I recently ordered from Purple Thai through DoorDash and overall had a really good experience. The food was flavorful and fresh. The fried rice, Pad See Ew, and bbq chicken rice were all delicious and definitely the highlights of the meal. The only reason I'm giving 4 stars instead of 5 is the barbecue chicken. In the past, it has had more of that crispy, fried-chicken-like texture that I really enjoy, but this time it wasn't as crunchy as expected. It was still good, but I think that's one area that could be improved. I have been to purple type before in person and I know for a fact they have a great and clean environment so I can definitely give a five star review on that. As far as Customer Service 10 out of 10 lol I called them to let them know that I have a sesame seed allergy and they were very receptive and assured me that nothing I ordered had a sesame seeds to begin with. I have been coming to Thai Purple since high school and mainly go during their pad thai Tuesdays. Back then it was $4 but now 20 years later it is $7.99 which is still a good deal. Where else can you find pad thai for this price. The noodles are firm and when you mix it with the sprouts it gives it a nice crunch. The chicken is cooked well and flavorful. The pad thai Tuesday also comes with 2 shrimps that are decently sized. The tamarind sauce is tangy but not too sweet. I like to add siracha to give it a little spice. The staff here is nice and brings out the food pretty quickly. If I am not dining in I will order to go. I'm not sure if the pad thai deal is cash only but they ask to pay with cash whenever I go. There are plenty of tables and have a parking garage next door shared with the other establishments. My mom and I dropped by for Sunday lunch and tried out their lunch specials. The inside is really spacious, and the service was pretty good. We ordered the Pad Kee Mao Noodles (which they only serve on Sundays and Mondays) and the Yellow Curry (we chose chicken as the protein). If you love basil, you will definitely like the Pad Kee Mao. It is way more savory than Pad See Ew, which is usually a bit sweeter. Personally, I still prefer Pad See Ew, but it was cool to try. The only downside was the pork meat; it was pretty chewy, and I really wish it had been more tender. The Yellow Curry came with rice, and we ordered it mildly spicy. It tasted okay, nothing mind-blowing, but a decent option if you don't want too much heat. Overall, the prices are really reasonable for the portion sizes, and the vibe is nice. read more

Thai Purple has always been one of our fave Thai restaurants in the SGV - they have the BEST crab rangoon around, we've loved almost everything we've tried over the years, the staff are always warm and welcoming, it's a great location, and the prices are consistently decent for the area.  Their curries are always fresh and tasty - they have all your typical Thai curry varieties (green, red, yellow and others - and you can adjust your spice level), they use fresh veggies, and their meats are good quality. They have great lunch specials that include an excellent veggie soup and the curries come with a generous amount of rice.  Their pad see ew is also another winner here. Perfect consistency in the noodles, a delectable sauce, and the veggies are tender and delicious. It's my go-to dish here when I'm not in the mood for curry.  I also love their tea varieties! On our last visit I tried their red date tea - it's brewed with longons (similar to lychees) and red dates - it's got an incredible flavor and is the perfect amount of sweet. A great dessert option if you want something lighter - and it's caffeine free so it's a nice post-dinner drink. I'd come back here just for this lol. I love the vibes too - it's very cozy and warm - like eating at an auntie's house lol. Plenty of tables but also booths too and they have a nice fish tank at the front entrance. The location is perfect for a date night - they're right across the street from the movie theater in the main part of Alhambra. We used to come all the time when we lived closer years ago and were happy to see that they're still going strong after all this time!  They have plenty of free parking in the garage located in the back and a back entrance right across from it. I came here with my girlfriend for a Friday girl's night out dinner. We were seated at a booth, the decor is very Thai and authentic. The ambiance here is always good, the server, Ae, was very helpful and attentive, bringing us our drinks and food as soon as it was cooked. The restaurant got busier during the evening, but there were some available tables. The menu is very good, we picked a salad, soup, appetizer and main dish with two bowls of rice. It was more than enough, we had a little box of one dish for leftovers. The parking structure is in the back, but we came early enough to snag the available parking right behind the restaurant. The restaurant has available food delivery for the local area, and it also has plenty of lunch specials if you come with your friends or family during the lunch hour. I would check this place out, either for a lunch or a dinner with your family or friends, or for a date, they serve several flavorful tea drinks as well as a delicious menu that is sure to please Thai food lovers. read more

I tried this place as it came recommended to me about 8 years ago and today I decided to try a new Thai restaurant fir Father's Day dinner, and I really want to CRY! The service I can't comment on as our food was delivered but I did request condiments, however didn't receive any, I also requested utensils for Shrimp Pad Thai and received spoons, 2 small shrimps in our order of Pad Thai noodles. DRY overcooked Orange Chicken, weird texture and looking Calamari with 1 small sauce. The Thai tea was also disappointing for me. My tastebuds are more discriminating than my Husband and he wasn't really impressed. My Pad Thai, and Orange Chicken were a BOGO, so a double disappointment. Had a good lunch with family, the food was flavorful and lots of variety to pick up, the portion was just right. Our favorite item was the Lemon Fish, not only did it come out with the WOW presentation, the fish was fresh, the sizzling plate kept boiling, and the lemon aroma was flowing around the table. Pad Thai, very bland and dry. The place looks nice tho. The back bar area could be used more. Maybe if their food was actually good they'd be packed and have a reason to use it. Was very empty. Parking: There's a parking structure nearby that's right off N 1st Street and W Main St. From there, you can access the restaurant's rear entrance. Update: Visited the place again after some time and mentioned the business owner's response and true enough i get a thai iced tea for free. the thai iced tea is pretty good. not too sweet, not too bold like places that specializes in thai iced tea, overall quite enjoyable. Thai Purple is one of my go to restaurant. It sad to see this place getting bad review for their service, or food quality, or even about the place. I understand this platform you can shared your opinion. A lot of restaurants out there struggle, I quoted this from google : "According to the National Restaurant Association, the estimated failure rate in the restaurant industry is about 30%, with around 17% closing down in their first year. Running a restaurant can be challenging and demanding" Stop hate comments. If the food or services did not meet your expectations, Please have some decency to tell them. I stopped by to pick up my to go orders. I was able to get credit back from the missing steamed rice and claimed free pad Thai from the restaurant, as promised by the owner's review. I greatly appreciate the gesture and attention to detail. I received all the items ordered. The older lady I encountered said I didn't need to write a review on Yelp about it. But that is my choice. As a vegetarian, I love Thai food as they are so versatile with us non-meat eaters! I've always passed by this place and never had the time to try it. But as I was scrolling to find some lunch I saw Postmates they had a deal with Thai Purple: BOGO free Pad Kee Mao BOGO free fried rice BOGO free Thai Iced Tea DEAL! So my partner and I placed an order through Postmates to try those items: Pad Kee Mao with soy meat Fried Rice with soy meat and 2 Thai Iced Teas We picked up our order and came home to enjoy our tasty Thai lunch: I poked my straw into my Thai tea and I was hit with a aromatic smell of tea and slight sweetness. Perfect for me! But when I opened my food I saw that there was no utensils, no biggie - I probably should've asked for some. I grabbed a pair of chop sticks and dug in. And... well, read below for more: Pad Kee Mao with soy meat: Quantity wise, it looked a little sad; very little noodles as well as any bell peppers or Thai Basil. The soy meat tasted like it's been in their freezer for quite some time and they took it out and tossed it into the wok to cook with everything else. It has a watery, rubbery, and bland taste. Then as I started eating the rest of the dish, everything felt so bland. I had to grab some soy sauce from the kitchen and my own Thai chili give it more of a kick. Then the worst thing happened. My partner turned to me with such a shocked expression and pull out a black strand of hair from his mouth. So he spit it out and continued eating only to find more in his food. Needless to say, he stopped and tried the fried rice Fried rice with soy meat: Just the same as the Pad Kee Mao, bland and the soy meat was so watery that it tasted "off". And again, another strand of black hair came from our fried rice. At least the fried rice looked like there was a lot of food! But such a shame that we had to throw it out since we lost our appetite to eat any more. It was such a shame, I really wanted to give this place a try as I love Thai Food (the spicier, the better!) but I felt that my first time really soured my experience. Love this hidden mom and pop Thai restaurant nestled on the side of main street Alhambra. I love how some of their menu specials are curated to have special deals for work, school or the community. Parking: You can park on the 26 N 1st St parking structure or if you're coming from the Edwards theater parking lot. Thai satay Beef- The meat is a little bit on the drier side because the meat is sliced thinner. Great peanut sauce and I love the chopped sweet veggie sauce. Pad see ew (seafood): Love their pad see ew. My favorite go-to dish to get and it tasted ama-zing! Highly recommend to get for yourself or to share. Highly recommend if you want to try a different type of sweet savory dish compared to pad Thai. Golden Net Shrimp: Shrimp is wrapped in a roll of the chow mein like noodles and fried with jumbo shrimp. It's a bit overwhelming how there's a lot of noodles wrapped around the shrimp. I wish that they would have either wrapped with less noodles or thinner noodles so that the dish could retain that crunch but keep the juiciness of the shrimp. This is a cute little Thai place with mostly good food. It's been in Alhambra forever and I've been going here since I was a kid. The place has aged quite a bit inside which is a little disappointing because I remember loving the feel of this place. Pad thai 10/10 so much flavor and they give you a ton. Fun fact, on Tuesday's pad thai is only $6.99. Avocado egg rolls 8/10 I've ordered them a few times and sometimes it's good, other times they are under cooked. Not a must try. The sauces are good though. Beef salad 1/10 least favorite item I've had. It was extremely salty. I took three bites and I was done. Bummer because I really wanted to love it. She is taking the order from the table behind me. There is an older woman behind the front counter. The waitress took the order from the people behind me and started to put the order in on the ordering device. The waitress then goes to the kitchen and returns with some dishes to take to another table. It really was not that busy. A group of three walk in and the lady behind the counter directs them to a table near the front of the restaurant. The waitress then goes to their table and for what I assume she takes their drink order. Now she is putting some kind of order on the ordering device. Now a group of 4 walk in and they are immediately seated. The waitress now goes to back to the kitchen with what looks a printed order from the device. I look back and see the older woman taking orders from the table of 3. I am still waiting. I decided this is too much and walk out. I know businesses are facing a tough time in this economy. We were craving for Thai food and remember about this establishment cause we had eaten around this restaurant, we decided to give it a try. We ordered yellow chicken curry and fried tilapia. The chickens were not fresh, the oil that they used to fried the fish was stale and not fresh oil. I came on a Wednesday afternoon this time however, per my mom's request. She really enjoys their lunch special that comes with Mongolian beef and Thai pork short ribs. I got the lunch special pad see ew with chicken. We also enjoyed avocado rolls and the special of the day, shrimp Tom yum. Everything was delicious as always. The server was really nice and accommodating too. I've always admired the decor here too, the brick walls lined with Buddhist adornments.
