If you are in LA and craving authentic Indonesian cuisine and snacks, this is the place to visit. Having started during the COVID era by a lady and grown immensely popular, it has become a staple for me every time I'm in town. Whether you're looking to dine in or grab something to go, they offer a complete range of familiar Indonesian dishes. The "Grab & Go" Advantage: What sets this place apart from other Indonesian restaurants in the LA area is the convenience. You don't have to wait for an order to be prepared; you can simply grab what you need and go. The only real wait you'll encounter is the queue to pay, which can get long during peak hours! The Food: Most of the food is prepared fresh in-store daily (typically Thursday through Sunday), with some items sourced from other quality food vendors. Favorites: I highly recommend the Nasi Bungkus and the Lontong Sayur. The portions are very generous. Pro-Tip: The small rice platters are perfect for a single, satisfying meal. The Experience: While the flavors are authentic, the consistency can occasionally vary. In terms of pricing, it has been trending higher. You'll find a great selection of Indonesian snacks, spices, and instant noodles here as well. A Note on Pricing: While some imported goods are priced quite high compared to what you'd find in Indonesia, I understand this is likely due to rising shipping costs rather than profit margins. Some items are very reasonable, while others might feel a bit outside the "logical" price range--I usually just stick to my favorites! Overall: A wonderful, fresh, and convenient spot for anyone missing a true taste of home. I'll definitely be back on my next LA trip. you just feel like you are in Indonesia.

Since my boyfriend is Indonesian, we drove an hour just to come to this market so he could get some of his favorite dishes he's been missing in OC. When we walked in, we were greeted with a bustling atmosphere with so many grab & go items, snacks, drinks, and more. The meals we got were so so delicious and it was my first time having Indonesian food and I loved it. I couldn't tell you the names of all the dishes but everything we got to eat there and to take home was an absolute hit. While sitting outside enjoying our meal, the owner was standing nearby and enjoying seeing everyone enjoy their food. I could tell she was looking at us for a bit and eventually left and came back out with a piece of beef rendang on a banana leaf to hand to my boyfriend. SO CUTE!! Loved this place so much and we'll definitely be coming back to try more. Lovely welcoming service who treat you like family!

Stopped by on Friday, 08/29/25 for the first time. My boyfriend recommended this place and wanted me to bring some food home for my mom who was born and raised in Indonesia - so this is the perfect place to bring 'home away from home', back to home! This place is huge! I purchased the following to go: - 1 Bakmie / Bihun Ayam = $14 - 1 Fried Rice / Nasi Goreng = $14 - 1 Gorengan Singkong Goreng = $9 - 1 Jajan Pasar MK - Otak-Otak = $12 - 1 Sido Muncul Tolak - Angin Permen Herbal Peppermint Lozenges = $2 TOTAL (INCLUDING TAX (9.5%) = $4.25) = $51 The food was a bit pricey but worth it since this was made in-house and the authenticity is off the chain! My mom was really happy and loved it! :) I will make sure to come back next time and bring my mom with me.

Medan Kitchen is a well-known spot amongst my Indonesian friends; I had to try it, but... at an unpopular time... because getting here is tedious here during rush hour, and parking here is atrocious on the weekends... (iykyk) The menu is on the window, but the interior features thin aisles. Upon walking in, I was surprised that it wasn't a restaurant but instead a small market that had prepared food to-go. Everything looked freshly prepared, and in fact even picking out the Nasi Padang that I wanted, I noticed it was lukewarm. The staff noticed that this was my first time and were quick to jump in and help with paying and even warming up our food. Eventually, I ate at the tables outside. Need a drink? Water is self-serve, but of course being a market, there's also the option of Indonesian drinks and snacks in addition to the main meal. Inside the Nasi Padang, I enjoyed the beef rendang, chicken curry, and green chili. The spice was just right, and there was a generous amount of luscious rice. Filling? Yes! This could easily be two meals for some, and if treated like fast food, it'd be priced competitively! Impressively, hardboiled eggs are my least favorite form of egg, but... I tolerated the ones here. Yes, I'd gladly stuff another! (If only I had the stomach space for a second Nasi Padang, though...) Thankfully, they're to-go, so a second had to be taken to-go!

I've been wanting to try Medan Kitchen for a while and finally went on a Saturday afternoon. It was quick crowded, which is a good sign, but manageable. All the food items are neatly prepacked and clearly labeled in both Indonesian and English. There is an overwhelming selections of snacks, sweets, full meals, noodles and soup. Food is room temperature but perks up and taste fresh when heated. This is the perfect spot for food adventurers. Be warned that some dishes are quite spicy and with the massive selection, you can easily find yourself spending $100. Staff is friendly and happy to assist. There are tables immediately outside for those who want to eat right away. Fun exploration. I'll be back to try more new dishes.

    Nasi Lemak

Medan Kitchen is an Indonesian market with several tables containing ready to go food. There's plenty of turnover, so the items are restocked frequently. Walk the aisles and grab whatever tickles your fancy. Nasi Lemak: Nasi lemak is a fragrant rice dish cooked in coconut milk and pandan, and wrapped in a banana leaf. This bundle has fried chicken and beef rendang, accompanied with fried anchovies, peanuts, sliced cucumbers, fried shallots, hard-boiled eggs, and sambal. There are fried potato matchsticks that are crispy and thin. Dining Area: There are half a dozen tables out front. Parking: The strip mall has a large lot with a couple rows of spots.

We've been here a few times. Its a nicely sized Indonesian mom and pop shop that offers a variety of Indonesian pre-packaged meals, snacks/candies, and desserts up front when you walk in. The meals are stacked and ready to grab and go which is what I usually come for. Its definitely worth coming here because the food is tasty and its fairly priced. Very filling and delicious. Parking could be tricky because the plaza has many businesses and the lot is small.

Finally got a chance to try this long bookmarked restaurant due to their Thurdays-Sunday only opening hours. Their service is excellent, if you don't see a ready packed plate on the tables you can always check with them. If they still have available items they will gladly pack it for you on the spot. I came here for their anchovy and peanut, it's always made to perfection. Once you start, you just can't put them down until you devour the whole thing. My second favorite is their maktabak, although it's super sweet, but hey! Sometimes you just need some sweetness for a bitter day. Only outdoor seating at this place, but plenty of parking at the plaza.

This place is a grocery store selling authentic Indonesian food, snacks, and drinks. They have prepackaged meals that can be taken to go or enjoyed there. They have microwaves and utensils as well as some outdoor seating. The food is absolutely amazing, so delicious and authentic. Indonesian food is packed with flavor and combines lots of different ingredients. The staff are super friendly and generous. They helped us heat up the food and gave lots of great suggestions. It is super busy and crowded for good reason.

Some of the best Indonesian food I've ever had! This eatery operates like a grocery store. While there are grocery items to choose from, they're mainly known for their wide selection of pre-made meals. There's a lot of meal combos which I like and there's detailed explanations on each of the meals of what each combo consists of. I ended up getting the Nasi Kuning Kumplit and it was delicious. There was good variety from a marinated egg to braised chicken over tempeh. I loved the Tumeric rice with the crispy topping and the beef rendang. I also got this crispy stuffed tofu which was great and the pastels which were also great. To drink I got the cendol and I loved the tropical and coconutty flavors of the drink/dessert. Lastly, I got the martabak which was amazing. It was like a thick pancake that was buttery, cheesy, chocolatey, and moist. Everything I had was amazing and I would come here once a week if I could. Parking can be a bit of a hassle since the lot and the surrounding lots tend to be busy depending on the time of day.

Very authentic Indonesian food and supermarket. If you time it right, go there when they just pack the food. Food would be warm that way. They have 2 microwaves for you to heat up the food. The supermarket has many Indonesian items that you can't find easily elsewhere. Strongly recommend the chendol. Yummm

This spot came highly recommended from my Indonesian friend and it got his seal of approval for authenticity. We ordered a feast via UberEats during our stay in LA, and I could tell how excited he was as he kept refreshing the app, eagerly awaiting the delivery to our Airbnb.. While this was a takeout only experience review, (hopefully next time we'll get to checkout the market) the to-go experience was impressive. I applaud them for packaging everything with care with these large bags and boxes, shows a real attention to detail. The food itself was pretty good. The fragrant rice, tender chicken and beef, and even the fish cake stood out with bold flavors. The Mango dessert was light and refreshing, although I wasn't a big fan of the sauce. We had food for 2-3 meals in our time and it was easy to heat up the leftovers. Overall, a flavorful and satisfying to go experience and definitely worth trying if you're in LA and craving Indo comfort food. Also check out their IG page and order ahead when it opens because certain items can run out.

The curry broth was creamy, spicy, and packed with flavor. It came with shrimp, fish cake, tofu, egg, corn, bean sprouts, and noodles, so there was a lot in that bowl. There was actually an error with our order, but our server was so apologetic and immediately had the kitchen remake it. We didn't ask or complain, she just wanted to make it right. Really appreciated that. The Nasi Campur was great too. Rice with BBQ pork, Chinese sausage, fried chicken, and egg. Lots of different flavors on one plate and good if you want to try a little bit of everything. Roti Prata is always hard for me to pass up. Crispy and flaky on the outside, chewy inside, and that curry sauce they give you for dipping is so good. We finished that pretty quickly. Good food and even better service. Mistakes happen, especially at restaurants. How they handle them matters more to me, and our server handled ours perfectly. Would definitely come back.

Food came out quickly and was quite good. Singapore Laksa (6/10) - the curry was rather thin and lacking in flavor but maybe that's because it's intended to be more of a soup. I would've preferred rice on the side instead of rice noodles. Next time I would get the actual curry instead of this, but that is just personal preference Roti (8/10) - probably the best thing we had. It was simple but very delicious, flakey and decadent. The curry sauce was much thicker and paired along well, giving a sweet and mildly spicy flavor Nasi Campur (7/10) - the first bite was delicious, but gradually became more monotonous after each bite. I think the ratio of fried chicken thigh to the sausage and cha siu was slightly off, adding to the repetitive nature of the dish. Overall, it was still quite good

While I was grabbing my food from this establishment, I asked if they had any special offers and they weren't offering any at the moment. They currently don't have happy hour. They also do not allow pets in their establishment UNLESS it's a service animal. Parking: The parking lot for this establishment is pretty big since they share a parking lot with many other establishments. The parking spot sizes vary depending on where you park. There shouldn't be any issues finding a spot. Food: I ordered an Indonesian fried rice and pork satay skewers with rice. The Indonesian fried rice was really delicious. The Indonesian fried rice had some greens, eggs, garlic, dried shallots, dried onions, raw onions, green onion, chicken, and meatball. All cooked to perfection. There were a good amount of chicken and meatballs in the dish. Both were soft, juicy, tender, and full of flavors. I love that the hot rice was slightly crunchy. It reminded me of eating rice from a hot stone bowl. For the pork satay skewers, I was lowkey disappointed that they didn't have lamb this time. I originally ordered lamb satay skewers, but they told me they didn't have it so they asked me to order a different satay skewer. I opted for pork satay skewers. This dish normally comes with rice cakes, but I'm not a fan of the texture of rice cakes, so I asked them to give me plain white rice instead. They happily obliged and gave me a bowl of white hot and steaming white rice along with 5 pork satay skewers. The marinade for the pork satay skewers had hints of garlic, lemon, honey, sweet soy sauce, and peanut sauce. An extremely delicious marinade for the pork satay skewers. The grilled pork itself was very aromatic, tender, juicy, and flavorful. So incredibly umami! A good portion for the price point for both dishes. I do agree with other Yelpers that I felt extremely thirsty after eating both dishes. Perhaps they need to tone it down a bit on the MSG. Staff: The staff here are very friendly, happy, welcoming, and helpful. They accept both cash and credit cards. There is no credit card minimum. Also, right when you walk into the restaurant, there is a very cute and small market. You can get some delicious Indonesian snacks and other things while you wait for your food. I highly recommend coming here and giving this lovely mom and pop Indonesian restaurant a try. Sooooo fricken good!

I would hope a well run business had contingencies such as a back up generator and/or an additional battery. Also, I would assume a well run business would know their inventory and to give guests in line a warning PRIOR to waiting up to over an hour that they may run out of food. Further, if something goes wrong because of poor planning, I would fully expect the business to take accountability and offer the customer an incentive such as a discount at time of purchase or a gift card or something to make things right. We ordered and people AFTER us began getting their orders. Mind you, they ran out of tofu so all the orders were chicken plates so they were all the same. We complained that people AFTER us were getting orders before us and all the workers seemed confused and overwhelmed. We waited 30 minutes to finally get our orders and the chicken was COLD, BURNT, DRY and had NO flavor. The rice was between cold and warm. We didn't get any shrimp chips because they ran out. So we paid FULL PRICE and didn't get what's supposed to be included in the plate. If I wasn't starving and didn't wait 2.5 hours to get our food, I'd return it and demand a refund. The entire experience with LA SATAY was EXTREMELY UNSATISFACTORY. The lack of organization, customer service and food quality was so VERY poor. The male owner posted a video the morning of the Indonesian Night Market and said his "lifestyle" affects his product and his services. Recipe is from his Grandmother and he takes a lot of pride in what he does. He wanted to serve the "best product tonight". I left a short and polite review on the comment section and they deleted it. I doubt their Grandmother would approve of serving customers cold food, poor business management and poor customer service. This is not the type of service I was expecting from the Indonesian culture and they lacked empathy, grace, pride, generosity and the desire to please. I would NOT recommend eating at an LA SATAY tent. Choose another vendor.

There seems to only be one server so things can take some time but otherwise, the service is good! It's located in a small strip mall with relatively easy parking but some spots can be a bit tight. The interior is simple but definitely "mom and pop" vibes. We ordered Fried Ogo Squash, Paratha with Peas, and Tea Leaf Salad for starters and Prawn Curry and Gravy Rice as mains dishes. All the starters were delicious choices and, although the paratha was a little oily, it went super well with the peas and curry. The prawn curry was a flavor explosion with the prawns being perfectly cooked and the gravy rice was packed with veggies and a good amount of gravy. Some people in our party are vegetarian and everything besides the prawn curry were good choices for them. For desserts and drinks, we ordered RC Trio Delight, Smashed Strawberry Drink, and Rangoon Milk Tea. The RC Trio was a little on the sweet side but refreshing and the smashed strawberry was a delicious yogurt drink filled with strawberry. The Rangoon milk tea is delicious and a not too sweet option. 10/10 would recommend. Already thinking about the next time we come back.
