Great affordable choice for Thai food! Got the $40 party tray and it was pretty good price had to be my favorite part. Fwd over 10 people with leftovers! Also got Thai tea which was only $2! Everything in this food court is great especially Star Thai, classic !

New Star Thai is very affordable decent Thai eats. It's the familiar Thai food greatest hits like : Noodles (Pad Thai/Pad See Eww), Curries, Soups, Fried Rice, Stir Fry. This food stall is run by an older friendly Thai couple. It's A-okay nothing stellar. My favorite thing here are the chicken noodle soup and they have a vegan noodle soup that's not bad. CASH ONLY!

I was craving papaya salad, and I thought I would try the Salty Crab Papaya Salad. The idea sounds good, but when I tried it, the salad was a little too pungent with fish sauce, and the salt crab was just way too much for me to take. If I come back next time, I would just probably just get the regular papaya salad.

The food here offer great value for the price. The portions are generous, and you get authentic flavors without breaking the bank. For a casual meal, the prices are decent and affordable, making it a go-to spot for a tasty Thai fix on a budget. Crab Fried Rice was okay. Kinda bland but worth the price 7/10 Tom Yum Noodle Soup was okay also. They give a lot of noodles but not enough broth. Not spicy enough. 6/10 Cash only

A little mom and pop establishment that makes great Thai food. Prices are unbeatable and portions are very generous. My kid loves the pad see yew and I love their glass noodle salad. Orders usually take about 10-15 minutes to come out. You can browse other food stalls while you wait. This food court has lots of other options ranging from Vietnamese desserts stall to Chinese dumplings. Highly recommend for a quick and affordable meal.

CASH ONLY. Pad see ew was pretty bad. More like Chinese chow fun than anything else. Even then, it lacked flavor and was not memorable. I will not be back.

This is the thai restaurant located at the food court at The Square in Rosemead. We ordered pad thai and Tom yum, total was about 20 bucks. Took about ten minutes to come out. Great value and portions. I really liked the pad thai and I'd come back for that. I want to try their hainan chicken or fried rice dishes next time.

Food always good and tasty and reasonably priced for the portions given. It's my goto place for Thai food. Quite authentic.

First time trying New Star Thai. I've seen this food court restaurant any times while coming to shop at the GW Supermarket. I had the intention of trying their Mango Sticky Rice since I haven't tried that before, but they removed the item from the menu. During this visit, I tried the Chicken Pad Thai. I was curious to try something new and see if it could be my new regular spots. Currently the food court seating area has been dismantled so no dining in. Everything is take out. Opening opening the to go box I thought the amount of food was pretty decent. Lots of ingredients for sure and many different flavors. For the Pad Thai there's lots of vegetables, soft noodles, and finely crushed peanuts. If you have a nut allergy I do not recommend this noodle dish. Overall, it was tasty and for $8.50 for a box of noodles, it was decent. I'll probably come back to try their other dishes, especially their Mango Sticky Rice. For those of you who have not been to the food court inside The Square plaza, it's inside the store to your far left if you're entering from the main entrance. Parking is usually plentiful, however on weekends when most people do their shopping parking spots can fill up quickly.

Cheap Thai food at the food court. My niece and I wanted to grab something quick before going shopping. Crispy pork with Chinese broccoli ($8.50): not bad for the price. The taste was OK, but the pork skin got hard and chewy really fast. Chicken pad thai ($7.50): we were a little disappointed because the noodle was overcooked and greasy. The lady who took our order was nice, but her husband (?) was cranky. He didn't like the fact that I asked for another plastic bag since the sauce was all over the bag. QUICK TIP: LOCATED AT THE FOOD COURT INSIDE THE SQUARE PLAZA! 3 stars!! New Star Thai is almost yummylicious!!

I moved to the SGV a little over a year ago and I have been sorely disappointed by offerings this nook of LA county has to offer *ahem banana bay*. I found myself driving to the SFV or Thai Town whenever I was too lazy to cook Thai food on my own. I decided to take a gamble with this restaurant and I am so very glad that I did. It's so good and authentic that I have come out of yelp retirement (Yelp Elite 2016-2020) to leave this review. I ordered four things as take out: Issan Sausage, Pad Kra Pow Minced Chicken, Spicy Fried Crispy Cat Fish, and Drunken Noodles. I was told that they were out of the Kra Pow Century Egg and stewed pork leg over rice. Hopefully, I'll get to try it next time! Issan Sausage: Good portions. Flavor is very good, a little sour, a little salty, and a hint of sweetness. I think the flavors could be a bit more bold with the sour but overall the flavors profile is as it should be. Frying it also added a nice crispiness to it. Spicy Fried crispy Catfish: Flavors were really good. Sweet foods is typically not usually in my flavor profile, but this is one of the few sweet entrees I actually like. Catfish can be a bit more fried but that is moreso a preference on my part. Drunken Noodle Beef: Good char on the noodles. Flavor was really good as well. Not that much beef but the star of the show are the noodles. I was a tad confused on the egg in my drunken noodle but to each their own. I would probably order it without the egg next time because it does change the texture a bit. Pad Kra Pow Minced Chicken: Now here's where it gets interesting! Tantawan actually uses holy basil (Kra Pow). It's harder to find but it has a very distinct flavor that Thai-American cuisine has for the most part substituted due to scarcity with Thai Basil (Horapha). I don't think you can get more authentic than actually using the right herb. Funnily enough, I think it can throw off people that have never had authentic Kra Pow as my partner said it tasted herbally. Thai food can be very hit and miss even among the Thai community as we all have different preferences when it comes to the holy trinity of sweet, salty, and sour. I am personally on the spectrum of sweet should be hinted at and never the forward flavor. Tantawan with the dishes I ordered definitely held to my flavor profile. Very well cooked and good flavor profile. I didn't have to add any seasoning as everything was cooked just right. I called my take out in and they said it would be ready in 20 and it was when I arrived. Even as the food sat in my passenger seat as I drove home I could tell from the smell emanating from the take-out bag that the food was going to be good. Quick and courteous service!

And onto the Khai soi; the crunch noodles and the soft noodles and mixed with all the mustard greens and red onion and the count curry sauce : all in one bite what a wonderful sensation of sweet, sour, spicy and the crunchy texture was welcoming and memorable. The curry had that hint of coconut that mellowed out the boldness of the curry. The restaurant was tiny and in this case definitely cozy. The place is tiny--blink and you might miss it, and if two people sneeze at the same time the whole dining room probably hears it. But what it lacks in square footage, it more than makes up for on the plate. From the first bite, it was clear this kitchen isn't playing around. We joined their waitlist on their tablet near their counter and we were seated within 5 minutes. Just like the other location in Rowland Heights, it's very busy on a Friday night! The restaurant overall is very clean except near the entrance due to high foot traffic. It's decorated with Chinese lanterns, cherry blossom, and bamboo trees placed in the middle of the restaurant. It almost felt like I was dining at a high end restaurant. It's significantly smaller than the other location, but the high ceilings give it a spacious atmosphere. There are plenty tables and booths. Be aware the booths do move easily when you get out of your seat. We were sat in the booth closest to their entrance which I didn't mind at first, but after a while the high foot traffic was distracting (maybe they could place a divider between the waiting area and the booth). Onto the food, pricing, and service: portion is generous and they are more affordable than the Rowland Height's location. I ordered the Bbq Chicken Fried Rice. Chicken was juicy and flavorful. It was easy to take off the bone. The fried rice was light, flavorful, and cooked perfectly. I couldn't finish my plate (even though I wanted to) so I boxed the rest to take home. My husband got the Continental Fried Rice. A dish Banana Bay is well-known for. The chicken skin was crispy, the fried egg was yolky in the center, the sausages were soft, and the fried rice was consistent with my plate's. Service was great and the staff was attentive even during their peak hours. I gained a sense of relief when more than one waitress checked in on us periodically. Overall, my husband and I had a great first impression. We're already talking about coming back in the near future. If you're looking for a Thai spot where you can order a plateful of food at an affordable price, this one is it!

The one huge thing…read morethat made this whole experience extremely horrible and unforgettable was the service, or lack of service for better explanation. And I have strongly feeling, we were discriminated because we were not of Asian ethnicity and because we were Latino. When we sat down it took them about 20 minutes to receive the menus, and another 20 to get water while at the same time every other table was being tended to multiple times. When I would raise my hand for service the "employees" who worked there would just look at me with my raised hand and continue to ignore me. When we ordered our food after almost 30 minutes of just sitting there, this Asian woman who refused to give me her name , came to our table and just took the chili sauce tray from our table and said "I'm going to use this for the other table since you guys don't have food, and I'll bring you one later." I said that was fine since we were still waiting on our food. 20 minutes later passed, and our food comes out. I asked the nice Asian gentleman who brought our food if I can get forks and spoons, since he didn't bring any to us. And he completely ignored me and walked away. So we had to sit there with our food with no utensils and no chili tray. I tried to get the attention of the Asian woman who took our chili tray so we can get one since our food arrived and the same Asian women server completely ignored me the whole time and only attended to her side of the restaurant. I don't understand the whole lack of customer service to people who clearly are not Asian, the ambiance felt off and you could totally feel the discrimination and different kind of treatment received. So after 10 minutes of just waiting for our utensils or for someone to come approach me after I've been flagging them down with my hands, I had to get up and go to the front desk and asked if someone could help us cause everyone is ignoring us. When I said that to the young lady at the front desk, she had someone come out immediately to finally give us utensils and our chili that was removed from our table. Not even 10 minutes after we started eating. A different asian woman waiter, who was not our waiter from earlier approached us and asked us "if you guys need to order more food do it it now cause we are about to close and needs to be ordered to go." I find it ironic that she only came to us to let us know that they were closing soon, but the other patrons who obviously were of Asian orientation were left alone. They brought us our check while we were still eating. It was obvious that they were rushing us out after the dreadful, abysmal, subpar service we received. Never have I been treated differently from the rest of the patrons in a restaurant, and I find it sad because I've been going to Banana Bay in Rowland Heights since 2010 and have NEVER received this kind of service. This will be my last time I support this restaurant and anyone who is Latino or any other different race for that matter, be warned.

Their menu was quite extensive so we took some time to browse before we ordered. They had a main menu and also a special menu. We pointed out some allergies to the staff and he helped us work around it. The orders came out quickly and he checked in on us frequently to see if we were okay. Great service! Bakka Wild Salmon - This salmon had a lot of things going on for it, in a good way! The combination of flavors felt very refreshing, especially on a hot day. The lime and basil was played a big part there. Crispy Short Rib with Lime - Even initially before coming here, this was the dish that caught our attention. I will admit the portion size was a bit smaller than I expected and was even skeptical when it came out. However, without a doubt, this was the highlight of the visit. As someone that loves savory foods, this really hit the spot. The burst of flavors settles in right away. Truffle Wok Seared Noodles - We wanted to pick this noodle dish as a balance to the protein dishes. It did its job but it tasted okay. Not something that stood out. Slow-Drip Vietnam Coffee Flan - I liked the caramel that was layered on the flan, it was crunchy and added a nice texture. It was a nice presentation but tasted okay. Thai Tea - This was my personal drink. It was a standard Thai tea but came with ice cream on top. It was not too sweet but didn't stand out compared to other items. Strawberry Pandan Lemonade - This was my girlfriend's drink. I had a small sip here but found it was refreshing and not too sweet. However, I didn't really get any pandan flavor, mainly strawberry. When it all comes together, it was a good experience. The interior of the story is more dimly lit and felt like a romantic night dinner, despite being the middle of the day. The dishes had a balance of standard and hidden gems. Everything was more than sufficient for two people to share. Service was great and very attentive. Will come back for the Crispy Short Ribs! American Express is accepted here.
