I've been hoping to stop by for awhile now and I'm happy I did so yesterday... Arrived somewhere around noon, there was no wait, immediately seated, and ordered within 5-10 minutes. Ordered the lunch special sushi box, it was fresh and well portioned. Service was good and the overall restaurant ambiance was quiet, in a good way. I would return next time I'm in the area.

Yummmmmm! They have an amazing selection of tapas and sushi. Everything is so fresh and delicious! The service is friendly and prompt. You can make reservations online as well. There is ample parking in their lot or on the street. What a wonderful neighborhood gem!

One of my go to spots for Sushi is Oba. The sushi is always fresh, and the service is fantastic. Plus, it's one of the few sushi places where you can get a cocktail or a glass of bubbly. My friends were in town and wanted sushi, so I brought them here. We ordered an assortment of sushi and a few dishes. It was a delightful feast. Our bellies were full and we left feeling happy and satisfied.

I came here years ago, and to be honest, I don't remember much from that visit. But the wife and I were in the area recently around dinner time and figured why not give it another shot? We were one of the first ones in right when they opened, so we got seated right away. The menu was pretty extensive, but everything sounded amazing. We leaned into the 'Tapas' part of the name and ordered a bunch of small plates, along with a couple orders of sushi. EVERYTHING and i mean EVERYTHING was delicious. I was genuinely surprised at how good it all was. So much so, we came back the following week to try the dishes we didn't get to the first time. Oba is officially in our night-out rotation now, and I'm really glad we gave it another chance (even if it took a few years)!

Walked in during lunch menu time. The place was neither slow nor busy. I pretty much was able to sit wherever I wanted. The setting is cute enough inside. I didn't notice any outside seating. Service was fast and very friendly. I had a Kirin on draft and the teriyaki beef with spicy tuna roll combo from the lunch menu. It came with miso soup, rice and edamame. That beer was ICE COLD and sooooo good! The food was not hot. Rather, it was kinda lukewarm. The beef was tender. However, it kinda reminded me of frozen and microwaved beef. Nonetheless, I was hungry and enjoyed the meal overall. The spicy roll was delicious. As was the miso soup. The portion was pretty average but that was PERFECT for a mid-day meal. I wanted to love this place. However, I can definitively say that I like it and will give it a try for dinner at a later date.

Each time I make my way out to Pasadena, my boyfriend proposes we try Oba and I'm so glad we finally did! Upon entering, the staff greeted us and we were quickly seated. This homestyle restaurant was beautifully decorated. Our servers were friendly and frequently topped off our waters. We ordered the Thai dumplings and (not pictured) a cucumber salad. The dumplings were savory while the salad was crisp and fresh. We shared the (not pictured) crab fried rice, which included our choice of a side salad or soup. For our main course, we ordered the salmon sashimi as well as the yellowtail belly, red snapper, and bluefin tuna sushi. The yellowtail belly was melt-in-your-mouth good. The snapper was topped with chili powder and yuzu. And per the chef's recommendation, the bluefin tuna was rubbed with garlic, wasabi, and soy sauce. I'm so glad we found our new sushi spot!

More of a 3.5 rating overall. My husband and I have been curious to try Oba Sushi & Thai Tapas but never got around to it so I came with a gf instead for our monthly dinner - I'm not sure if they have a happy hour, but they do have a pretty extensive drink menu that I would like to try in the future (if I get to). It does seem like Oba is frequented by a lot of regulars, which does give it a homey feel. My gf and I ordered everything to share since we were curious about both their sushi and Thai offerings: -Thom Yum Wings, while the wings themselves were good I probably wouldn't order these again. The flavor was a bit sour and sweet, I would have wanted more salty. Maybe I'll get their Oba Wings next time. -Crispy Pork Yum, a light lemon-ey salad with crispy pork bits and Thai flavoring. I actually really liked this dish. -Salmon Sushi, salmon was fresh and decent, but each order only comes with 2 pcs so I think their sushi actually adds up quickly price-wise...this is partially why I knocked off a half star is because I feel like there's other places with better price point or bang for your buck when it comes to sushi. -Donburi with Chicken Cutlet (other choice is Chicken or Beef), comes with miso soup and salad. They were kind enough to give my gf and I a second bowl of miso soup for free and told us it was refillable! Though, one bowl for each of us was plenty. I thought the donburi was filling and decent! Service was fair, and the servers were great. Always quick to check if we needed refills on our hot water, etc. They do close early on the weekdays, so it was a little bit of a bummer since my gf and I were chit-chatting and catching up. Parking is shared with other stores & restaurant in the same plaza. Restrooms were clean.

When I gave five stars, no need to say much, it just means that I will come back and you should come and try, lol.

When you can't decide between Thai or Japanese is where Oba Sushi Thai Tapas comes in. I've always passed by the sign on the way to the 110, but never fully explored until last night. Here's what we tried: - Eggplant Delight: Basil eggplant stir-fry is my favorite. Simple, piping hot and well-flavored without being overly salty. - Assorted Sushi: Yellowtail was my favorite by far due to its smooth texture. Jumbo scallop was fresh and well-seasoned. Unagi was perfectly charbroiled albeit a bit smaller than other places. There is an assorted 8 pc selection under "Entrees" if you know where to look. We will try that next time. - Thom Yum Wings: Piping hot and served with crispy kale. I loved the tangy, sweet and sticky, pungent sauce on top of the drumstick only wings. These were cut lollipop style. Service was good as they kept checking on everything. Overall, we could have done without the wings but we were so hungry!

Had this place for the first time recently after driving by it for years and I am so mad at myself for not trying to sooner. The food was so great and the service was amazing! The severs, managers, chefs, and owners greeted every single customer. The atmosphere was top tier! I enjoyed everything we ordered, the Don buri was huge! Definitely enough to share. The tempura was so crispy and light it was perfect. I'm definitely coming back to try their lunch menu.

How can I make a reservation?

    They take reservations by phone.

    When/what time is happy hour?

Does Oba make any sushi rolls without rice?

They will accommodate your needs if you ask them... It might add a bit of cost but I don't know. But it is well worth it!

The prices were very reasonable and I think my food (including Thai Iced Tea) with tip was under $25, which is pretty much a steal. A pastry cross between a croissant and waffle, with bananas, chocolate and whipped cream. It was seriously delicious and I wish they'd bring it back!

We waited around 30 minutes to order and get our food and there were quite a few people in the store when we went on a weekend around 7 PM. We ordered the fried rice with chicken and pad Thai. The portions looked relatively small, but filled us up perfectly. We were a party of three but only ordered two entrée since we weren't that hungry. The fried rice was not too salty and was very well balanced, and the cucumbers added an amazing freshness. The pad Thai had a strong acidity to it, but we enjoyed the crispy pork belly it came with. Both of the entrées were not too oily or greasy. The rest of their menu looked amazing and I hope to be back to try it soon. They also have Thai tea which I am a sucker for, so I'll definitely be back to try that too. Overall, I'd recommend this place for some delicious, casual Thai food and good vibes.

It's literally the one dish I always order at any Thai restaurant, so my standards is kinda up there. But also... this was in the middle of the desert at a music festival so ngl I didn't have high hopes lol. But their Spicy Shrimp Pad Thai was so good!! The flavor was super authentic, spicy, tangy, just hitting all the right notes. The noodles had that perfect chewiness, not clumped together so they know exactly what they doing with their food! The shrimp were big and tasted fresh and all the toppings: bean sprouts, grounded peanuts, and lime, just brought everything together so nicely. Also the staff were super sweet and friendly, and I got my food in likes 5 minutes, gave me more enough time to sit down and enjoy my pad thai while waiting for Sabrina Carpenter's stage setup. Miya's Pad Thai completely won me over at Coachella, it's sooo good to the point where now I actually wanna go visit the real restaurant if I'm ever around the Altadena area.

We pointed out some allergies to the staff and he helped us work around it. The orders came out quickly and he checked in on us frequently to see if we were okay. Great service! Bakka Wild Salmon - This salmon had a lot of things going on for it, in a good way! The combination of flavors felt very refreshing, especially on a hot day. The lime and basil was played a big part there. Crispy Short Rib with Lime - Even initially before coming here, this was the dish that caught our attention. I will admit the portion size was a bit smaller than I expected and was even skeptical when it came out. However, without a doubt, this was the highlight of the visit. As someone that loves savory foods, this really hit the spot. The burst of flavors settles in right away. Truffle Wok Seared Noodles - We wanted to pick this noodle dish as a balance to the protein dishes. It did its job but it tasted okay. Not something that stood out. Slow-Drip Vietnam Coffee Flan - I liked the caramel that was layered on the flan, it was crunchy and added a nice texture. It was a nice presentation but tasted okay. Thai Tea - This was my personal drink. It was a standard Thai tea but came with ice cream on top. It was not too sweet but didn't stand out compared to other items. Strawberry Pandan Lemonade - This was my girlfriend's drink. I had a small sip here but found it was refreshing and not too sweet. However, I didn't really get any pandan flavor, mainly strawberry. When it all comes together, it was a good experience. The interior of the story is more dimly lit and felt like a romantic night dinner, despite being the middle of the day. The dishes had a balance of standard and hidden gems. Everything was more than sufficient for two people to share. Service was great and very attentive. Will come back for the Crispy Short Ribs! The bar bites are meant to be small, but we ordered about four items that completely filled us up as dinner. Standouts for me, worthy tiger, prawn, ceviche, and the crispy Seabass with mangoes, mango sauce, and papaya salad. All the food has a kick, but it is not overly spicy. When I walked into the bar, I saw some house made bitters and fresh ingredients everywhere so I knew the drinks would be awesome. The Peacock margarita has passionfruit and a touch of Mezcal in it. The lychee margarita is not too sweet and so well balanced. Our mixologist, Sebastian was delightful and provided incredible service. I could go back for all these reasons and definitely will do so

We ordered: + Cream cheese wontons - the wonton was fried light but crispy, and filling was plentiful. A little pricey without having any imitation crab or green onion in there. (5 for $10.95). + Tom Kah Soup - this tasted pretty good but not like other tom kah soups I've had? The opacity of the soup was a little more transparent. Veggies included tomato, mushrooms, broccoli, and cabbage. + Kang Kiew Wan (Green Curry) - with chicken. First bites were excellent but as you ate on, it was on a saltier side so make sure to have rice on hand. Ordering here, rice is an add on but we cooked some at home so was all good. Besides the wontons, the price to portions of the other items were very good. We ordered through doordash and the price was consistent as what was on their menu too.

Here are my families favorites: Yellow chicken curry (mild) Spicy wings (they have a sweet chili glaze ) Pad Thai combination (with a lil extra sauce) Rad Na noodles (gravy is tasty!) Chicken Satay (ooh that peanut sauce is ) Papaya salad (brings a nice freshness and crunch!) Mango sticky rice (light coconut flavor and light sweetness, so good!) Even for a sit down restaurant, the ambiance is nice here too. Just small inside, so not ideal for large parties. The staff is very friendly too!

A good option for Thai food if you're in the Pasadena area. We really liked the spaciousness of…read morerestaurant. It has a very open feel with the exposed ceiling. We ordered the Pad Thai, eggplant with tofu, green curry, and sizzling beef for our main coarse. Everything was pretty good. The Pad Thai seasoning was light, not overly sweet like other Thai restaurants. The beef however on the sizzling beef dish was a little on the tough side. We ordered the fried banana dish for our desert. This was our least favorite dish. It was cold on the inside and the banana had turned brown so it was not very appetizing to look at once you cut into it. Would probably not order this again. Overall a nice experience. The staff were very nice and attentive and the restaurant was not crowded at all for lunch on a Saturday afternoon.

The restaurant is spacious and clean. They have a lunch special that is pretty limited but portions were amazing. I got the pad thai which was unfortunately lacking in flavor. The red curry was very good though so maybe their specialties are curries? We also got a dumpling appetizer as well but it was pretty whatever.
