So I was really happy to find out they have a location inside the Santa Anita Mall Food Court! Now I can get my IPOH KOPITIAM fix without having to deal with the wait at the Alhambra location. We tried: - Singapore Hainanese Chicken Rice - Curry Chicken with Steamed Rice - Toast with Homemade Kaya & Butter Honestly, I enjoyed all three! But the Curry Chicken was definitely my favorite. The portion was generous -- I got 4 pieces of drumsticks & thighs, and they were also very generous with the curry sauce. The chicken was flavorful and the sauce went perfectly with the steamed rice. I was happy to find this location open, especially since the restaurant I originally planned to visit was closed that day. Located inside a food court, this location offers both self-ordering kiosks and the option to order directly from the staff at the counter. I ordered the Hainan Chicken Rice, which was served in a to-go style container even though we were dining at the food court. While the portion was decent, I personally think the experience would be more enjoyable at the Alhambra location, especially for dine-in. The presentation there feels more appealing, and the overall dining experience is enhanced by the way the food is plated. One thing I found particularly attractive is their promotion: for an additional $3 with a main course, you can get an iced lemon tea. In my opinion, that is a pretty good value and a nice addition to the meal. I'm not sure if it's because this location is in a food court, but I felt like the quality wasn't quite the same. When I found out they have an abbreviated version at The Shops at Santa Anita food court in Arcadia, I said cool! Perfect location at a food court. An abundance of shared community seating inside. Parking lot is huge, but weekends can get very crowded. If you want to snatch a parking spot closer to the mall, come early. Menu has selective Malaysian and Singaporean rice dishes, bakery treats, appetizers, and beverages. Two self-order kiosks are available. Lady staff members were friendly and helpful. Order was ready within reasonable time. I wanted to try their most popular dishes. Got 4 food items and 1 drink. Every single food item was so very delicious. I got hainan chicken rice and requested for dark meat only but it was half and half. Not sure if they read the requests or not since it through a kiosk. Surprised to see them at the Arcadia mall and no long lines like the Alhambra location. We are lunch here and I ordered the Malaysian roast chicken with rice. Ipoh Kopitiam has quickly become one of my favorite spots for Malaysian comfort food. We ordered the Hainan chicken rice and the BBQ pork rice, and both were excellent. The Hainan chicken was incredibly tender and juicy with silky skin, and the fragrant chicken rice paired perfectly with the ginger sauce and chili. The BBQ pork (char siu) was the standout for me--it had a beautiful caramelized glaze with just the right balance of sweet and savory, and the edges had that delicious smoky char. Every bite was flavorful without being overly sweet. The portions were generous, the food came out fresh, and everything tasted authentic. Pretty cool to see an Ipoh Kopitiam in the Shops Mall. It wasn't too crowded when I arrived at 6 PM on a Tuesday, and the food came out pretty quickly. The food was good, but I also felt like it wasn't anything particularly special. I ended up getting the Nasi Lemak with Beef Rendang, and the portion was a bit lacking, especially for the price. It came with only about two pieces of beef and some potatoes. There was a lot of rice, and overall it felt like I was eating mostly rice with some sauce. I was still a bit hungry afterward as well. I heard about this place from a real Malaysian person and was pleasantly surprised to find that they have a place in the mall food court. There wasn't a line so I walked up and immediately ordered from the touch screen kiosk. The food didn't take a long time to come out and they wrapped it in a plastic bag even though I ate it there but there was no way for them to know that. I found a table in the extensive food court area and unwrapped the bag. The utensils were conveniently in the bag. There was plenty of sauce and if I were to do it again, I would have ordered a drink. Spicy! But delicious. I look forward to trying other menu items. Ipoh Kopitiam has officially opened at Santa Anita Mall, and the food court format makes it more convenient than ever. Service is quick, everything comes packed in to-go containers, and it's easy to grab a meal while shopping. The portions and flavors are still very reminiscent of the original Alhambra location. The Beef Rendang is tender and rich and fragrant with spices, while the Grilled Chicken is flavorful with a nice charred finish. My favorite part of any Malaysian rice plate is always the Sambal Ikan Bilis, and this one delivers the perfect balance of spicy heat and savory umami from the anchovies. The only downside is that the menu has been significantly streamlined for the food court setting, so some of my favorites--like the Laksa and other soup noodle dishes--aren't available. That said, it's still great to have a solid Malaysian option in the mall, especially one that feels a little healthier than many of the other food court choices. Service: There were two kiosks where you can place the order and someone will call your number once your order is ready. Text notifications is also available. Food: I am not sure if I am imagining it but I think there are fewer options available at this location. It would make sense since it is not an actual sit down restaurant. I am not quite sure if the portions are the same either since everything is packaged in takeout containers. My roti canai was mushy despite the fact that I ate it also immediately at the food court. I went to Santa Anita Mall today with the kids and finally got a chance to try the second location of Ipoh Kopitiam. I went with the classic Nasi Lemak with Chicken Curry and White Coffee combo, while the kids ordered the Roti with Chicken Curry, along with a side of steamed rice to share. The Nasi Lemak was very flavorful and came with all the traditional sides- peanuts, egg, anchovies, and cucumber. Everything tasted pretty on point, and the combination of flavors worked really well together. I regularly drink the 3-in-1 white coffee packages but not sure how authenic those are, but this is certainly an upgrade from those. Kid raved about the flavor of the curry chicken and decide to get extra rice after roti ran out to savour the remain chicken curry. The best part for me is how convenient a mall food court can be, especially since we got here around 11:30 a.m. on a Sunday. There was no line, so we could take our time deciding what to order from one of the kiosks at the front counter. I finally got to try this hyped spot on a Saturday without a crazy line. It's got a cute small stall area for a mall court food spot. I liked the milo decor & it made me get the drink There's not much service involved since it's mostly kiosk for self order. Only time there's interaction is picking up your food. This is a relatively new food court restaurant at the Santa Anita Shopping Center. For mall food it is delicious, but I really would like to order from a person, rather than a computer. We had the Singapore Style Hainanese Chicken Rice and Signature BBQ Pork Char Siu Rice. Although this is not a sit-down restaurant the food is outstanding! However, their Pork Char Siu had small bones that are within the meat and caused my grandson to pull the bone from his mouth. This is their second location in LA. This venue is at the Shops in Santa Anita's food court. The food is pretty much the same as their main restaurant in Alhambra but with a smaller menu. We got the Hainan chicken rice and it was delicious. The portion could have been a little bigger. We also got the spicy beef rendang with roti. The roti was buttery, flaky and divine. So was the rendang sauce and the beef was very tender. This is also a small dish, portion wise. I got the Malaysian coffee and that was the only negative. It was awful. I stopped by this location because the main location closes on Wednesdays. Unfortunately I was pretty disappointed with this locations quality. I ordered the Hainan chicken rice and while the portion sizes are identical to the main store for takeout, the quality is definitely a huge difference. This Malaysia eatery inside the Santa Anita mall has to be one of the best places to eat at the mall. I'll drive 30 miles again for this experience! I never able to try it in their main store in Alhambra. So I was very excited to hear this new store opened in the Arcadia mall food court. I am well aware of the limited menu and the food court situation. So I was not expected any service etc. So, just review the food. The food that we ordered is really greatly below mid. We ordered the famous Hainan chicken rice and also the toast and the Malaysia cha Siu rice. The deboned hainan chicken doesn't look like the freshest that we can see. And we found couple pieces of small bones while eating it. A big no no for any deboned meat. It could just crush the teeth. And the cha Siu rice with egg is simply terrible!! The meat is all fatty and overly sweet. I count it. I can't find one piece of meat that contain more than 1/2 lean meat!! While fatty cha Siu is a treat, but not THAT FATTY. The dark soy sauce is overly sweet and the egg is just not appealing. And the toast that we got.... With that like jam inside and charged $4.5.... Well, definitely not going back. Tried the Hainan chicken rice here and... it was just ok. The chicken was tender enough, but I really wish they used more dark meat or at least offered the option. What I got leaned pretty heavy on the lighter cuts, which made the whole dish feel a little flat. For $18 and "takeout" only, the presentation wasn't great. If you're takeout-only, the box is literally the first impression, so it should look a bit more put together. Instead, it felt like everything was dropped in quickly and hoped for the best. And the sauces... opening those little oily containers and trying to pour them over the chicken felt like something you wouldn't want to pay much for. Either dress the dish for me or give me an easier way to dip it...? My hands were way too oily by the end. Other places do the same dish for around $15 with better portions and presentation, so this was hard to justify. Service was also rough. It's a self-kiosk setup, which is totally fine, but when our order was ready, getting staff attention took forever. They called out my order, but I stood there for almost ten minutes trying to get someone to actually hand it to me. The flavor was good, but the rice-to-chicken ratio was way off. I literally still had a bowl full of rice left after finishing all the chicken. The roti pancake was also very small, which felt a bit disappointing. I saved the kaya toast for breakfast the next day and it was just okay. Came here out of sheer curiousity on my food court tour. Brand new spot inside of the Arcadia mall. It's Malaysian cuisine from a particular region that has influences of Cantonese and Indian. So the menu will have some familiarity if you've eaten from both. Ordering is through touch screen kiosks. Got the beef rendang that came with rice, and one soda. Total was around 18 bucks, which isn't too bad for what you're getting. I was expecting to get my meal on a plate and a soda with ice (when I ordered it on the kiosk, there were adjustments for amount ice), but the food came in plastic take-home containers. And the soda in a can. Lol. Really strange. If you're at a food court, there's a reasonable expectation that you will be eating in said court. But they didn't provide any plates or bowls. Ending up eating the stuff at home. As for the food, it was just OK. The beef was somewhat tender and had a plenty of heat. Portions were enough for two as well. So it was probably worth the price. Keep in mind, though, that everything here is most likely pre-made and they just heat and box up your order to go. It has to be as nobody has time to wait 20 minutes at a food court with dishes like these that certainly take time to make. At any rate, I did see roti on the menu. Who doesn't like roti? Located in a food court, so it can be loud in the background and there's plenty of seating. Wait time was about 30 min. They ran out of steamed rice so we got chicken rice to replace them all. They package the food all in takeout containers with no napkin dispensers at the counter. You can ask for water though. We tried 4 dishes on their menu and they were all average.
