There are a number of small boutique stores located here. This Japanese restaurant was a great find when I was out walking. I was actually going to pick up some food at another place. I read some of the reviews to get an idea of what to expect and was pleased to find that the food here is very good. This is a takeout only restaurant. They cater and also Chef Maezaki teaches sushi techniques in the surrounding area. I entered the front door and walked to the large counter. I was greeted with a smile and a friendly hello. I asked a number of questions and realized that I must be talking to Chef Maezakl. He showed me the menu. He also showed me specials that they were offering. After taking some time I decided to order the special wagyu beef entree, and a spicy tuna hand roll. I sat down in one of the chairs available and waited. I could smell great aromas from the food being prepared in the kitchen. I was happy when my food arrived about 15 minutes later. I could sense his pride in what he had prepared for me. I enjoyed the complete dinner that was the wagyu beef entree. There was rice, pickled cucumber, California roll sushi, a special piece of fried chicken, and chicken gyoza. It came in a perfectly packed & arranged container, ready to eat. I'm happy to say the taste translated to a great experience in dining. The marinated beef was tender and flavorful. The chicken was moist tender with a crisp exterior. The cucumber salad was bright and refreshing. The fresh sushi was a nice touch. I went back another time to try the cold chicken ramen, a three piece chicken appetizer, and the tiramisu. I was happy with the fresh flavor of the vegetables in the ramen. It was a nice change. All I can say about the tiramisu is that it has an addicting flavor! I can't wait to have it again. It's nice that the parking lot accommodates all the small boutique businesses. Overall hits the spot for sushi fix. The only drawback is it's priced the same as restaurants which would have served two pieces of each fish plus uni and ikura etc. Although I will say I was pleasantly surprised at the tiny squeeze bottle sauces provided and that it tasted homemade (ponzu, yuzu, unagi sauce). Have to admire the lean into the ghost kitchen concept right down to the logo. Fairly extensive menu with lots if different bentos and bowls. The prices are pretty reasonable considering the quality of food ans portion you're getting. The bento come in a pretty cool looking box and comes with real wasabe. The salmon teriyaki comes with a gyoza, a piece of boneless fried chicken and a california roll, very good and a bargain for 18 bucks. Had the pleasure of experiencing Chef Maezaki's food and skills when a friend hired him for an in-home birthday experience. All of us were wow-ed and blown away by him and his staff. This isn't your typical in-home sushi chef experience with mostly raw fish and rice. They came to the house 3.5 hours before to prep and cook. Then served up 6 amazing courses with a variety of cooked dishes alongside sushi/sashimi. Most of the courses contained several pieces (e.g. course 1 had 8 items), so we were stuffed by the end. The quality, flavors, dishes were all unique and delicious! Everything was cooked and presented with thought and perfection. He put so much into each dish, and his helpers were awesome as well. Each item has an extensive description. My order included the Premium Sushi Set which was AMAZING! Fish was fresh and the rice is the first I've had, that is remotely close to rice I've had in Japan (which is so good). Portions are a very good size and enough for my husband and I to share. We got double Toro and will definitely order again. Presentation is unique and attractive. The chef included various sauces in little pipettes for the sushi. Each sauce complemented certain sushi, very well matched. One interesting piece of information is the chef's "How to Make Sushi Rice At Home". He is very up to date with a QR code on his recyclable food boxes as well as his business card. The restaurant is very unassuming. I would have never known that it existed in this strip mall. You can tell how much effort Chef Maezaki puts into his craft through his kindness, menu availability, and how the food tastes. The sashimi you order from him is fresh and melts in your mouth. No matter if you are ordering his Chirashi bowls, Tekka bowls, Salmon bowls, or even his california rolls you can taste the difference (I've ordered all of them). I ordered a tuna roll once and accidentally got the sashimi, but Chef Maezaki quickly made up for it with a new order while letting me keep the order he made. Even if you try to order but can't find what you want, that just means that he values quality and doesn't want to have more orders at the risk of sacrificing the taste. Ok, this place lands squarely in the "just ok" category for me. I'm not gonna lie, I had my hopes up. I saw someone write positively about this place on SGV Eats Facebook page, and the Yelp reviews here so far have been pretty good. So, my hopes were up. I'll start with the good. The bag that the food came in was beautiful; really nice thick material, rope handles. The packaging that held the sushi, also stellar. Reminds me of a smaller version of the Sugarfish to-go box. I ordered the "Standard" set of sushi and it came with salmon, tuna and albacore nigiri. Pretty basic, but I like all those fish. The part that was a bit confusing was, there were sashimi slices in the set too, but all of the exact same type of fish. Eating that same three types of fish for the whole meal felt really...repetitive. Not the best experience. The quality of the fish was alright. I'm trying not to say this in a rude way, but if you like Kabuki, you'll probably like this place! Really not bad, will alleviate a sushi craving. But it certainly won't be amazing, at least it wasn't today. One major gripe I had with the sushi set: the wasabi. It came in one of those tiny packets and tasted exactly like nothing. It was near impossible to mix because it wouldn't dissolve. In my opinion, that affected the meal a lot. Better wasabi, better meal. Ordered a standard and light sushi set. -fish was not high quality. Maybe similar to what you'd get at a supermarket. Color was off and the salmon and tuna was suuuuper lean. -rice was not seasoned well and pretty hard. There was way too much rice compared to the fish. Pretty sure they use a rice shaping machine. The shape was weird and angular. Definitely not hand shaped nigiri. -edamame wasn't salted enough and seemed kinda old and dry. -variety was not good. Why include the same sushi in the sashimi and nigiri? -California roll was just meh. Not that hard to make a good ca roll. Unless they decide to up the quality, this place is a hard pass. It's Valentines Day and we definitely did not want to go out to a restaurant but still wanted a nice meal. This was my first time at CM Ghost Kitchen and the overall experience was very positive. We ordered on the website for pickup and we got a confirmation our order would be ready in 30 mins. Arrived at the time stated but our order was not ready. I understand that it's a very busy day for restaurants so I wasn't very bothered at all because the person helping me at the counter made sure to bring my order to attention to the kitchen and they immediately started working on putting my 2 sushi sets together for me. I could tell they were slammed, there were many orders in queue and all 3 staff members were working as fast as they could. They told walk in customers that orders are backed up and it would be a wait time so I do appreciate their transparency! 20 minutes after I arrived, my order was ready and we were able to enjoy a nice quiet dinner at home.
