We were in the area and craving sushi, so we looked this place up and saw it had a lot of great reviews. We decided to give it a try, and we're really glad we did. It did not disappoint. Staff were very friendly and attentive and took good care of us. Big sushi bar wide open with the cooks all friendly and smiling. The fish was extremely fresh -- nothing smelled fishy at all -- and everything we ordered was delicious. Portions were generous, prices were reasonable, and we left very happy and satisfied.

A highly regarded sushi spot in Old Town that offers really good sushi and more. The vibe is casual and the presentation is pretty good depending on what you order. I had a couple of à la carte items and the Chirashi bowl to start off with. The cuts were really good and I could taste the care put into it. It's a good spot for sushi but when they look at you like you can't afford it and keep telling you the price of each item and trying to question you if you're sure you want to order the item? I definitely have a problem with that. I didn't get the memo that you had to dress a certain way and look a certain way to get decent service. Everyone around me seemed to be normal like me, so I really didn't appreciate or understand why this was happening to me. So not freaking cool man. That's probably my only gripe with this place besides the parking, LoL. Our last item of the awkward evening was the Chawanmushi which was so good but I was wanting a little more bang for my buck if you know what I mean. Are the Tariffs still in effect? And that's my take on it, Peace.

We were here last night, and honestly the host experience was pretty frustrating. There were about 4-5 tables open, but we were still made to wait outside in the cold. The host just walked around looking busy instead of seating us, which didn't make much sense. That said, the food was good. We ordered Chef No. 1 and Chef No. 2 rolls -- both were great, but Chef No. 1 was my favorite. The salmon sashimi was also our favorite dish overall, very fresh and tasty. The interior is nice and clean, which we appreciated. Food was solid, but the hosting situation really needs improvement.

What a great restaurant. Impeccable service, friendly, and great sushi in an area where there are a lot of amazing Sushi restaurants. Sit at the sushi bar and get Omakase like I did. You don't be disappointed. Can't wait to come back!

As good as it gets when you about to drop some money on sushi. Clean quality seafood, and amazing service. Love the restaurant vibe the moment you walk in. Greetings from the host, the chefs all acknowledge your presence, and the aura you get just by sitting at your table speaks for itself. Always get the lemon roll! One of my favorite. I mean everything is spot on. The fresh crab hand roll. Truffle halibut, one of a kind. Chu-toro for the win! Super fatty and subtle. The yellowtail and yellowtail belly is my utmost favorite cut when it comes to having sushi. Fresh flavor and Enya delivers the quality. Also assorted sashimi is amazing. They don't skimp! Just remember you're going to pay for this quality. They do things elegantly here. You receive a story with each bite. When I say top tier this is it. Love everything about Sushi Enya. Always remember top off my food with some sake and beer x2 cause you know sushi ain't sushi without some shots and palate cleansers (21 and over that is) Enjoy!

Wow! How refreshing to see a truly unique menu with creative options for everyone. As a vegetarian, my only choice at many Japanese restaurants is between a cucumber roll and an avocado roll. I got the Vegan Green Man specialty roll. However, I had a hard time deciding as they also offer asparagus truffle oil, sweet corn tempura and Japanese eggplant sushi rolls - flavors I have not seen on any other menu. My husband got the lemon roll and cherry blossom roll. HUGE! Everything beautifully plated in generous portions. Our waiter was fantastic. He took it upon himself to remedy our wobbly table even though it wasn't bothering us. He discussed the vegetarian rolls with me including which he personally enjoyed. The restaurant is very clean and it has a nice atmosphere. I can't wait to go back. Best Japanese I have eaten in a long time.

The best omakase! I went yesterday and the place did not disappoint. The chef made the most delicious dishes, but the best part was the fenomenal service. It was an amazing experience. The place is clean, quiet and their seasonal sake was soooo tasty. I will be back!!

Absolutely amazing experience at Sushi Enya. The fish was incredibly fresh, beautifully prepared, and full of flavor. Every dish was thoughtfully presented and tasted just as good as it looked. The service was attentive and friendly without being overbearing, and the ambience was warm, cozy, and authentic. Easily one of the best sushi spots in Pasadena can't wait to come back!

My first time here at sushi enya and it definitely wont be my last. Everything was great, our server James was amazing and very helpful. Highly recommend the Baked Salmon Sushi, delicious with a nice cold sapporo beer.

Ask the Community - Sushi Enya - Pasadena

    How much is omakase?

$180 pp for basic and $250 pp for deluxe. See my review for further information

    Is it Omakase only?

No, it is not only Omakase.

    Do you open for lunch?

    Yes

Is the Pasadena location less busy than the downtown location for a large group of 6?

This Pasadena location is definitely more chill than the downtown location. But with bigger parties we arrive at 5:30 when they open to make things easier :)

    How to change omakase reservation?

Call and speak with the host/ess. You need verbal confirmation of the change.

Since there are no reservations, how long is the wait time to get seated?

Good question! We usually show up 15 minutes before they open and get seated right away as they open their doors. Going around 7pm, may mean an hour wait or more...

How much is omakase dinner pp?

$225, but you can find it on their web page

    Do they have unagi bowls?

    Sorry I can't remember.

Do they have AYCE option, if so how much?

    No, they do not.

    Do they take reservations?

    Nope

Osawa is 100% worth the hype, and if you haven't heard of it, let me hype it up for you…read more The place is small so be prepared to wait if you're trying to go on a Thursday-Saturday, or show up when they open for lunch or dinner. Ambiance is super cute, love the little flags over the sushi/shabu bar and the art on the walls adds to the Japanese restaurant feel. The aroma when you walk in is mouthwatering (I was really hungry) but it doesn't smell fishy like some sushi places can. Staff is unbelievably great, super friendly and helpful if you have any questions about the menu or want recommendations. Don't be afraid to ask what the MP is on omakase, they totally work with what you're looking to spend or based on how many pieces of sushi you want to eat. Now for the real reason to visit Osawa: the food is absolutely amazing!!! Fresh, tasty, perfectly portioned. From the shishito peppers appetizer to the sushi, sashimi, hand rolls, and shabu; I cannot recommend this place enough! They have plenty of sake options to pair with your meal as well as beer or specialty cocktails if that's your preference. They offer to explain your order when it arrives which is great for those newer to sushi or just trying something different. Seriously, some of those fish practically melt in your mouth. I personally haven't ordered any rolls yet but they absolutely look delicious. If you're looking for a good sushi date spot, this. is. it. It's also good for a small group, maybe up to five or so before you feel cramped. Shabu is seated at the bar and their meats and veggie are delicious and fresh, enhanced by the tasty broth. It's even good on a summer day because they have solid air conditioning. Cannot say enough good things about Osawa. Go try it for yourself. :)

After more than a year away, I decided to give Osawa another try on May 8, 2026. Unfortunately, the experience confirmed why I had stopped coming. Around 9:02 p.m., my waiter came by to ask for last orders. I ordered chicken karaage. This is a simple dish that usually comes out in about 4 to 5 minutes. For whatever reason, the order did not arrive until around 9:26 p.m. -- almost 25 minutes later. It seemed obvious that the order had been forgotten. When the karaage finally arrived, it looked hastily sauced. Several parts of the chicken were unsauced, which is not how the dish was normally served in the past. Given the delay and the apparent mishandling, I did not touch the dish. A Japanese male manager wearing glasses then came over. He recognized me, and I explained that I had not been back for more than a year because of the food poisoning incident from fish in 2025. Instead of responding seriously, the manager smiled and giggled slightly, then launched into an irrelevant conversation about his connections in the Japanese food industry in Old Town Pasadena. When he asked why I had not touched the chicken, I explained the almost 30-minute delay and the problems with the dish. Rather than comping the item or offering a real apology, the manager asked whether I still wanted to eat it or would prefer to cancel it. He then ended the conversation by suggesting that I come in during weekday lunch for the $18 lunch specials. That response was bizarre and tone deaf. I did not return after a food poisoning incident to hear a sales pitch about lunch specials. I returned as a longtime customer giving Osawa another chance. Osawa's way of doing business has changed a lot. I've seen better customer service at Erewhon.

It was clear that the chef put a lot of thought into each bite. The ones that stood out the most to my group were the salmon sushi with toasted sesame (the nuttiness of the toasted sesame was incredible), unagi (the eel sauce was the best that I've ever had and I've been to Japan!), and the lobster hand roll. I will say that the restaurant has a dark/intimate ambiance since it's lit by the candles at your table. My table ordered 2 trust me's and 1 nozawa trust me. You're served with a plate of edamame and then each fish one by one. They wait for the entire table to finish eating the plate in front of you before going back to the kitchen to let them know when to prepare to following dish. The fish literally feels like it melts in your mouth. You get a chance to chew but then everything else melts in your mouth. The sushi rice they use is magnificent. When the sushi comes out, the rice is so warm and the fish on top is cold and it's honestly an amazing experience in your mouth.

Parking here in Pasadena can be a bit tough but not near Sushigah. Next to it is a huge indoor parking lot where it's only $1 per 2 hours, very much worth it. The menu here is very extensive, ranging from sushi rolls, sushi, ramen, udon, standard sushi apps, bento boxes, etc. Our orders were taken pretty quick, service I'd say was around a 7/10. We were checked on a couple times but seem like the staff weren't fully paying attention as I asked for some extra utensils and my partner asked for the other dishes that our order comes with but they were all forgotten, requiring a 2nd request before receiving our items. Other than that, service was pretty good. It was great that the staff was friendly and quick. -- WHAT WE ORDERED -- Cheese Bulgogi ($25) Rainbow Roll ($18) Mango Cha Cha Roll ($20) Lemon Salmon Roll ($19) Salmon Bento Box ($21) Out of all the rolls, the Mango Cha Cha is the standout. From the pictures posted, it seem to be the most unique roll and the most popular roll to try. Highly recommend trying this as it has a great flavoring balance between the ingredients and the mango on top. MUST TRY!!!! The cheese bulgogi is also pretty underrated. Although a bit on the expensive side, if you like both combined, this is the dish for you. Love the variation of the dish, and it was also cooked to perfection. The bento box is great as well, presented very nicely, and portion is huge I'd say. A great box to eat on the go or at the restaurant. Not too expensive as well.
