Paradise Dynasty puts Din Tai Fung to shame it has so many great selections on the menu. They have a wide selection of Xiao Long Bau including their newest Birria Xiao Long Bau. The only negative thing is that their green beans are old beans meaning that they picked them too late off the bush. Haricots verts, or French green beans, should be nice and tender and delicious. These were stringy, dry, and mealy.The beans seemed like they were picked off the bush too late. Other than that, the service is great. The ambience is great. I'm glad we came during the time when it's not too busy still very delicious food let's see if the manager manager will make good on the beans. Whenever we are craving for dumplings and Chinese food at South Coast Plaza, the deciding factor usually comes down to one thing...the wait. It's almost always a choice between Paradise Dynasty or Din Tai Fung and this time Paradise Dynasty won. I checked OpenTable but ended up calling the restaurant directly. The host let me know there was no wait and since we were only about five minutes away, it made the decision easy. The food here has been satisfying and many of the dishes are comparable to Din Tai Fung without the long wait. If you're looking to satisfy a dumpling craving, this place definitely delivers. Our food arrived quickly. It's also an excellent option for larger groups since the menu is designed for sharing and making it nice for gatherings with family, friends, or coworkers. Service was efficient rather than personalized. The staff kept things moving and the food came out quickly. They seem focused on getting guests served efficiently, which isn't necessarily a bad thing, especially during busy dining hours like how we came on a Sunday during lunch time. Overall, Paradise Dynasty is a solid choice when you're shopping at South Coast Plaza and want quality Chinese food without committing to a lengthy wait. Paradise Dynasty is always a solid option for me. I look at it differently than Din Tai Fung because it's not trying to be the same thing -- they have different flavors, different menu items, and overall a slightly different style of cuisine. The biggest plus for me is that they do fun collaborations, the wait usually isn't bad, and it scratches that soup dumpling craving without dealing with full DTF chaos. This time I came for their collaboration item, the birria soup dumplings, and honestly they were good. I've been here for a few collabs now and I think this one has been my favorite so far. Anytime they drop a new collab, I'll usually come back and try it. I also ordered the seasonal mochi with black sesame and green tea. Presentation was super cute and definitely on point, but flavor-wise it was just too sweet for me. The green tea filling was good, but everything came in this sugary syrup that reminded me of the sweet syrup served with Vietnamese tofu desserts. I usually love black sesame too, but between that and the syrup, it was a lot. I ate one of each and that was enough for me. The string beans with minced pork were good though. They do give you the option without minced pork, but honestly I don't know why you'd skip it because that's where most of the flavor is. I could see it getting salty if you got too much of it, but overall I liked that dish. Service has always been fine here -- not over-the-top amazing, but good. I usually go during off times right when they open, so they're attentive and pretty quick every time I've gone. Overall, I'd definitely come back. Paradise Dynasty is known for their xiao long bao. One of their most popular items are their "specialty xiao long bao", which has 8 different flavors of the juicy soup dumplings. While I enjoyed the original, black truffle, crab roe, and szechuan flavors, the other flavors were really eccentric. Cheese xiao long bao had a little American cheese in it. BBQ pulled pork tasted like BBQ sauce. Garlic had a very strong garlic oil flavor. The dumpling skins were excellent and I loved the pork and abundant soup filling. The condiments (vinegar, soy, chili oil) at our table, however, were in pretty bad shape (sticky/dirty), which wasn't the best look. We also ordered their chili oil wontons, their shanghai pan fried bao, and their sweet and sour pork rib appetizer. These were also good, but nothing special. The xiao long baos ordered this time were disappointing because the dumplings touched the bamboo steamer. When it does that, it's hard to pull it away from the bamboo. Therefore, the XLB rips and with it goes all the soup - completely decimating the soup dumpling experience. We only had one good XLB and that was the one in the center; all the others stuck to the bamboo and tore. This event was redeemed by the shrimp and pork wontons in chili oil because they were so tasty. The filling was quite airy and light - not to be confused with light in filling. Definitely the best dish I had this time. (Unfortunately, I was hoping to order the radish pastry but they ran out. THAT is the best dish Paradise Dynasty has.) This place is beautifully decorated; the concepts are unique, and the staff are polite. Though, the food wasn't very authentic as an Asian restaurant in my opinion. The XLB was a really interesting experience because of all the different flavors and colors! I will say that there were some flavors I wasn't too fond of which was the only reason why I probably ordered it again but it's definitely fun to try. The fried rice was super moist and flavorful and definitely something I would get again. One thing though, is that when we got the package (ordered to-go) the vinegar spilled all over the boxes inside and the person helping us out did replace the bag, but did not wipe anything so everything was all wet when we took it out. We ended up spending a bunch of time wiping everything down before we actually got to enjoy and eat. It's not too big of a deal but definitely for a restaurant like Paradise Dynasty I would've thought their process and presentation would be a lot better. read more

The best place for Xiao Long Bao of different flavors and top sauce and quick service with several enticing menu items make this restaurant one of the top choice for the discerning South Coast Plaza shoppers! This restaurant rocks compared to any other fancy restaurants in service, taste, attention to details, soup selections and the open, airy tall ceiling with excellent decor. Even their Chopsticks are awesome. The logical and well thought out menu and the Dim Sum style individual selection paper provided initially were somewhat daunting but the lady seated next to us explained how to navigate through the simple alphabetical orders of different styles of food totally satisfied my understanding! We ordered the top two Xiao Long Bao and were served almost immediately. The pork dish was fantastic. The soup came out as advertised Hot, Sour, perfectly balanced and savory with full of flavors. Made reservations for a party of 8 via OpenTable. My husband and I just celebrated getting married that morning, and I noted that in my reservations. Due to time conflicts, I kept changing the time of my reservation. But they were able to accommodate us when we arrived early. Because we had a large party, I already knew what to order. We placed our order in the paper slip. It look long for someone to come by and pick it up. We had to call someone to get it. The food comes out at different times. But everything was exceptional. The food was delicious! The food had good flavor and taste as was well seasoned. I love the texture of the beans we ordered, as well as the dandan noodles. It had a good bite and chew. It wasn't over cook or under cooked and the sauce has great umami flavor. One thing that was lacking was the derive. The only service we seem to receive was when we received our food. No one really came to check up on us or see if we needed drink refills or if we wanted to order anything else. And because we were celebrating our marriage, I did note that in the reservations, we didn't receive anything afterwards. [Parking]: No issues finding available parking at South Coast Plaza on weekday evenings. [Service]: Service was not exactly efficient as our waiter was a bit slow and took longer than expected. [Menu]: The restaurant is best known for its Specialty Rainbow Xiao Long Bao (aka juicy pork dumplings). Recently, the restaurant collaborated with Burritos La Palma to create Birria Xiao Long Bao for a limited time. The menu is quite similar to Din Tai Fung's menu, but some dishes are missing (e.g. beef noodle soup) and some dishes can only be found at Paradise Dynasty (e.g. cute dessert baos). *** A1 Specialty Dynasty Xiao Long Bao (8 flavors - Signature Original, Szechuan, Garlic, Cheese, Kimchi, Crab Meat with Roe, BBQ Pulled Pork, Black Truffle - $20.75): This is the rainbow XLB sampler that almost all first-time visitors order and is not exactly a sharable dish. The staff provided everyone with a sheet stating the recommended order for eating each XLB. My general impression was that the cheese flavor had a particularly strong aftertaste. I liked the crab meat and the Szechuan XLB had just enough spice to numb the taste buds without overly spicy. To my surprise, the Kimchi XLB was actually spicier than the Szechuan version. Quite shocked I've never written a review for this place. I've been "dining out" for years and have found their extensive menu incredibly good and on par with rival Din Tai Fung across the way. Located in the old Charlie Palmer location near. Bloomingdale's wing of SCP, this restaurant has easily established itself as a culinary mainstay on the property. The dumplings are legit, I've enjoyed their XLBs and dumpling soups with/out noodles and I must admit, they are ALL delicious! The broth exhibits a deep rich flavor and it feels comforting. The fried rice is fluffy, tasty, and has that perfect "fresh off the wok" flavor! Although I've never dined here I highly recommmed their food, it's high quality and Chinese food at its best. This time I ordered the Birria Xiao Long Bao from Burritos La Palma and it was so good. I love living in SoCal because we get fun fusion like Mexican food and Taiwanese food, and this was such a cool combo. The original Xiao Long Bao was also really good, as always. One of my favorites was the cold tofu. I like getting the crispy onion on the side so I can add more on top whenever I want. The ribs were also delicious, and the pork rib was super good too. We ended up coming during happy hour which was 40% off a handful of menu items and $2.99 house wine! We got sat right away! We went on a Wednesday around 4:30pm and there wasn't a line. Good thing is that if there is a long - you have a whole mall to walk through and explore/shop! The servers were so nice and quick! They provided recommendations and always checked in and made sure I had water! The restaurant is very clean and updated since it's brand new! Paradise is a dumpling house located just inside one of the Bloomingdale's entrances. It's a fairly large restaurant, clean, and modern. It was busy when we arrived but we were able to be seated right away. The staff were friendly and our server was very kind and helpful. We tried a few different dishes. The pork Xiao long bao was very tasty and soupy. The Szechuan version had an unusual flavor no don't care for it but my friend liked it. The liked the hot and sour soup had but the hot and sourness was not that evident. I probably wouldn't get it with noodles next time. I'm wondering if it toned down the flavor. We also tried the fried pork chop. It was also good flavor-wise but the oiliness made the batter a bit soggy. For dessert they had a seasonal mochi dish. It was sooo delicious. There were 2 each of black sesame and matcha mochi with walnuts and a house made honey syrup. I could have eaten a dozen. I hope they make it permanent. You know, if not for my gf's coworker who suggested we try Paradise Dynasty the next time we were down here, there's a good chance we never would've discovered this place. In part because I hadn't even heard of them until she put them on my radar, but mostly because I doubt we would've found them if not for her directions. Seriously - I never would've guessed there were so many restaurants and even a food court hidden away inside of Bloomingdale's from the rest of South Coast Mall! Having been described to us as, "similar to Din Tai Fung, but not quite the same", it didn't take us long once we stepped inside to understand the comparison. The decor is similarly modern, but darker/sleeker, and, more importantly, the menu looked just as intriguing. Much like their more well known neighbor in the mall, Paradise Dynasty also has a terrific selection of dumplings, including eight different types of xiao long bao, a variety of dim sum offerings, soups. small plates, a wide range of noodle dishes, entrees, fried rice, entrees, and desserts. They also have a solid cocktail menu as well! -- SIGNATURE ORIGINAL XIAO LONG BAO I don't know if I'd say these were perfect, but I certainly wouldn't say they're far off either. The skins were just the right thickness (stretched, but didn't tear), there was a fair amount of soup in each XLB, and the filling was oh so porky. Yum! -- CRAB MEAT WITH CRAB ROE XIAO LONG BAO This was awesome! Between the meat and the roe, each piece had a good amount of crab flavor to it yet it didn't overpower the pork in this either. -- PAN FRIED SHANGHAI KUROBUTA PORK BUN Of everything I've tried, this was probably my least favorite thing...and it was still okay. On the plus side, the filling was (almost) just as good as the Supreme Original XLB, but I wasn't a huge fan of the bun itself, as it was a bit thick/bready. -- STIR FRIED PEA SHOOTS WITH MINCED GARLIC This is far from crazy unique, but it was no less good. The pea shoots were very garlicky and, most importantly, weren't overcooked. -- NOODLE WITH MINCED PORK & MUSHROOM SAUCE I don't know if this is still offered on the menu anymore, but it was pretty decent. While it was actually a little too saucy, the noodles had a decent bounce to them and there was a fair amount of meat and mushrooms in this. -- YUZU GIMLET - Roku Gin, Choya Yuzu, and Lime Gimlets are a little hit or miss for me, but I actually thought this one was pretty decent. The pour in this wasn't too heavy, for better or worse, but I really liked the yuzu flavor. -- SPECIAL DYNASTY XAO LONG BAO (8 Flavors) - Signature Original, Szechuan, Garlic, Cheese, Kimchi, Crab Meat with Roe, BBQ Pulled Pork, Black Truffle The Signature Original, Crab Meat with Roe, and Szechuan (just a touch of heat) were our favorites. The Kimchi, Black Truffle (not too strong), and Cheese (surprisingly) were fine as well, but the Pulled Pork (more like BBQ than XLB) and Garlic were misses for me. -- PRAWN & KUROBUTA PORK WONTONS IN CHILI OIL No lie - this might be one of the best versions of this dish I've had. Not only were the wontons plump, but the filling was delicious, the skins weren't too thick nor thin, and I LOVED the taste of their chili oil. -- STIR-FRIED FRENCH BEANS WITH MINCED PORK AND PRESERVED OLIVE VEGETABLES This was awesome! The French Beans were well cooked (just slightly blistered) and there was a good ratio to the pork and preserved veggies. I also love how the dish wasn't too salty/drenched with soy sauce. -- NOODLES WITH FRIED PORK CHOP IN THICK CHICKEN SOUP The soup was flavorful, rich, and decently thick while the noodles had a nice bite to them. I do wish the pork chop had been crispier, but it was really moist and I love that it was served on the side instead of in the bowl. As good as Paradise Dynasty's food is, the service here might actually be even better. From the hostesses to the runners, everyone was so nice and friendly, but our servers really stood out, especially the one we had the first time we were here (Chloe?). Plus, not only did they make some great suggestions on what to order, but they were also really attentive, checking on us often to make sure we were doing okay. Between how good the food is and the terrific service, it's not hard to see how Paradise Dynasty has become one of my favorite restaurants in OC. On top of that, it's shockingly easy to get a table here (almost no wait for dinner on a Thursday, about ten minutes for lunch on a Saturday), which is not only uber convenient, but really underrated when compared to how long the wait is at Din Tai Fung. I love these kind of restaurants who really make all guests feel welcomed. I booked a reservation online because I was afraid it would be super busy since it is located inside South Coast Plaza. Emily is an amazing server!!! 10 stars and beyond for Emily, she was so nice and recommended all the popular dishes. Very attentive to us. originally planned to go to din tai fung on a Wednesday but when we asked for the wait, it would have been about 2 hours for me and my bf... so we opted for paradise instead as we have eaten there before. The wait for paradise was less than 5 minutes and we were greeted and sat very quickly ! The food was good, the portions and price for them were okay but nonetheless still delicious- we were very hungry. The service was okay but it seemed our server was busy so he didn't check up on us that much but it's okay because he was really nice. Ambience is also very nice . Although I do have to note that our second round of dumplings that we ordered weren't as juicy with broth as the first round. It was clear that it was a smaller portion in quality and seemed rushed to make. But I will definitely visit again in the future! I had been wanting to try Paradise Dynasty for a while, but unfortunately, it felt a bit overhyped for me. Considering this is a Singapore-based chain, I expected something more memorable. We had about a 45-minute wait, but luckily this location is connected to South Coast Plaza, so we were able to walk around and keep ourselves busy, which made the wait more manageable. For food, we ordered a side of rice ($3), the Signature Original Xiao Long Bao, Crispy Sweet & Sour Chicken, and Fried Rice with Pork Chop. Overall, the food was good, but nothing stood out as exceptional. The sweet and sour chicken had a noticeably artificial taste that took away from the dish. The fried rice and Xiao Long Bao were solid, but pretty standard, I've definitely had better. I would say that in terms of food, the options are all pretty solid choices. I think it's a great introduction to different rice, dumpling, soup dishes and everything has a great flavor. I also appreciate that none of the options, even the meat or pan fried choices were overly greasy at all. The service was really great and took this place from being a good choice to great! The staff accommodated a group of 13 on a busy Friday night and I think they really made the whole experience wonderful for a friend's birthday. Amazing as usual. Food is full of flavor, fresh, and delicious every time. Place was clean, organized, and well put together. Customer service was exceptional by Amir. He checked on us every so often to make sure we were taken care of. Amir was presentable, funny, super polite, and very attentive. We were waiting in line with no one in front of us when four other staff members saw us but we didn't acknowledge until 3 mins later. Very good Chinese food at a decent price. It's in the small 'food court' next to the Bloomingdale's store at the South Coast Plaza Mall. Parking is plentiful. There was a short wait for lunch. You sign up and wait in a short line. We were seated within 10 minutes. The ambiance is nice. Service was very good. The kitchen is open and you can see the chefs making your food. We tried their special XLB dumplings and Chow Mein. The dumplings were excellent, soft and juicy with a burst of flavor in your mouth. Highly recommend. read more

So, we ordered to our hearts content. There was so much food adorning our table, you'd think it was a royal feast. Take a looksie here! There's fried rice, a pork chop, tofu, cucumbers, and more! I love the cucumbers here. The umami they're able to achieve is crazy, and the textures? Get outta town! Great way to cleanse the palate or start your meal! The pork chop is battered well, and fried wonderfully! Tender, juicy, and pretty simple! Even the fried rice is good. It's just an easy time eating through the foods here. If you like soft tofu, that's also a must-try. But I know why you guys are here. You saw the colorful xiao long bao and you thought...what could THAT be? Well don't you worry. These old throats will tell you what's goin' on. There are 7 different kinds of xiao long bao. SEVEN! That's one for every day of the week! Gotta love it! The flavors are imaginative and very distinct! From mala, to kimchi, to truffle even, there's something for everyone, but you really should be trying all of them for yourself! Play with your food more! It's just plain fun! My personal favorite was the truffle. I'm a little boujee like that. And my favorite was (INSERT JOSH FAVORITE HERE). We came in around 5 on a Saturday evening and did have to wait for about 20 minutes for our table. However after being seated, service was great and food came fairly quickly! The interior felt almost like being at a club; had dim lighting and nice lights. We ordered the Japanese cucumbers with minced garlic and fried pork chop as our starters and I absolutely loved the cucumbers (I'm a sucker for cucumbers in general). The fried pork chop was fine although would have liked a bit more seasoning from it. We also ordered the original XLB, garlic XLB, and stir fried noodle with shredded pork. Unfortunately, the XLB did not meet our expectations as we did hope for more flavor from each of them. The stir fried noodles were fine but I did have season it myself with the soy sauce and chili. While the service was amazing, I wouldn't be too sure with coming back for the food. read more

Specialty Dynasty XLB (4/5) - The icon 8 different flavored XLBs is fun to try if it's your first time at Paradise Dynasty. My favorites were the original pork, crab meat w/ roe, and the black truffle XLBs. Prawn and Kurobuta Pork Wonton in Chili Oil (4/5) - The wontons had a great ratio of filling to wrapper. Stir-fried French Bean with Minced Pork (3/5) - The string beans were well cooked but the minced pork was on the saltier side. Wait was quite short even for weekend night. Maybe 10-20 minutes. Ordered the specialty xlb which always hits. Also ordered regular pork xlb. Had the stirfries noodles with pork which was okay but I was expecting fatter chewy noodles for chow mein. Sweet and sour fish was pretty good but not a large portion. Wontons were solid but a bit underwhelming. Cucumber really hit for me. Fried pork chop was kind of soggy to be honest. The pumpkin dessert was pretty delicious. Same with the salted egg yolk xlb. Would get again. The xlb is good but everything else today was just okay. Service is great though and kind and efficient ish. Sucks that bathroom is downstairs. read more

I enjoy coming to this establishment when I'm at South Coast Plaza! There's actually not too many sitdown places to eat at South Coast and Din Fung legit had a 3-4 hr wait and I actually preferred this place more. Bar seating usually has no wait! I just wish the service was better. The staff are all really nice. I think it's just the culture here. They only provide a thin napkin and no utensils besides a chopstick and it's hard to grab someone's attention here for basic cutleries. Things I order: -wonton and chili sauce-it's more soy based than spicy, but they do have a separate chili oil on the side at each table. -chicken dumplings-good -kung pao chicken- don't order this! Super small portion. Photos are deceiving this is by far the smallest portion I've ever received at a restaurant. -No dry soups Next time want to try their chilled tofu and vegetable spring roll. read more

We recently came back to Paradise Dynasty for a quick lunch and the staff, especially Robert, took amazing care of us! We enjoyed the Xiao Long Bao, Fried Pork Chop, Crispy Sweet and Sour Cod Fish, Stir-fried Taiwanese Cabbage with Garlic, and Wonton Soup. All of the flavors were just as good as we remembered, if not better. Robert is so friendly, positive, and hardworking - such a pleasure to be around and much appreciated.
