Loved every aspect of this adorable little restaurant in Altadena. Warm, friendly environment beautifully decorated with delicious food!

This place has been on my LIST for some quite time and so glad we got to try it today. I got there right when it opened, because I've always known it to have a wait. (Great trick!). I am not Thai, BUT, if I had to describe the food as "it tastes like home" that's how I would describe it. There was a comfort in the flavors: strong but not overpowering, tasty, and just comforting. The staff was friendly with everyone. We sat in the area where the register and kitchen are at, by the window. And it was really cool to see the comings and goings. There are options to sit in the addition room or even outside. Many also called in orders for pick up (my friend does this all the time)!

Got here around 630pm on a Friday night. We were told the wait time is upwards of 20 minutes to get a table and 30 minutes for food. We lucked out and only waited outside in the cold for 10 minutes tops. We were seated and food arrived in about 10-15 min. When you check in for a table, you can place the order for your food first. This reduced the wait time significantly. Pad thai with shrimp - so much flavor, not your ordinary pad thai. It had small dried shrimp, a kick with some red pepper and a strong tamarind sauce. Khao soi soup - the flat egg noodles soak up all the flavors of the curry. It's a bit spicy for me but I love the contrasting textures, the softness of the egg noodles with the crispy noodles. Thai fried chicken - different than other fried chicken I've had. My husband loved it. It was covered in crispy fried shallots and you dip it in a sweet and sour sauce. A bit different because there's sticky rice included as well as a papaya salad with the fried chicken. The Papaya salad is kinda cooling after eating the fried chicken so I feel it balanced it out. Tom kha soup - probably one of my top dishes this time, maybe because it was one of the non spicy dishes so I got to enjoy it much more haha. It's savory, a little tart from the lime and the mushrooms were tender (also soaked up the soup so flavorful). There are multiple small tables all around with 2 larger tables. You walk in one side of the restaurant and there's a walkway leading to the next "room" with additional seating. Not a big place but cozy and comfortable.

Pad Thai... excellent !!!

Seriously - You've got to try Miya. It's one of the best Thai Food restaurants I've ever had. WOW! Every single dish at Miya is just absolutely delicious: flavors, spices, spiciness, freshness, mix of ingredients, saltiness... everything was PERFECTO! While I always refer this restaurant "in Pasadena", Miya is actually in Altadena -- just north of Pasadena. It is a cozy spot and well known for their homestyle dishes that is just perfectly cooked and seasoned. Once inside, you would order at the cash register before finding a seat. Then they'll bring the food to your table. Service is fast, efficient and very friendly. In SoCal - there is no shortage of great eats at great prices... and Miya definitely TOPS THE LIST FOR ME!! I am so coming back next time and asap! Thanks for a great meal!!!

Miya is a hidden gem! I came on a Friday afternoon and service was amazing. If you're vegetarian/vegan there are options for you, but most things have oyster/fish sauce. I got the tofu pad Thai and it was 10/10. It was delicious and so fast. Make sure you eat in the second room, it's beautifully decorated.

Heard great things about Miya so gathered some friends to come here for lunch. We ordered fried chicken, pad see ew, pad Thai with crispy pork belly, yellow curry, and spicy crispy pork basil. The pad Thai has good flavor. So glad it's not made with ketchup like some Thai restaurants. All the other dishes were great except the spicy crispy pork basil. Our party all thought the pork belly pieces were too hard and hard to eat. Otherwise it's deeply savory and can make you eat so much rice with it. We got there at 11:30am on a friendly. It was calm but the lunch crowd started coming in. The decor is cute and warm. It's like eating at someone's home. The menu is on the wall. You order at the counter first and they will bring the food to the table. Overall a pretty good meal. I'd come back to try other dishes.

I went here for a solo dinner on a rainy Friday night. I arrived at 6PM and it was already filled to the brim! The inside of the restaurant felt so cozy and the walls and shelves were filled with wonderful knick knacks. This was instantly a space I wanted to return to. Once you enter, you order at the front and pay before being shown to a seat. A waiter will bring you water and utensils. There are actually 2 dining rooms, so don't panic like I did when you see the first room full. I ended up ordering the famous thai fried chicken. Needless to say, the chicken was DELICIOUS! It was perfectly crispy and juicy. I'm so glad the pieces were already cut as well. The highlight was definitely the papaya salad though. I didn't even touch the sweet and sour sauce haha. The only thing I was missing was some spice. I think next time I'll ask if I can get the papaya salad spicy. Definitely looking forward to my next visit to try some other dishes!

Some things to note: closed on Monday. Tuesday is plant based so no meat. We found out about plant based when we showed up The tofu pad thai was delicious. I didnt know there was seating in the back. Another great visit and would recommend

Our first time at Miya! we ordered the eggrolls, fried chicken, and shrimp pad thai. The eggrolls were perfection and super crispy. (def reccomend) The fried chicken was crispy and juicy, and the papaya salad worked perfectly the fried chicken. The pad thai was okay/fine, nothing special, but the shrimp was big and juicy, which we loved. Maybe next time we will try their other stir fried entrees. Everything was great! The ambiance was so cute and vintage

This review is post fire and COVID-19. It was so nice to be able to dine inside the restaurant, which was adorned with various ornaments and decorations from Thailand. Service is quick, as they just keep bringing the food to tables until they remove your number. I found the food fairly authentic and the green curry hot enough to make my nose run. Just remember to order at the counter first from the menu behind the cashier, then follow the staff to your table. The best location is at the window, where you have some breathing room. This was a great after Valentine dinner and hit the spot!

Cute local Thai spot in Altadena -- Miya Stopped by on a Tuesday and it happened to be their Plant-Based Tuesday They reopened around June after the fire, and the space feels clean, bright, and cozy. Order at the counter, then grab your own utensils and water -- super casual and relaxed. What we got: ‍ Fried King Oyster Mushroom (my favorite, almost every table got one) Yellow Pineapple Curry (I prefer my curry with meat) Pineapple Fried Rice ((Flavorful but not overly salty) Looking to come back on a non plant based day

Look at this beautiful dish, Thai fried chicken, papaya salad like no other, sticky rice was DELICIOUS and that sauce game changer.

Lovely eatery! So thankful we have this amazing restaurant in Altadena. What a way to build back the Altadena community, especially after the fires. My wife told me about this place and said that we HAVE TO GO. Glad we did! Right off the bat the outdoor seating resembles of what I have witnessed through travel shows how eateries in Thailand would resemble. So you get this feel of what their home would feel like. It was nice. The interior decor is filled with authenticity, vintage posters in Thai, flags, memorabilia of what an authentic Thai restaurant should be. The smell is so satisfying the moment you enter. And totally appreciate the ordering process, thankfully they charge prior to seating which is why I am grateful restaurants are waking up to dine n dashers. You pay upfront once you order then you are seated. Pricing is actually reasonable considering the portion sizes are not single serving, more to share. Can't leave out the amazing service. Such polite people representing their business. Now that we ordered our Pad sew veggie, pumpkin curry, and Thai fried chicken it was time to be seated in the dining area located in the back. Honestly this is a really nice restaurant. Gives you "on vacation" vibes the entire time. Sauce carts on the side with to go packaging in case you don't finish all your food. It's great. Now the food! Everything was perfect. The pad sew was delicious. I love noodles any kind of noodles! This was not your typical pad sew you get from other Thai eateries. The broccoli had this mustardy essence to it. Super crunchy. Love at each bite, super authentic. The pumpkin curry to me felt like dessert with a hint of spice. It was so good. My wife was loving every bit of it. And my all time favorite entree which I am going to provide a photo of cause my big back forgot to take the other photos was the Thai fried chicken. Freaken amazing. So much crunch, so juicy and tender LOTS OF FLAVOR. It came with a side of sticky rice, papaya salad(was to die for) and some sweet Thai chili sauce. Nothing I mean nothing CAN COMPARE TO THIS DISH! Best item on the menu IMO. So damn good. A must buy! Shoutout to Miya for bringing all this love and flavor to Altadena. We much appreciate this!

Charming place in Altadena with great food and unique decor. We came here for a work lunch and were surprised to find out it was Plant Tuesday, and it was our first visit... We ordered the standard Thai dishes: papaya salad, fried egg rolls, and pad Thai with tofu. We also tried a pumpkin red curry (to kick off the pumpkin spice season) and the fried chicken (with lion's head mushroom). The fried lion's head mushroom plate was our favorite, it tasted like fried chicken, with crispy golden fried batter, when you took the first bite, it almost tasted like chicken! The plate came with a small scoop of steamed rice and some marinated cabbage. The pumpkin red curry was a-ok, the red curry had good flavor, the dish had eggplant, carrots, green beans, and huge chunks of Japanese pumpkin. However, the veggies lacked flavor, as they were steamed separately and then added to the red curry soup rather than being cooked together. We would definitely visit again for the lion's heim mushroom plate, but not much on the veggie curry..,

Ask the Community - Miya

Would this be safe for one with celiac?🤞🏼?

Do they serve alcohol here?

Yes

Does it look like they'll have inside dining anytime soon? We actually like to get out of the house once in awhile and not have to deal with Pasadena.

We went there last Sunday, and they said inside dining will be in a couple of months.=

Are they taking phone orders yet?

Yes, I placed a phone order the other day. The menu for the day is on their instagram, which sucks if you don't have instagram.

Do they take credit cards?

Yup

My server was very attentive and came by to check on me often, even when the restaurant started to get a little busy. My dish was the pad thai with chicken, that came with soup, salad, egg roll. The noodles were delicious, and the egg roll was fresh. The soup was surprisingly filling so I ended up taking most of the lunch home. The prices were very reasonable and I think my food (including Thai Iced Tea) with tip was under $25, which is pretty much a steal. Plus, I love the ambiance (or is it aesthetic as the young ones call it?). It's a very calming place. Highly recommend!

We ordered the tom yum noodle soup, pork collar, papaya salad, shrimp ceviche, and the captain whatever curry. Unfortunately, the tom yum noodle soup and the curry were especially underwhelming. Both dishes lacked the bold, balanced flavors that define Thai cuisine--there was no real heat, tanginess, sweetness, or depth. When I go to a Thai or Thai-inspired restaurant, I expect vibrant, layered flavors, but what we received tasted muted and almost as if key ingredients were missing. It honestly made me wonder if there had been a mistake in the kitchen. The service didn't help improve the experience. Our server rarely checked in on us--no one asked if we needed napkins or refills, and empty or untouched plates were left sitting on the table far too long. When I brought up the issue with the lack of flavor, there was little acknowledgment and nothing was done to address the concern or make things right. Overall, the combination of bland food and inattentive service made for a frustrating dining experience. Side Note: It should've been obvious to me when I saw that there weren't any Asian patrons that this place would be a disappointment. Shame on this "Michelin-starred" chef.

The setting felt quaint and peaceful, with calm music playing softly in the background. It wasn't loud or overwhelming -- just a really relaxed vibe. The decor was beautiful too. There were Thai figurines and detailed wall art throughout the restaurant that gave it an authentic, cultural feel without being over the top. One thing I really appreciated was the menu. It was simple -- just one page, front and back. I actually prefer that. When a restaurant has too many options, it's way harder to decide. This felt curated and intentional. Of course, I had to start with a Thai Iced Tea. I get one every time I go to a Thai restaurant -- it's mandatory for me at this point. It wasn't overly sweet, which I liked, and it was really smooth and refreshing. We ordered a 6-count of spring rolls to go because I love spring rolls and can never pass them up. They were crispy, fresh, and exactly what you'd want. For the main dishes, I got the Hat Yai Chicken. It was basically Asian-inspired fried chicken, but elevated. It was absolutely delicious -- crispy on the outside, tender on the inside. It came with a sweet and sour sauce that had a little kick to it, which made it even better. My girlfriend ordered the Duck Curry, and we shared it. The curry had generous chunks of duck and was paired with red and green bell peppers plus pineapple for a little added sweetness. The sauce itself was sweet, spicy, and creamy all at once -- a perfect balance of flavor. They brought out a huge bowl of rice to pour the curry over, which made it even better. We were also served water with lemon, which was simple but refreshing and thoughtful. The staff was super friendly. The hostess was especially kind -- she even helped my girlfriend open the to-go bag when she was having trouble with it. Small gesture, but it showed great service. For everything we ordered, it came out to about $120 (we added tip, of course). Honestly, for the quality, portions, and experience, I thought it was fair. Overall: 9/10.
