Bbq chicken & Teriyaki Beef Bánh mì $15 with free tea.
    Mark G.

This was not my first time here but it's been a while. This past Saturday there was a Jazz festival at Caltech and I decided on buying two different Bánh mì sandwiches to take to the show. The price of the sandwiches have risen, but what hasn't. Looking over the menu I ordered one teriyaki beef and one bbq chicken Bánh mì. The sandwiches were $7.50 each a great value and when my order was ready the lady asked if I would like a free tea. Both sandwiches were great. The teriyaki beef was not overly sweet, like some sauces are, and the meat was very tender. The bbq chicken was equally as good and the baguette was fresh with a nice crunchy crust. The inside of the sandwich and a good amount of veggies. I look forward to many return visits.

I was in the Pasadena area one evening. I saw Pho Banh Mi Che Cali. I'm used to seeing them as Banh Mi Che Cali more so in the San Gabriel Valley area. Thought I check out this location with Pho in the biz name even though I didn't try their Pho for my first visit. There is a very small parking lot in the back behind the restaurant. Get here during low peak times if you want parking. Street parking may be limited. Good inside and outside seatings are available. You may choose to order via self-ordering kiosks or at the counter. I chose the counter option. Staff was friendly, nice, and helpful. I was eyeing their sandwiches, baked savory and sweet pastries, and desserts. I ended up getting a handful of items to-go as shown below. I actually ordered twice. I wanted more food LOL. Prices were reasonable. I feel this place is somewhat of a fusion between Vietnamese and Thai foods. Self-service veggie condiments station available for dine-in only. 1st Order: 1. Lemongrass chicken sandwich was very good. Definitely get again! 2. Spicy fried rice with chicken was delicious. 3. Pork banh pate was so very very tasty. 4. Mung bean non-sesame ball needs more filling and sweetness. 5. Coconut jelly was fantastic! Would get again. 6. Pandan tofu was bland. Needed more sweetness. 2nd Order: 1. Pork loaf sandwich was decent, but needed more pate. Veggies were very fresh. Bread was soft at the time of purchase, but after toasting it in the toaster oven the day after, it was nice and crispy... very good! 2. Egg rolls were okay. Nothing special. I will come back here for their yummy sandwiches. I will have to try their Pho next time. Happy Pho Banh Mi Che Cali!

Right on Colorado Blvd. Across from PCC this place has got great Pho. Prices aren't too bad and the food is delicious. Place your order at the counter and the food will brought to your table. Nothing fancy here just good food. There is parking in back that is shared with another business. It is a massage spa. More parking is available on Colorado Bl. The wait staff is typical of this type of establishment . Great place for friends and late nights. I came with friends around 9 and the place easy busy.

Got some delivery. The banh mi obama was pretty good, nice pork patties, good bread but could have used some mayo. The egg rolls were good as well as the fresh shrimp roll. Good yang chow fried rice.

Ordered a grilled pork banh mi for pick-up because I've been craving it for months! lol It was such a good sandwich. The baguette was fresh, not tough & chewy. The pickled veggies & herbs were fresh. The grilled pork was salty & umami.

Nice place to grab a quick meal. I got a bbq chicken banh mi and it was delicious. The sandwich was big and they were generous with the filling. I love how they put lots of veggies in it. Everything seemed seemed fresh and made to order. The egg rolls were okay and I probably wouldn't get it again. It tasted fine, just needed a little more filler.

12.23.2o24 Free drink 2pm-5pm with order of pho/noodles, vermicelli or house specials. You can even add a topping to the drink! The pork wasn't very good because it was very tough. The shrimp, however, was very fresh and favorable. The spicy beef noodle didn't come with a lot of noodles. The honey green tea was decent.

One of the cheap Pho and Banh Mi spaces in the area, quick and casual vibes. Pricer than places that have BOGO but it is in Pasadena. The customer base is typically college students from PCC so it's priced accordingly. I do recommend getting your money's worth through its Happy Hour where you can get free drinks. Take advantage of the self serve bar for extra veggies (bean sprouts, jalapeños, limes, basil, etc.) for your soup. You order from a kiosk. The service is fast and great. The sandwiches are filling with nice homemade buns. The Pho has a rich broth and comes piping out.

I went here on March 30. My favorite part was the pork, it was grilled to perfection. It was a big bowl, I felt so full after eating it. The server was polite and got us the chopsticks we requested since we didn't have any utensils. They have a 15% off deal when we went so we also got egg rolls for takeout. They had a renovation so the walls are tile. I like the ambiance, it's pretty bright inside.

Think of it as a grilled onigiri, but made with sticky rice instead of regular short-grain rice. The rice is well-seasoned with plenty of flavor, while the filling reminds me of Vietnamese steamed rice cakes, making it both familiar and creative. The fresh spring rolls are made to order and taste incredibly fresh. I tried the nem, sautéed beef, and lemongrass chicken, and each had its own distinct flavor. They're generously packed with vegetables, making for a light yet satisfying meal. If I had one small complaint, it would be the dipping sauce. It's more tangy and savory than I prefer. Personally, I'd love a little more sweetness to balance the flavors. Overall, the food is fresh, unique, and well executed. I'd happily come back to try more of the menu.

The nem nuong is sweetened charbroiled pork that is grilled. Think of a sweet meat ball. The egg rolls are super crispy and filled with meat. The noodles go well with the fish sauce and there are a lot of veggies inside. The nem nuong coun is a spring roll that's wrapped in rice paper. Finally got a chance to come-in & I'm glad that I did. Although, I have my "go-to whole-in-the-wall Vietnamese" place in the SFV, there's always room for more businesses to support & Mama Hong's Vietnamese Kitchen - Burbank definitely deserves your patronage. It's a welcome step-up from your typical no-frills Vietnamese place, so the vibe / decor is especially great if you're introducing someone to Vietnamese cuisine for their first time. FOOD **PRO TIP: Go "Family-Style" = split multiple dishes amongst your table so you can have the opportunity to try multiple delishes dishes at once. That's the move. Shaken Beef Garlic Noodles - 9.2 / 10 **GET THIS DISH!!!!!** I did my "due diligence" before coming here & I 100% knew that I wanted to try this particular dish as soon as I came into the restaurant. In fact, the person whom I came here with wanted this too. (She didn't tell me in-advance). Needless to say, when multiple people have the exact same dish in-mind, you know that this is a good sign. Strips of lean, tender, juicy, quality, tenderloin steak, well-sautéed onions, plenty of garlic, served on top of a bed of al dente noodles. What's not to love? It's like eating a big, bowl, or spaghetti, but without the overpowering tomato sauce. Don't let the simplicity fool you. Yeah, I could very, well likely make this dish as home, but sometime it' just nice to leave some things to the pros. You can't go wrong with this dish. It sounds delicious in theory & it delivers on all fronts in reality. Spicy Garlic Chicken Rice - 8.9 / 10 A nice counterpoint to the heavier beef dishes that are offered, the well-seasoned, not-overly dry, but not-too spicy chicken is substantial. Round that off with an adequate portion of perfectly-steamed white rice & some fresh veggies (your standard pickled carrots, daikon radish, & lettuce), & you got yourself a solid chicken dish. Grilled Ribeye Steak Sandwich - 9.1 / 10 I hadn't had breakfast, so I was definitely craving a bit more to satisfy my hunger. This beef variant of a traditional Vietnamese Bahn-Mi hit the spot. Since I'm used to eating more economical + fattier cuts of beef for my bahn-mi, it's a rather welcome + modern twist to be using more premium cuts of steak (I honestly might steal this move the next time I whip-up a bahn-mi at home). It was hearty & you can definitely tell that the quality is there. I could be mistaken, but I wouldn't be surprised if there was some fish sauce that was used to marinade the steak. It makes for such a well-rounded, savory flavor. The crisp veggies, & aromatic cilantro round-out all taste sensations on a fresh baguette. In many ways, this is the fancier, upgraded, "Rolls Royce", of a typical whole-in-the wall Vietnamese spot's bahn-mi, & that is sometimes what you want. I would definitely get this again, especially if I was on-the-go. DRINKS Mango Jasmine Iced Tea - 8.9 / 10 Don't sleep on Mama Hong's handcrafted beverages. The mango jasmine iced tea provides everything that I want in a thirst-quenching drink. You get the tropical tones of the mango offset by the herbaceous jasmine of the tea. I really appreciate that it's not overly sweet. I especially dig that their handcrafted beverages come in customized branded plastic packaging with that soda-can lever-opener-style lid. You just don't get that anywhere. The staff is beyond accommodating. Shout-out to Mariska for being such a friendly & warm server. Granted, I came on a Sunday afternoon (around 2pm-3:30pm), don't be surprised if you have to wait because I can see this place being quite the trendy spot. Granted it's casual, it's still feels a bit nicer/fancier than the more relaxed bars, fast-casual spots in the surrounding area. You can't go wrong with Mama Hong's Vietnamese Kitchen - Burbank. A solid choice, indeed.

Bone Kettle has become one of my favorite restaurants, and it's one of those places I keep coming…read moreback to because it's consistently amazing. If you come for dinner, do yourself a favor and order the Brussels sprouts, they're only available at dinner, and I genuinely get them every single time. They're that good. The noodle soups are always incredible too. The broth is rich and flavorful, the noodles are perfectly cooked, and no matter how many times I've been, the quality has never changed. That kind of consistency is hard to find and really keeps me coming back. The service is always friendly and the food comes out surprisingly quickly, even when they're busy. I also appreciate that they're a tipless restaurant with a 20% service charge already included. It's nice knowing the staff is taken care of without having to think about calculating a tip at the end.

Most of the food was amazing, though I did not try the papaya salad. The sisig is a bit too sour…read moreand salty than I expected, but the pork belly in the sisig stood out greatly. As for the pork ribs, the tamarind sauce gave it a big boost. Beef rendang and the carbonara were also great. Service was gracious to us, as we arrived early before our reservation time and the rest of our party did not arrive until five minutes later, they let us in early, though one of the servers gave the rice bowl I ordered a bit later than expected, since I thought it was going to come out as soon as the sisig came. They also gave a drink that one of my party ordered a bit too slow. Atmosphere-wise, we dined al fresco or outside, and it was pretty cool outside, so everything was good. This was my second visit to the restaurant, and overall, I would highly recommend this place if you want to look for fine dining in Pasadena!
