Thai Tea and Salad for Lunch Special
    Cherlene L.

This place is a true hole in the wall, especially with the view of it from the parking lot. I was here with a few friends on a weekday for their lunch special. For about 15.99, the meals come with a select menu of entrees, a small salad, and a drink. Food was good, nothing crazy stand out. Can't be a meal deal or lunch special nowadays. My shrimp pad thai was a bit on the saltier side that my drink was gone before I was halfway done with the meal. My friends enjoyed their dishes very well, so it could've been my entree choice. I do hope to come again soon to try their other dishes. Service was the usual. For small venue, they did not need many people on hand. It only was an issue when the place had a few more patrons after we came. Our server was super sweet though despite all the chaos going on. Would still come here again for their lunch special. Not a big fan of its parking lot though. It's a bit chaotic but there is a parking structure connected with parking available.

One of the best restaurants I have ever been too. The food is always made to perfection with so much flavor. Since the orders are made to serve more than 1 it's a perfect spot to eat with friends/ family or even to have something to take for lunch the next day. Orange chicken is perfectly crispy. Noodles and rice are made extremely well. As well the milk tea boba is one of the best I have ever had. The servers are always so nice and friendly. This is a smaller restaurant so it's possible there isn't much seating but I would definitely wait for a table if I needed to.

Orange chicken is all skin there was no chicken whatsoever!

I'm sadden! What was once my favorite go to Thai food place has gone down severely!! They were known for their Orange chicken, after Covid most if not all of their food items have been disappointing. Today I ordered an Orange chicken and rice entree the "Orange chicken" was nothing but skin dipped and fried in flour and drenched in orange sauce ! I called and of course the woman offered to make me a new plate but having to drive back and hunt for parking is not worth it . After 10 years of patronizing I do wish them the best but I have had enough bad experiences I don't think I can continue to support .

    Pad thai lunch special

3.7 stars I'm torn. I ordered the pad thai lunch special which also came with rice and a side salad. On the one hand, I like that their lunch specials are a generous size, generous meat-to-noodle ratio, and comes with a drink. On the other hand, the flavor of the pad thai was dull, the white rice was a bit too dry, and not worth driving 20 minutes to pick up. So, here's my recommendation. If you have high blood pressure and need low sodium everything, the pad thai here is probably a good match for you. The portion of the lunch special is also big enough to be split into 2 meals unless you're a big eater. And if the pad thai is still too salty for you, I recommend mixing it with the white rice. Annnd I'm not joking b/c that is exactly how a family member of mine has to eat certain foods that are deemed too salty for his high blood pressure. Anyways.... I would definitely come back if I was in the area, but I probably will not be driving from home just to get the lunch specials here. If you work or live in Monterey Park, I think this is a very good low-key Thai restaurant to dine in or take out. And the fact that they're still in business means that they're doing a lot of things right and that I just happened to have picked something that might not be their star dish. Final verdict: middle-of-road, not bad, but not great. Will come back if in the area.

Unassuming Thai restaurant in a small plaza. It's become our go to for takeout. Really good size portions and lots of meat! We were pleasantly surprised with the portions and quality of food. Highly recommend for a nice meal!

The food meets expectations. I had chicken pad Thai. The noodles were good, the chicken fell a bit flat. The customer service is friendly enough with a casual ambiance. Overall it's an adequate option.

Service towards other customers including my self one is required to show your California ID when using your credit card. I wasn't expecting that requirement to purchase food. I stated I didn't have it on me and the 2 people behind the counter were very rude, making facial expressions and talking to them selves in their language. I told them I was sorry and the woman looked at me with distain. I was surprised to see her behavior while she mumbled in her language. She shouted out loud (as if I had done something bad) "Next time you bring ID." I replied "Next time I won't come here." Totally unnecessary to treat a customer in that manner. I don't understand the attitude and rudeness. On the other hand, the food is delicious, Fresh and well served. I hope they didn't do something to my food being they were upset.

    Told you. Large portion.

My girlfriend and I were Hangry and looking for a spot to eat in the evening(9ish). Good thing this place was open until 10pm. My gf was skeptical because of its reviews. I , on the other hand, told her "let's give this place a chance and give our own review." Upon arriving , we were seated immediately. The service was great. We ordered tofu pad Thai and Tom kha soup. The food was tasty and came with large portions. My gf said "I would come back!" The price was good.

Highly recommend this place. Delicious food and fast service. There's a reason why it's packed with patrons. Highly recommend the pork ribs and orange chicken.

Excellent food. Good quick service. This was from the restaurant itself not from the express place across the street. They said they were the same owners. I've been to the express, and the food is just as delicious

And onto the Khai soi; the crunch noodles and the soft noodles and mixed with all the mustard greens and red onion and the count curry sauce : all in one bite what a wonderful sensation of sweet, sour, spicy and the crunchy texture was welcoming and memorable. The curry had that hint of coconut that mellowed out the boldness of the curry. The restaurant was tiny and in this case definitely cozy. Staff was welcoming and engaging and checked on me every so often. The Thai coffee was perfect with the dishes as it mellowed out the spice in the appetizer and noodles. But what it lacks in square footage, it more than makes up for on the plate. From the first bite, it was clear this kitchen isn't playing around. Every dish came out bursting with flavor like the chef had something to prove to the entire San Gabriel Valley. You know the kind of meal where you look at the person across the table mid-bite and both of you just nod? That was us the whole time. I moved to the SGV a little over a year ago and I have been sorely disappointed by offerings this nook of LA county has to offer *ahem banana bay*. I found myself driving to the SFV or Thai Town whenever I was too lazy to cook Thai food on my own. I decided to take a gamble with this restaurant and I am so very glad that I did. It's so good and authentic that I have come out of yelp retirement (Yelp Elite 2016-2020) to leave this review. I ordered four things as take out: Issan Sausage, Pad Kra Pow Minced Chicken, Spicy Fried Crispy Cat Fish, and Drunken Noodles. I was told that they were out of the Kra Pow Century Egg and stewed pork leg over rice. Hopefully, I'll get to try it next time! Issan Sausage: Good portions. Flavor is very good, a little sour, a little salty, and a hint of sweetness. I think the flavors could be a bit more bold with the sour but overall the flavors profile is as it should be. Frying it also added a nice crispiness to it. Spicy Fried crispy Catfish: Flavors were really good. Sweet foods is typically not usually in my flavor profile, but this is one of the few sweet entrees I actually like. Catfish can be a bit more fried but that is moreso a preference on my part. Drunken Noodle Beef: Good char on the noodles. Flavor was really good as well. Not that much beef but the star of the show are the noodles. I was a tad confused on the egg in my drunken noodle but to each their own. I would probably order it without the egg next time because it does change the texture a bit. Pad Kra Pow Minced Chicken: Now here's where it gets interesting! Tantawan actually uses holy basil (Kra Pow). It's harder to find but it has a very distinct flavor that Thai-American cuisine has for the most part substituted due to scarcity with Thai Basil (Horapha). I don't think you can get more authentic than actually using the right herb. Funnily enough, I think it can throw off people that have never had authentic Kra Pow as my partner said it tasted herbally. Thai food can be very hit and miss even among the Thai community as we all have different preferences when it comes to the holy trinity of sweet, salty, and sour. I am personally on the spectrum of sweet should be hinted at and never the forward flavor. Tantawan with the dishes I ordered definitely held to my flavor profile. Very well cooked and good flavor profile. I didn't have to add any seasoning as everything was cooked just right. I called my take out in and they said it would be ready in 20 and it was when I arrived. Even as the food sat in my passenger seat as I drove home I could tell from the smell emanating from the take-out bag that the food was going to be good. Quick and courteous service!

We joined their waitlist on their tablet near their counter and we were seated within 5 minutes. Just like the other location in Rowland Heights, it's very busy on a Friday night! The restaurant overall is very clean except near the entrance due to high foot traffic. It's decorated with Chinese lanterns, cherry blossom, and bamboo trees placed in the middle of the restaurant. It almost felt like I was dining at a high end restaurant. It's significantly smaller than the other location, but the high ceilings give it a spacious atmosphere. There are plenty tables and booths. Be aware the booths do move easily when you get out of your seat. We were sat in the booth closest to their entrance which I didn't mind at first, but after a while the high foot traffic was distracting (maybe they could place a divider between the waiting area and the booth). Onto the food, pricing, and service: portion is generous and they are more affordable than the Rowland Height's location. I ordered the Bbq Chicken Fried Rice. Chicken was juicy and flavorful. It was easy to take off the bone. The fried rice was light, flavorful, and cooked perfectly. I couldn't finish my plate (even though I wanted to) so I boxed the rest to take home. My husband got the Continental Fried Rice. A dish Banana Bay is well-known for. The chicken skin was crispy, the fried egg was yolky in the center, the sausages were soft, and the fried rice was consistent with my plate's. Service was great and the staff was attentive even during their peak hours. I gained a sense of relief when more than one waitress checked in on us periodically. Overall, my husband and I had a great first impression. We're already talking about coming back in the near future. If you're looking for a Thai spot where you can order a plateful of food at an affordable price, this one is it!

I can't not complain about the food, the food is amazing and cooked perfect. The one huge thing…read morethat made this whole experience extremely horrible and unforgettable was the service, or lack of service for better explanation. And I have strongly feeling, we were discriminated because we were not of Asian ethnicity and because we were Latino. When we sat down it took them about 20 minutes to receive the menus, and another 20 to get water while at the same time every other table was being tended to multiple times. When I would raise my hand for service the "employees" who worked there would just look at me with my raised hand and continue to ignore me. When we ordered our food after almost 30 minutes of just sitting there, this Asian woman who refused to give me her name , came to our table and just took the chili sauce tray from our table and said "I'm going to use this for the other table since you guys don't have food, and I'll bring you one later." I said that was fine since we were still waiting on our food. 20 minutes later passed, and our food comes out. I asked the nice Asian gentleman who brought our food if I can get forks and spoons, since he didn't bring any to us. And he completely ignored me and walked away. So we had to sit there with our food with no utensils and no chili tray. I tried to get the attention of the Asian woman who took our chili tray so we can get one since our food arrived and the same Asian women server completely ignored me the whole time and only attended to her side of the restaurant. I don't understand the whole lack of customer service to people who clearly are not Asian, the ambiance felt off and you could totally feel the discrimination and different kind of treatment received. So after 10 minutes of just waiting for our utensils or for someone to come approach me after I've been flagging them down with my hands, I had to get up and go to the front desk and asked if someone could help us cause everyone is ignoring us. When I said that to the young lady at the front desk, she had someone come out immediately to finally give us utensils and our chili that was removed from our table. Not even 10 minutes after we started eating. A different asian woman waiter, who was not our waiter from earlier approached us and asked us "if you guys need to order more food do it it now cause we are about to close and needs to be ordered to go." I find it ironic that she only came to us to let us know that they were closing soon, but the other patrons who obviously were of Asian orientation were left alone. They brought us our check while we were still eating. It was obvious that they were rushing us out after the dreadful, abysmal, subpar service we received. Never have I been treated differently from the rest of the patrons in a restaurant, and I find it sad because I've been going to Banana Bay in Rowland Heights since 2010 and have NEVER received this kind of service. This will be my last time I support this restaurant and anyone who is Latino or any other different race for that matter, be warned.
