Saw all the hypes about this place and especially their Khao Soi. Went there just few minutes before the end of their lunch special. 11:00-2:30pm. $14.95 per dish. Comes with soup and an egg roll. We ordered the Khao Soi, green curry and pad Thai. We were so disappointed of all three dishes. The Khao Soi is quite water down and don't have much of a flavor. The wrong egg noodles were served with the gravy. The pad has some flavor after drowning it with the chili fish sauce and crushed peanuts and bean sprouts, of which you have to ask for it. The green curry is just as plain as bread. Service was excellent though. read more

Stopped by on a hot day to kill an hour. The ube ice cream was fantastic; lots of versions I've tried use just the artificial flavoring but this had real flecks of purple yam inside. Not much in terms of decoration, but it is spacious and comfortable. The Fish Cakes were not loaded with fillers and were quite flavorful. Yum Woon Sen is a winner, especially if you like glass noodles, but you need to have high tolerance. I bit into some chili, and it took a while for me to recover, but great flavor. The Khao Soi with vegetables was generously portioned. You get a lot of different veggies including cabbage, bok choy & broccoli. Mom had Khao Soi with tofu. They offered fried tofu (not the soft kind) which was a bit tough according to her, a wonderful dish nevertheless. Service was attentive and friendly. We were offered complimentary pudding in 3 different flavors, coconut, mango and chocolate. They were all good, but my favorite was mango. I'm glad the owner opened up a second location, and it's in Pasadena. I love that many of the entrees can be customized to be vegan-friendly for my husband, and how tasty the food is, just like their Monrovia location. The space they took over from another Thai restaurant feels really dated, and it appeared that there was only one server assisting all customers on a Saturday afternoon during our visit. Also, they are not carrying the same menu items that are offered at the Monrovia location, such as the Thai Boat Noodles. Nevertheless, I am glad there's another great Thai restaurant nearby. read more

If there was a zero star, that's what I would have rated this place in Pasadena. The food was awful. I don't understand how this place has earned the ratings it shows, probably their own ratings of themselves. Food was not only bland and tasteless, the prices made it even worse. And to top it all, they required an 18% service charge. Just ridiculous! Bill was $200+, including the 18% service charge. Don't waste your money; just go to a fast food place and you're sure not to get upset about it. First time coming to Thai Thyme. Heard good things online and wanted to check it out in person. They have a Monrovia location but just opened this location in Pasadena. Got their papaya salad with shrimp medium spicy. Just the perfect amount of spice and refreshing. Shrimp was cooked perfectly. Their grilled shrimp with garlic pepper sauce is a must get. Even though it was a lunch prime time, food came out so quickly and server lady was so nice. We got chicken Khao Soi, Pad See Ew, and Chicken Satay. My boyfriend and I were really looking forward to our takeout tonight, but unfortunately, the meal didn't live up to expectations. We ordered the Tom Yum Soup with Shrimp and the Basil Eggplant with Beef, but both dishes had significant execution issues. First, the Tom Yum soup was incredibly salty--to the point where it was actually inedible. We love the bright, sour, and spicy notes this soup usually offers, but the salt completely overwhelmed everything else. Secondly, the Basil Eggplant with Beef was very disappointing. The dish was swimming in oil and lacked any real flavor or seasoning. It felt like it needed a fresh approach or a different technique to bring out the aromatics of the basil and the richness of the beef without it being so greasy. We really wanted to love this meal, but it feels like the kitchen might need to revisit their recipes or focus more on flavor balance. The crab fried rice was awful. What little crab there was in the dish was dried up, tough, and flavorless. It was a simple dish of white rice, the dessicated crab bits, and scrambled egg. Found this place by sheer luck after a long day of running errands, and it felt like we had found an oasis. We had our husky with us, which limited where we could all be together from the get go and enjoy down time. We were immediately greeted by the owner in their beautiful back patio, where his staff was speedy and super accommodating. Service was good and they were polite but again food was not tasty, not spicy and average to be kind.
