Not sure why this place is called Boston Lobster, but this outstanding restaurant in the San Gabriel Valley focuses on Cantonese and Vietnamese flavors. Their signature dish - their "house special lobster"- is the most flavorful preparation of lobster that one can have. The lobster is fried and the juicy bites of meat is layered with garlic, green onions, and sweetness. If you're lucky, you might get some roe, which gives extra salinity. An order of lobster presently costs $34/lb and a "small lobster" will weigh 3-4 lbs; therefore, I only order this signature dish for special occasions. Even if you don't want lobster, don't fret as the rest of the menu is equally delicious. Their "yang chow fried rice", crab and fish maw soup, beef loc lac, and clams with basil sauce are all personal favorites. I love their lunch specials as their entrees come with rice, but at a slightly lower price. First time at Boston Lobster on Lower Azusa Road and I was impressed! I went with my son for a one-year-old's birthday party and somehow managed to arrive an HOUR late ‍. The filet mignon medallions were delectable--tender, flavorful, and perfectly marinated. And the Lobster Noodles! This was my first time trying them and they absolutely delivered. The lobster was cut and fried in a way that made the meat tucked inside the shell really easy to get to, which made the whole experience so enjoyable. And that gravy... I was literally sucking on the lobster shell trying to get every last bit. So, so good. We also had a stir-fried green vegetable--possibly watercress--and it was delicious. I've been coming to this establishment since it was still located in that small spot on San Gabriel and Valley, so it's disappointing to say that the quality of the food seems to have gone downhill over the years. The service is still great, the restaurant itself is decently clean and spacious. Sadly, the food just wasn't up to the standards I remember. Salt & Pepper Shrimp 3/10 - Poorly seasoned and lacking the crispiness I was expecting. The shrimp just didn't have much going for it. Mongolian Beef 4/10 - This was basically steamed beef with green onions. The dish lacked the caramelized, savory flavor I typically associate with Mongolian beef. Clams with Basil 5/10 - The flavor was decent, but the clams did not taste particularly fresh, which really took away from the dish. Pan-Fried Pork 2/10 - Unfortunately, this was my least favorite. The pork didn't taste fresh, and the texture made it feel like it had been fried twice. The normally flavorful sauce it came with was also extremely bland. I'm actually very glad I came during lunch and paid lunch prices for these dishes. If I had paid dinner prices, I would have been extremely disappointed. I was able to make reservations here for 14 people. It is highly advised, considering they are so busy on the weekends. They have a very large seating area which accommodate large parties, which is good. The food here is delicious. Everything was incredibly reasonable with the exception of the fish. We got the steamed sole$90 and the lobster which is about $250 and that's expected. I am missing about four dishes that I didn't get to take a photo because in between the service was a little slow. Some of our food came out slightly more than room temperature which tells me that they probably have a lot of this pumping out. Nonetheless, the food was good. On Saturday, August 29th, I went to Boston Lobster with my best friend. This is one of our go-to places, especially when we have a massage appointment at a massage shop nearby. We usually come here for lunch either before our massage or after our massage, so it has become one of our regular places. That day, we stopped by for lunch before our massage. I ordered my favorite dish here, the Shrimp with Cashews, and my friend ordered the Seafood Noodle. I've been coming to this restaurant many times, but surprisingly, this was the first time I had ever seen the Seafood Noodle on the menu. I was curious about what it was like because my friend told me it is one of her favorite dishes. So, that day, I finally got to see it for myself. It came with two pieces of fresh ramen noodles, vegetables that looked like bok choy, and seafood underneath, including what looked like squid. I tried a bite, but honestly, it wasn't really my taste. So, I mostly enjoyed my favorite Shrimp with Cashews with lots of rice. I ate quite a bit, but there were still plenty of shrimp left, so I told my friend to finish them. My friend ended up eating quite a lot of the shrimp, too. Another thing I really like about coming here for lunch is that they offer unlimited rice, which is always a nice bonus. After we finished our meal, they brought out complimentary oranges. The oranges are always so fresh and delicious, and I really enjoy having them at the end of the meal. The servers are also always friendly and attentive, and they are quick to bring anything we need, which was really good. Since we went around lunchtime that day, we also got to see the servers sitting together around a large round table, having their own meal. It was actually nice to see them all eating together during their break. Overall, Boston Lobster is always a reliable go-to spot for us, especially when we're in the area for a massage. We went during lunch, and I think this was the first time I've ever seen this place without a line, so I was definitely happy to skip the wait. The service was really great and fast. Came to the Rosemead location to celebrate a family member's birthday on a Friday evening. We were able to call ahead earlier in the morning and ask if we could be on the wait list or reserve a table. They told us they could reserve a table for us at 6pm. The restaurant is pretty large and has about 3 rooms with different size tables and booths. No matter the size of your party, there's a table that will accommodate. The staff were very nice and attentive and FAST! We had our food out probably 15 min after we put in our order! Now...on to the food. We ordered one of the set menus for our party of 7 and it was spot on! As you can see in the pictures we had all the "classics". Our set meal could easily be enjoyed by at least 10 people. We had so many leftovers! The food was all well prepared and sufficiently seasoned. Portions of each dish was plentiful and everyone will be able to get enough to satisfy. My favorite items: lobster (duh!), kung pao chicken, pork chops, and shaking beef. The seafood soup is a great starter, and don't forget to add a little vinegar and pepper! Thanks to Rockstar Eater's recommendation, I headed over to Boston Lobster to try their lunch special. Their lunch special ends at 4:45pm, and offers various dishes that starts at $13.99. Both service & food was an 8/10. I ordered the Fried Pork Chop with Garlic Salt, Basil Fish Fillet, and Garlic Chicken. Out of the three dishes, my favorite was the Basil Fish Fillet. I feel like their cuisine is more Vietnamese style dishes than traditional Cantonese. They do offer a great wine selection (Opus One, Caymus, just to name a few) at very reasonable prices. Flavorful and on par with some of the best spots in Orange County! When it comes to this style of Cantonese/Vietnamese cuisine, there are a lot of restaurants to choose from, but it can be surprisingly hard to find one that gets all the flavors right. Boston Lobster definitely does. I've seen a lot of reviews for Kim Tar, and personally, I thought it was just alright. Some of the dishes lacked flavor, and I'd probably give it a solid 3.5 stars. Boston Lobster, on the other hand, is a place I'd actually come back to when I'm craving this type of food. The dishes have noticeably more flavor, more depth, and that extra kick that I felt was missing at Taste of MP. What surprised me most is that Boston Lobster can hold its own against some of the better Cantonese/Vietnamese restaurants I've tried in Orange County. In fact, I'd say some of the dishes here are even better. Boston lobster originally came from ex employees of Newport Seafood. They initially became a slightly less expensive alternative to Newport while offering almost exact copy of the menu items. The signature lobster is pretty much the same but just a couple dollars less each pound. They moved out of their old location on Valley Blvd (which is now the location of a phenomenal Hunan restaurant) because that location had worst parking lot. The new location is much much better with plenty of parking and a much more upscale decor. The lobster is obviously a must order as it has a unique Vietnamese Chinese flavor that I couldn't find anywhere else. In fact I used to drive down from SF just to have the lobster. I used to think there is a difference in taste between this and Newport but I can't tell anymore. However it is indeed a couple dollars cheaper each pound of lobster. The small is about 4 lbs and medium about 6. Large is obviously bigger but I recommend 2 medium or 2 small instead of large mostly due to taste. The after meal oranges are good as usual. The reason I didn't give 5 stars is that the fried food such as fried calamari is very underwhelming with over used oil and breading. We dined here last night for the first time from a friend's recommendation. The house special crab and fried calamari were pretty yummy, but not very happy with how our food was handled... One of the dish we ordered was the house special sauce crab with market price of ~$26 per pound. We added the noodles for $10. Normal practice the server should come and advise on the size of our crab before making so we can choose how big the crab we want for our dish, because we're paying by pound for the dish anyway... but within 2 minutes of placing the order, a crab dish arrived... HA! Problem 1: The server originally tried to give the crab dish to the table next to us and the folks refused the dish... then the server turned around and placed the dish onto our table for us. CLEARLY they made a mistake and made the wrong dish for next table and decide to not waste food and gave it to us. We asked if that was really our dish and they said yes... what a lie! The kitchen took 2 mins to cook our dish? haha...dumb! Next table was there before us and their house special lobster noodles arrived 10-15 minutes later. First they made a mistake, then tried to lie to cover it up. No one is stupid here. We would have been ok if they were honest about it and ask if we would accept that dish with no complain here. Problem 2: The table next to us got their plates changed multiple times and NOT once did someone came to check on us about changing plates. Problem 3: Our bill came. They charged our crab as 2.5 pounds. What a joke! I'm a crab person. I know my crabs. That tiny crab is probably around 1.5 pounds - 2 pounds max. (Check out the picture to see the small crab shell and the tiny pieces of the crab legs and meat pieces on the edge of the plate). The $10 they charged for noodles was a huge portion, but that is not the same value as 1 pound of crab that they overcharged us for the dish. OMG! If you're craving some REALLY good lobster and want to get your money's worth, Boston Lobster is definitely worth trying! I came here with a friend, just the two of us, and the portions were HUGE. We ordered a lobster that was around 3-4 pounds, and the lobster is priced per pound. I believe we had the Boston Lobster House Special, and we added the noodles for about $10 extra. Let me tell you and it did NOT disappoint. The lobster was incredibly fresh, perfectly seasoned, and absolutely mouthwatering. The noodles soaked up all that flavor from the lobster and seasoning, and everything together was just delicious. I kept wanting to eat even though I was already getting full! It is a little pricey, especially depending on the size of the lobster you choose, but they give you A LOT of food. There were only two of us, and we each had enough food left over to take home and have another full meal. Honestly, the amount we ordered could have easily fed four people. We also had the shrimp fried rice, which was delicious, and even the lemon iced tea was really good. I wanted to try more things, but there was absolutely no way, we already had so much food! The quality, freshness, portions, and overall experience put Boston Lobster on another level. I also loved the atmosphere. We sat near the live seafood tanks, so you can actually see the lobsters and other seafood in the tanks, which added to the experience. They also have their own private parking lot with two-hour parking, which is a huge plus. We didn't have reservations and were able to get seated, but I could definitely see this place getting crowded, so reservations may be helpful during busier times. For me, Boston Lobster is easily FIVE STARS. If you're in the Rosemead area looking for delicious Asian seafood and some seriously good lobster, I definitely recommend it. Sunday (10/4) night at 7 pm, my best friend and her wife invited me and another friend out to dinner to celebrate my birthday, my bestie is paying for everything, yay !!!! lol. There was only 4 of us and we ordered the house lobster (3.5 pounds), French cubes beef, fish maw and crab meat soup with ong choi ( green leafy vegetables). The seatings were a little off, they have a lot of 4 people booths by the wall and we were sat all the way in the back with half booth half chairs ( 2 chairs). It was ok at first then a group of older Vietnamese people sat right across from us and started talking really loudly. I hate eating at nice restaurants and hearing loud people talking like they at home, screaming at each other lol. First the soup came out, it was half the order, you can actually order half instead of the whole serving. One full serving is for 6-10 people depending on how much they like it but if you don't want too much, they offer half for $4 less. I would get the full serving if it was me, I love that soup lol. It needs a little more crab meat. Then the house lobster came out, it looks small for a 3.5 pound. I only had one good price and the 3 ladies had 2 good prices. Is my birthday, I should get more better prices lol. It was a young lobster because the roe/egg sack was still rubbery. Nice flavor, a little salty for me. Then the ong choi came, I never liked that vegetable, I don't like the crunchy stems, only the leafy parts lol. We wanted black bean clams but was sold out already at 7 pm, we opted for fry oysters, which is really good, it comes with a fish sauce but I didn't try with it, the flavor batter was enough and is big oysters. Last came the French beef cubes which has a good texture and flavor. It comes with chopped white onions, is good if you eat it together with the white rice. The service was good, quick and efficient. They even offered slices of oranges at the end of the meal. It was fresh, I can taste the old orange, you know that taste, is kinda bitter aftertaste. I was going to also get the beef chow fun to go but it was also so out. Overall, the meal was ok, next year, I think I'll go to Newport in Alhambra, at least their menu won't be sold out so quickly lol read more

Been looking for an authentic Chinese restaurant. Haven't been to one in a while. This place was recommended to us by a friend. Came at 530 pm on a tuesday, and there wasen't anyone here yet. Afterwards it filled up quickly!! The main thing I dont like about this place is they dont have the prices on what your ordering. Which I'll get too at the end. Like any other Chinese restaurant, their menu is super extensive. I love how they have a little bit of everything. And its very well organized too. We ordered the following: 1. Crab and fish maw soup- this soup was amazing. It was just the right temp. Got me sweating. Can easily feed 12 people. Great amount of maw. The consistency is just right. Tasted so good!! 2. Small lobster special- on a bed of noodles. It was about 5 lbs. Cooked well. Could do without. Basically flavors. And it was expensive!! About $30 a lb. So this one dish cost basically the same amount as all the other dishes. Which was just too much. If I knew it was that much I would definitely not have ordered it. 3. Walnut shrimp- not the best walnut shrimp I've had. But it was ok. 4. Garlic shrimp- this shrimp dish was ok. Too many bell peppers and onions. It was just ok. 5. Mongolian beef- flavors were not that great. Very tender though. Could've been better. 6. Sea trout- this was amazing!! I love the sauce. Fish was so soft and tender. The heat, the spice, the sweetness. Some of that sauce in white rice was just perfection. It was really really good. Best dish of what we ordered. 7. Kung pao chicken- this was a really good dish. Crispy bits of chicken. But so soft and tender inside. I love the sauce that it was in. It was by far one of the highlights of the meal. It was good food. Price for everything (except the lobster) was pretty good. Food tasted amazing for the most part. Typical Chinese customer service. Pay at the front. Massively large portions. Our family celebrated my cousins birthday here and my uncle reserved king crab for the occasion. It requires days in advance to reserve and costs market price roughly $80/lb. Each crab is roughly 10-12lbs! It was served in two versions: steamed with garlic and fried. The fried one is the best... The king crab is fresh! They don't keep it in the tracks at the restaurant as it is shipped to them the day it is served. We got to see the live crab before it's cooked. We were seated at the private room, Max capacity of 30. The servers were very kind and accommodating and was dish came one by one. We also tried their salt and pepper pork chops (crispy and tender), honey walnut shrimp (sweet salty and crispy), steamed fish (fresh and tender), lobster noodles (savory spicy and fresh), and Kung Pao chicken (sweet spicy tender!). We had a great time and stayed until they closed (9pm). It was a great experience to try their fresh king crab and Chinese dishes. The price is definitely for a very special occasion! read more

Wonderful service! We came in a big party, put down a deposit on a king crabs, and a private room. Before we sat the toddler we were with went to the fish tank, the server saw this and brought us out our king crabs so the child could see it up close. Getting together with friends on New Year's day to chow down on some lobster here is a fantastic experience. Since it's a holiday, they don't do reservations. But for our party of 9 people, it was less than half an hour wait at 5pm. We ordered the house special lobster with noodles and were told it was 4 lbs, but it seemed larger than that! It fed all of us nicely, although I do wish they provided more noodles. We also got the french style beef, deep fried sole fish, Chinese broccoli with oyster sauce, bamboo shoots with black mushroom, and westlake soup. Everything was delicious! Service was quick and friendly. Parking wasn't bad since we were there early, but even when we left at around 7pm, it was full but spots would open up if you waited a few minutes. After visiting a friend of my husband, we saw a restaurant called BOSTON LOBSTER , it's sounded good so I told my family to give the place a try before driving home to San Diego. The Restaurant has plenty of space, but I chose to be seated near the entrance, since that's where I saw most of the staff standing, that way when I need something it's easy to reach out for them. The Menu was handed to us and I saw a lot of things on their Menu in a package deal, like a family style order. I didn't order that 'coz I am not familiar with some of the things on the menu so we just chose ala cart. I ordered a few things that I knew my Husband and Son would enjoy. * 5.75 pounds of LOBSTER with GARLIC PASTA. *CRAB with TAMARIND SAUCE *PORK CHOP SALT & PEPPER * YANG CHOW FRIED RICE I wanted to order more, but I was impressed with how HONEST our server was, he said "I think you should see first when the food comes out 'coz your Lobster alone is already big. I'm glad I listened to his advice 'coz at the end of our dinner we still had plenty left 'coz the servings were big, especially the Lobster with Garlic noodles. The 5.75 pounds of LOBSTER with Garlic Pasta was Huge when they delivered it to our table, the shells were already pre cracked, so it was easy to get the Lobster Meats. Omg! having the Garlic noodles with this dish is delicious! But surprisingly this time , I loved the CRAB more than the Lobster , but both were really really good, but the reason that I liked the Crab more is because the seasoning or Flavor of the sauce that I chose for our crab is so delicious!!!! The Crab was meaty and it has a good Tanginess with a light sweetness and a light spiciness to it. While my Husband and Son were enjoying the Lobster, I was devouring the Crab ;) The Fried rice and Pork was good too, but it's just the same taste as we always get on the other restaurants. The food here were delicious, the crab was totaly devoured by me and there was plenty of the Lobster left. It was DELICIOUS, but it was a Big Portion with all that Chunky Lobster Meats and Garlic noodles, my husband and son said that it was a heavy meal and made them so full :) The Foods were delicious, the portions were big, there were Plenty of Parking around, and the Service was Excellent.
