    Mango Sticky Rice (Seasonal) /
    Boris C.

The food was delicious, ribs were tender, noodles were cooked just right. The service was also great, not overbearing so it was just right. It is a nice location for going for lunch. There was very light music so if you want a quieter place, this is the one. Especially liked the mango ice dessert, it is not too sweet for the rice and just sweet enough for the mango.

If only they handed out stamp card for this place! Because that's how much I love their food! My family and I come here all the time. We used to drive out to Thai town or Thai temple, but now we have a good Thai restaurant in the neighborhood! We've had quite a few dishes from them. Thai fried rice, Tom yum soup, pork jerky, panang curry, drunken noodles, Thai sausage, papaya salad and it's all delicious! Don't be afraid to ask for your food to be spicy! We literally almost get everything almost spicy! But one thing I have to say! They deep fry their Thai sausages and it's BOMB! This is the only spot I know that does this. It's a must try! Overall, they're always nice, good to us and fast service. I will always come back!

Large sitting area with good lunch specials. Their sticky rice and pork are my niece and nephews FAVORITE, they are always asking for more and can finish their own portion - KIDDO APPROVED.

I haven't been here in a long time while I was on my way home. I passed this place!! I had to go in! The food is high-quality and delicious! I always get pad Thai, but I replace it with glass noodles because it's low-carb! The flavor of the pad Thai is amazing! I'm not sure what seasoning they use, but this is the best pad Thai I have ever eaten! The waitress is very sweet and you're welcoming! The ambience is really cute and the prices are very reasonable! I recommend you on a date here!

This is the 2nd location of Tantawan, with the other being in West Covina. It's hard to believe they're the same restaurant. The decor in this location is lacking and dull. The service is mediocre as I have to remind them we need utensils, water ... etc. the staff doesn't seem to be too excited being here. The food here isn't as good as the other location either. The dishes we got on our past visits all lacked that Thai spice and flavor. It's very one dimensional. I have to go ask for condiments and peppers, only to be given 1 small to-go container of pepper, while I saw another table with 4 glass jars of various condiments. I really like Tantawan, but not this location at all. For me, it's worth the drive to West Covina for better, friendlier and more attentive service and way tastier food.

This is a hidden spot that Thai people in SGV stop by as their regular Thai restaurant in the neighborhood! I've been coming here for years and all the time I've noticed other tables are Thai like me. They just don't post anything like it has become their regular schedule. Well food here is always authentic, maybe just what I get all the time. The taste has never changed! Food comes quick and the service is also attentive!

Sashimi Shrimp / and Pork Jerky /

Garlic Peppercorn spareribs - 3/5 - flavor was not strong enough sashimi shrimp 2/5 - sauce was good but the shrimp didn't taste fresh. Pork jerky 4/5 Pad Thai 3/5 - leaning on the sweet side Chicken satay 3/5 Thai boat noodle 2/5 - I've tried this at their store and delivered through postmate, and both instances scored 2/5. They charge an extra $2 as of the time of this review for everything like liver, tripe, and tendon. Food overall - it's not bad, offers a lot of shareable options Service 4/5 - friendly service

Boat noodle with beef and liver, Rad Na with gravy and chicken, blue crab and papaya salad
    Jessica A.

We ordered 4 dishes and all were very flavorful and satisfying! Boat noodle broth is rich and full of meaty flavor. Not all places offer Thai boat noodle with liver as an added option for $2 extra. Some places come with it or some don't have it at all. I like that they have the option. It really gave the soup flavor an extra boost in my opinion but even without liver would've been great! Papaya salad with blue crab was amazing at medium spicy level. The crab here is the most lump and plush crab I've had in all papaya salad dishes I've ordered so far from anywhere. Most places that list blue crab on the menu just have tiny claws or mini crabs. We also got Rad Na chicken with gravy and a chili chicken lunch special. Lunch special was good but portion a little small. Maybe because rice was served in a bowl and chicken on a small plate alone. It felt like it should've included an egg roll or something additional. Will be back for the Thai boat noodle and papaya salad again!

This place was great especially for Thai food in the SGV area. We got the Atlantic crab fried rice. Southern curry noodle and Tay jew noodle dish. They were all flavorful, good amount of meat and worth the cost. The staff was very attentive and nice and it's nice to have a go to spot for Thai food in the SGV area. The place was very quiet and not too loud and lots of other places nearby for dessert or coffee.

    Chicken Satay /

this place tastes like authentic thai food i had back in thailand. their pad thai is one of the best i've had in LA -- very flavorful, full of sauce, and with perfectly chewy noodles beef salad was a letdown though. the beef was very chewy and the sauce was too sour chicken skewer was great, with large pieces of chicken and what tasted like a homemade peanut sauce overall a solid spot for thai food. they also had menu items you don't usually see at most thai restaurants. will be back to try thos ~parking: free parking available in lot ~service: friendly service

Back here for lunch with the coworkers. Looks like they redid their menus; there's a lot more pictures to look at now! Food was just as good and the wait was not too bad. This time, we ordered: - Chicken Satay Appetizer (with dipping sauce. Chicken was a little dry but flavorful) - Tantawan Fried Rice (tasty) - Drunken Flaming Noodles (yummy with a kick) - Pad See You Noodles (yummy with a bit of sweetness)

Fish Cake $12.95 - order it!

What We Ordered: -Jerky Jerky $12.95 -Fish Cake $12.95 -BBQ Pork Rice $14.95 -Pad Kee Mao w/Beef $14.95 We're still in the market for the best Thai spot in SGV. I saw that my friend Cindy S. came here and that her Thai mother approved of the food here. I had to try it out for myself. The Pork Jerky Jerky was alright. It was very dry and we wouldn't order it again. The wife ordered the BBQ Pork Rice because she likes Crispy Pork Belly. Stubborn woman that she is. She had to order it. I told her not to deviate from traditional Thai dishes and sure enough she was left disappointed in the end. The Crispy Pork Belly was too crispy. It didn't have the proper texture. Don't order this dish! The Pad Kee Mao was pretty solid. It was much better than the one we had at Thai Paradise in MPK. We would order it again here! We thought that Fish Cake was lovely! The wife and I devoured real quick. This was the clear winner of the meal. Honestly, I would rate the food a 3.5/5. I will round up to 4 as I gave Thai Paradise a 3 and the food here was a little better. I don't think we would be in a rush to come back here, but you wouldn't have to twist our arm to come back either. This place is more of a take-out spot. I wouldn't eat-in again. The service was attentive, but the ambiance and dining room is rather dingy. We're still on the look out for a solid Thai spot in the SGV. If you know of any, please DM me!

    Thai Boat Noodle
    Ken D.

I'd heard a lot of great things about this spot but was always hesitant to try it out since it's in El Monte and let's be real, the Thai food scene around here isn't exactly known for being top-tier. But on a random Saturday, I came here with two of my buddies, still recovering from the night before and seriously craving some kind of comforting soup. We ended up trying the boat noodles, and honestly? They were fire. I've had boat noodles in Thai Town and Long Beach, and this place held its own. The broth was super flavorful, the noodles were cooked just right, and they didn't skimp on the meat either. We also ordered the mango sticky rice which is usually a safe bet at any Thai restaurant and it didn't disappoint. I actually liked that it wasn't drowning in coconut milk; it made it feel a little lighter and more balanced. The service was fast and efficient nothing over the top, but it got the job done. Overall, it's one of those lowkey local spots that hits the mark when you're in the mood for solid Thai food or just happen to be in the area. Definitely worth a visit.

And onto the Khai soi; the crunch noodles and the soft noodles and mixed with all the mustard greens and red onion and the count curry sauce : all in one bite what a wonderful sensation of sweet, sour, spicy and the crunchy texture was welcoming and memorable. The curry had that hint of coconut that mellowed out the boldness of the curry. The restaurant was tiny and in this case definitely cozy. We joined their waitlist on their tablet near their counter and we were seated within 5 minutes. Just like the other location in Rowland Heights, it's very busy on a Friday night! The restaurant overall is very clean except near the entrance due to high foot traffic. It's decorated with Chinese lanterns, cherry blossom, and bamboo trees placed in the middle of the restaurant. It almost felt like I was dining at a high end restaurant. It's significantly smaller than the other location, but the high ceilings give it a spacious atmosphere. There are plenty tables and booths. Be aware the booths do move easily when you get out of your seat. We were sat in the booth closest to their entrance which I didn't mind at first, but after a while the high foot traffic was distracting (maybe they could place a divider between the waiting area and the booth). Onto the food, pricing, and service: portion is generous and they are more affordable than the Rowland Height's location. I ordered the Bbq Chicken Fried Rice. Chicken was juicy and flavorful. It was easy to take off the bone. The fried rice was light, flavorful, and cooked perfectly. I couldn't finish my plate (even though I wanted to) so I boxed the rest to take home. My husband got the Continental Fried Rice. A dish Banana Bay is well-known for. The chicken skin was crispy, the fried egg was yolky in the center, the sausages were soft, and the fried rice was consistent with my plate's. Service was great and the staff was attentive even during their peak hours. I gained a sense of relief when more than one waitress checked in on us periodically. Overall, my husband and I had a great first impression. We're already talking about coming back in the near future. If you're looking for a Thai spot where you can order a plateful of food at an affordable price, this one is it!

I can't not complain about the food, the food is amazing and cooked perfect. The one huge thing…read morethat made this whole experience extremely horrible and unforgettable was the service, or lack of service for better explanation. And I have strongly feeling, we were discriminated because we were not of Asian ethnicity and because we were Latino. When we sat down it took them about 20 minutes to receive the menus, and another 20 to get water while at the same time every other table was being tended to multiple times. When I would raise my hand for service the "employees" who worked there would just look at me with my raised hand and continue to ignore me. When we ordered our food after almost 30 minutes of just sitting there, this Asian woman who refused to give me her name , came to our table and just took the chili sauce tray from our table and said "I'm going to use this for the other table since you guys don't have food, and I'll bring you one later." I said that was fine since we were still waiting on our food. 20 minutes later passed, and our food comes out. I asked the nice Asian gentleman who brought our food if I can get forks and spoons, since he didn't bring any to us. And he completely ignored me and walked away. So we had to sit there with our food with no utensils and no chili tray. I tried to get the attention of the Asian woman who took our chili tray so we can get one since our food arrived and the same Asian women server completely ignored me the whole time and only attended to her side of the restaurant. I don't understand the whole lack of customer service to people who clearly are not Asian, the ambiance felt off and you could totally feel the discrimination and different kind of treatment received. So after 10 minutes of just waiting for our utensils or for someone to come approach me after I've been flagging them down with my hands, I had to get up and go to the front desk and asked if someone could help us cause everyone is ignoring us. When I said that to the young lady at the front desk, she had someone come out immediately to finally give us utensils and our chili that was removed from our table. Not even 10 minutes after we started eating. A different asian woman waiter, who was not our waiter from earlier approached us and asked us "if you guys need to order more food do it it now cause we are about to close and needs to be ordered to go." I find it ironic that she only came to us to let us know that they were closing soon, but the other patrons who obviously were of Asian orientation were left alone. They brought us our check while we were still eating. It was obvious that they were rushing us out after the dreadful, abysmal, subpar service we received. Never have I been treated differently from the rest of the patrons in a restaurant, and I find it sad because I've been going to Banana Bay in Rowland Heights since 2010 and have NEVER received this kind of service. This will be my last time I support this restaurant and anyone who is Latino or any other different race for that matter, be warned.

I really enjoyed the texture of the fish roe on top of the fried rice - I've never had something like this before. I also ordered the truffle wok seared noodles with beef (I liked the mushrooms in this dish). For dessert, I had the Vietnamese coffee flan and the pink mekong. I loved the presentation of the pink Mekong, and the various fruits were yummy. As for the atmosphere, it was very cozy and I took a lot of nice photos in the front of the restaurant by the pond. This restaurant would be perfect for a romantic date night or a lunch with the girls. The service was great - everything was very timely and detail-oriented. Everyone was kind and attentive, I felt very welcome.

I was able to find metered parking on the street; not sure why but I didn't need to pay that day! Upon arriving, we were fortunate that there was no wait time and got seated right away. Their menu was quite extensive so we took some time to browse before we ordered. They had a main menu and also a special menu. We pointed out some allergies to the staff and he helped us work around it. The orders came out quickly and he checked in on us frequently to see if we were okay. Great service! Bakka Wild Salmon - This salmon had a lot of things going on for it, in a good way! The combination of flavors felt very refreshing, especially on a hot day. The lime and basil was played a big part there. Crispy Short Rib with Lime - Even initially before coming here, this was the dish that caught our attention. I will admit the portion size was a bit smaller than I expected and was even skeptical when it came out. However, without a doubt, this was the highlight of the visit. As someone that loves savory foods, this really hit the spot. The burst of flavors settles in right away. Truffle Wok Seared Noodles - We wanted to pick this noodle dish as a balance to the protein dishes. It did its job but it tasted okay. Not something that stood out. Slow-Drip Vietnam Coffee Flan - I liked the caramel that was layered on the flan, it was crunchy and added a nice texture. It was a nice presentation but tasted okay. Thai Tea - This was my personal drink. It was a standard Thai tea but came with ice cream on top. It was not too sweet but didn't stand out compared to other items. Strawberry Pandan Lemonade - This was my girlfriend's drink. I had a small sip here but found it was refreshing and not too sweet. However, I didn't really get any pandan flavor, mainly strawberry. When it all comes together, it was a good experience. The interior of the story is more dimly lit and felt like a romantic night dinner, despite being the middle of the day. The dishes had a balance of standard and hidden gems. Everything was more than sufficient for two people to share. Service was great and very attentive. Will come back for the Crispy Short Ribs! American Express is accepted here.

Trusted my friend's rec and went for lunch on a Sunday. Parking is fairly easy as it shares a parking lot with the big plaza nearby. Immediately when I walked in I noticed that the place could use a bit of revamping, maybe some decorations. Overall, the food was enjoyable and I would be back for a quick lunch spot that serves solid chicken rice. Half fried/half grilled high on chicken rice, 8.5/10: both the grilled and fried chicken were hot and crispy. The chicken was cooked well and nicely seasoned. I thought the chicken could use a tad bit of salt though. The soup it came with was piping hot and accompanied the rice and chicken well. The rice itself could have used a bit more seasoning and chicken fat in my opinion. The sauce it came with were great especially the ginger sauce that added the fresh complexity that the dish desperately needed. Adding onto that, I think I could use some vegetables on the side. The tamarind and sweet chili sauce were great. I could also use some chilli. The perfect generous portion of food.

I also used to bring all my friends here to eat bc I love their half and half chicken plates (steamed and grilled) with papaya salad and soup. I used to order the crying tiger too but sometimes it gets overcooked and tastes gummy. I still eat here but i guess i get annoyed that they want to charge 99 cents for each extra ginger. I can eat their ginger sauce with rice. That's how much I like the ginger sauce. So now I just switch out all the sauces they give me for extra ginger sauce.
