One of our favorite spots in Irvine. We're probably here once a week at this point. The meats are always fresh, the service is fast, and the staff is great. It still feels like a bit of a hidden gem--never overly busy when we come in. We usually get here around 5 PM when they reopen after lunch, and it's the perfect time. My daughter is a tough food critic and doesn't like a lot of places. Her rotation is pretty selective : Din Tai Fung, Sup Noodle, In-N-Out, just to name a few so the fact that Momo Paradise made her list says a lot. It definitely feels worth the money every time we come. Fresh food, great experience, consistent service. And Anderson is the man!! How did we not know about Mo Mo Paradise sooner? A friend recommended this shabu spot and told us about the Star Student promo. We were lucky enough to catch the last weekend of the deal and are so glad to discover a great new-to-us shabu spot! We got the AYCE Waygu Experience for $54.95 x 2 adults and got two kids' meals for FREE with the Star Student deal. If you know teens, they can eat like adults, so this was an amazing deal for our family of four. The AYCE experience included the waygu beef, two broths of our choice, fancy sodas, teas, bobas, jellies, and access to the salad bar. We paid for 2 adults for the Wagyu AYCE for 54.95 I believe which also included the all you can drink with teas, sodas, boba, jellies. Was able to make reservations online which was amazing. Server was nice, and we got the Wagyu option, which was $54 for 3 options of unlimited Wagyu. Their veggie bar was missing some common veggies, like spinach, and options in general was more limited than I remember. Included curry is good, but it's hard to justify this price point when there are other places with similar quality for less $. It's actually such an amazing deal because Friday lunch is $29.95 and after the discount it's less than $24 per person for AYCE meats, veggies, and more. We walked in around 11:45 and it was not too busy. It started filling up more throughout our meal. It seemed like they were understaffed with no hostess, so our server Anderson was also seating people. He was truly friendly and efficient given all the work he had to do. He took our orders, brought out everything we asked for, and checked on us many times to clear out empty plates and bring us refills of various items. The short plate was my son's favorite meat. While I liked the Chuck Eye roll because it was leaner. Both were very good in the two broths. We tried many different veggies, tofu, noodles, sauces, curry, etc from the farmers market. The restaurant is beautifully done--clean, simple décor, spacious seating, and a really nice atmosphere. Service was excellent and very attentive from start to finish. The meat quality was good, and the broths were flavorful, which made everything taste great. My only suggestion would be to offer more vegetable options. Compared to places like Shabu Shabu (or similar all-you-can-eat shabu spots), this one had a smaller selection of vegetables, seafood, and add-ons. Overall, we had a great experience. This hot pot spot replaced house of shabu shabu which was a UCI classic. Now, it's been remodeled since the fire and has a variety of small and larger tables for seating. There's also a large variety of vegetables which I really appreciated. For the menu, you can opt for the wagyu or Momo experience, one is more expensive than the other. You order the meats from your server but everything else is self serve. Our server was very attentive with the meat ordering which we appreciated. We picked the $38.95 portion and since we can order 6 platters of meat at a time, this was the easiest and most filling for a party of 3. I'm so excited Momo Paradise opened in Irvine! It's a chain Shabu place from Japan and they have it all over the world. I've had it in Taiwan and Torrance so I'm very happy it's finally closer to me. I got the Shabu Shabu broth while my kids got the tonkontsu broth. For a small additional price I upgraded to the all you can drink option which included an assortment of sodas and teas. I always get their Sukiyaki broth with egg to dip. Lunch Mo-Mo experience would be ideal bang for your buck at $38 but if you go during dinner you're looking at $50. Wagyu experience isn't needed in my opinion if you order the Short Plate which is the fatty underbelly, but if you want leaner then get the Chuck eye which is the upper shoulder. Momo is one of the latest all you can eat shabu restaurants to come to Irvine and I'm here for it. They're located in the busy 99 Ranch shopping plaza off Jeffrey so parking can be tough but at least they're on the less busy side. The restaurant is clean and simple inside. We came for their weekday lunch which is $29.95, but their dinner/weekend/holiday price is $38.95 or $54.95 for their wagyu upgrade. Like most all you can eat places, you get 90 minutes to eat. Since lunch ends at 3pm and they do last call at 2:30, they shouldn't really take reservations past 1pm but they do. We were seated right away when we arrived and got down to business! For the broth, you can choose one or two, so we chose shabu shabu and sukiyaki. All of the meat is ordered through your waiter and so is hot tea and ice cream. Everything else is self serve. During lunch they have 3 beef and 1 pork option, which isn't a lot of variety but it makes ordering easy. My favorite cuts were the short plate and chuck eye. Our waitress gave us a plate of wagyu chuck eye as an apology for forgetting our order which was nice. To be honest, the wagyu wasn't that impressive. They have a good selection of fresh veggies in their "farmers market" section. I liked their wagyu beef curry even though there wasn't a lot of beef in it. I also liked their rice machine that plops white rice out for you. The only downside to this place is that there isn't a lot of variety when it comes to the meats and they don't include drinks with your meal besides tea or water. The hot pot competition in Irvine is fierce, but Momo Paradise does provide a unique alternative from the others. As a full disclosure, I have visited the Arcadia Momo a couple of times and they were enjoyable each time. This one is no different. Although recently opened and we may have gone during soft opening, service for us was exceptional. We were made sure that we were never low on our meats. In fact, I would say the quality of the meats here is top 3 for me compare to the other hot pot / shabu establishments nearby. You can't go wrong, just order all to try. What I do enjoy about Momo is their curry rice. As we waited for our broth to boil, the curry rice was the perfect go to, savory and full of flavor. Although the vege selection is definitely more limited compare to some others, they have the essentials. If you add the drink option, they also have, among sodas and other tea, a matcha latte, for all the matcha lovers out there. I've been a longtime fan of the MoMo Paradise in Rowland Heights, so I was pretty excited when they finally opened a location here in Irvine. They took over the former space that used to be Shabu Shabu House and Hometown Restaurant (one of my go-to Taiwanese spots), so even though it's a bummer to see those restaurants gone, I'm glad it's been replaced with a brand that I am already a fan of. And thankfully, the MoMo quality that other locations are known for are still present at this new spot. This is an AYCE shabu shabu spot with a 90-minute dining limit, and you get two different options for dinner: the MoMo Experience ($38.95), which includes a selection of beef and pork cuts, or the Wagyu Experience ($54.95), which adds more premium wagyu beef options. (I'm pretty sure the Rowland location used to offer additional options like chicken at one point, but it looks like that may have been phased out with their updated menu). The meat quality is excellent...everything is sliced thin for optimal shabu cooking so it cooks quickly and stays tender. Like most places of this nature, you order meats through your server, while all the veggies, noodles, and other add-ins are self-serve at their "Farmer's Market." And if you're feeling indecisive about what broth to pick, you can choose up to two (the lineup includes shabu shabu, sukiyaki, tonkotsu, and tomato). My go-to combo is usually shabu shabu and sukiyaki as it allows me to go back-and-forth between something a little more clean and light vs the sweeter taste the sukiyaki provides. She is very knowledgeable and all the dishes and gave us great recommendations on which items and which sauce is to pair with. My husband and I got the tonkatsu soup base as well as the sukiyaki soup base. Both are absolutely fresh and quite tasty. As for the protein we got AYCE chuck eye, short plate, eye of round, and kurobota pork shoulder. The chuck eye was absolutely my favorite. Lean with a bit of fat. My husband likes the kurobota pork shoulder. We also added the AYCE drink for around $3.50 and it was fun to make your own drinks. My husband mixed Tokyo melon and Lemon Lime and it tasted just like our melon drinks from Japan. I opted for the Oolong passion fruit tea with a scoop of lychee jelly. YUM! The side bar includes veggies, tofu, corn, leafy greens, pumpkin, and various fish or pork meatballs. All delicious. Taylor even recommended the Wagyu beef curry over rice. Cool thing is their fresh rice dispenser where you can select how many grams of rice you want to have. Their free range pasteurized egg was delicious. Nice creamy yolk that dip your cooked protein in. Absolutely made the meat even more tender and creamy to enjoy. There's also dipping sauces such as gomu and ponzu. I'm my opinion just dipping the meat in tonkotsu soup was already flavorful enough. Our overall dining experience was 90 minutes and it was quite good. Taylor did an excellent job in making sure our dining experience was top notch and also checked in on us frequently to ensure we had plenty of protein and soup during our meal. Although the meat selection and vegetable bar don't give you an overwhelming amount of variety like some other AYCE places, their standard offerings of beef are better quality than a lot of places. The chuck eye in particular is tender and meaty, and most shabu diners will be happy with this cut. Although there are fancier shabu restaurants offering all kind of dry aged wagyu and others offering a huge bar filled with a variety of hot food, MoMo keeps it simple and does actual shabu shabu well.
