We were served two small bowls of cucumber at the start of our meal and assumed it was a complimentary side (similar to what a lot of Korean restaurants do). We didn't question it and started eating. Midway through our meal, the manager came over and said it was actually a mistake - that the cucumbers were a paid item. He gave us two options: keep eating and get charged, or have it taken away and not be charged. At that point, we had already eaten about half. Of course, we declined the extra charge since we genuinely thought it came with our order. What happened next is what lost me as a customer. The manager took the dish and immediately dumped it in the trash right behind me, where I could hear it. It felt unnecessary and honestly a bit disrespectful. A better way to handle it would've been to acknowledge the mistake and just comp the dish this time. Instead, it turned into an awkward moment over what couldn't have been more than a few dollars' worth of cucumbers. It's a cool experience because you can actually see the chef making the noodles right in the window while you're there. This rendition featured a lot of kale, I saw some mentioned they order it without - I would consider doing that but I didn't mind it too much. I'm gonna be the outlier here. And it was more about the service than the food. The place was busy - dinnertime - and the floor was understaffed. The waiters seemed competent. However. The four of us ordered pretty quickly after being seated. Two soups, two rice dishes. Two soups and one rice dish came out. We all finished and waited and waited. We asked three different people to check on the outstanding order and three different people, including our server, told us three different kinds that it was coming and that they were sorry. By the time the food finally came, our fourth diner was so overwhelmed by her day and the lame service and the long wait that she role down and cried. We took it to go, but it ruined our day entirely. My soup was bland and basically a bowl full of noodles even though I said light noodles. The other noodle soup diner said hers was fine and the rice dish was fine. I would never come here again and cannot recommend it. Horrible experience. It's also really unpleasant in there - very bright and cheap looking. I'll give her the Cook's points, they looked like surgeons back there with their white clothes, hats, and masks. To their credit, they did comp us the late dish, but IMO they should've just comped us the whole meal since obviously we had someone very upset about it. The prime reason to visit this restaurant is for freshly made noodles. The pulled noodles are made right in front of you in the open kitchen. The restaurant actually offers a choice of four freshly made noodle types! We tried the triangle noodle with chicken entree- the hunks of chicken were impressive in the dish. We also got the beef pancakes that consist of flanked beef, cilantro and more all wrapped up in the perfect wrapper- add a little hoisin and chili sauce and you are all set. In addition to these items, we got the chili oil wontons. All three of these dishes amounted to under 50 dollars with tip and tax. Pretty good in today's economy. As for the environment- the dining area is causal, open and spacious. The dining spaces opens up to the kitchen were you can watch your food being made. The staff is super friendly and attentive. Parking can be tough in downtown Pasadena. I suggest the city parking structures which are minimal in cost. I got the Savory Braised Chicken with knife cut noodles, green onion pancake, and peach black tea drink. I waited no more than 15 minutes. Food came out piping hot and heavy. Wow, there were a lot of moist chicken and tons of veggies. Texture of the noodles were just right. Overall dish was very savory and delicious! I would order it again.
