I have been to this AYCE sushi (A La Cart also available) spot maybe around 10 times now. Always consistent with quality, wait times, and friendliness of staff Sides - plenty of options on the Izakaya menu, my top picks are shishito peppers, Yakiniku Pork, stuffed jalapeno poppers and garlic chilli edamame Sushi - always start with a healthy portion of various sushi pieces, get all of the tuna options, they are a must. If you order a big amount they plate them very decoratively and they make for nice photos Specialty rolls - take your pic, they are all good, but I love the sensual roll + HOT because of the fried tempura flakes. Honestly can't go wrong with anything on this menu Honorable mentions - cucumber salad and tuna salad are great, I add them to the other specialty rolls sometimes. And can't forget the Miso Soup, not on the menu but you can ask for it Wait times - the place is always packed but they'll have you seated max writhing 10-15 minutes, and plenty of parking all around Staff - everyone is friendly and smiling, they have no problem helping you out if your waiter is busy Price - $50 pp after tax and tip, not counting alcohol. You get your moneys worth One of the best in town, and I hope they stick around for a long time

Tomikawa is a very interesting restaurant!! we were here to celebrate a friend's birthday. A number of us got here extremely early, anticipating a lengthy.wait time. And just in case that was going to be the situation, we put our names down for our party of 8. Ok. That was fine. Then, later, the mgr came to tell us that we would not be offered a table because there were reservations that were still incoming and their eating period was guaranteed for 90 min. When we first talked to her about the situation and she said that the restaurant did not take reservations, that's what prompted me to ask the mgr and see if she gave the same answer. She said no. And later, I thought that the group coming in had made a fantastic reservation. However, they do not the same day. If we're looking for a find here, with the larger group, we need to call at least in advance, then they will allow me to make a reservation. One big problem that we did experience is that we had a few of our friends in our group dating with us who have some very serious food, allergies. We expressed this to the person that we gave our orders to. We even explained it to them as we handed them the sushi request list. Several times we found ourselves having to pick ingredients out of the food brought to the table because they were inclusive of something like onions. I don't know about you, but I take food allergies very seriously. They can really be a life or death situation if you're not careful. That makes me very upset. Their food was good, but I can't say that there's anything fabulous. It wasn't over the top at all. Everyone got their money's worth. It was like pulling teeth to get a table and the group that had a reservation, they ended up being a party 4, easily accommodated! They didn't need to make it so difficult for us.

Came by for a weekday lunch right when the place opened, we ordered ayce lunch premium ($34), apparently there's a lunch special ($24) but we didn't know about it and they didn't mention it to us...it was a pink order menu and seemed to have less options so I guess we didn't miss out. We got an order form and a menu, there are plenty of apps and carpaccio options but only one o rice sushi which I actually really liked (sushi fillings wrapped in baked salmon). My favorite dishes were the salmon tempura (we got 2 pretty big pieces) with tartar sauce (we joked how they kept taking our sauce away before we finished the tempura lol), baked mussels, carpaccio, and no rice sushi roll called Jeffrey. Everything else was ok, snow roll was ok, mixed tempura was ok, cheese pork was ok but a bit over fried, nigiri's was good but the rice was a little harder for some reason. It was confusing who was our server, everyone sort of handled all the tables but there was a few times we asked a server and they just overlooked us and so we waited for someone to notice us. I think overall I had a good time with my friend for a quick lunch. We chose this place because the inside looked really nice, it was clean, and the menu pictures were very pretty. I think it was a good try, maybe if we had more people we can try lots of rolls and variety!

This time when I went to Tomikawait was short staffed, so it took a minute to get a seat. I had to wait a long time before a waiter or even a manager approached me. I had to finally get the manager to take my order so that was kind of disappointing, but other than that , I ordered a bento box with chicken and it was very delightful and service was good. Once I did receive a waitress she provided good customer service. I like going here because it's never too full and the place is very nice and modern. It's very cool inside. Nice atmosphere.

Tomikawa is a nice place--spacious, clean, and comfortable. The food was good overall. The rice was soft and fresh, and the sushi was excellent. The fish tasted fresh and had none of that strong fishy smell or flavor that sometimes turns people away from sushi. The service started off fine, but about 15 minutes after we arrived, the restaurant became very busy. Unfortunately, it seemed like the staff was overwhelmed. At one point, I had to walk over to the bar area to get my own soda refill. The biggest issue was the wait time for our second round of sushi. We ended up waiting over 30 minutes, which put a damper on the experience. That said, the quality of the food was good enough that I would return. My recommendation would be to visit during the week and avoid peak weekend hours if possible. You'll likely enjoy the food much more without the long waits.

We come here for every event, birthday, anniversary so practically every month The food is always fresh and tasty, love the presentation and different platters. The service is fast and the servers are very nice It's nicely decorated with comfortable seats and the ambiance is very family friendly. There's no loud music so you can enjoy a nice conversation on the table. The prices are very reasonable too for all you can eat sushi.

Came here on the recommendation of a friend. The service is great, attentive and fast. It has a good amount of seating and its a nice open space. We came for lunch which is a good deal - they have 2 options so we chose the one with the carpaccio option. The rolls are full size which is awesome and you dont see that a lot at ayce. I loved their spicy tuna on crispy rice and the nigiri fish to rice ratio is very generous with the fish. Everything tasted fresh. They also had a handroll option. I wish they had had a yellowtail sashimi option. Sadly we got very full after our first round so i didnt get to try their beef teriyaki. Good amount of parking and no wait at lunchtime during the week.

Walking into an all you can eat spot usually means accepting your fate: questionable fish, mystery sauces, and at least one regret. But Tomikawa actually impressed me? Their selection is legit, and the Spicy Albacore and Seared Garlic Tuna were so good I briefly forgot I was at AYCE place. Pricing was fair, quality was solid, and I didn't leave wondering why I did this to myself. I'll absolutely be back the next time I'm in Pasadena!

Came here for lunch with two of my buddies right when they opened at 11:30am on a Tuesday. Parking is easy since it's a shared lot with Panera Bread, and there was plenty of space. At first, service was solid. Jazz was our server and since it wasn't busy yet, she was attentive and checked in on us. But about 30 minutes in, the restaurant filled up fast, and it looked like there were only about 3 servers for the whole place. After that, service really slowed down--we had to flag people down for water refills and even stood near the front just to pay our bill. Now for the food. Overall, the fish tasted fresh, but the tuna was surprisingly lacking flavor. Our favorites were the salmon nigiri and the salmon carpaccio--both were really good. The spicy tuna crispy rice was a bit of a letdown since the rice was harder than expected. On the other hand, the appetizers were a highlight. The jalapeño poppers and baked green mussels were solid, and the garlic chili edamame was drenched in a really flavorful sauce. The agadashi tofu was a pleasant surprise--crispy on the outside, soft inside, and the sauce had a nice balance of sweet, salty, and tangy. We also enjoyed the shrimp and vegetable tempura. The unagi was well-prepared too, especially since they did a good job cleaning it--no annoying bones. Skip the bay scallop and tuna nigiri. The ambiance is modern, and the noise level is moderate, so it's easy to have a normal conversation. One note for management: Jazz started off great but clearly got overwhelmed once it got busy. The whole staff seemed stretched thin, and you could see other tables getting impatient too. With better staffing, this could easily be a 5-star experience. Supporting your team more would make a big difference. Parking is free and ample. I'd be open to giving Tomikawa another try once service improves.

Parking can be packed in front (short walking distance) but the back can be less but abit of walking. The place is chic and clean cut. Clean and spacious, with one big sushi bar that you can see how the foods prep. The seating area are big , about 2/3 of the restaurant. You can either do all you can eat (AYCE) or à la cart. Service is nice and attentive by all staff. Foods are good and fresh. Well presented. Overall it was a great fulled dinner with great service.

Underrated AYCE sushi spot. Comparable to many great chains in SoCal. The sushi tastes better than it looks. Large cuts of fish per sushi. Great for party of 4 or 2. My friend has a really stomach like a mouse, barely ate anything but said it was still worth it - I basically ordered everything and ate 4x whats on my picture, and then went to the gym and PR'ed. I recommend: Salmon, Tuna, Yellowtail, Eel, and anything else with some marinade.

    Ellen N.

Went on a Tuesday afternoon and left a bit disappointed. I came in for the premium option, but they didn't have the omakase + premium AYCE available. Ended up going with the AYCE lunch special, which was overall just okay. Flavor-wise, the garlic edamame and shishito peppers were probably my favorites. The fish-to-rice ratio on the sushi was great, but the rice itself was inconsistent--some pieces were undercooked while others were overcooked. The fish wasn't the freshest, though still decent quality. The restaurant was clean and the service was great. I may return in the future and hope to try the premium menu next time.

The food is always amazing. The sushi is fresh and flavorful. My favorites are the Seared Garlic Tuna Carpaccio and the Fresh Water Eel. The sides are just as good, especially Spicy Tuna Crispy Rice. The staff is always nice and friendly, and the chefs always have that "locked in" look. I recommend this place for a light lunch, or a dinner with groups with either all you can eat or a la carte.

I'm always interested in quality sushi joints that aren't so expensive you can't take a child and stayed alert for a chance to visit. I went with my mom for a quick Monday lunch before she dropped me off for vision correction surgery (which makes Akinori one of the last places I wore glasses). We only had about forty-five minutes, and this was just enough time for a light meal at the sushi bar. The restaurant was small and casual, and we opted to sit at the counter. There were a few other customers, and service was friendly and timely, but not fast. The chefs were skillful and deliberate, and they made delicious sushi. We started with snow crab sunomono, a nice light appetizer of vinegary cucumber and seaweed with a few meaty hunks of sweet crab. Then we got some nigiri: red snapper, black snapper, and tuna sets, which came with akami, toro takuan, ootoro, maguro zuke, and seared ootoro. Every piece was fantastic, the fish fresh, the nigiri delicatelly formed. Finally, I couldn't resist the maximalist Akinori roll, with spicy shrimp and langostino rolled with rice in soy paper, possibly tempura fried, then topped with spicy tuna, eel sauce, spicy mayo, chives, and tobiko. I love an over-the-top spicy-tuna-centric roll, and this one was deeply satisfying. Akinori also does ramen and teriyaki and offers a bunch of reasonable lunch specials. You can eat here pretty cheap, or spend as much as you desire on good quality nigiri. I live almost 20 miles from Pasadena, but I hope to visit this place again.

The course featured both A5 Japanese and American wagyu and there was a lot of attention to detail throughout the meal. We started with the wagyu tartare and hamachi and both tasted super fresh. The steamed egg with abalone was silky smooth and comforting, while the cod was rich, buttery, and fatty in the best way. I also enjoyed the fresh crudité with the red miso dip as a lighter bite in between courses. The meats were definitely the highlight. The beef tongue was thick and flavorful, and I especially liked the scallion kosho because it balanced out some of the richness. The ribeye, short rib, and chuck were beautifully marbled, and the fresh wasabi was a nice touch that complemented the meat well instead of overpowering it. We also ordered the bone marrow rice on the side and I'm glad we did. It was rich, packed with flavor, and had chunks of meat mixed throughout. Our server also brought out birthday shots poured through the bone marrow which made the experience extra fun and memorable. Finished everything off with mandarin sorbet and vanilla ice cream which was refreshing after such a rich meal. Overall a fun dining experience with quality ingredients and good service.

It's good to know that the amazing quality is consistent between branches, both in terms of food and service. There is a lot more space between tables here, making the Pasadena location feel considerably more intimate than the Hacienda Heights location. I've been wanting to try Tendon Tempura Carlos Jr. for a while since their original location is in Torrance. I'm really glad they opened a Pasadena location because we're lucky to have one here in the 626 now. Parking was easy since there are spots right in front of the restaurant, but they are metered and cost $2 per hour. As soon as we walked in, we were greeted by the staff. Since the weather was nice, we decided to sit out on the patio, which was cool and comfortable. To start, we ordered the fried tempura mozzarella sticks ($5.99), onion kakiage ($2.99), and edamame corn kakiage ($5.99). Everything was delicious, but the mozzarella sticks were the clear favorite. They were fried perfectly with an amazing cheese pull and plenty of cheesy flavor. We decided to share all of our entrees family style. For my son, we ordered the plain hot udon, which was simple and perfect for him. For the rest of us, we ordered the Premium Tempura Bowl ($32.97) and added ikura ($4.98), the cold soba with dipping sauce and tempura ($19.99), and Carlos's Jewel Box ($31.99), which came with chopped salmon, toro, yellowtail, and popcorn shrimp over rice. We also added extra toro for $8. On top of that, we ordered a side of five slices of chu-toro for $15.49, which honestly felt like a great deal. The Premium Tempura Bowl was definitely the star of the meal. Every piece of tempura was light, crispy, and fried perfectly without feeling greasy. The fried tempura egg was absolutely chef's kiss, especially once the yolk mixed into the rice. The tempura dipping sauce was also excellent and brought everything together. The Carlos's Jewel Box was another standout. The fish tasted fresh, and the rice with their house sauce paired perfectly with everything. The added toro made it even better. The cold soba was well prepared, but it just wasn't our cup of tea. That's more of a personal preference than anything because the quality was still there. The restaurant has a modern look while still feeling like a cozy mom-and-pop shop. I really liked the decor and the welcoming atmosphere. Since we were the only table sitting outside, I can't really comment on the noise level inside, but the patio was peaceful and relaxing. The service was great. The staff brought out a booster seat for my son and even helped secure it to the patio chair. They also brought us all the condiments, including ginger and pickled vegetables, without us having to ask, which I appreciated. Overall, I would definitely come back. The tempura was some of the best I've had in the 626, and the rice bowls were just as impressive. If you're visiting for the first time, I highly recommend ordering one of the tempura bowls. You really can't go wrong. It's great to see a restaurant that started in Torrance expand to Pasadena because it's a welcome addition to the 626 dining scene.

I was handed one by a staff member, but another came over and ripped it out of my hands and told me that wasn't allowed. As a fellow Asian I get that people from the motherland of the rising sun likes rules. But me looking at the menu to order in 7 minutes before isn't going to kill anyone. I left and came back and got my food. The food is delicious, but that was unnecessary.

You can enter from either the front or back door. When we arrived for dinner on a Saturday evening, it was pretty empty, but by the time we left, it was packed! We ordered the Clay Pot Steamed Rice Combo that comes with any clay pot rice, any clay pot soup, and a drink (herbal jelly or iced lemon tea). We got the Cantonese Cured Meat with Steamed Rice Clay Pot and the Coconut Soup with Silke Chicken. The Cured Meat was tasty, and I like that you get some gai lan with it. The soup wasn't really my taste, but it did taste warm and nourishing. I got the Daily Combo Special which comes with an Omelet Curry Rice, Tonkatsu or Chicken Katsu and an iced lemon tea or soda. It also comes with a side salad. The katsu itself was decent, but the omelet egg is not seasoned at all. It really needs to curry sauce to go with it. Overall, not bad. Probably closer to 3.5 stars?

It also comes with a turtle herbal jelly. Service is slow though because only one lady was working. And for this portion the price of $25 is more expensive than those in this area.

My friend and I came to KazuNori for Saturday lunch right when they opened at 11:30. Only one other group was there at opening, but it gradually got busier over the course of lunch. As is standard for handroll places, seating is all counter seating so that you can watch the chefs make and place each piece in front of you. I don't recommend coming here with more than 2 others, as conversation can be difficult due to the seating arrangement. I went with the 6 hand roll set for $29, which offers toro, yellowtail, salmon, bay scallop, crab, and lobster. Everything was good, and my favorites were the scallop, crab, and lobster. You can ask for less rice in each roll if you aren't super hungry or have a smaller stomach. They make everything easy when it comes to paying the bill by charging an automatic 16% fee, so you don't need to fill in the tip. I think that's fair given that each handroll is personally made for you by the chef.
