So sad to see there was no other customers on Friday night. Yes. No other customers at all and we arrived at 630 PM. The food here is better than the Indo restaurant in Alhambra. Good portion size, chili is separated so you can use to your liking. See description in pictures for food reviews. Nice staff but they don't talk much though, so it feels like not friendly. Most likely, the servers are also the owners? They give you regular size spoon and fork to eat, which means classic Asian place. (As supposed to fork and knife, which I dislike). It's small restaurant on the main Temple City Blvd with plenty of street parking. Clean inside.

Banana Leaf is a hidden gem for authentic Indonesian food in Temple City. From the moment you walk in, the aroma of spices and sambal instantly brings you back to Indonesia. The restaurant is clean, cozy, and the staff/owner are friendly and welcoming. We tried several dishes, and everything tasted homemade and full of flavor. The beef rendang was tender and rich, and their ayam keremes omg its so good.... came with a spicy sambal that hits just right. Portions are generous, and the prices are very reasonable for the quality you get. If you're craving real Indonesian comfort food, this place definitely delivers. Highly recommend Banana Leaf for anyone who misses the taste of home or wants to explore authentic Indonesian flavors.

I've been ordering from Banana Leaf for years and I only had my first sit-down experience today. They do seem a tad bit short staffed front house because a sweet lady was juggling everything in the front with most tables occupied and all, but we got seated rather quick (within 1 minute) We got handed our menus and the options havent changed from 2020 to 2025. Sticking to making quality of their options great is what I like. They do have specials on a chalkboard at the front, basically foods not on their official menu. Passed on that for now and we ordered Nasi Bungkus Pedas, and Nasi Uduk. The lady did warn me of how spicy the Nasi Bungkus Pedas was. I listened and I still ordered. The food arrived rather quickly (at most 10 mins) and the portions were MASSIVE. Not only that but it was so tasty. I was sweating a lot from the Nasi Bungkus Pedas, and I love it. Explosive flavor in a banana leaf. The only little hiccup was that it took a while for my check to arrive and we needed to get going, so I went up to the cash register to pay. I dont exactly blame her. There were many parties there to handle. Overall I was very satisfied. Food was great, service a tad bit slow but not a big deal in this case. I really dont expect absolute perfection. Give this place a shot!

Craving for some Malaysian/Indonesian foods and this is the closest for all of us to meet up. The place is small about 5 tables but quite cozy. The cleaning chemicals is a bit overwhelm you fist walk in. The food was good. We had their #21, coconut rice with chicken curry, small chunk of beef Rendang, an egg with veggies(green beans. Carrots and baby corns) with curry gravy. Fried chili fish and kankung Belacan! It was very tasty. The fried fish was very crispy and can crunch on the bones and fins. The kankung Belacan was so good and just the right amount of spiciness. To top it off, we had their saved ice dessert. Served with co densed milk with coconut jelly, coconut chunks, jackfruit and avocados! Sooo so good. Can order at the counter or at a sit down table.

Bummer - I'm a huge fan of southeast Asian food. I ordered the kwetiau. Smelled great - door dash drppped it off on time. First two bites were amazing - third one, not so good. There was a piece of metal wiring in my dish. Unacceptable. I make no apologies for calling out these types of mistakes. I will never go here, nor will I ever recommend this place.

Found them on ubereat and confused them with Banana Bay. Completely different menu - was excited by the Indonesian/Malaysian options. Portion was generous but the taste was just okay. We liked Medan in Rosemead/San Gabriel more.

I'm no indonesian food pro, but I can say my friend is. My friend and I had a couple shared dishes and were really happy about the portions. Is it my favorite indonesian spot? probably not but it definitely does the job. I'm a sucker for roti and glad they had it here. Although it felt more like a layered pancake, the sauce that came with it was good. I don't believe they have a lot, but there were plenty of parking spots on the street.

Ayam Kremes WHOLE, very crunchy and tasty

Been coming here with Indonesia friends,Love the food and snack sold by the cashier counter. One server does everything, which is very efficient. Decent price. Will be back again

It was surprisingly yummy. The portion are huge as far as the fried rice dishes. The table got it next to us and I was impressed. The chicken sautéed was my favorite moist and tasty. The bbq chicken was not my favorite here. The salad was delicious too. I would come back here. Maybe try a noodle or rice dish.

    Menu as of 6/6/25

Food is authentic Indonesian and taste very good. This is my favorite Indo resto, and I would bring friends and clients here to eat. They have everything you crave for. Ayam penyet komplit is amazing. I always order Soto Betawi. The only reason I gave 4 instead of 5 stars is the ambiance. After covid, it seems they don't care much about the ambiance anymore. To owner: please arrange the tables nicely and turn on the soft Indonesian music to create ambiance.

    Soft drink with ice

Finding Indo food here in SoCal is not easy, but Banana Leaf is a restaurant focusing on some of the most common Indonesian foods. Upon entering, I didn't wait long to be seated, and the workers are quick to take the order. I decided to order the nasi campur, which didn't take too long before it was served. The plate was delicious, from the rice and chicken to the tempeh and more! A couple of things to note is that if you order a soft drink and want ice, a lot is given to you. Another note is that there is a $20 minimum to pay with a card, and a $1 surcharge if your total is under $20 as of April 2025. This is a great restaurant to go to if you're craving some Indonesian food, and I will come back for more.

We enjoyed the food and the good service at Banana Leaf. It's a germ that hiding in a block of many vacant stores.

They have an extensive menu as they serve both Thai and Indonesian food. I would say maybe some dishes are even beyond that extending to other southeast Asian regions. I ordered a beef curry soup/stew dish. It was delicious and comforting. It comes with rice and shrimp chips. My partner ordered seafood fried rice and this was surprisingly good as well. Our party ordered so many different dishes and the restaurant still delivered. Normally I avoid restaurants with too long of a menu because I feel like they're doing too much, but this one somehow pulls it off. They also have southeast Asian snacks and foods for sale on the side too, making it feel like a mini grocery store too. We came cold and starving so I'm glad the food came out quick and piping hot. Ordering was quick and we were checked in on a handful of times. The staff were attentive and smiley. I got the Nasi Lemak as that was a personal favourite of mine growing up. It didn't exactly hit the spot but it definitely surprised me in a good way. The chopped up chicken allowed for a crispier exterior but also meant less juicy meat. Cabbage as a side was new to me, but was fresh and creamy. Solid sambal, though I'd personally like it a touch hotter. Overall a different take that works and makes it a wonderful, easy to eat rice dish. Chicken satay was great! Nutty sauce with a crispy garnish. It's missing the smoky flavour but the meat was cooked very well. A casual, family-friendly, hole-in-the-wall restaurant that lives up to it's name.

While I was grabbing my food from this establishment, I asked if they had any special offers and they weren't offering any at the moment. They currently don't have happy hour. They also do not allow pets in their establishment UNLESS it's a service animal. Parking: The parking lot for this establishment is pretty big since they share a parking lot with many other establishments. The parking spot sizes vary depending on where you park. There shouldn't be any issues finding a spot. Food: I ordered an Indonesian fried rice and pork satay skewers with rice. The Indonesian fried rice was really delicious. The Indonesian fried rice had some greens, eggs, garlic, dried shallots, dried onions, raw onions, green onion, chicken, and meatball. All cooked to perfection. There were a good amount of chicken and meatballs in the dish. Both were soft, juicy, tender, and full of flavors. I love that the hot rice was slightly crunchy. It reminded me of eating rice from a hot stone bowl. For the pork satay skewers, I was lowkey disappointed that they didn't have lamb this time. I originally ordered lamb satay skewers, but they told me they didn't have it so they asked me to order a different satay skewer. I opted for pork satay skewers. This dish normally comes with rice cakes, but I'm not a fan of the texture of rice cakes, so I asked them to give me plain white rice instead. They happily obliged and gave me a bowl of white hot and steaming white rice along with 5 pork satay skewers. The marinade for the pork satay skewers had hints of garlic, lemon, honey, sweet soy sauce, and peanut sauce. An extremely delicious marinade for the pork satay skewers. The grilled pork itself was very aromatic, tender, juicy, and flavorful. So incredibly umami! A good portion for the price point for both dishes. I do agree with other Yelpers that I felt extremely thirsty after eating both dishes. Perhaps they need to tone it down a bit on the MSG. Staff: The staff here are very friendly, happy, welcoming, and helpful. They accept both cash and credit cards. There is no credit card minimum. Also, right when you walk into the restaurant, there is a very cute and small market. You can get some delicious Indonesian snacks and other things while you wait for your food. I highly recommend coming here and giving this lovely mom and pop Indonesian restaurant a try. Sooooo fricken good!

They serve authentic Indonesian foods that remind me of Jakarta. Today I was really craving Ayam Goreng Kremes, because it's been many years since the last time I had it. Nasi Ayam Kremes is a combination of Indonesian style fried chicken, white rice, perkedel (fried potato pattie), fried tofu, fried tempeh, and sayur asem soup. The chicken is deep fried after it's been cooked in herbs and fully marinated. Very flavorful as I can really taste the different herbs and spices. Over the fried chicken is a generous serving of savory crunchy crumbs. There's also a side of medium spicy house sambal. I would recommend adding some kecap manis (Indonesian sweet soy sauce) and use this as dipping sauce. The half fried chicken is rather small, about the size of a Cornish hen. The soup is pretty good, even though I am not a fan of sayur asem soup. This tamarind-based soup contains green beans, chayote, corn rounds, and peanuts. The deep fried marinated tofu and tempeh are so yummy! They truly remind me of the good ol' days living in Indonesia, as they are the staple foods of the locals. The perkedel is just passable, possibly because it is served cold. Unfortunately, it isn't as crispy as it should be. The restaurant is small. Other than the kitchen crew, only one person was doing all the work. Good and very friendly service. My order did take a long time, however. If you're in a rush, you may want to eat somewhere else. Indo Bistro is the place where you really want to "santai" which means relax, take it easy. Indo Bistro is an Indonesian restaurant, mini-mart hybrid. After it is wrapped in fresh banana leaf, it is then char-grilled. Their lemper is really good, but very greasy. It's basically food and lip gloss in one. BOGO Lol Next time when I'm craving more Indonesian food, I'll be coming back to Indo Bistro. They have really good chicken satays.
