There's a parking lot that is free for 3 hours with validation from the restaurant. We had reservation and were seated immediately. Our waiter was Jacob and he was great. Soft spoken and kind, we were very at ease with him. The restaurant itself was beautiful and the couches are very comfortable, which was a huge plus. The ginger ale is made in house and is many tiers higher than Canada Dry. We ordered the Panda Beef and the Panda Inn Special because it was our first time there and why not? Lean in to what their specials are. Both dishes were amazing. The Panda Inn Special featured large plump bites of lobster, chicken, and shrimp, with a medley of vegetables and smaller pieces of pork. The Panda Beef was shockingly amazing with crisp and flavorful slices of beef. We finished up dinner with Chocolate Lava Cake and the Warm Rice Pudding, the latter of which is also made in house. Both were a very great end to the dinner. The ladies at the reception area were incredibly kind. Shoutout to Pilar, who took my call and extended my reservation past the 15 minute grace period because traffic was extremely congested due to road closures. She was so reassuring that it took the stress out of getting there. The parking structure adjacent to the restaurant is meant for the restaurant customers, and Panda Inn validates parking. The interior looks so elegant. It looks like a place fit for formal celebrations. High ceilings, lots of space between tables, a bar - it all screamed high-end. Which it was. Our Thai server was delightful. She offered her recommendations, most of which we took. The sweet and sour pork is usually the dish by which we gauge a Chinese restaurant's authenticity and competence, and theirs was sublime. Crispy but covered in that rich, tangy sauce. The beef fried rice was as expected and so were the lobster wontons (very small portion). We ordered the lobster with crispy noodles and found it overly salty so we had to send it back to the kitchen. Thankfully, they took it off our bill. The hot and sour soup was satisfying. This place absolutely lived up to the hype. The food was exquisite. This is hands down my new favorite Chinese-American food. You could tell the food was made fresh because everything had that perfect "crunch" to the breading. This was a weekly cheat meal so we went straight for flavor. The honey walnut shrimp was literally made to perfection. Crispy batter with a crunch. Giant juicy shrimp. Caramelized honey shards on certain shrimp. Walnuts fresh and super sweet. They REALLY sauce it up, so the shrimp at the bottom are in a pool of mayo-like honey sauce. My girl liked those ones haha I stuck to the top ones. The Panda beef was outrageous. Audible crunch with every bite. Salty and umami flavors exploded from the fried shell and were immediately combined with the sweet orange glaze. Definitely some MSG magic going on. I'm craving it just writing about it. Pork belly and fermented veggies rice had incredible depth to it. Not "earthy," but substantial notes of herb and REAL Chinese seasoning. This dishes flavor profile actually transcended the "Chinese-American" template and kicked it up into "authentic regional Chinese cuisine" territory Cucumber salad was great but huge cucumber slices. Not a bad thing, just never experienced that. Big mouth to the rescue. Truffle seaweed and oyster mushroom salad was super good. Very good and, yet again, REAL ingredients. The seaweed was thick and from the ocean. Not that neon green sugary stuff you can buy from literally any grocery store. Green tea lychee drink was perfectly mellow. Idk how, but they balanced it out to the point where I didn't guzzle it down like soda. It was literally "sipping quality." Massive and beautiful restaurant. Feels like you are walking into a palace. Great free parking next door. Super high ceilings with modern ambiance. I guess having billionaire Panda Express behind you comes in handy! The service was top tier. Came here with a large group for a bday celebration. We were able to get a room which was some nice privacy to have. The service was so great. I wish I got the name of our server but I just recall he had braces. His service was on point! Food wise I would say it was a hit or miss with mostly okay. Brisket 10/10: this dish was prob the favorite of the night. It was so tender and melted off the bone. The flavor was also great and it came with Brussel sprouts. Wontons 6/10: the skin wasn't too thick which was nice but the filling was wayy too salty. The sauce was flavorful tho! Walnut shrimp 7/10: pretty good and not too battery. Shrimp was fresh. stir fried beef cubes 6/10: usually this is one of my fave dishes at restaurants but it just tasted a bit weird here. It had a stale ish taste? Like the beef was frozen prior. The sauce was also too salty. Hot and sour soup 9/10: delicious! Perfect amt of sour and hot. Orange chicken 6/10: too much batter and barely any chicken. I've always loved Chinese food, and for years, Panda Express was one of my go-to spots. But as I've tried more authentic and elevated Chinese restaurants over time, my standards have definitely changed. A couple of weeks ago, I came across a video on social media saying that Panda Inn is the restaurant Panda Express was inspired by, but on a much higher level. Naturally, I had to see for myself. My family and I went all in and ordered a little bit of everything because we wanted to try as much as we possibly could. We had the Beef Fried Rice, Chicken Lo Mein, Pork Pot Stickers, Orange Chicken, Sweet & Sour Pork, and Homestyle Braised Pork Belly. Everything was delicious, but the Beef Fried Rice and Sweet & Sour Pork were the standouts for me. The fried rice was full of flavor, and the Sweet & Sour Pork had the perfect texture: crispy on the outside, yet soft and tender on the inside. The restaurant itself is just as impressive as the food. It's beautiful inside and out, with a spacious layout that can accommodate both small and large groups. Since most of the dishes are meant to be shared, they have rotating center tables that make it easy for everyone to try different items without constantly passing plates around. There's also a nice bar area, along with a sushi bar section. Overall, Panda Inn absolutely lived up to the hype. After this experience, I honestly don't know if I can go back to Panda Express the same way. This spot is definitely being added to my list of favorites. read more

If you didn't know, Panda Inn is the high end version of Panda Express. They recently renovated this location, so my group was excited to check out. First off, I have to say that I was SO impressed with the ambiance--it was way nicer than I expected. It's a super beautiful space. The vibes make it a great spot for a date night or a fancy celebration (which I saw multiple parties doing, from a retirement party to what looked like to be a more informal wedding party). It was packed here, so I highly recommend making a reservation if you can. We had one and still ended up waiting about 15-20 minutes to be seated. Service was extremely attentive and friendly. Food wise, I would say that it was okay. Everything was enjoyable but I'd say that I was expecting more, and that was with me coming in with expectations of it being Americanized Asian food. Our party of 4 ordered the orange chicken, beef chow fun, honey walnut shrimp, spicy eggplant tofu, and a sushi roll. My favorite item was probably the beef chow fun. The revamped Panda Inn is a must try and is quickly turning in to a regular stop for us. Whether you're looking for a sit down gourmet meal or a fun time chatting with the staff at the bar, Panda Inn doesn't disappoint. For our most recent meal we sat at the bar and had an amazing dining and social experience. The bar tenders Trish & Taj were attentive and friendly and really added to the evening. We ended up doing mostly appetizers and sushi. Taj made great recommendations and even spoke to the Sushi chef's and prepared me multiple Omakase rounds for me. This place 10000% hits the spot. I'm so happy I finally got to give this place a try. I've been here three times since and everytime I'm left feeling completely satisfied with my order. The space is beautiful. There are also things on the menu that you can only get at this specific location. Some of my favorites included the chargrilled beef short ribs, braised pork belly, and the lo-mein. You also can't go wrong with the walnut shrimp and the panda beef here. The service was excellent and efficient. The food was definitely the star of the show. Everyone agreed everything we ordered was phenomenal. Amazing! How did I not know of this place sooner? The place is very pretty and looks grand. Service is very detailed and feels like a higher end restaurant. The food is authentic and very tasty. When they aren't too busy most meat dishes can be subbed with tofu and made vegetarian. The mapo tofu and honey walnut tofu was soooo good. I also have so much nostalgia for a container the rice came in and chocolate dipped fortune cookies. They don't automatically give chopsticks but they are available. My first impressions were very bad. I called the day before to make reservations. I think it was around 4pm. I was put on hold for 15 minutes with annoying on hold music. No one came back, so I hung up. Called back and was put on hold again for 5 minutes with no music. Hung up and called back and spoke to someone right away. Yay! The parking structure in the back was nice. There's dedicated Panda Inn parking spots on the second level. And, they validate the parking! The inside was very nicely decorated. The round table in the center of the room moves and rocks slightly. The chairs are very comfortable. Okay, let's get to the food. Excellent!!! We had orange chicken, beef & broccoli, honey walnut shrimp, and cream cheese/crab wontons. White or brown rice is included with the entrees. Came for lunch on a Friday. They have a parking structure in the back and the restaurant will validate up to 3H or parking! The place is huge is beautiful. They have nice comfortable seating and lots of lighting. We were seated right away as well! The only grievance is that they don't bother giving you the lunch menu for lunch. You apparently have to ask for it. It kinda irked me but I guess I know for next time. The food we ordered was decent. We got a dungeoness crab salad, upside down noodles, and the panda special for protein. Flavors and presentation were wonderful. I was a little disappointed w my cocktail. Overall, everything was really good! I went with a large group, so we decided to do family-style dining. We sat on the outdoor patio, but the inside of the restaurant was clean and pretty. Service was good. They were attentive and packed all our dishes to go for us. All the dishes tasted delicious, but the egg drop soup and lettuce wraps were my favorites. I could honestly finish the entire egg drop soup by myself :) that's how much I loved it! The mapo tofu wasn't too spicy and paired perfectly with steamed white rice. Delicious. Our friends took us to celebrate our anniversary and the meal was so good. This was the first time eating at this location and everything was wonderful. Lunch date with my mom and she wanted to go to Panda Inn in Pasadena. It's my first time back at the newly renovated Pasadena location. We used to go here all the time before the renovations. Huge difference in ambience, but same good customer service and food quality. They used to have Brunch on Sundays with Mai tais and Mimosas - wish they'd bring that back!! We ordered several things Cucumber salad, chicken lettuce wraps (order more lettuce wraps), the cashew chicken was good, but still prefer their Kung pao chicken. Mongolian beef, upside noodles with chicken, and brown rice. ALL DELICIOUS and portions were great - we had plenty for dinner too. The honey walnut shrimp was easily my favorite dish. The shrimp was cooked well, and the sweetness was balanced perfectly without being overpowering. The flavors came together really well, and I wanted another plate! The chow mein was also good, with a nice flavor and that classic comfort food quality that never disappoints. The beef and broccoli was solid too. Nothing particularly unique, but it was cooked well and tasted good. One dish that surprised me was the spicy beef salad. I was a little skeptical at first since it was a salad, but it ended up being one of the highlights of the meal. Overall our server was very nice and organized, which was great because we had a large party of 9 and wound up spending quite a bit of money on cocktails, appetizers and food. But unfortunately when my guava margarita arrived it wasn't completely full, about 3/4 of an inch lower than the rim. My dinner companions' drinks were all up to the rim, in fact 2 sloshed out a little, so I asked the server about it and she insisted that every drink was measured out properly and it was just the glass. This was impossible because my one of my friends had the same exact glass, we put them side by side to verify. His was full to the top and mine wasn't. She refused to replace or alter the drink. At $16 you expect a full glass. And to make matters worse with cocktail was pretty meh, weak and nothing unique. Her refusal pretty much ruined the rest of the dinner for me. It would have been so easy for her to make her client happy by adding a bit of mixer to it. Instead I'm writing a critical review and wondering if I should return if Panda Inn so petty about this kind of thing. There's plenty of competition! read more

My third visit, mainly to try their mapo tofu. OMG it's the best-tasting version I've had in a long time. Most restaurants either make it Cantonese-style (silken tofu, no Sichuan peppercorn), or Sichuan-style (soft tofu, too much peppercorn). The Panda Inn version is an ideal balance of the two -- soft tofu, mildly tingling peppercorn in a highly aromatic dark brown sauce. Eating it with white rice is mandatory. It reminds me of Iron Chef Chen Kenichi's signature mapo tofu in Tokyo. My compliments to the 'Iron Chef' of Pasadena Panda Inn! read more

Last week we were able to bring our family for dinner! My wife order the cooked sushi, sorry I forgot the name of it BUT IT WAS GREAT!! We had Shrimp Lo Mein, Orange Chicken, Shrimp Fried Rice, Beef Fried Rice and it was delicious!! I have a mushroom allergy and they were so nice to ensure they didn't have it in the food. So I finally made it to the famed Panda Inn. I've been wanting to check it out for a while, especially since it's the birthplace of Panda Express. Luckily, I now work nearby, so I was finally able to give it a try. The place has been recently updated, and the dining room is spacious with a modern feel. I sat at the bar for a few drinks and a meal. Unfortunately, there's no happy hour, which was a bit of a letdown. Both the drinks and food are a little pricey for what you get. I ordered the famous orange chicken because you have to on your first visit. It was definitely better than Panda Express, but you're also paying about three times as much. Overall, I came for the history and to say I've been. That said, there are plenty of better Chinese food options in the area at a lower price point. Still, if it's on your list, it's worth checking out at least once. So if you gotta go you gotta go. read more

We both chose the spicy Hot and Sour Soup. We shared our entrees. First of all I hate to say it, but I like the eggplant and tofu and orange chicken a bit better at Panda Express. Call me crazy, but I am honest. The service started out great, but by the time we paid our bill it dropped off. No more warm and fuzzy if you get my gist by the time we left an hour later. Always had a smile on his face and was warm and welcoming. I wish I got the name of this other lady as she seemed unhappy and upset as if she was rushing to get people out fast. She was the lady that asked if we wanted our leftovers boxed and the one that took our empty plates . I should have asked for her name but I missed it. But aside from her all the others were kind and nice. The food was great and the ambiance was nice. Very interesting and aesthetically pleasing interior . Definitely coming back. I love the atmosphere at Panda Inn! The decor and layout sort of reminds me of Flemings. The service is generally pretty good - unless they're super slammed. We normally get the orange chicken, kung pao shrimp, garlic green beans, Mongolian beef, and eggplant tofu. The food is so savory and delicious! A tad greasy, but that's just the way this food goes. There's plenty of validated parking and street parking for the large prettily decorated restaurant that also has a patio. The staff is friendly and moves quickly. We over ordered but were happy to have leftovers. The orange chicken was great. We opted to get kung pow shrimp as opposed to chicken. The chow fun (with chicken) was an item the table next to us asked about. The Mushu Pork didn't quite live up to my childhood memories but was tasty. Growing up eating Panda Express, I finally decided to try Panda Inn! Food: 5/5 The honey walnut was crispy, juicy, and flavorful. The pieces of melon mixed into the dish gave it a pop of freshness! The organ w chicken actually had a hint of orange. Unlike Panda Express, the flavor of the chicken tasted natural instead of artificial flavoring. Keep in mind that the dish does have more chili flakes than Panda Express. The popcorn chicken was our appetizer and it was a great was to start our meal. Despite the dish not including any dipping sauce, the chicken itself was flavored with 5 spice and had a nice crunch. The portions were very generous! The peach yuzu highball was very refreshing. However, I was missing the peach flavor as it was stronger on the yuzu. Service: 2/5 The service is what lost a few points for me. Our server rarely came by. However, when she did she didn't seem like she was in a good mood. When we needed to ask for something, we felt hesitate due to her body language and mood. When we paid for our check, we handed her the final receipt with a tip and said thank you. She took the check and walked away without a word. I dine here every so often, since I live nearby. Most recently I tried their DineLA lunch menu. This was a day after I did DineLA at Yakiya across the street, which is also owned by the Cherng family. I booked a reservation at opening time, just as I did at Yakiya. And like Yakiya, Panda seemed short-staffed early on. My waiter was attentive, and there were several chefs at the sushi counter, but the food took quite some time to come out, which would have been an issue if I was a worker on a lunch break. That being said, the food was good to great. The DineLA menu comes with 2 apps--tuna with crispy onions and spicy pickled cabbage. Both were tasty; the albacore tuna was a bit haphazardly sliced. My lychee and Jasmine green iced tea was great. Next there was a choice of 6 entrees. I chose my go-to, Honey Walnut Shrimp. This version was fab, clearly freshly made. The shrimp were still hot and crisp, the sauce not yet making the shrimp breading gloppy, as happens at Panda Express. There were loads of candied walnuts, plus some slices of honeydew melon as garnish! I would say in general that any dish that's offered both at Panda Inn and Panda Express will taste better at Panda Inn because it is made to order, and sometimes comes with additional garnish. It will be more costly at Panda, however. Dessert was a choice between cheesecake or rice pudding. The food and experience just wasn't there. Our waiter was kind and helpful, but it took quite a long time to get our food. Something was off in the kitchen the night of 1/25/2026. The wonton soup was bland and cold. The shrimp dish we ordered was excellent Dumplings great Fried rice was ok Noodles ok Japanese cheesecake was ok Also we learned that the different locations have different menus. So items we were looking forward to that are in La Palma, are not offered at the Pasadena location. If you find a panda inn location you Rick with, keep going to that one. The Pasadena location is beautiful and has the perfect ambiance. But I will take the windowless box that is La Palma because that food is magnificent! Parking was easy. I have always loved Panda Inn, i've been coming here as a child but this was my first time at the renovated location and can I say WOW beautiful work... feels like a luxury restaurant and the service was great. I love that it is family style so everyone can share and split things ... the noodles were my favorite they were deliciousssss. not pictured here we also got the beef and broccoli and it was so good. the lettuce wraps are am must have. only complain I have is that I want MORE then 4 lol I would say get the chocolate lava cake but skip out on the warm pudding read more

Restaurant is Gorgeous! Food was Excellent!! Service needs Improvement!!! Party of 6 and the gratuity in already included does not mean you don't do your job! The restaurant was not busy. We had two servers Kyle and the "Taller guy" both were inattentive. They never checked on the table. Just dropped off the food. I asked both separately for water, it never did come. I had to go to the bar and get it myself! The only thing that was fast was the clearing of the table and the bill. The service needs to be stepped UP! Hopefully on my next trip to California, my next Panda Inn experience will be better. read more

Kind staff, beautiful restaurant, and I appreciate the free parking with validation! We got egg drop soup, beef and broccoli, and orange chicken, but I've heard that the duck is also amazing! I appreciated the chocolate covered fortune cookies too! read more
