft inside, and the sauce had a nice balance of sweet, salty, and tangy. We also enjoyed the shrimp and vegetable tempura. The unagi was well-prepared too, especially since they did a good job cleaning it--no annoying bones. Skip the bay scallop and tuna nigiri. The ambiance is modern, and the noise level is moderate, so it's easy to have a normal conversation. One note for management: Jazz started off great but clearly got overwhelmed once it got busy. The whole staff seemed stretched thin, and you could see other tables getting impatient too. With better staffing, this could easily be a 5-star experience. Supporting your team more would make a big difference. Parking is free and ample. I'd be open to giving Tomikawa another try once service improves. read more

We ordered a bento box, then from the happy hour menu ordered a Sumo Roll and Sensual Pleasure Roll, and salmon collar with sea salt. The rolls were huge. Fish was fresh. Salmon collar was very good. The seared rendered fatty salmon meat was juicy. You can squeeze the included lemon wedge on top and dip into the sauce. Bento box was about $20 but came with decent portions. So glad to have found a different ayce sushi spot in Pasadena, aside from aikan! The restaurant is a bit hidden but the interior is modern, bright, and clean! Definitely less chaotic and more spacious than aikan. Their sushi portions are much bigger and you can definitely taste the quality of the fish. I was already done after the first round! Their hot green tea was also really good. We went during happy hour and my husband got draft beer, which he enjoyed. The staff is mostly friendly and attentive. I'm not sure if it was just the day, but it didn't feel kid friendly. I had to ask for a plate for my son and also ask for crayons/coloring paper. Had no idea this place existed here! It's been years since I've come to this plaza - so I didn't know this had replaced Kabuki. For AYCE sushi this was place was delicious. i visited Tomikawa for the first time on 10/21/2025, with a party of two, at 5:30PM. It was pretty empty at that time; however, we had a great time. They have a good happy hour (and also a reverse happy hour). We ordered before the 6pm cut off. They have various drinks, a lot of appetizers and a lot of rolls and specialty rolls. I had the Lion King Roll, as well as a traditional California Roll. We also shared the Garlic Edamame. Everything was delicious. Our server was friendly and efficient. Did the ayce dinner for 2 and found everything to be pretty fresh! It all came out pretty quickly and I felt like everything was done perfectly. The fish was super fresh. Probably the best value/quality/portion ratio I have ever seen for AYCE Sushi. I am an avid AYCE sushi eater and have gone to dozens of such places across the U.S. as I travel for work. This one impressed me so much because of the value and quality. The portions, the rice to fish ratio, the presentation, the variety - all excellent even before considering the unbelievable deal that they have for AYCE. Was looking for a AYCE sushi spot and found this place on Yelp. We came around 5:40 and it was no wait but around 6:15 it got packed. What I liked is the AYCE options in too of the sushi roll. So we tried a lot. Everything was delicious. The fish was fresh and perfect temp, cool enough but not ice cold and not warm. We got the rainbow roll, Jeffery roll, red dragon roll, Vegas roll salmon carpaccio, tuna garlic carpaccio, karage, seaweed salad, spicy tuna crispy rice, and stuffed jalapeño peppers. We made a reservation earlier in the day. There's no regular or premium set as they're only doing premium now. Everything was good. Food/Drinks: My wife and I came here with our toddler, and we ordered a few rolls mentioned above with a chicken teriyaki kids meal. What I enjoyed about the rolls is the fish pieces are decent in size. My favorite was the tempura california roll. This roll has a tempura piece of nori that was honestly tasty. I had mixed feelings about it, but it had a distinct seaweed taste. I also tried some of the chicken teriyaki. The portion on the kid's menu was more than I expected. The chicken was grilled with a bit of char, but not over cooked. The teriyaki sauce was not too sweet. We ordered a hot sake to round out of order with the happy hour pricing. Service/Ambiance: The restaurant is clean and tidy. The servers were helpful and attentive. Definitely an inviting environment. Overall, I would recommend Tomikawa. Everything tasted good, and the service was great. Our server, Kevin, was attentive, friendly, and helpful. If you are in the area, Tomikawa has one of the best lunch options for AYCE. They offer several options from $23+ and we opted for the premium $35+ once we spotting the carpaccio options on the menu. (There are 4!) Anyhoo, our server sat us and quickly took our beverage order while we looked through the menu. Ordering was seamless; however, one or two of our items didn't make it to the table. (Lucky for us!) We really enjoyed their salmon options (salmon tempura and salmon collar), which were incredible moist. Usually it's a hit or miss, but Tomikawa - it was the chef's kiss. None had that fishy stench to it which is always a plus in our books! The yellowtail was our favorite it was just so buttery!!! We had a handful of side dishes/appetizers. Gyoza and mussels were hot and fresh when it came out. Seaweed and cucumber salads of course taste pretty basic lol fries were fries. Husband and I always love sushi. We wanted to give this place a try and it's an ok for me. My husband gave it a 3.5 star and liked it more than I did. In general it isn't bad. Ambiance was nice & service was great. Although sushi, there wasn't much selections at all compared to many other AYCE ones. I was hoping that maybe less selections but as long as they are super good & fresh, I would be ok with it. Although it was mixed for me. Some were good and then 1 or 2 of the ones i ate did not seem as fresh. Price was not the cheapest around for the variety. If you make it to lunch special deal, then it isn't too bad. Second time walking in and dining here, one of the best places to get rolls, sushi, and any other related cravings. I usually don't leave reviews but their service and food is amazing so how can I not leave one. The best item for me is the dragon or rainbow roll alongside the mussels.
