So, so good! This plate was gone in 5 minutes!

When you want good satay you just know Satay LA is where to find it! I am so happy Satay LA has re-opened since the whole Covid shutdown and is now serving locally in Chinatown! As a true Indo girl, eating satay was a real treat growing up because my parents only made it on special occasions. If you're a true Indo, you'll know why....there is so much involved in making that "special ingredient" and marinating the meat to make each skewer so flavorful! Trust me, Ian has definitely mastered it! Each bite you take is so mouthwatering, the meat is super tender and the peanut sauce...holy heck, I want to lick the container clean! If you're craving some real, authentic Indonesian satay, then Satay LA is where it's at!

Got food while enjoying a lazy, Thursday afternoon at Monkish Brewery patio in Torrance. Satay set-up a table (not a food truck) around 4 pm, and were ready to go on-time. It was well staffed, and the food is cooked to order so will take 10-15 minutes after paying (using a pager to let us know to pick up the food). It wasn't dinner time yet, so decided to order something to snack on with our very high alcohol content beers. Pretty focused menu: pork or chicken or tofu skewers. We ordered the pork plate: 4 skewers with 3 pieces of protein each, scoop of jasmine rice, vegetable salad with curry dressing, some cucumber slices, and some shrimp chips with peanut dipping sauce, for $14. All was good...really loved the marinade on the skewers, and it was cooked beautifully. The taste and presentation reminded me more of Filipino BBQ than Thai Satays...makes us want to try other Indonesian grilled meats. We would absolutely order from Satay LA again if we see them, and would get two of the 'A La Carte' (just protein and rice)...one plate was absolutely not enough for the two of us, even as a snack. Really delicious.

Pork saté with white rice and cabbage slaw! Don't forget to load up on their peanut sauce and sambal!

I love Satay LA, truly! I can't say enough good things about it! I'm part Indonesian and have grown up eating saté my entire life, so I was super excited to try their saté! And honestly, after my first visit I was hooked! I've probably been 5 times and each time they had new, exciting items added to their menu! Take my advice and try them all! The pork saté is my favorite! And the chicken is almost just as good! I've even tried their vegan tofu saté and the flavor matches their transitional saté perfectly! Their nasi goreng with fried egg is UNREAL, I almost died after the first bite! Don't miss it! Omg and the absolute star of the show is their PEANUT SAUCE! I could drink it you guys, it's so tangy and good! I literally drench my entire plate in it And if you're looking for a sweet, dessert treat, PLEASE try the cendol! It's like boba mixed with an icee and full of sweet flavor! I could honestly probably drink 10 if my body would let me! Their sides are also fabulous, I love the krupuk (shrimp crackers) and the amazing cabbage slaw they have! Please please please try everything they have to offer! You won't regret it! I'm going to continue going back and I hope to see you there!

The Indonesian foods are very delicious and pretty fulfilling! I order their Chicken Satay Plate including their soft Satay Tacos for the outdoor dining around at 6 pm and they all tastes really amazing along with their delicious homemade peanut dipping sauces! I highly recommend getting their chickens over their porks honestly because the chickens are more comfortable to eat!! They also provide me some glasses of water as well. The service is definitely fast and friendly! If you guys haven't tried this place already you guys are really missing out. I will be back again! Thank you so much Ian and Stephanie for everything!! Keep up the great work!

Amazing food on a great night. I enjoyed the taste. Little skewers with bacon rice and some krupuk Indonesian shrimp chips (which are super tasty). The rice was super good, and a good size serving. So glad they were serving tonight at Progress on main. Definitely looking forward to coming back here for the food.

    Nasi is delicious !!

They serve authentic Indonesian foods that remind me of Jakarta. Today I was really craving Ayam Goreng Kremes, because it's been many years since the last time I had it. Nasi Ayam Kremes is a combination of Indonesian style fried chicken, white rice, perkedel (fried potato pattie), fried tofu, fried tempeh, and sayur asem soup. The chicken is deep fried after it's been cooked in herbs and fully marinated. Very flavorful as I can really taste the different herbs and spices. Over the fried chicken is a generous serving of savory crunchy crumbs. There's also a side of medium spicy house sambal. I would recommend adding some kecap manis (Indonesian sweet soy sauce) and use this as dipping sauce. The half fried chicken is rather small, about the size of a Cornish hen. The soup is pretty good, even though I am not a fan of sayur asem soup. This tamarind-based soup contains green beans, chayote, corn rounds, and peanuts. The deep fried marinated tofu and tempeh are so yummy! They truly remind me of the good ol' days living in Indonesia, as they are the staple foods of the locals. The perkedel is just passable, possibly because it is served cold. Unfortunately, it isn't as crispy as it should be. The restaurant is small. Other than the kitchen crew, only one person was doing all the work. Good and very friendly service. My order did take a long time, however. If you're in a rush, you may want to eat somewhere else. Indo Bistro is the place where you really want to "santai" which means relax, take it easy. Indo Bistro is an Indonesian restaurant, mini-mart hybrid. They sell a variety of pre-packaged Indonesian snacks, shelf stable groceries, and also freshly-made market snacks, such as pastel, lemper, bakcang, rempeyek, etc. I also tried their savory snack Lemper, which is sticky rice stuffed with shredded chicken that's been cooked in coconut milk. After it is wrapped in fresh banana leaf, it is then char-grilled. Their lemper is really good, but very greasy. It's basically food and lip gloss in one. BOGO Lol Next time when I'm craving more Indonesian food, I'll be coming back to Indo Bistro. They have really good chicken satays.

The staff also wears gloves when handling food. There are some hand sanitizers available for customers to use. This place is available for take outs and has some indoor seating available with limited capacity. They are sanitizing / cleaning in between customers. I mention these things in my reviews for the sake of protecting immunocompromised people like the elderly and people sick with cancer and other illnesses. COVID-19 Vaccination Proof: This establishment currently does not require proof of vaccination. While I was grabbing my food from this establishment, I asked if they had any special offers and they weren't offering any at the moment. They currently don't have happy hour. They also do not allow pets in their establishment UNLESS it's a service animal. Parking: The parking lot for this establishment is pretty big since they share a parking lot with many other establishments. The parking spot sizes vary depending on where you park. There shouldn't be any issues finding a spot. Food: I ordered an Indonesian fried rice and pork satay skewers with rice. The Indonesian fried rice was really delicious. The Indonesian fried rice had some greens, eggs, garlic, dried shallots, dried onions, raw onions, green onion, chicken, and meatball. All cooked to perfection. There were a good amount of chicken and meatballs in the dish. Both were soft, juicy, tender, and full of flavors. I love that the hot rice was slightly crunchy. It reminded me of eating rice from a hot stone bowl. For the pork satay skewers, I was lowkey disappointed that they didn't have lamb this time. I originally ordered lamb satay skewers, but they told me they didn't have it so they asked me to order a different satay skewer. I opted for pork satay skewers. This dish normally comes with rice cakes, but I'm not a fan of the texture of rice cakes, so I asked them to give me plain white rice instead. They happily obliged and gave me a bowl of white hot and steaming white rice along with 5 pork satay skewers. The marinade for the pork satay skewers had hints of garlic, lemon, honey, sweet soy sauce, and peanut sauce. An extremely delicious marinade for the pork satay skewers. The grilled pork itself was very aromatic, tender, juicy, and flavorful. So incredibly umami! A good portion for the price point for both dishes. I do agree with other Yelpers that I felt extremely thirsty after eating both dishes. Perhaps they need to tone it down a bit on the MSG. Staff: The staff here are very friendly, happy, welcoming, and helpful. They accept both cash and credit cards. There is no credit card minimum. Also, right when you walk into the restaurant, there is a very cute and small market. You can get some delicious Indonesian snacks and other things while you wait for your food. I highly recommend coming here and giving this lovely mom and pop Indonesian restaurant a try. Sooooo fricken good!
