I really wanted to like this place because it's a cute spot, and since I live i don't live too far. Unfortunately, both the service and the food were disappointing. Service: This is a walk-up counter where you order first. Hand written menu on the wall. I asked if the green onions could be left off the crab fried rice because my sister has a food allergy. We were initially told they don't allow any alterations. After a bit of back and forth, the woman at the counter finally said she'd do it "because we're not busy," but added that they wouldn't do it next time. That should have been our first sign to leave. Accommodating a food allergy shouldn't feel like you're asking for a favor. Whatever happened to customer service? Bill was $140 so wasn't cheap. Crab Fried Rice: The portion was generous, but it was surprisingly sweet. We specifically requested no green onions due to an allergy, which became an issue before we even got the food. Flavor-wise, it lacked the savory balance you'd expect and tasted overly sugary. They did use real crab. Tom Yum Shrimp Soup: This was the biggest disappointment. Tom Yum should be bright, tart, spicy, and aromatic. Instead, it was noticeably sweet, with very little of the sourness that makes the soup so enjoyable. Papaya Salad with Fried Chicken: The fried chicken was crispy and the portion was large, but the papaya salad was far too sweet. Good papaya salad should have a balance of lime, fish sauce, heat, and a touch of sweetness--not taste like sugar was the dominant ingredient. Chicken Larb: Again, a generous portion, but the seasoning missed the mark. Larb should be vibrant with lime juice, fish sauce, herbs, and toasted rice powder. Instead, it leaned heavily sweet, and the bright, tangy flavors were missing. Morning Glory: Another large portion, but once again the sweetness overwhelmed the dish. By the end of the meal, everything tasted sweet. Did the chef mix the salt vs sugar ? I noticed they have a cart stocked with large bottles of fish sauce, hot sauce, and other condiments, which made me wonder if customers are expected to adjust the flavors themselves because the kitchen won't. I kept adding fish sauce to try to balance the dishes, but there was no fixing how overly sweet everything was. Overall, the portions were generous and the restaurant is cute, at the heart of the Altadena fire really wanted to come Back and support but the service and the execution of the food were a big miss for me. Sadly, I won't be back.
We didn't have any trouble finding parking on the street but there's also a lot behind. As soon as we entered, we were greeted by approximately eight-year-old Miya herself! She took our order as if she's been doing it all her life! For vegetables, she recommended Chinese Broccoli, because she loves its crispy stems, but we chose Morning Glory, which turned out to be really wonderfully seasoned (the hubby's highlight dish!), we also got the Khao Soi chicken noodles, which was almost too hot for me, but oh so delicious! and Pumpkin Red Curry, which was not too spicy at all, but also very delicious. And it had so many other things in it besides pumpkin... There was carrots, and cabbage, and more things I can't remember! I wish we lived closer so we could come back more often! There's outdoor seating, but we sat inside where there was a nice mellow vibe.
**Disclaimer--this is based on Miya food booth at Coachella 2026, not the actual restaurant location** I went to Coachella Weekend 1 and Miya was actually my very first vendor meal there. I got their Spicy Shrimp Pad Thai and omg... it was lowkey one of the best pad thai I've had in a WHILE. And I don't say that lightly because I'm picky picky when it comes to pad thai. It's literally the one dish I always order at any Thai restaurant, so my standards is kinda up there. But also... this was in the middle of the desert at a music festival so ngl I didn't have high hopes lol. But their Spicy Shrimp Pad Thai was so good!! The flavor was super authentic, spicy, tangy, just hitting all the right notes. The noodles had that perfect chewiness, not clumped together so they know exactly what they doing with their food! The shrimp were big and tasted fresh and all the toppings: bean sprouts, grounded peanuts, and lime, just brought everything together so nicely. Also the staff were super sweet and friendly, and I got my food in likes 5 minutes, gave me more enough time to sit down and enjoy my pad thai while waiting for Sabrina Carpenter's stage setup. Miya's Pad Thai completely won me over at Coachella, it's sooo good to the point where now I actually wanna go visit the real restaurant if I'm ever around the Altadena area.
Super adorable Thai food shop in Altadena. The vibe and decor inside is extremely cozy and homey. They have retro posters and arcade games and old vintage toys decorating the store, which is super cute. We waited around 30 minutes to order and get our food and there were quite a few people in the store when we went on a weekend around 7 PM. We ordered the fried rice with chicken and pad Thai. The portions looked relatively small, but filled us up perfectly. We were a party of three but only ordered two entrée since we weren't that hungry. The fried rice was not too salty and was very well balanced, and the cucumbers added an amazing freshness. The pad Thai had a strong acidity to it, but we enjoyed the crispy pork belly it came with. Both of the entrées were not too oily or greasy. The rest of their menu looked amazing and I hope to be back to try it soon. They also have Thai tea which I am a sucker for, so I'll definitely be back to try that too. Overall, I'd recommend this place for some delicious, casual Thai food and good vibes.
We went to Miya on a weeknight to grab some food after a hike and had a fantastic experience. I was born and raised in Altadena but hadn't had a chance to eat there before the fires as I was living out of the state at the time. An I will say I am definitely happy it survived the fires because the food was excellent! We got the tom kha, green curry, and fried chicken, which was plenty of food for 2 people. The tom kha was a bit on the sweeter side but still super good, and both the green curry and the fried chicken were fantastic. It was pretty much packed when we were there with both families and young couples, which makes me super happy to see this area starting to take off a little bit! We came pretty close to closing and they allowed us to sit and brought our food out super quick which we were very thankful for!
This place has been on my LIST for some quite time and so glad we got to try it today. I got there right when it opened, because I've always known it to have a wait. (Great trick!). I am not Thai, BUT, if I had to describe the food as "it tastes like home" that's how I would describe it. There was a comfort in the flavors: strong but not overpowering, tasty, and just comforting. The staff was friendly with everyone. We sat in the area where the register and kitchen are at, by the window. And it was really cool to see the comings and goings. There are options to sit in the addition room or even outside. Many also called in orders for pick up (my friend does this all the time)!
Seriously - You've got to try Miya. It's one of the best Thai Food restaurants I've ever had. WOW! Every single dish at Miya is just absolutely delicious: flavors, spices, spiciness, freshness, mix of ingredients, saltiness... everything was PERFECTO! While I always refer this restaurant "in Pasadena", Miya is actually in Altadena -- just north of Pasadena. It is a cozy spot and well known for their homestyle dishes that is just perfectly cooked and seasoned. Once inside, you would order at the cash register before finding a seat. Then they'll bring the food to your table. Service is fast, efficient and very friendly. In SoCal - there is no shortage of great eats at great prices... and Miya definitely TOPS THE LIST FOR ME!! I am so coming back next time and asap! Thanks for a great meal!!!
Got here around 630pm on a Friday night. We were told the wait time is upwards of 20 minutes to get a table and 30 minutes for food. We lucked out and only waited outside in the cold for 10 minutes tops. We were seated and food arrived in about 10-15 min. When you check in for a table, you can place the order for your food first. This reduced the wait time significantly. Pad thai with shrimp - so much flavor, not your ordinary pad thai. It had small dried shrimp, a kick with some red pepper and a strong tamarind sauce. Khao soi soup - the flat egg noodles soak up all the flavors of the curry. It's a bit spicy for me but I love the contrasting textures, the softness of the egg noodles with the crispy noodles. Thai fried chicken - different than other fried chicken I've had. My husband loved it. It was covered in crispy fried shallots and you dip it in a sweet and sour sauce. A bit different because there's sticky rice included as well as a papaya salad with the fried chicken. The Papaya salad is kinda cooling after eating the fried chicken so I feel it balanced it out. Tom kha soup - probably one of my top dishes this time, maybe because it was one of the non spicy dishes so I got to enjoy it much more haha. It's savory, a little tart from the lime and the mushrooms were tender (also soaked up the soup so flavorful). There are multiple small tables all around with 2 larger tables. You walk in one side of the restaurant and there's a walkway leading to the next "room" with additional seating. Not a big place but cozy and comfortable.
Miya is a hidden gem! I came on a Friday afternoon and service was amazing. If you're vegetarian/vegan there are options for you, but most things have oyster/fish sauce. I got the tofu pad Thai and it was 10/10. It was delicious and so fast. Make sure you eat in the second room, it's beautifully decorated.
Heard great things about Miya so gathered some friends to come here for lunch. We ordered fried chicken, pad see ew, pad Thai with crispy pork belly, yellow curry, and spicy crispy pork basil. The pad Thai has good flavor. So glad it's not made with ketchup like some Thai restaurants. All the other dishes were great except the spicy crispy pork basil. Our party all thought the pork belly pieces were too hard and hard to eat. Otherwise it's deeply savory and can make you eat so much rice with it. We got there at 11:30am on a friendly. It was calm but the lunch crowd started coming in. The decor is cute and warm. It's like eating at someone's home. The menu is on the wall. You order at the counter first and they will bring the food to the table. Overall a pretty good meal. I'd come back to try other dishes.
I went here for a solo dinner on a rainy Friday night. I arrived at 6PM and it was already filled to the brim! The inside of the restaurant felt so cozy and the walls and shelves were filled with wonderful knick knacks. This was instantly a space I wanted to return to. Once you enter, you order at the front and pay before being shown to a seat. A waiter will bring you water and utensils. There are actually 2 dining rooms, so don't panic like I did when you see the first room full. I ended up ordering the famous thai fried chicken. Needless to say, the chicken was DELICIOUS! It was perfectly crispy and juicy. I'm so glad the pieces were already cut as well. The highlight was definitely the papaya salad though. I didn't even touch the sweet and sour sauce haha. The only thing I was missing was some spice. I think next time I'll ask if I can get the papaya salad spicy. Definitely looking forward to my next visit to try some other dishes!

Almost thought they were closed for the day because the door was so heavy! I've never been here but wanted to check it out after hearing that they've reopened since the fires. Alot of the surrounding buildings have burned so there isn't much foot traffic in the area but Miya still had a steady flow of customers during lunch on a weekday. They had alot of cute figurines that definitely kept me busy while waiting for our food. We had their curry, crispy thai fried chicken, and pad siew, all of which were delicious. They have a few tables up front and additional seating in the next room over (also nicely decorated). I feel like Thai food has really been having its moment and am happy to be adding Miya to my list :) read more

Our first time at Miya! we ordered the eggrolls, fried chicken, and shrimp pad thai. The eggrolls were perfection and super crispy. (def reccomend) The fried chicken was crispy and juicy, and the papaya salad worked perfectly the fried chicken. The pad thai was okay/fine, nothing special, but the shrimp was big and juicy, which we loved. Maybe next time we will try their other stir fried entrees. Everything was great! It was surreal to see the empty lots and burnt structures surrounding Miya due to the Eaton Fire, and supporting small businesses like Miya is much more important now. I loved the simplicity of the restaurant and the reasonably priced, delicious homestyle Thai food it serves. The Thai fried chicken and papaya salad were delicious and boneless. The stir-fry morning glory had the right amount of funk to it, and it was glorious. I can't wait to come by on a Tuesday to try their fully plant-based menu as well. read more

First time here. My work group was curious about the "Plant Based Tuesday" menu so the 6 of us went and enjoyed a delicious, well-seasoned, non-meat feast!! I was so impressed by the flavor of their dishes and the use of tofu, mushrooms and the variety of veggies...so yummy. I ordered the spicy red pumpkin curry, green beans and tofu, pad Thai, Tum yum Kai soup and a fried rice. Portions were generous. We definitely ordered too many dishes but we wanted to try everything. The seating area is divided into two small areas. You don't notice the cozy and decorated w/ items from Thailand. Miya in Lake has some of the best Thai food I've had in LA. We tried the Fried Chicken & Papaya Salad, Pad Siew with Beef, Yellow Curry with Chicken, and Pork & Shrimp Egg Rolls, and every dish was fresh and flavorful. The space is so cute and charming, all the servers were so sweet. I also liked the little carts with takeout boxes and bags so you could easily pack up leftovers yourself. It's especially nice to see Miya reopen while so many nearby businesses are still gone from the fires. Miya is officially going on my regular rotation. Please support this Altadena gem! read more
An absolute gem! Great authentic food, such cute vibe, made me just feel so happy finding and dining at this place. Its cafeteria style where you order up at the counter, sit down, and they bring you the food. Everything was shockingly good, including the service. I'm not a veg but the vegan pumpkin curry is out of control and was our fav dish of the night. Fried chicken has the best crispy skin, pineapple fried rice was excellent, and sticky rice and papaya salad were perfect. My only gripe is the tables for outdoor seating; they're a little small, are slatted, and kinda shaky. For food with a lot of sauces and dips I'd prefer a slightly larger more stable table with a vinyl tablecloth so I don't drip food on myself again. I could see a compact wood picnic bench working really well here.. The fact that this is my only bit of feedback should tell you to absolutely go here and bring your appetite! An enchanting Thai canteena on Lake Avenue that delivers smoky, delectable, mouth-watering Thai haute-street food! I say "haute" because it's not greasy and sloppy rather executed with finesse, and also offers a "Plant-based Tuesday" option when the menu is all non-meat options. The mouth feel and taste of the food smacks of a well-seasoned wok wielded by an expert cook. Plating is expert and consistent. The energy of the food speaks to the wonderful hand of the cooking. I can't praise it enough. Fresh tender coconut juice is available to cool off the palate. None of this anglicized menu affectation, just authentic Thai cooking. The plant-based "beef with beans" was banging! The Pad Prik Tofu was equally a five-star dish. The wooden tables inside and the cute sidewalk tables outside deliver a charming casual setting. This is my favorite hole in the wall and I dream about returning. read more

The ambience here is so cute they have a lot of cute themed trinkets and nice decor that makes it feel so cozy. The food was actually delicious I was craving Thai and the pictures stood out to me so we picked it and it did not disappoint. The egg rolls were fresh and crunchy. The pas see ew had a great flavor. And the fried chicken was bomb! They use onion crisps in the breading which was a nice touch. Definitely recommend read more

Delicious food! I ordered take out and tried the Crab fried rice this time, pouring sides of their fish sauce with chilis all over it. Oh my goodness I'm in love ...yum yum yum I also had the papaya salad and pad siew w/chicken Amazing Team of Women! Boss babes who are kind, present and making it happen. Great atmosphere. Clean. I love this cute little spot on Lake. Probably the best place in the area for Thai food. It's definitely a cozy restaurant with maybe three or four tables inside and two tables outside. You order at the counter, and the staff will bring out your food. The staff is always friendly and the service is always quick and efficient. Each visit we have tried something new and everything we have tried has been delicious. I believe the dishes range in price from $15-$20 or so, which seems to be the going rate. On our most recent visit, we tried a beef pad thai which was really tasty, though they used thin vermicelli like noodles which I was not used to. We have also had the pad see ew and some curry dishes, which I highly recommend. However the standout dish was the fried chicken which came with papaya salad. It was so flavorful and crispy, and the salad was a perfect foil to the fried chicken. I believe that's only available for dinner so be mindful. read more

Second time trying this spot and this time we ordered the chicken pad thai, crispy crab cakes, grilled curry chicken, and eggplant. Everything was very delicious. The grilled chicken was amazing! So flavorful and smokey, I wish got 2 orders. The chicken pad thai was delicious as well although it does pack a punch. Be careful not to eat those chili peppers on accident! I always like the way they cook their eggplant, very flavorful and juicy. And the crab cakes were also a must have. I think it was 100% crab with each bite. Legit thai food in Altadena. Their khao soi was one of the best I've ever had in LA. They nailed all the flavors and ingredients. The portion was pretty filling too. Customer service could use some work. We walked in and no one at the counter acknowledged us for a while. Not the most friendliest establishment The space is TINY. 3 small tables and a long table inside, and 2 medium tables outside. read more

This was my second time at Miya, the food was excellent and I consider it to be one of the best Thai restaurants in the LA area I've tried. Occasionally singled out as one of the restaurants that reopened soon after the Altadena fires to help the community, you can expect long waits. The restaurant has a quirky retro feel with 60's and 70's knickknacks and a small TV with rabbit ears on the counter. I love it Altadena Strong! read more

My first time here but it was on my list for a while. The people inside are super nice and the ambiance is super cute. I chose to sit in the back room to read my book but the front room has a large window for people watching. I got the Thai fried chicken, which was super amazing! I will definitely be back to try more dishes. I wish they had mango stick rice when I went but they didn't, that would have elevated it to the next level. Nonetheless, this is a great spot!!! They're back!!!! So happy to see them open again! They're starting with a limited menu - but it was made quickly and everything is fabulous! Yellow chicken curry was amazing, Tom Yum shrimp soup was the perfect amount of spiciness & the pad siew noodles were delicious! They just got a beer & wine license, too! Does it look like they'll have inside dining anytime soon? We actually like to get out of the house once in awhile and not have to deal with Pasadena.
