Nice, reasonably priced Indonesian dishes. Had a chicken rice dish with appetizers and it didn't break the bank. Never really had the banana leaf wrapped rice before so it was a treat. The rice was flavorful along side the well cooked meat. It came with an egg, spicy peanuts, and a coquette. You can order at the counter or at the table. Though, if you're unfamiliar, it's worth it to ask the staff for details especially for the items listed on the daily special since there's no descriptor on those. The place also serves as a mini grocery for Indonesian items if you want to make it at home. It does give homely vibes with a sense of community. In Los Angeles, Indonesian restaurants are few and far between, therefore, finding a good one has been a challenge. Indo Bistro is definitely one of the betters ones. They serve authentic Indonesian foods that remind me of Jakarta. Today I was really craving Ayam Goreng Kremes, because it's been many years since the last time I had it. Nasi Ayam Kremes is a combination of Indonesian style fried chicken, white rice, perkedel (fried potato pattie), fried tofu, fried tempeh, and sayur asem soup. The chicken is deep fried after it's been cooked in herbs and fully marinated. Very flavorful as I can really taste the different herbs and spices. Over the fried chicken is a generous serving of savory crunchy crumbs. There's also a side of medium spicy house sambal. I would recommend adding some kecap manis (Indonesian sweet soy sauce) and use this as dipping sauce. The half fried chicken is rather small, about the size of a Cornish hen. The soup is pretty good, even though I am not a fan of sayur asem soup. This tamarind-based soup contains green beans, chayote, corn rounds, and peanuts. The deep fried marinated tofu and tempeh are so yummy! They truly remind me of the good ol' days living in Indonesia, as they are the staple foods of the locals. The perkedel is just passable, possibly because it is served cold. Unfortunately, it isn't as crispy as it should be. The restaurant is small. Other than the kitchen crew, only one person was doing all the work. Good and very friendly service. My order did take a long time, however. If you're in a rush, you may want to eat somewhere else. Indo Bistro is the place where you really want to "santai" which means relax, take it easy. Indo Bistro is an Indonesian restaurant, mini-mart hybrid. Took my mama here on a weekday after work, I was craving some Kwe Tiauw. Went in and was greeted by a lovely lady at the counter. Here, you order at the front and find a seat where they will serve you. I ordered the Kwe Tiauw and it was very tasty, they give you sambal and some krupuk to have on the side. I'm from Indo and I have to say this is the BEST Indo food in socal! Still kind of not as popular as Borneo in alhambra but Indo Bistro deserves the same popularity. Their dishes even better than the same dishes in Indo. My favorites are the bakso (beef meatball), nasi kuning (yellow rice), and nasi bungkus padang (padang rice). Mie ayam jamur (noodle with minced chicken and mushroom) and ikan bakar (grilled fish) also delicious too. I honestly cant think of any dishes thats not good here. For drinks, I always get soda gembira (happy soda) or es doger. Seatings are plenty inside and parking is in the same plaza as Haven City but I never have a hard time looking for a spot. I think the price is fair and maybe even on the cheaper side. Lots of foreign restaurants charge over $18 for a dish. Since Indo dishes are also foreign dishes requiring special skill and ingredients, priced at $12-16 is considered fair to me. read more

We requested meat only for the soto betawi because I don't eat tripe. The meat is a little bit hard to chew but they're very generous with the amount of beef in the soup. The mi goreng jawa is ok, slightly sweet but not as dry as we expect it to be. Service is very good, we were served cold water as soon as we're seated at the table. We ate here yesterday and tried the chicken satay and pork skewers based on a friend's recommendation. The food was tasty, and the peanut sauce was also really good. However, we were disappointed to see food orders left open on the tables with flies landing on them--and no one seemed to address it. When we went, the owners and workers were busy fulfilling a catering order so perhaps they didn't notice us come in and awkwardly stand to the side. Other people were standing around as well, and it looked like they were waiting for their to-go orders. A bulk of the space is taken up by Asian products on shelves. So I guess this is a restaurant and a mini-grocery in one. We ordered the nasi bugkung padang and the nasi kuning. I preferred the latter as it was beef slathered in sauce on top of rice. So delicious. The bugkung panang was on the dry side and didn't have that much meat it in. It was flavorful though. They handed us glasses, utensils and our own water container. But the spout of the water container was a little bit dirty. I had to wipe it down myself. I'm sure this was an oversight. Perhaps because their clientele mostly orders canned drinks. All in all, this is a good place to eat at in a pinch. You have to be patient though, as they speak little English, so they won't be able to answer a lot of questions with detail, such as whether or not a dish is more sweet than savory, for example. Nasi Bungkus Padang Stewed beef and chicken with rice and came wrapped in a banana leaf. The chili sauce that came with it was spicy but delicious. I am not sure if you can buy/request more chili sauce because it would go well with everything else. Mie goreng Jawa Delicious stir fried eggs noodles. Comes with a side of hot sauce that packs some heat. Sate Kambing w/rice cakes Lamb satay that comes with some peanut sauce and chili sauce. Initially I wanted to try the chicken satay but got the lamb instead to try something different. I thought the meat was a bit tough and had some fatty parts that were hard to chew through. The flavor was good but I would try a different satay next time. I didn't know if it would be good with the rice cakes so I ordered it. Rice cakes reminded me of overcooked rice pressed together. The rice cakes wouldn't soak up any of the juices as expected so it tasted pretty bland. I would opt out of the rice cakes next time. Batagor Fried tofu with meat was different from what I expected. Yum! Not only am I glad to find more indo food in the area, but I am even happier that they actually make delicious food. Nice to know that people who come here and try indonesian food will get a nice representation of the food. And nice representation of the people too; the ladies who work here are nice. I'd like to share my disappointment with the service I received during my recent visit to your restaurant. When I sat down, the table was not clean, so I politely asked an employee (with very short hair) for napkins to clean it myself. Instead of helping, she told me to move to another table. I ended up getting napkins from my car and cleaned the table myself. Later, she came to take our order and brought a wet towel, wiping only the side of the table without checking whether it had already been cleaned by us. The food was great, but the poor attitude and lack of basic courtesy significantly affected my experience. I had planned to order more food to take home, but I lost interest and didn't even take my leftovers or order the sweet drink I usually enjoy.
