    Baked Salmon

10/10, I come here all the time. If you like supporting small businesses, Sushi Ya is a great choice. Their sushi is always fresh. Even when I'm full I still crave more. My personal favorite is the Spicy Caterpillar Roll. Another favorite is the Baked Salmon Roll, which totally lives up to the hype.

Decent sushi and reasonably priced. Good salmon skin salad especially the ponzu (I think) based dressing, very light and tangy. The caterpillar roll was good, eel with avocado on top. Overall a good place and fast service, will definitely order again

A lot of sushi places request that you pay when you're at the restaurant. They do not allow app or online payment. I am so glad that this place allow you to pay thru Uber eats and let you pick up the order yourself. The sushi was very fresh. I really enjoyed every pieces of it. Yelpers were absolutely right about the Jasmine roll. I am not really a fan of tuna but the Jasmine roll was amazingly delicious. I would order it over and over it. The fatty yellowtail was so fresh!!!! Seriously can't get enough...I finished that one all by myself hehhe the uni was okay...I believe it could be more fresh but overall, it was not bad. The other sushi was very good as well. It was very tasty. The rice, the avocado, the sauce and the seaweed were all fresh. I would definitely come back. Service was great as well!! I sat at the donut shop since it was closed already hehhe

Don't know what the low reviews are about but I love this place!! I've probably been coming here off and on for years and stopped by recently to pick up take out. Their fish quality is amazing (probably one of my top 5 sushi places). It looks like they've switched to take out only due to Covid concerns. If you are looking for a new sushi take out place in the area, come here! Support your small businesses!!!

Great job when packaging takeout orders. The containers are very sturdy and my food was still very fresh by the time it was delivered to my house. The food is reasonably priced and you get the quality you pay for. If you're craving some sashimi, they have the best Chirashi Bowl I've had since ordering delivery. Great portions, decent selection of fish, very fresh, and the sushi rice is good too. We also had the Rainbow Roll and some sushi, which were great as well. Overall, we had a good experience and will definitely be ordering delivery from them again.

I ordered through this place via Postmares and noticed that the selections here are smaller but just a tad bit cheaper than the other place I ordered from previously. I ordered 2x tuna nigiri, 2x salmon nigiri, baked mussels, and 1x baked scallop roll. The nigiris had a good rice to fish ratio but it had that weird after taste that lingers for awhile. The salmon seemed fresher than the tuna pieces. The baked scallops were okay as well, it was kind of dry and didn't have a lot of meat to it. Maybe it would've been fine if I were to eat at the restaurant instead. The baked scallop rolls were coated in so much sauce the entire thing would crumble apart because of how soggy it was. It overpowered every thing but they were generous with the scallops. Thanks for the 2 Milkia candys though. I'll probably try something else for the menu to give them another chance.

I highly recommend this restaurant to anyone who is craving sushi (or Japanese food in general), for the following reasons: 1) The food is decent - my dining companion and I both enjoyed our meal. 2) It's open until midnight (most nights). 3) The service is friendly, yet not overbearing. 4) Despite the small parking lot, I have always been able to find an available space here when I visited the other businesses at this strip mall. 5) They supply you with a menu that appears to have a photo of (more or less) every single item you can order - I appreciate this touch, as it helps me make more informed ordering decisions. 6) Their main outdoor sign (with emojis) gives me chuckles every time I see it. 7) The prices seem (more or less) reasonable for what you get. If the seats here were cushioned and comfortable (it was neither during my visit, unfortunately), I would have definitely given this place 5 stars.

Tempura udon delivery: they put the noodles and the fried tempura all into the soup. When opened, it was all just a bloated sludge. 0/5...

I ordered Tempura Udon along with a few other dishes for delivery. Not only did they get our order incorrect with one of the rolls (this part is fine, it happens).. when I opened the udon, I found just a bloated sludge. They had not only dumped the noodles in the soup, but also stuffed all the fried tempura in as well. For delivery. Nothing was separated, so the noodles were bloated, and the tempura was completely drenched... the soggy batter just fell off onto the table when I picked up the tempura. One brain cell used to package our meal. These are just basics.. So lazy, so dumb. If this is their attitude towards their customer experience I'm afraid to spend money on any thing else they have to offer. 0/5 if I could.

Yellow Yellowtail Delight Roll and Spicy Caterpillar Roll

Ordered three rolls and the heart attack and they were SO GOOD oh my The century roll was my favorite, they put a generous amount of salmon on too unlike other sushi restaurants. The heart attack was spicy for me but my friends loved it, there's jalapeño in there and it's deep fried. Owners were very friendly and nice; cozy and clean vibes in the restaurant. Will definitely come back!

For those of you wondering why there are so many bad reviews for this restaurant. I can describe this restaurant in one picture (see picture). This is the first time ordering from Sushi Ya and my last. There was an Unidentifiable bug in my ginger when I opened the sushi container; gross! Needless to say I didn't want my $$$ to go to waist and was brave to continue eating. The fish on top of the roll smelled fishy but was soft to the bite... not good but ok. The minced "mystery" fish in the middle of the role left me with a lump in my throat. Moments later I was hugging the toilet. Sooo... not only do we have to worry about getting sick from COVID, now we have to worry about Sushi Ya killing us with bad raw fish swimming in dangerous bacteria. Word of advice stay away from there disgusting food or you may wake up in a casket.

Dinner. Generous serving of salmon sashimi, half order of catapillar role, plum wine, and miso soup.

Not sure why the low ratings, maybe because of the way the outside looks? Not sure, even I was skeptical when I saw the place. My first experience with Sushi Ya was through late night take out on a weekday. My bf did a search on Yelp and this location was one of the few sushi places that was open. He drove out and came back within 30 mins. I did not ask where he picked up the food bc it was one of those days that you just don't care and pray that the food will be good. To his and my relief, the salmon sashimi was fresh, soft, and buttery. The eel special roll was tasty - cold, warm, crispy at once. Sushi Ya saved the day that night. My bf took me to the place a week later, and was surprised to see how it looked, but everyone was so nice. They made me feel welcomed and at home. I recommend the plum wine. It is sweet, cold, and alcoholic. It is clear that this location is primarily for take out bc of the many orders we see being taken out by grubhub/postmates ppl. No complaints there! Now during covid-19, we have joined the order-to-go crowd by calling to order ahead and picking up. I do miss eating inside and will look forward to when we can resume our close to normal, pre-pandemic lives.

Food was extremely good ordered like 10 plate of sushi plus appetizers and only came up to $90. Owners were super friendly and talkative. Highly recommended!! The inside was small but super clean and feels like home.

Ask the Community - Sushi Ya

Been trying to order for the past few days and it keeps showing "the store is no longer available", is this place closed permanently?

Is this place AYCE or no? cuz i went like 3 months ago and they said that they don't do ayce any more. if that is the case, why does it pop up under AYCE "find".

This place no longer offers AYCE. It used to a few months ago!

My daughter's name is Lotus and they always draw a flower on the top. It's little details like this that tell me the people preparing this food care about it and the customers they serve. I had planned to be phone-free for the hour, but curiosity bested me and I whipped out my phone for a scan. The bulgogi with rice and miso called to me, strangely, considering the heat outside. The atmosphere at this slow hour was so nice I almost wished it was raining. A few Clairo and The Marías songs later (at the perfect volume--audible, but still low enough to have a quiet chat) my miso soup arrived. Now, it's been a good few years since I've had miso soup, and I've never really been crazy about it, but this... this was some damn good soup. Liquid umami. Then the bulgogi and rice came. This is the best bulgogi I've ever had. So tender. Quite literally melted in my mouth. Punches of savory juice, tender fatty bits, golden brown perfectly caramelized onions, and a sweetness to bring it all together. Every bite was perfect. It washed over me and my shoulders and spine practically uncoiled themselves. I want to try more from the menu but... I'm... I'm going to need this again. Like tomorrow. I should say, especially for the price, this is a lot o' grub. A perfect filling portion, especially with the rice and soup. I had a smoothie a couple hours earlier so I really should've asked for a to-go box 80% of the way through... but I was just having too much fun stuffing my face to stop. To recap--lovely service, great music, and food to live for. And a restroom. It's not public, but they do have a restroom. Thank god for that restroom. I was hungry, yes, but more than anything I really needed that restroom.

We ordered multiple nigiris, rolls, and appetizers for our table. The servers and staff seemed to not communicate with each other, leading to slow and sloppy service. The nigiris came out much later than the rolls and the bowls, to the point where half of our party was done eating before the first nigiri plate came out. In fact, the service was so slow that the servers started to clear our plates while we were waiting for them to bring out our food The servers were awkwardly clashing plates at our table and being difficult about refilling the water and tea. After dropping $800+ as a table, we were waiting on one last nigiri (Yellowtail Belly) to come out. We asked our waiter to check on it for us, and he came back to us saying it should have been on the plate that had the other Yellowtail Nigiri on it. The reason why we brought this up in the first place is because the two didn't come out together. He then brings another waitress who tells us it should have come out already, and then another who tells us completely different information (i.e. it came out with different fish). Overall an unpleasant experience. Would not be back again nor would I recommend this place to anyone, especially since they made such a big deal out of $10 nigiri on a $800 bill.

He made us feel genuinely welcomed, anticipated everything we needed, and turned our daughter's first caviar experience into such a special memory. She especially loved the dramatic cold fog rising from the ice, and needless to say, she is now officially in love with caviar! We ordered the: * 50g caviar service (ten out of ten, no notes) * shishito peppers (the sauce is out of this world) * uni pasta (the heavy cream is divine) * Wagyu strip loin steak (melts in your mouth) * baked lobster roll signature roll (pure decadence) * blue crab and salmon signature sashimi (rich, silky, and incredibly fresh) * albacore crispy onion signature sashimi (fireworks in every bite) * garlic albacore signature roll (so good, we forgot to talk) Every single dish was outstanding. We honestly couldn't choose a favorite or even rank them. The flavors were so fresh, balanced, and beautifully executed that we didn't even reach for the soy sauce. Before we left, we also had the pleasure of meeting the owner, Tigran. He took our family photo, personally walked us out, and made us feel incredibly special. That level of hospitality stayed with us just as much as the food. The restaurant itself is gorgeous, chic, stylish, and perfect for a special occasion, while still feeling warm and inviting. The tuna don had a generous portion of tuna and rice. It tasted fresh and was a simple and well executed dish that satisfies your cravings. The soba noodles were a surprise to me. I didn't expect the soba noodles to be in a sauce with a string sesame oil consistency and taste. It was refreshing yet a bit heavier as a result. I also love the variety of fish provided with it. Overall (5/5): Disclaimer - we came here late April. But this is a gem in Pasadena that we wished we visited sooner! The lunch deals have very generous portions for the price and we were super stuffed after. We also were quite impressed with the execution of the tsukemono which looked like canned vegetables mixed with mushrooms that were pickled together for an unexpectedly rich flavor. The vibes of the establishment are modern and tasteful, and we really liked how spacious it was. Service was also solid. Overall we hope to be back to further explore the menu!
