For soup I usually get the gingseng soup with silkie chicken which is packed with flavor and nutrients. I have tried both the herbal jelly and iced lemon tea, however my favorite would be tea. You can enter from either the front or back door. When we arrived for dinner on a Saturday evening, it was pretty empty, but by the time we left, it was packed! We ordered the Clay Pot Steamed Rice Combo that comes with any clay pot rice, any clay pot soup, and a drink (herbal jelly or iced lemon tea). We got the Cantonese Cured Meat with Steamed Rice Clay Pot and the Coconut Soup with Silke Chicken. The Cured Meat was tasty, and I like that you get some gai lan with it. The soup wasn't really my taste, but it did taste warm and nourishing. I got the Daily Combo Special which comes with an Omelet Curry Rice, Tonkatsu or Chicken Katsu and an iced lemon tea or soda. It also comes with a side salad. The katsu itself was decent, but the omelet egg is not seasoned at all. It really needs to curry sauce to go with it. Overall, not bad. Came here with a friend one night on a weekday. I ordered the Omurice and chicken katsu curry set which came with a side salad. Note that there's white rice covered under the omurice. While the visual presentation was appealing, the flavors didn't really meet my expectation. The curry was mild in flavor, the omurice was not seasoned at all (texture was nice though), and the katsu was just okay. This seemed to be a cantonese style interpretation of omurice since there was no indicator of japanese influence other than how the egg was cooked. Finally got a chance to take my parents and family here after trying it out with a friend. Small little family owned cafe that is lively and bustling with laughter and good eats. My dad had a hard time picking with so many choices and ended up getting the chicken curry katsu with egg and the handmade meatball soup to try. I got sausage and pork belly steam rice with silkie chicken herbal soup and upgraded my drink to sea salt foam coffee (love how it's no sweetened). I had their Cantonese Cured Meat Steamed Rice, and this is honestly THE solution to the clay pot rice for one, something that is difficult to find. (Most places, you'll want to have a party of at least 3.) My google map GPS brought me to the backdoor of this authentic cafe that has the loveliest herbal soups and some tasty clay pot rice bowls. The staff is very welcoming and our waiter wanted to make sure we had a good experience so he made sure we would be satisfied with our meals including letting us know that the dessert (herbal jelly turtle with a glaze of honey) that came with the set meal would be pretty bitter and offered to swap it out for a soda, but we decided to stick with the cute jello. I got the cured meats pot that had chinese sausage and small cured pork belly slices. It came with a sauce you can drizzle over the meal for additional flavor. I liked the cured meats but they definitely tasted a little different than the lap cheong I'm used to. The highlight of the meal was definitely the moral mushroom and ginseng chicken soup which my friend ordered. These soups were straight out of my grandmother's kitchen--moral mushroom soup was savory, heart warming and had plenty of mushroom and pork to eat. My friend's ginseng black chicken soup was so refreshing, if I were sick it would feel like the perfect remedy. Powerful and delicious. The herbal jello turtle was really adorable! I would heed his warning when he says it's bitter, but the honey helps and after the first 2 bites, you kind of get used to the bitterness. The one thing that was good was that it wasn't overly priced and the service and food was quick. Me and my partner both got different Japanese curry plates and it was priced around $12-$15 a person. As for the food...it wasn't salty enough and they really didn't put enough sauce to cover the rice. Mine was an omelette curry plate and the curry sauce had maybe two pieces of carrots and two pieces of potatoes only, I thought that there wasn't enough of the veggies and sauce ratio to the omelet rice. Unfortunately, that was not the case for me. I ordered the Cantonese Stewed Beef Brisket with Diakon Rice and Pork Ribs with Black Bean Sauce Steamed Rice along with a side of Roti with the intention of saving half for my dinner. Maybe it was because I ordered takeout but my portions were significantly smaller. For $15 an entree, I got about 1/4 of what I would normally get at a regular HK cafe in the area. The stewed beef brisket tasted fine but there was barely enough stew/sauce to even flavor the rice that came with it. There was a bit more pork ribs but a majority of the meal was just plain white rice. The roti was tiny, soggy, and oily. Been hitting this spot every week and the big thing I wanted to point out is the chicken Katsu curry has officially replaced my heart break for the loss of Curry House. The Katsu here is cooked perfectly crispy and still juicy in the center. The sauce is the most important to me and it tastes just like old school Curry House days along with carrots and potatoes in the stew. The grilled chicken is also something I ordered regularly now and must say their sauce is their own rendition of a teriyaki sauce. They have stolen me from Bmans across the street lol. Love supporting a small, local business - my favorite drink from any boba place anywhere is the Watermelon Jasmine Tea smoothie made here and I can't find anywhere else! I've tried the katsu curry and omelette rice, had a great oyako-don and cold soba noodles. The one thing that everyone raves about that I finally had to try are the Asian-style soufflés - phenom! I've taken them to go and they held up pretty well but definitely the best when eaten fresh in the store. Mostly I love the friendly service and convenience of stopping in on my way to the post office or nail salon.
