    Roti Paratha

Came here last night with the fam in search of a place we've never tried before. It did not disappoint. The kids enjoyed it as well, and believe me, they rarely try new dishes. Though being Filipino, the dishes seemed very familiar. ROTI PARATHA - Flaky and buttery bread paired with a light yellow curry dip. The perfect intro for the meal. Could use another piece...or maybe my kids just ate it too fast. LUMPIA - Well-balanced ratio of vegetable, noodles and flaky wrapper. Came out piping hot and actually stayed hot (probably has to do with the way they served it--sliced in half and placed upside down on the plate). The tamarind sauce is decent. Could bring it up a notch.) THE #8 NASI BUNGKUS - Perfect for the undecided. A very tender and moist chicken curry, beef rendang, sambal egg and vegetable curry. Slighly picky note on the string bean, maybe remove the fibrous string along the seam. BIHUN GORENG - Perfectly cooked thin rice noodle with a well-balance flavor mixed with chicken, egg and vegetables. Kids loved it! BEEF RENDANG - Absolutely fantastic. The melt in your mouth beef cooked in an elaborate curry paste balanced with the perfectly cooked potatoes was the star. Overall ambience was great. Comfortable seating and tasteful mural balanced with some tropical plants added to the overall vibe. Parking was a bit of a challange, but I was able to find street parking (Sunday night). It was probably because of the bar next door. The bathroom could use some maintenance. Service was good. Staff was attentive and very informative and helpful throughout the service.

Food and vibe were great but service was just ok. We went on a friday and the place was packed. We ordered a bunch of plates and they were all good. The chicken curry was my favorite followed by their pad see ew. The mei tek noodles had a unique flavor that I didn't fully love as much as people on Yelp had said. Don't skip the roti for an appetizer- that was also really delicious!

It's been over 10 years since my last visit and I'm glad to say, the food is still amazing. I went here on Friday night at 7pm with reservations. We were unfortunately seated at the very back corner table so it was a bit uncomfortable and not very spacious. Service was quick and the food came out fast. Roti Paratha: so delicious. The flatbread is so buttery and perfected when dipped in the curry sauce. Lumpia: these came out piping hot! It's nothing special but it was good Nasi Bungkus: this is a fun experience having this dish served in a banana leaf and you have the fun of opening and unwrapping it. Hainanese Chicken Rice: the chicken is so moist and juicy and this dish was really tasty! Rendang: easily my fave. The beef is cooked till tender and it's so good with the coconut sauce Coconut Rice: highly recommended! It's a subtle coconut flavor but paired with the food, it's so good! Parking here is terrible to we took a Waymo here, although our Waymo almost got us into an accident when it got confused. ‍

Both Simpang locations are awesome. I slightly prefer this palms location. The interior is less metallic and decorated with warmer colors. It's an instrumental player in creating a chill and homey good food energy field (joining forces is Madre across the street which makes brilliant fish taco). Bali Sea Bass is 10/10 amazing. Sweet chili sauce further moisturizes the already tenderly grilled fillet. Herbs on top balances overall flavor profile while providing an exotic experience. Beef rendang and chicken curry are less memorable. The meat is just a touch drier. But the alternative is to drive 40min to the eastern side, so we are still quite happy with what we have. Parking is easy and organized and surprisingly free!

Evvvvvery once and again I get to sneak away from my best friend, Hubs, and try something non-diner, non-Italian, non-pub grub. When I have a friend that says, 'Indonesian food? I've never tried it.' then it off to Simpang Asia!!!! I've been coming here since they were just a small market with delicious "street food" that reminded me of trips to Singapore, Malaysia and, of COURSE, Indonesia. S.A. is the real deal and I'm so happy they have grown to the beautiful restaurant they have now. The decor is tropical in the most elevated way. Dishes are simple and SO flavorful. Today I introduced my friend to SOME of my fave dishes - it's SO HARD to not over order! FIRST - before ANYTHING ELSE happens - the Lemper: sweet rice wrapped around shredded coconut chicken. I could eat this ALLLL DAY! The sweetness of the rice balances perfectly with the tender chicken. Next it was the Sea Bass. Perfectly grilled in banana leaves then covered with an intimidating looking Balinese style sambal chili sauce. But it's more flavorful than hot and that's what I love about the dishes here. Order the shrimp "chips" to dip in the sambal sauce so you don't miss a drop. We also ordered the traditional, can't miss, Char Kway Teow. This is what I used to get around 2am, after drinking and dancing and HUNGRY! A street vendor usually would prepare it with the protein he had that day. At Simpang Asia, the lovely wide rice noodles come with pieces of chicken sausage, fish balls, shrimp in a sauce with chili , some sprouts and an mixed in egg. It always hits the spot and is comfort food at its best. Not only is everything aromatic and flavorful, but the presentation is beautiful. Each dish is usually presented with a beautiful leaf and/or a lovely orchid. Thoughtfully presented and delicious. Simpang Asia and its wonderful staff just make me happy to dine here. Don't forget the Es Cendol to drink! Coconut milk and palm sugar hold little, bright green jellied pandan, that hold just a hint of vanilla. The ladies at the table next to us, already done with their meals, started eyeing ours. When they asked us about everything, I gleefully went into each description. 'Do you work here?' they laughed. Nope! Just a big fan. They then ordered the Lemper and an Es Cendol to share. Isn't food amazing the way it brings people together and spread joy?!? Thanks, again, Simpang Asia! I truly look forward to any chance I get to enjoy your delicious dishes. Cheers! "CC"

We wanted something a little different and that would have a lot of flavor - Simpang Asia met the mark! We had a reservation on a Sunday evening for 5 people. Got there a few minster because of traffic and challenging parking, but only had to wait a couple of minutes. The staff was terrific and very attentive throughout. The appetizers, rice and noodles were all delicious. The mains were okay but not nearly as good. We loved the roti paratha, siomay Bandung (not sure why they don't recommend for people not used to Indonesian food - the peanut sauce is amazing), nasi goreng, and char kway teow. Of the mains, the sea bass was good but the beef rendang and garlic chicken didn't have the complexity of flavors that everything else had. Still though, there are so many great dishes here that we will be back.

Fantastic food and warm, attentive service. There's outdoor seating available, which is a nice option -- though parking can be a bit tricky, so plan ahead. Almost everything we tried was packed with flavor and had a unique twist. If you're a fan of spicy food, this place definitely delivers. Highly recommend trying the #8 Nasi Bungkus, Char Kway Teow, and Nasi Goreng Jawa -- all were standouts!

Parking out front is limited -- we had to wait a bit for a spot. That said, we went for lunch and the restaurant itself wasn't busy, so we were seated right away. The interior is nice, clean, and has a relaxed vibe. It's comfortable without feeling overdone. Our server was attentive, friendly, and helpful when we had questions about the menu. We shared the Roti Paratha and Lumpia to start. I ordered the Char Kway Teow noodles, and my partner had a fried rice dish. Everything was well presented and genuinely delicious. The Roti Paratha and the Char Kway Teow were standouts for me. Portions were generous without being overwhelming -- just the right amount for lunch.

LA is crawling with Thai, Japanese, Indian, Korean, and Chinese restaurants but I can't say I've come across an Indonesian restaurant before which makes this place unique. Simpang Asia was recommended to me by a friend and I'm so happy I tried it out. We made a reservation through Yelp and they also have a waitlist during peak times. Once we arrived we were seated right away and served quickly. Overall Ambiance is also nice inside, but if you're okay with more chill they also have seating outside off to the side of the parking. The food is really good and fresh. My husband and I came with friends and everyone really enjoyed their food. We ordered Roti as an appetizer. It was definitely on the small side and one dish was really only enough for 2 people. The curry dipping sauce it came with was very flavorful and we saved it for later. For our entrees I got the Mie Ayam which is essentially garlic noodles - awesome dish with a nice balance of veggies, starch and protein :) My husband got Nasi Bungkus which was the first meal listed under their traditional section. The presentation was cool - the chicken came wrapped up and it was a ton of food. We also ordered the Black Rice Pudding for dessert - super yummy and I'd come again for it. Side note the parking is really limited in this area. It took us a couple of laps around the block to find a spot so it's better if you can come at an off time.

Simpang Asia is a classic Indonesian food. Been coming here for years and the flavor is still so so good. I do notice some prices are a bit on the higher side. Other than that, service is still as good as before and there are valet available. We are allowed to park at the parking lot for free. The restroom area A/C is very cold.

This is the first Indonesian restaurant that I've tried, and I highly recommend! Food is very flavorful with good portions and an affordable price point. You won't find liquor on the menu, but they offer natural wines, beer/cider, soju, and cocktails made with soju.

My friend saw this place on TikTok and wanted to give this a try. I've had my fair share of SEA cuisine and this place is good but I don't think it's worth the drive for me. Service was good but later on as we asked for a box, they didn't provide a bag to go along. It seems that the servers forgot but they were also chatting behind the bar. So that left me with an unimpressive feeling. Parking was a pain on a Friday night around 7pm; spots are limited since it's shared with other businesses.

    Nasi Goreng Jagger
    Ali I.

Everything was really good here and the flavors were on point. One of the best things I've eaten in a while. Food is halal! Nasi goreng jagger - I love spicy so the 3 chiles made me have to try. This is very spicy. You definitely need to order some kind of meat or veggie on the side to accompany it. It's more of a side dish or a shareable than a main just because it's so spicy. I took the other half home to cut it with regular white rice lmao. It's not unbearable if you like spicy but if you don't eat really spicy things usually I would pass. Grilled fish - tasty and the tamarind sauce it came with was super good. Not my fav compared to the other two dishes but still good. Rames - This dish lets you sample a few things. Again the flavors here were so good. Everything on the plate - chicken, noodles, rendang and green bean - were full of flavor. The rendang curry was soo good. I also tried their es cendol drink. Personally not my thing because I don't think sweet drinks. It tastes like a Vietnamese coffee without the coffee but with burnt brown sugar. It was good but too sweet for me. I love pandan but the jelly was very lightly flavored. If you like sweet condensed milk drinks go for it. I will definitely be back to try more of their noodles and curries. Parking is very limited.

I think I saw this place pop up on my social media which is how I got on my radar. I signed up for the newsletter and did a pre-order when they did a pop-up. I don't have a lot of experience with Bali/ Indonesian food, but this was such a fun, novel experience and the food was really tasty. I ordered nasi bungkus, the kueh lapis, and the es cendol. From their website, the nasi bungus contained the following. STEAMED RICE Fragrant lemongrass rice made with coconut milk, pandan leaves, and galangal SAYUR URAB Long bean and bean sprout dish with toasted coconut and kencur COCONUT CHICKEN CURRY Pasture-raised chicken, slow-cooked for six hours MOTHER-IN-LAW EGG Hard-boiled egg marinated in tamari and topped with chili paste TEMPE OREK Fried soy bean cake in a sweet and spicy glaze SAMBAL GORENG Spicy Thai chilies, shallots, and garlic, fried and finished with coarse salt KACANG BALI Bali-style salted peanuts ABON BABI Traditional dried pork garnish The kueh lapis is a fun colorful, coconutty dessert that is nice, thick and chewy. The cendol is a nice desserty drink made of coconut milk, pandan jelly, red bean, and diced jackfruit. The drink reminds me of something similar in the Vietnamese culture. I was a fan. The desert was beautiful as well, and had such a fun look to it. I like the chewiness, and it was fun the peel the layers. The nasi bungkus itself was a nice combination of flavors and textures. I bought some of that chili stuff in a jar and added some extra on top. I liked that there was a kick, but not so much where I started sweating. The spice was a nice level. I got a little excited and ordered a lot of food and was totally full by the time I finished my items. Pick up itself was really easy. After you pre-order early in the week when they do a pop-up, there's a time window where you pick up - and in this case it was Friday afternoon - night. When I got there, they were friendly, and just directed me towards the counter, where they did final prep to give me my food. They even gave me some reheating instructions just in case. Super friendly and you can tell they put a lot of care into their product. I hope they have all the success in the world and would like to order from them again.

I went there thinking I'm just going to buy 2 items max. Wrong! This place, unlike many places around the area takes credit cards. There goes all my money! Lol. I ended up with a basketful of food. I just couldn't help it. I ate them, not all, as soon as I got home and each one of them was delicious and authentic. I know this will be a stop for me whenever I visit LA. They're just that good.

They really keep the authenticity and quality at a high level. The food is amazing and every dish we have tried has been consistently good. It can get a little pricey if you order a bunch of dishes with a group but it is completely worth it for the quality you are getting. One nice bonus is their loyalty program. If you spend over 50 dollars they give you a stamp card and once you collect ten stamps you get around 20 dollars off or a free dish. Definitely a good incentive to keep coming back. If you are looking for authentic Indonesian food in the Rosemead area I honestly do not think there is a better option than Medan Kitchen. Highly recommend giving it a try.

Nice, reasonably priced Indonesian dishes. Had a chicken rice dish with appetizers and it didn't…read morebreak the bank. Never really had the banana leaf wrapped rice before so it was a treat. The rice was flavorful along side the well cooked meat. It came with an egg, spicy peanuts, and a coquette. You can order at the counter or at the table. Though, if you're unfamiliar, it's worth it to ask the staff for details especially for the items listed on the daily special since there's no descriptor on those. The place also serves as a mini grocery for Indonesian items if you want to make it at home. It does give homely vibes with a sense of community. Will definitely come back to try the other dishes like the satay. Fun fact, they were part of the original food court but now have their own space.

They serve authentic Indonesian foods that remind me of Jakarta. Today I was really craving Ayam Goreng Kremes, because it's been many years since the last time I had it. Nasi Ayam Kremes is a combination of Indonesian style fried chicken, white rice, perkedel (fried potato pattie), fried tofu, fried tempeh, and sayur asem soup. The chicken is deep fried after it's been cooked in herbs and fully marinated. Very flavorful as I can really taste the different herbs and spices. Over the fried chicken is a generous serving of savory crunchy crumbs. There's also a side of medium spicy house sambal. I would recommend adding some kecap manis (Indonesian sweet soy sauce) and use this as dipping sauce. The half fried chicken is rather small, about the size of a Cornish hen. The soup is pretty good, even though I am not a fan of sayur asem soup. This tamarind-based soup contains green beans, chayote, corn rounds, and peanuts. The deep fried marinated tofu and tempeh are so yummy! They truly remind me of the good ol' days living in Indonesia, as they are the staple foods of the locals. The perkedel is just passable, possibly because it is served cold. Unfortunately, it isn't as crispy as it should be. The restaurant is small. Other than the kitchen crew, only one person was doing all the work. Good and very friendly service. My order did take a long time, however. If you're in a rush, you may want to eat somewhere else. Indo Bistro is the place where you really want to "santai" which means relax, take it easy. Indo Bistro is an Indonesian restaurant, mini-mart hybrid. They sell a variety of pre-packaged Indonesian snacks, shelf stable groceries, and also freshly-made market snacks, such as pastel, lemper, bakcang, rempeyek, etc. I also tried their savory snack Lemper, which is sticky rice stuffed with shredded chicken that's been cooked in coconut milk. After it is wrapped in fresh banana leaf, it is then char-grilled. Their lemper is really good, but very greasy. It's basically food and lip gloss in one. BOGO Lol Next time when I'm craving more Indonesian food, I'll be coming back to Indo Bistro. They have really good chicken satays.
