    Cozy vibes!
    Hannah S.

Thai Purple has always been one of our fave Thai restaurants in the SGV - they have the BEST crab rangoon around, we've loved almost everything we've tried over the years, the staff are always warm and welcoming, it's a great location, and the prices are consistently decent for the area.  Their curries are always fresh and tasty - they have all your typical Thai curry varieties (green, red, yellow and others - and you can adjust your spice level), they use fresh veggies, and their meats are good quality. They have great lunch specials that include an excellent veggie soup and the curries come with a generous amount of rice.  Their pad see ew is also another winner here. Perfect consistency in the noodles, a delectable sauce, and the veggies are tender and delicious. It's my go-to dish here when I'm not in the mood for curry.  I also love their tea varieties! On our last visit I tried their red date tea - it's brewed with longons (similar to lychees) and red dates - it's got an incredible flavor and is the perfect amount of sweet. A great dessert option if you want something lighter - and it's caffeine free so it's a nice post-dinner drink. I'd come back here just for this lol. I love the vibes too - it's very cozy and warm - like eating at an auntie's house lol. Plenty of tables but also booths too and they have a nice fish tank at the front entrance. The location is perfect for a date night - they're right across the street from the movie theater in the main part of Alhambra. We used to come all the time when we lived closer years ago and were happy to see that they're still going strong after all this time!  They have plenty of free parking in the garage located in the back and a back entrance right across from it. The area is very walkable - definitely a great option in Alhambra!

I came here with my girlfriend for a Friday girl's night out dinner. We were seated at a booth, the decor is very Thai and authentic. The ambiance here is always good, the server, Ae, was very helpful and attentive, bringing us our drinks and food as soon as it was cooked. The restaurant got busier during the evening, but there were some available tables. The menu is very good, we picked a salad, soup, appetizer and main dish with two bowls of rice. It was more than enough, we had a little box of one dish for leftovers. The parking structure is in the back, but we came early enough to snag the available parking right behind the restaurant. The restaurant has available food delivery for the local area, and it also has plenty of lunch specials if you come with your friends or family during the lunch hour. I would check this place out, either for a lunch or a dinner with your family or friends, or for a date, they serve several flavorful tea drinks as well as a delicious menu that is sure to please Thai food lovers.

I haven't been to Thai Purple for years, and it's one of my favorite Thai restaurants in Alhambra. They have a very relaxing ambiance, and they still have cute and modern decor inside. When you came in through the rear entrance, you had to walk up to the front. I took my mom to Thai Purple last weekend, and we ordered the Crab Meat Cheese Rangoon ($10.95), Pad Thai ($14.95), and a pork chow mein from the lunch special ($10.99). Lunch Specials are served every day except holidays, and they have many selections. We love the cream cheese rangoon; it was very delicious and served with plum sauce. Pad Thai noodles consisted of chicken meat, 2 shrimp, egg, green onion, bean sprouts, and were served with sweet tamarind sauce and crushed peanuts. The flavor was on point, and the portion was great. Even the simple pork chow mein dish that my mom ordered tasted good. The service was great, and the staff were friendly. I should go back there more often because they have been in business for so many years that I have forgotten about them.

I was so excited to try this spot because my boyfriend used to come here when he was a kid and I LOVEEE! Everything was delicious, made fresh and everyone who works here is just so sweet. Service was so fast! The vibe inside is very comfy feeling. I will definitely be coming back with my family and friends. My boyfriend and I shared... -Pad Thai with shrimp -Fish cakes -Thai fried rice -Wonton Soup -little sesame balls The portions are great, you'll definitely have some to take home if leftovers are your thing (we are leftover people so we always order extra lol). They didn't have the mango sticky rice available this time around but I'm sooo excited to visit again soon to try it!! Definitely give them a visit!

Had a good lunch with family, the food was flavorful and lots of variety to pick up, the portion was just right. Our favorite item was the Lemon Fish, not only did it come out with the WOW presentation, the fish was fresh, the sizzling plate kept boiling, and the lemon aroma was flowing around the table. The a-ok item was the seafood soup, it had some seafood but not even enough for four people and was more like a mushroom tam yam soup, I would skip that and get something new for our next visit!

What's up: Lunchtime with the coworkers! We decided to grab Thai and found this place after doing a quick search on Yelp. Parking: There's a parking structure nearby that's right off N 1st Street and W Main St. From there, you can access the restaurant's rear entrance. Environment: We came in through the rear entrance and walked up to the front. The staff seated us quickly and provided menus for us to browse. We decided to go with the lunch special and there were several options to choose from. Staff members were friendly. What was ordered: - Lunch Combo Set: Green Curry with Pork, Thai Fried Pork Ribs, Rice, Iced Thai Tea (yummy creamy curry) - Lunch Combo Set: Mint Leaf Chicken, Thai BBQ Chicken, Rice, Iced Thai Tea (Chicken was a bit dry) - Lunch Combo Set: Mongolian Beef, Fried Tofu, Rice, Iced Thai Tea (tasty beef) Yay/Nay/Meh: Yay. The food was yummy and was just enough to hit the spot. The Thai Tea was delicious as well and it was not overly sweet while still being flavorful; they also have a less sweet option too. Credit cards are accepted with a minimum of $20 transaction and a maximum of 2 cards per table.

The food was not great. I really wanted to live this place. Also the service was okay.

The restaurant is really cute in the inside and very relaxing, my son loved the aquarium. This is my first time here, and love to try new food options for Thai food. I had to try some of their avocado roles. Ordered some curry and pad-see-ew. It was a lot of food and so delicious. Staff is really friendly and helpful. Coming back to try the young coconut rice

    Pad Thai Orange Chicken

The food was great. I had the orange chicken with rice and Pad Thai. The chicken was crispy. The pad Thai was to die for. Ae was wonderful with my date and I. Very cozy spot in Alhambra. I'd recommend going there than the other spots in the area

    Missing steamed rice
    Katelyn K.

I stopped by to pick up my to go orders. I was able to get credit back from the missing steamed rice and claimed free pad Thai from the restaurant, as promised by the owner's review. I greatly appreciate the gesture and attention to detail. I received all the items ordered. The older lady I encountered said I didn't need to write a review on Yelp about it. But that is my choice. I always ask for condiment sauce and honestly it's like pulling teeth to get sauces for to go orders. Again, just stating my experience here. Greatly appreciated.

I moved to the SGV a little over a year ago and I have been sorely disappointed by offerings this nook of LA county has to offer *ahem banana bay*. I found myself driving to the SFV or Thai Town whenever I was too lazy to cook Thai food on my own. I decided to take a gamble with this restaurant and I am so very glad that I did. It's so good and authentic that I have come out of yelp retirement (Yelp Elite 2016-2020) to leave this review. I ordered four things as take out: Issan Sausage, Pad Kra Pow Minced Chicken, Spicy Fried Crispy Cat Fish, and Drunken Noodles. I was told that they were out of the Kra Pow Century Egg and stewed pork leg over rice. Hopefully, I'll get to try it next time! Issan Sausage: Good portions. Flavor is very good, a little sour, a little salty, and a hint of sweetness. I think the flavors could be a bit more bold with the sour but overall the flavors profile is as it should be. Frying it also added a nice crispiness to it. Spicy Fried crispy Catfish: Flavors were really good. Sweet foods is typically not usually in my flavor profile, but this is one of the few sweet entrees I actually like. Catfish can be a bit more fried but that is moreso a preference on my part. Drunken Noodle Beef: Good char on the noodles. Flavor was really good as well. Not that much beef but the star of the show are the noodles. I was a tad confused on the egg in my drunken noodle but to each their own. I would probably order it without the egg next time because it does change the texture a bit. Pad Kra Pow Minced Chicken: Now here's where it gets interesting! Tantawan actually uses holy basil (Kra Pow). It's harder to find but it has a very distinct flavor that Thai-American cuisine has for the most part substituted due to scarcity with Thai Basil (Horapha). I don't think you can get more authentic than actually using the right herb. Funnily enough, I think it can throw off people that have never had authentic Kra Pow as my partner said it tasted herbally. Thai food can be very hit and miss even among the Thai community as we all have different preferences when it comes to the holy trinity of sweet, salty, and sour. I am personally on the spectrum of sweet should be hinted at and never the forward flavor. Tantawan with the dishes I ordered definitely held to my flavor profile. Very well cooked and good flavor profile. I didn't have to add any seasoning as everything was cooked just right. I called my take out in and they said it would be ready in 20 and it was when I arrived. Even as the food sat in my passenger seat as I drove home I could tell from the smell emanating from the take-out bag that the food was going to be good. Quick and courteous service!

We joined their waitlist on their tablet near their counter and we were seated within 5 minutes. Just like the other location in Rowland Heights, it's very busy on a Friday night! The restaurant overall is very clean except near the entrance due to high foot traffic. It's decorated with Chinese lanterns, cherry blossom, and bamboo trees placed in the middle of the restaurant. It almost felt like I was dining at a high end restaurant. It's significantly smaller than the other location, but the high ceilings give it a spacious atmosphere. There are plenty tables and booths. Be aware the booths do move easily when you get out of your seat. We were sat in the booth closest to their entrance which I didn't mind at first, but after a while the high foot traffic was distracting (maybe they could place a divider between the waiting area and the booth). Onto the food, pricing, and service: portion is generous and they are more affordable than the Rowland Height's location. I ordered the Bbq Chicken Fried Rice. Chicken was juicy and flavorful. It was easy to take off the bone. The fried rice was light, flavorful, and cooked perfectly. I couldn't finish my plate (even though I wanted to) so I boxed the rest to take home. My husband got the Continental Fried Rice. A dish Banana Bay is well-known for. The chicken skin was crispy, the fried egg was yolky in the center, the sausages were soft, and the fried rice was consistent with my plate's. Service was great and the staff was attentive even during their peak hours. I gained a sense of relief when more than one waitress checked in on us periodically. Overall, my husband and I had a great first impression. We're already talking about coming back in the near future. If you're looking for a Thai spot where you can order a plateful of food at an affordable price, this one is it!

I can't not complain about the food, the food is amazing and cooked perfect. The one huge thing…read morethat made this whole experience extremely horrible and unforgettable was the service, or lack of service for better explanation. And I have strongly feeling, we were discriminated because we were not of Asian ethnicity and because we were Latino. When we sat down it took them about 20 minutes to receive the menus, and another 20 to get water while at the same time every other table was being tended to multiple times. When I would raise my hand for service the "employees" who worked there would just look at me with my raised hand and continue to ignore me. When we ordered our food after almost 30 minutes of just sitting there, this Asian woman who refused to give me her name , came to our table and just took the chili sauce tray from our table and said "I'm going to use this for the other table since you guys don't have food, and I'll bring you one later." I said that was fine since we were still waiting on our food. 20 minutes later passed, and our food comes out. I asked the nice Asian gentleman who brought our food if I can get forks and spoons, since he didn't bring any to us. And he completely ignored me and walked away. So we had to sit there with our food with no utensils and no chili tray. I tried to get the attention of the Asian woman who took our chili tray so we can get one since our food arrived and the same Asian women server completely ignored me the whole time and only attended to her side of the restaurant. I don't understand the whole lack of customer service to people who clearly are not Asian, the ambiance felt off and you could totally feel the discrimination and different kind of treatment received. So after 10 minutes of just waiting for our utensils or for someone to come approach me after I've been flagging them down with my hands, I had to get up and go to the front desk and asked if someone could help us cause everyone is ignoring us. When I said that to the young lady at the front desk, she had someone come out immediately to finally give us utensils and our chili that was removed from our table. Not even 10 minutes after we started eating. A different asian woman waiter, who was not our waiter from earlier approached us and asked us "if you guys need to order more food do it it now cause we are about to close and needs to be ordered to go." I find it ironic that she only came to us to let us know that they were closing soon, but the other patrons who obviously were of Asian orientation were left alone. They brought us our check while we were still eating. It was obvious that they were rushing us out after the dreadful, abysmal, subpar service we received. Never have I been treated differently from the rest of the patrons in a restaurant, and I find it sad because I've been going to Banana Bay in Rowland Heights since 2010 and have NEVER received this kind of service. This will be my last time I support this restaurant and anyone who is Latino or any other different race for that matter, be warned.

They also have the cutest little basket with hot sauces. Yesterday we had Tom Yum soup -- and that is truly the top dish on their menu. I've been to Thailand, but honestly, the Tom Yum at President Thai is even better! The service is super fast and the staff is very friendly. THANK YOU so much!

I think I just found my new favorite Thai restaurant in this neighborhood! Been wanting to try here…read morefor ages, but it's always packed when we drive by. I completely understand now. Went for an early dinner with my bf. Was greeted so warmly by the staff and seated promptly. We wanted to order some of our typical dishes so we can compare, so we got their Baby Corn Mushroom with Chicken, Green Curry with Sole Filet, and Thai Style Basil Ground Pork with Fried Egg. OMG! They were all gloriously drool-worthily divine!! Likely the most flavorful of these dishes that I've ever tried at a Thai restaurant to date! Completely exceeded all my expectations!! And the portions were so generous! We were so occupied stuffing ourselves silly, that we completely forgot to make room for dessert! And we still had a ton of leftovers to take home! I love this place so much already! Super friendly and attentive staff. Gorgeous decor with an appreciative traditional feel. Limited parking in lot, but it looks like the regulars prefer parking on the street out front when we were leaving. Already planning to return next time our Thai craving hits to try more of their yummy dishes! Highly recommend!!
