We love Paradise! Have yet to make it to their happy hour but someday I will! We visited on a Sunday around 11:30 am and there was no wait at all. We tried to make reservations that morning but the times were blocked out so we thought they were all sold out, but when we arrived we saw there was plenty of room. Our server greeted us very quickly and was very professional and efficient. We asked some questions on the food even though we have been here before and then ordered several items to try. We prepared our ginger and vinegar and chili oil sauces. I love when I get the whole jar of ginger because I use a lot. The chili oil flavor is so yummy, perfect amount of garlic and spice. We ordered a prosecco, crisp and not overly sweet and we got the Japanese cucumber and sweet and sour baby pork ribs to start. Main dishes we ordered the multi-colored xialongbao, walnut sweet shrimp and the chili oil wontons (I can't believe I forgot to take a photo of this dish!). The boneless Fried Pork Chop was the best I've ever had in my life. Tender, flavorful, and not overcooked. You can add it to pretty much any dish or get it as an appetizer by itself. The soups using the broth that they call the Thick Chicken Soup, have a bit of fish stock and seaweed undertones of flavor to them and they are not thick whatsoever. I didn't care for them. The Dan Dan Noodles were great with a strong peanut flavor to the sauce. You can ask for no peanuts on top if you don't like the crunch. The sauce was very runny but very flavorful. The Special Dynasty XLB is the rainbow colored flight that let's you try one of each kind. We still only liked the Original and the Black Truffle. The Szechuan has to much ginger. The BBQ Pulled Pork tasted to much like BBQ sauce. The others were fine but not our preference. The pan fried Shanghai Kurobuta Pork Buns were good. There's basically a little pork meatball inside. Paradise Dynasty has a beautiful setting, and the food quality was very good. Unfortunately, the service did not match the atmosphere. Although I had made a reservation with a specific seating request, I still had to wait quite a while. The staff confused me with another customer and initially seated me at a table that did not accommodate my request. I had to go back outside and wait even longer before eventually being seated at the correct table. The staff were also not particularly friendly throughout the process. One additional inconvenience is that the restroom is not located inside the restaurant. You have to leave the restaurant and take the escalator downstairs to access it. Tried this place for lunch, got the Pork Chop with fried rice $19.75 and the Black Truffle Xiao Long Boa $18.75. Pork Chop is lightly fried and flavorful and the fried rice with veggies and scrambled eggs is also flavorful. Xiao Long Boa didn't really stand out for me with a bland kinda taste. Service was friendly and Steve checked back with me to see if everything was ok. Place is inside Bloomingdales in the South Coast Plaza and there's plenty of seating but the restroom is downstairs and shared with the other food venues. We had an Open Table dinner reservation for 7 PM on Wednesday night. They were a little backed up according to the hostess and would seat us as soon as possible. In the meantime, we could start checking off the items we wanted to order. We were seated at 7:04 PM and our server came to the table at 7:09 PM. Hendry was our server again. Hendry took our drink orders. It was water all around with one water with no ice and a guava soda. We also gave him our order as we had it ready. We ordered for appetizers, stir-fried French beans with minced pork and preserved olive vegetables and Japanese cucumbers with minced garlic. We also ordered the signature original Xiao Long Bao, garlic Xiao Long Bao, poached vegetable and Kurobuta pork dumplings, fried rice with fried pork chop, noodles with chicken in a thick chicken soup, and the steamed Chilean sea bass fillet with supreme soya sauce. It would be a while before daughter would get her guava soda. Drinks were sitting on the counter waiting to be delivered. Surprisingly, there were a lot of people on a Wednesday night. There were quite a few big parties and part of the restaurant was sectioned off for a private event. It was noisy. Food was good as always. The sea bass fillet was perfectly cooked. I come to Paradise quite often, and the food is consistently good. The radish pastry is highly recommended, but it tends to sell out by late afternoon, so I'd suggest ordering it early. The xiaolongbao is also a must-try. Be careful with the hot soup inside--using a spoon makes it much easier to enjoy. I'd also recommend asking the servers which sauce pairs best with it, as there's a traditional way to enjoy it. The restaurant is spacious and comfortable, with plenty of seating for larger parties. They also have round tables that are great for families or groups. One thing to note is that they sometimes keep guests waiting even when there appear to be quite a few tables available, possibly due to limited staffing. The only negative thing is that their green beans are old beans meaning that they picked them too late off the bush. Haricots verts, or French green beans, should be nice and tender and delicious. These were stringy, dry, and mealy.The beans seemed like they were picked off the bush too late. Other than that, the service is great. The ambience is great. Paradise Dynasty is known for their xiao long bao. One of their most popular items are their "specialty xiao long bao", which has 8 different flavors of the juicy soup dumplings. While I enjoyed the original, black truffle, crab roe, and szechuan flavors, the other flavors were really eccentric. Cheese xiao long bao had a little American cheese in it. BBQ pulled pork tasted like BBQ sauce. Garlic had a very strong garlic oil flavor. The dumpling skins were excellent and I loved the pork and abundant soup filling. The condiments (vinegar, soy, chili oil) at our table, however, were in pretty bad shape (sticky/dirty), which wasn't the best look. We also ordered their chili oil wontons, their shanghai pan fried bao, and their sweet and sour pork rib appetizer. These were also good, but nothing special. I've been coming to Paradise Dynasty for years. Long enough to remember when there was actually a reason for the line outside. I remember beautifully folded xiao long bao with delicate skins and plenty of broth inside. I remember better fried rice with better shrimp. Cucumbers with more seasoning and less water pooling underneath them. Pork chops with a proper crispness. A richer bowl of noodles. And those ridiculous little chocolate panda buns that my kids now look forward to the kind of unnecessary detail that made you realize somebody gave a damn. That's probably why this review bothers me more than reviewing a restaurant that was never very good in the first place. Paradise Dynasty used to be good. This last visit convinced me I'm done. Even getting seated somehow became an ordeal. We were taken to a regular table despite several empty booths, so we asked whether we could wait for one. Instead of simply checking while we remained where we were, we were marched back through the restaurant with our two and four year old to the front, waited there and then were marched right back inside to one of the empty booths we'd been looking at in the first place. Fine. Annoying, but survivable. Then we met our server, Hendry. I'm naming him because I've rarely had a server so completely change my opinion of a restaurant. He tried to upsell us on additional dish we didn't want, seemed strangely inconvenienced by basic requests, disappeared once the food began arriving and never meaningfully checked on the table afterward. Getting water for two small children shouldn't require project management. Then the kitchen sent two orders of the same chili wontons instead of the wonton soup we'd ordered. We left the duplicate untouched and told Hendry we'd rather just cancel the missing soup because the meal was already dragging on. He immediately told us it was already being made. Except he hadn't checked. When I questioned how he could possibly know that, he finally went to the kitchen, returned and announced that he'd managed to cancel it as though he'd negotiated the release of a hostage rather than removed a bowl of soup that apparently hadn't been started. Meanwhile, food quality has become a shadow of what I remember. The xiao long bao still have broth inside, but the craftsmanship has deteriorated badly. The folds on ours were thick and clumsy, particularly at the pinched tops, leaving exactly the dense wad of dough you don't want on a soup dumpling. When a restaurant puts its dumpling making operation on display, the dumplings themselves become the evidence. The shrimp fried rice was pale and remarkably flat. The shrimp tasted like a substantial downgrade from what I remember. The pork chop had lost some of the crispness that used to make it worthwhile. The cucumbers arrived sitting in a watery sauce. The noodle soup I remembered as rich and satisfying felt thinner and less interesting. Nothing was completely inedible. That's almost the problem. It's all become fine in the most depressing possible sense of the word. And then came the panda. Hendry dropped our check before our children's dessert had even arrived. We were told the panda buns were being made, so we waited. And waited. Roughly another half hour passed while dirty dishes accumulated on the table and nobody seemed particularly interested in whether we needed anything. Eventually the pandas arrived. I laughed. What I remember as an adorable little panda shaped bun, something my kids were genuinely excited about, has become a generic bun with what appears to be a panda face stamped onto it. That stupid little panda somehow summed up the entire meal. The old version required a little more work. The new version technically satisfies the description. And that seems to be where Paradise Dynasty is now. What makes this especially disappointing is that the formula should be almost impossible to screw up. Soup dumplings, noodles, fried rice, pork chops, a table full of dishes for everyone to share. It's the kind of meal my family loves. We kept returning because there was a time when Paradise Dynasty executed it very well. Years later, the restaurant looks more polished while the things that brought us back feel cheaper, sloppier and less cared for. Add genuinely poor service on top of that and I can't find much reason to keep making the trip into Bloomingdale's for it. Paradise Dynasty is definitely worth eating at, especially if you're going for their happy hour. I arrived just at 2:30 for the happy hour menu, the front of house gave us a menu while we waited for the table to be prepared. It was the full menu with the happy hour choices marked in blue highlighter, and to our delight it was all the items we wanted to order. We were sat down quickly and the restaurant itself is really big and spacious, you don't feel cramped next to another table. You can see through a window into the kitchen as the chefs prepare the food. Although the happy hour menu is less than a quarter of the items on the menu, if you get a chance to go during the happy hour pricing, you won't be disappointed. We started off by ordering the radish cake, top tier item, 1 six piece order of the szechuan and garlic xiao long baos, the pork wontons in chili oil, veggie wontons in chili oil, spring rolls, sweet and sour ribs, fried rice with pork chops, and an order of dan dan noodles. Of these options the only full price item was the dan dan noodles. The happy hour menu is 40% off normal pricing and I'll tell you we made it worth wild. We also got a couple of beers which were 2.99 each and full glasses of Sapporo. Everything came out quickly, hot, and honestly all hit the spot. The garlic XLB did not lie with its name, it was a bomb of garlic, which is a plus in our book. The szechuan had a good mala flavor, definitely one I'd order again and again. It was spicy but flavorful. Not an amount of spice that just wants to kick you in the mouth just to be spicy. Both wonton dishes were great and distinct. The pork really brought out the sweet flavors of the meat itself which complimented the sauce and provided chili oil on tbe table. The veggie wontons packed alot of flavor for just veggies and again complimented sauces. The spring rolls were piping hot, crispy and just a good way to reset the palate. The pork spare ribs, much easier to eat with your hands btw, were sticky and marinated really well. The mest itself was soft and had a good char on the outside. The pork chop fried rice was probably one that I could skip the next time I go in, the fried rice was pretty standard, nothing out of the ordinary and nothing worth getting again on its own. The pork chop was super flavorful, almost like some popcorn chicken. I'd rather just order this on its own next time and get my carbs from something else. The dan dan noodles had a good blend of peanut sauce and chili oil, and was a great addition along side some of the protein options. I took a piece of ribs and ate it with the noodles. The highlight has to be the radish cake, the texture is extremely crispy and the radish itself is something I didn't think I'd like in a pastry but it's honestly so good. The bill for everything came out to just under $100 after tax and it was worth every penny. In comparison to other XLB or Chinese restaurant its up there for me. If we compare it to Din Tai, they offer a bigger menu, at a cheaper price, and honestly have better food overall. I didn't get any dessert this time, and know that Din Tai has really good dessert options but for the food overall, Paradise is much better. I particularly enjoy spicier food, and all tbe spicy options at Din Tai definitely don't hit. The spicy options here at Paradise have some kick, and the chili oil provided on the table was super good, some of the best table side oil I've had. The xiao long baos ordered this time were disappointing because the dumplings touched the bamboo steamer. When it does that, it's hard to pull it away from the bamboo. Therefore, the XLB rips and with it goes all the soup - completely decimating the soup dumpling experience. We only had one good XLB and that was the one in the center; all the others stuck to the bamboo and tore. This event was redeemed by the shrimp and pork wontons in chili oil because they were so tasty. The filling was quite airy and light - not to be confused with light in filling. Definitely the best dish I had this time. (Unfortunately, I was hoping to order the radish pastry but they ran out. THAT is the best dish Paradise Dynasty has.) [Menu]: The restaurant is best known for its Specialty Rainbow Xiao Long Bao (aka juicy pork dumplings). Recently, the restaurant collaborated with Burritos La Palma to create Birria Xiao Long Bao for a limited time. The menu is quite similar to Din Tai Fung's menu, but some dishes are missing (e.g. beef noodle soup) and some dishes can only be found at Paradise Dynasty (e.g. cute dessert baos). *** A1 Specialty Dynasty Xiao Long Bao (8 flavors - Signature Original, Szechuan, Garlic, Cheese, Kimchi, Crab Meat with Roe, BBQ Pulled Pork, Black Truffle - $20.75): This is the rainbow XLB sampler that almost all first-time visitors order and is not exactly a sharable dish. The staff provided everyone with a sheet stating the recommended order for eating each XLB. My general impression was that the cheese flavor had a particularly strong aftertaste. I liked the crab meat and the Szechuan XLB had just enough spice to numb the taste buds without overly spicy. To my surprise, the Kimchi XLB was actually spicier than the Szechuan version. Overall the XLBs tasted very experimental and were a mixed bag. Birria XLB (6 pieces - $7.99): The dipping sauce tasted like salsa with a sweet and vinegary aftertaste. It wasn't as bad as I had expected and was a solid A-tier XLB. H2. Taro Paste Xiao Long Bao (6 pieces - $7.50): Gooey taro filling with great flavor with the right level of sweetness. S-tier XLB. J6. Jasmine Tea (Hot): Pretty teapot, but the jasmine tea was brewed using one tea bag rather than loose tea leaves. F7. Fried Rice with Fried Pork Chop ($19.75): Excellent pork chop - not too greasy and the fried rice was cooked perfectly. S-tier dish. B1. Radish Pastry (3 pieces - $10.50): Ultra-flaky appetizer with a very mild flavor. Not an absolute must-order, but still a good dish. G6. Noodles with 'Dan Dan' Sauce (Spicy Sesame and Peanut - $12.50): Silky smooth noodles and not overly spicy. A very solid option. *** I think the signature rainbow XLB is a bit too experimental for my taste and I personally prefer their traditional dishes like Signature Original XLB, Taro Paste XLB, Fried Rice with Fried Pork Chop, and Dan Dan Noodles. Located at South Coast Plaza - park by Bloomingdales if you don't want a long walk! Another tip is to make a reservation (via Open Table) if you don't want a long wait or have a large group. This was my first time eating at Paradise Dynastty but it was soooo delicious, it sure won't be my last! Our FAVORITES were: --Black Truffle Xiao Long Bao --BBQ Pulled Pork Xiao Long Bao --Crab Meat with Roe Xiao Long Bao --Stir-fried French Bean w/ Minced Pork & Preserved Olive Vegetable --Taro Paste Xiao Long Bao (dessert) Also, very good that we would order again: Garlic Xiao Long Bao Cheese Xiao Long Bao Occasionally they also have seasonal Xiao Long Bao like most recently this amazing Mexican collaboration with a Birria flavored Xiao Long Bao = AMAZING! I love the unique, vibrant flavors. Everything is so flavorful and delicious I can't wait to return! The XLB was a really interesting experience because of all the different flavors and colors! I will say that there were some flavors I wasn't too fond of which was the only reason why I probably ordered it again but it's definitely fun to try. The fried rice was super moist and flavorful and definitely something I would get again. One thing though, is that when we got the package (ordered to-go) the vinegar spilled all over the boxes inside and the person helping us out did replace the bag, but did not wipe anything so everything was all wet when we took it out. We ended up spending a bunch of time wiping everything down before we actually got to enjoy and eat. It's not too big of a deal but definitely for a restaurant like Paradise Dynasty I would've thought their process and presentation would be a lot better. read more

Came through on Father's Day. Had a reservation because the wait gets crazy. Based out of Singapore. It was giving Din Tai Fung vibes. Soon as you walk in, the high ceilings and decor are straight fire. The staff is super sweet and welcoming too. Food check. Chili oil wontons are a smaller portion than DTF. But they taste super authentic. Rainbow soup dumplings were a whole vibe. Good, but maybe not the absolute BEST But that chicken soup? Literal perfection. It was the biggest surprise. The broth is so deep and out of this world. The texture is unmatched. Pork chop fried rice is another massive WIN. So much flavor. The panda lava buns are super cute. Good, but just a little too sweet for my taste. Only downside is the bathroom situation. There is no restroom inside. You gotta walk outside and downstairs in the mall.
