Have to admire the lean into the ghost kitchen concept right down to the logo. Fairly extensive menu with lots if different bentos and bowls. The prices are pretty reasonable considering the quality of food ans portion you're getting. The bento come in a pretty cool looking box and comes with real wasabe. The salmon teriyaki comes with a gyoza, a piece of boneless fried chicken and a california roll, very good and a bargain for 18 bucks. The light sushi bento was also good, but there was a pin bone in a piece of sashimi, so that drops you a star. Overall, still a good deal and will order again.
We decided to try CM Ghost Kitchen after seeing a post on the SGV Eats Facebook group. Ordering was easy through their website, which also gives you an estimated pickup time. I went with the Light Sushi Set and added a corn croquette and four pieces of salmon roll since I was getting hungry. My husband ordered the Yakiniku Wagyu Beef Bowl and the egg omelette bowl with ground chicken. The sushi was fresh and flavorful, though the rice portion on each piece was a bit heavy. I really enjoyed the croquette--it was crispy and satisfying. The beef in the Yakiniku bowl was a little on the chewy side, and the omelette bowl was pretty bland in flavor. Overall, we had a decent lunch, but I'd definitely stick to the sushi menu next time. Bonus points for the cute packaging and their adorable ghost-themed branding, it's super kawaii!
First time trying this place, my church ordered catering for a special event. The food was delicious & it came in a cute bento box. We had teriyaki chicken rice, green beans, salmon roll, gyoza, chicken karaage & it even had a tray for the soy sauce, wasabi & ginger. I was pleasantly surprised that their chicken karaage & teriyaki sauce was gluten free!
The wagyu beef was delicious however the portions were extremely small for $20. I don't think i would have gotten the bbq yakiniku Australian wagyu if i knew I'd still be hungry after. My wife was very happy with her chicken teriyaki bowl. Overall it was good however I am just disappointed with the beef bowl size especially since I only found out once I got home with the food.
Food was great, I got the standard chirashi bowl. Next time I will try premium but standard is delicious and definitely filling.
This is my go-to when I need something quick, fresh and flavorful. It's a ghost kitchen, so no seating, but the portions are massive. Easily enough to feed a crew. When you're out there hustling, drop by and grab some food to fuel you through the day.
One of the best sushi and Japanese food take out hidden gems located inside a humble storefront in a small strip mall in Pasadena right off the 210fwy. Sushi is outstanding for a takeout place - think pulling up a chair at a legit sushi bar in Japan but packaged so neatly (Japanese style) like in Japan! All the details covered from the packaging, hand wipe, quality wasabi and shoyu and even the small sauces to add to the sushi (if needed) 1st time I took out I ordered the regular chirashi that was I think the best in Pasadena! Best cuts and super fresh with perfect sushi rice! Put together so well - next time I will try the premium version which I assume would be even more delish! 2nd time I ordered the sushi dinner and it was one of the best I've had -I thought was even better than sugar fish and other mid high competitors. They don't skimp on quality of the fish and rice here even though it's just takeout. This time I tried the chicken teriyaki that was a generous serving and their sauce was perfectl not too sweet or syrupy. Very Japanese! Plus I picked some ala carte sushi which was again excellent! What a hidden gem for this ghost kitchen serving up high quality sushi in the non pretentious take out shop. Japanese Owner is very friendly too! Next time I will try the tonkatsu or curry! Definitely the best spot for high quality take out sushi and other Japanese dishes. Mochiko my cat was spoiled and gets her sashimi treats from the Japanese markets (mitsuwa and Yama seafood). She won't eat sashimi that has been frozen or from a chain or cheap Japanese restaurants or supermarket sushi (Ralphs, wholefoods, etc.). She won't even eat sashimi from Hmart! She is super picky for a cat! But she was going crazy when I gave her a nibble of my tuna! Mochiko approved as fresh quality!

Ordered the beef bento and it definitely hit the spot. The variety includes a gyoza, rolls, vege and karaage. The beef was tender and full of flavor. The rolls (spicy tuna) were very refreshing and a great contrast to the other items, such as the karaage and gyoza, which I would rate as flavorful and juicy. The interior is clean and service is excellent. The shop is in a small strip mall so parking can be a challenge during busy hours.
Had the pleasure of experiencing Chef Maezaki's food and skills when a friend hired him for an in-home birthday experience. All of us were wow-ed and blown away by him and his staff. This isn't your typical in-home sushi chef experience with mostly raw fish and rice. They came to the house 3.5 hours before to prep and cook. Then served up 6 amazing courses with a variety of cooked dishes alongside sushi/sashimi. Most of the courses contained several pieces (e.g. course 1 had 8 items), so we were stuffed by the end. The quality, flavors, dishes were all unique and delicious! Everything was cooked and presented with thought and perfection. He put so much into each dish, and his helpers were awesome as well. It was a full-service meal so we never had to lift a finger with their seamless service.
This is truly a diamond in the ruff and so unassuming! Was searching for Japanese food specifically and just happened to see Chef Maezaki's restaurant near my home. Ordering was easy. Each item has an extensive description. My order included the Premium Sushi Set which was AMAZING! Fish was fresh and the rice is the first I've had, that is remotely close to rice I've had in Japan (which is so good). Portions are a very good size and enough for my husband and I to share. We got double Toro and will definitely order again. Presentation is unique and attractive. The chef included various sauces in little pipettes for the sushi. Each sauce complemented certain sushi, very well matched. One interesting piece of information is the chef's "How to Make Sushi Rice At Home". He is very up to date with a QR code on his recyclable food boxes as well as his business card. The restaurant is very unassuming. I would have never known that it existed in this strip mall. The inside is very clean with an opening to the kitchen where the chef personally greeted me. I will be ordering from Chef Marzaki again. The price you pay is the quality of fish you get!
We ordered some food via door dash. The driver said it was taking forever to get the order so not sure what was going on that evening in the kitchen. We got the: 1. Albacore tuna crispy onion. Fresh and tasty. 2. Light sushi set. Not a fan. The sashimi was too thick for my liking. The edamame too salty. The Nigiri was ok. The Spicy tuna rolls was just ok too- it was actually quite spicy. 3. Egg Omelet bowl with ground chicken- this was actually my favorite. Both the egg and the meat were well seasoned. Very tasty. The egg should have been softer but I think that's what happens when you order take out instead of eating it immediately. I would definitely order the omelet bowl again.

Picked up lunch today since it's on my way home. This is my second take out and it didn't disappoint. I got the light and it was enough to fill me up. It has the same set up and very similar too sugar fish. I was pretty full and it's a good thing I didn't get the standard. The lunch specials look really good too I'll try it next time.

CM Ghost Kitchen by Chef Maezaki is located at 296 North Allen Avenue Suite #1 Pasadena, California 91106. It is located in a small shopping area just below the 134/210 freeway. There are a number of small boutique stores located here. This Japanese restaurant was a great find when I was out walking. I was actually going to pick up some food at another place. I read some of the reviews to get an idea of what to expect and was pleased to find that the food here is very good. This is a takeout only restaurant. They cater and also Chef Maezaki teaches sushi techniques in the surrounding area. I entered the front door and walked to the large counter. I was greeted with a smile and a friendly hello. I asked a number of questions and realized that I must be talking to Chef Maezakl. He showed me the menu. He also showed me specials that they were offering. After taking some time I decided to order the special wagyu beef entree, and a spicy tuna hand roll. I sat down in one of the chairs available and waited. I could smell great aromas from the food being prepared in the kitchen. I was happy when my food arrived about 15 minutes later. I could sense his pride in what he had prepared for me. I enjoyed the complete dinner that was the wagyu beef entree. There was rice, pickled cucumber, California roll sushi, a special piece of fried chicken, and chicken gyoza. It came in a perfectly packed & arranged container, ready to eat. I'm happy to say the taste translated to a great experience in dining. The marinated beef was tender and flavorful. The chicken was moist tender with a crisp exterior. The cucumber salad was bright and refreshing. The fresh sushi was a nice touch. I went back another time to try the cold chicken ramen, a three piece chicken appetizer, and the tiramisu. I was happy with the fresh flavor of the vegetables in the ramen. It was a nice change. All I can say about the tiramisu is that it has an addicting flavor! I can't wait to have it again. It's nice that the parking lot accommodates all the small boutique businesses. There has always been plenty of parking when I was there. This shopping area with its boutique stores is a good find. I look forward to my experience at CM Ghost Kitchen. read more
Average, more of 3.5ish Ordered it via Postmates. Fish quality was decent. Sushi rice was good. For the premium chirashi, I wasn't impressed with the fish selection. Overall hits the spot for sushi fix. The only drawback is it's priced the same as restaurants which would have served two pieces of each fish plus uni and ikura etc. Although I will say I was pleasantly surprised at the tiny squeeze bottle sauces provided and that it tasted homemade (ponzu, yuzu, unagi sauce). May order again if there's a deal. read more
I was craving chirashi bowl and came across CM Ghost Kitchen so I decided to give it a try esp since the pricing, photos, and menu looked promising. I ordered the standard chirashi bowl via a 3P delivery service and that it was just ok. The bed of rice was really tasty, but the fish quality wasn't anything spectacular. Did it fix my chirashi itch? Prob not. My favorite piece was prob the spicy tuna. Nothing else stood out unfortunately. Will it give it another try? Possibly. read more

One of my new favorite sushi spots to open up! Food: great variety of options to choose from whether you're in the mood for a bowl or fresh sushi. Today, I ordered the California roll & chicken teriyaki bowl with spicy miso dressing. The California roll was extremely tasty & fresh, I'd recommend. The chicken teriyaki bowl was also a hit & something I'd definitely order again. I loved how tender the chicken was & the rice was cooked to perfection along with the spicy miso sauce adding the perfect kick of flavor. Overall, great menu options I look forward to trying their other dishes. Service/atmosphere: the service is very friendly here & food doesn't take long to come out. Unfortunately, there wasn't any indoor or outdoor seating but aside from that the restaurant itself is very clean & presentable. This place is very easy to find as it is in a mini plaza with a decent amount of parking. Overall, great experience I'll definitely be back! read more

Skip this place if sushi is your main focus. The rice is clearly machine-molded -- too firm, with Lego-like edges -- and the seasoning tastes off. I also tried the salmon bowl, but the slices still had silver skin. Fish quality is okay, so I don't get the glowing sushi reviews. read more

The main takeaway is - the quality here is excellent. Better than most sushi/sashimi Japanese restaurants. Price is still good too. Parking is easy and free. Chef Maezaki take pride in their presentation of the sushi and it shows. Thank you for such an amazing time and food, wonderful chef and owner! read more

Impressed with the sushi set (I got the standard version but there's also a premium and lite option). As someone who loves sushi but doesn't always have the time or energy to go out to a restaurant, I was thrilled to discover this option, great to bring out to a picnic or for a date. The sushi box came beautifully packaged, with each item neatly arranged. I appreciated the attention to detail and the obvious care that went into preparing and presenting the food. But of course, the real test was in the taste - and I'm happy to report that fish was fresh and high quality, imported from Japan! What's more, it's easy to place an order on Doordash. I highly recommend the sushi set to anyone looking for delicious, high-quality sushi. The quality and care that go into each box are evident. They also offer sushi bowls, and party trays which I'm keeping in mind for my next event. read more

By far, one of the best tasting and freshest sushi I've ever tasted and I've tried many. Chef Maezaki is very experienced the way he prepared the food for us. All the preparation was intentional and presented very well. My partner and I got the Poke Sashimi Salad (with steam rice added) and the light sushi set. The fish did not taste very "fishy" which means it was very fresh. Each slice prepared was buttery soft and not very grainy in texture. All of this was very very good and best of all it was priced very affordable. FYI: This place is just for take out and there is no seating available. However, Pasadena has plenty of spacious and cozy parks nearby to sit and enjoy the outside air. So, make a special day out of Chef Maezaki's place, and enjoy a very tasty treat. read more

Ok, this place lands squarely in the "just ok" category for me. I'm not gonna lie, I had my hopes up. I saw someone write positively about this place on SGV Eats Facebook page, and the Yelp reviews here so far have been pretty good. So, my hopes were up. I'll start with the good. The bag that the food came in was beautiful; really nice thick material, rope handles. The packaging that held the sushi, also stellar. Reminds me of a smaller version of the Sugarfish to-go box. I ordered the "Standard" set of sushi and it came with salmon, tuna and albacore nigiri. Pretty basic, but I like all those fish. The part that was a bit confusing was, there were sashimi slices in the set too, but all of the exact same type of fish. Eating that same three types of fish for the whole meal felt really...repetitive. Not the best experience. The quality of the fish was alright. I'm trying not to say this in a rude way, but if you like Kabuki, you'll probably like this place! Really not bad, will alleviate a sushi craving. But it certainly won't be amazing, at least it wasn't today. One major gripe I had with the sushi set: the wasabi. It came in one of those tiny packets and tasted exactly like nothing. It was near impossible to mix because it wouldn't dissolve. In my opinion, that affected the meal a lot. Better wasabi, better meal. In my experience, wasabi that comes in a packet is never good, not even mediocre. So, if I were them, I'd change the wasabi (easy fix) and it Will definitely improve the customer's experience. read more

Just finished our first order ever from here and we are very happy and with full tummies. As many of the reviews said all the fish is very good, don't let the one bad review deter you from trying this place. The chef himself was packing our order when I came in to pick it up and the quality is great and everything tasted great. The place itself is very humble and straight forward and you'd never think that they serve sushi boxes out if it. We ordered the premium box and the albacore tuna crispy onion to split between my wife and I. Everything was great and we enjoyed it and will definitely order from here again. Also the fact that a small business is supported is an added bonus. read more

This is some of the best takeout sushi I've had. The standard sushi box comes so neatly packaged with an amazing combo of sushi and sashimi. The salmon and spicy tuna were our favorites. The pickled cucumbers are so tasty and a really nice touch. This is quality fish, a generous portion for 1 person (my wife and I got our own boxes) and a great bang for the buck. Saw this place pop up on Ubereats and noticed they took over the old Howlin Rays ghost kitchen location. Similar packaging to SUGARFISH. Ordered a standard and light sushi set. -fish was not high quality. Maybe similar to what you'd get at a supermarket. Color was off and the salmon and tuna was suuuuper lean. -rice was not seasoned well and pretty hard. There was way too much rice compared to the fish. Pretty sure they use a rice shaping machine. The shape was weird and angular. Definitely not hand shaped nigiri. -edamame wasn't salted enough and seemed kinda old and dry. -variety was not good. Why include the same sushi in the sashimi and nigiri? -California roll was just meh. Not that hard to make a good ca roll. Unless they decide to up the quality, this place is a hard pass. I don't see how they can compete with places like SUGARFISH and other local spots. I'd give this place a 2.5/10. read more

I live almost within walking distance from CM Ghost Kitchen but have never tried Chef Maezaki's food until suggested by my AllState agent who is in the same strip mall. Yes, it is a ghost kitchen but it is operated by the chef himself. Chef Maezake couldn't have been more accommodating. I ordered a total of 20 rolls-5 each of 4 types for NYE. He even allowed me to provide platters! While only an expert in my own mind, I do fancy myself a foodie and LOVE, LOVE, LOVE Japanese food. Chef's quality and flavors are excellent. The veggie roll had gobo an shiso leaf. The spicy tuna and yellowtail scallion rolls were so flavorful, they didn't need anything else! I don't typically get to-go but, since I can pick up myself, I will be ordering over and over again! read more

Hands down the best sushi in Pasadena. Great service, quality, and price. I got the Chirashi Bowl, avocado roll, spicy tuna roll, and chicken teriyaki. $54 total for the entire family. What a deal!
