    KHAO SOI

*This review is for take out* I ordered the Khao Soi and I am actually pretty impressed. Despite their thousands of raving reviews, I was hesitant to order from them since I'm can be particular about noodles. I really appreciated the way they packaged their delivery, separating the noodles from the broth. The Khao Soi is super flavorful - exactly how I like it. The egg noodles were super chewy and the pickled lettuce hit just right. I highly recommend. I can't wait to try their other dishes!

    PAD WOON SEN

Today was my first time here, and overall I love the cozy ambiance. It feels like a very homey place that is small but not cramped. The pad woon sen was incredible. It's not a dish I usually order because I generally don't like glass noodles that much, but someone else at my table ordered it and it was by far the best dish we had. The flavor was well balanced between salty and umami, with the scallions and tomatoes mixing very well with the flavor of the noodles. Definitely the star of the show. The garlic wings were pretty good. The texture was phenomenal, perfectly crispy while the meat was still tender. Taste-wise I found the wings to be a bit too salty, and the sauce was a bit too sweet for my liking. I would have liked it better with some more garlic flavor. The weakest dish was the drunken noodles. I got the drunken noodles with shrimp, but the noodles either weren't fresh or they were a bit overcooked because they were a bit soggy. The shrimps were great, well seasoned and well cooked. The overall flavor of the dish was one-dimensional, where you can taste the salt, but it wasn't very umami and the flavor of the aromatics like the onions didn't really make it into the noodles. I would have liked it better if the noodles were less soggy and if the dish had some (more) white pepper. Service was good, but my rating is just for the food.

    Mango Sticky Rice

Stopped in for lunch and tried the Tom Kha ramen with extra shrimp and finished off with the mango sticky rice. There was indoor and outdoor seating, I took a seat inside. There was background music playing and a calm atmosphere. The waitress was really kind and attentive. The wait was not long, and the food came out steaming hot and fresh. The ramen was super flavorful and the shrimp was plenty. I was able to add more spice on the side since I asked for mild, which wasn't really spicy, just a nice kick. The mango was fresh and I love when the rice is served warm. Overall, I'd definitely come back to try some more dishes.

I had low expectations coming in as I usually go to Thai town for Thai food. However, I was pleasantly surprised and will be coming back soon! I met up with a friend here and parked residential. The street signs say you cannot park there without a permit, for more than 30 minutes, so you might have to have a quick lunch and then leave, if coming here! I ordered the duck noodle soup as I love duck noodle soup! This is one of the few places I've seen that have this dish! It was delicious but I wished for more veggies in the soup! Overall, will be back! Service was also fast and efficient!

I have been dying to try this place since moving to LA 3 years ago and I finally got to experience it. Pros: cool decor inside and out, in and outdoor seating, food was bomb, flavorful, and comforting and came out fast! Cons: no public restroom, tough parking, difficult to spot from street, customer service could use some work in terms of being friendly and maybe coming by 1-2 times to ask if we were ok outside of taking our order and giving us the check. Overall, I'd order from here again but probably to go instead of dining in.

Ambiance: it's a tiny and cozy Thai restaurant, with limited seating inside and outside, good for small groups or takeout orders Service: super friendly and patient with questions, attentively served water and food Food & Drink: classic menu for Thai noodles, curry and rice dishes KHAO SOI - **** Northern thai style egg noodle in light curry soup, shallots, pickled cabbage, lime and topped with crispy egg noodle, choice of pork and Thai spicy level, very flavorful broth, sweet and spicy, both crispy and chewy noodles, recommend DRUNKEN NOODLE (PAD KEE MOW) - *** Flat rice noodles stir fried with spicy brown sauce, basil, white onions, bell pepper, garlic, thai chill, tomatoes, choice of chicken and regular spicy level, light average taste Thai Tea - *** average taste Price: moderate portions and reasonable prices, expect $25 per person

This place is my go too when I'm in town or in my area!!! We always go here for pick up, take out and have a meal in their place. It's small but don't let that fool you. Our go to food is the pad see ew , Panang curry, yellow curry and not to forget the Tom kha noddles!!! Yeah the Tom kha noddles with shrimp but you can substitute for any kind or meat you like!! it's one of the many favorite here!!! The taste is something I love to my liking!!! This place is small and clean , but just right for the locals to dine in but most of the locals like me do take out most of the time; because we trust the quantity and quality. The server is super nice and helpful when you eat in! Parking might be hard at night but during the day it's very easy to find. So plan on those extra min to park so this way you plan ahead. Do I recommend this place ..... it's a YES TO ME! So if your ever in this place of the area and craving so good price, quantity and great taste than come by this place and give them a try. !!! All the best !

First Venice Noodles is a little Chinse/Thai place that has some of the best food in town. It is not huge, but it is always clean and fun. We usually have it delivered. They are fast or we do pick up. They will even deliver to your hotel. The prices are reasonable and if there is anything wrong with your delivery order they will make it right, straight away and be very nice about it. Just once, and we order a lot, there was an issue with raisins in the rice. We ordered it without. Believe it or not my dog loves their rice, no one else', just Venice Noodles so we get her an order. Raisins can and will kill a dog. The order had raisins and they fixed it all up so fast. They were so nice about it. Now we order from there a lot, so often that I don't recall how many times and this is the only time we had an issue. Ever other order we place is perfect, hot and delicious. They have some of the best noodle dishes. Any will be great for you. We also love their dumplings and their Venice Chicken Slice. You will not find this elsewhere. It is marinated chicken fried in a tortilla, slices and served with a great sauce. Their Thai Pork jerky is a must try. It is deep fried pork strips with the best chili on it and again, a great sauce. Whatever you get you will love.

    Thai Ramen

If you like spicy Thai food, this is your place. We had the Thai Ramen, Shrimp Pad Thai, Shrimp Fried Rice, and Steamed Dumplings. Everything we had was fresh and flavorful. The service is quick and friendly. It's a small location but it's clean and has plenty of street parking. One thing to note is that they do not have public restrooms.

Venice Noodles has great Thai food. Some of it is not what I have had at other places. Our favorite it the Pork jerky. It is served with a nice sauce. All of the food is great. I often eat right there but you can pick or have delivery. The service is nice and fast. The place is clean and well maintained. It is just the bomb.

A gem of a neighborhood mom and pop type café. The menu is pretty straightforward that specializes in Thai food but I sense there's a little bit of pan Asian fusion in there. The spot has been a few different operators I think over the years and I haven't actually visited this place. I came in looking for dinner and wanted something soupy. The vibe inside was pretty chill at the time and I was able to be helped right away. I ended up ordering their house special noodles (Venice Noodle Soup), which was a great broth with delicious toppings served with rice noodles. it was kind of a cross between Tom Yum soup and pho. It was delicious, comforting, and had that signature tartness from the soup. I really thought this was delicious. I also ordered the purple rain lemonade, which was also a fun beverage to go with my soup. Just a delicious family run cafe that has great food at a really reasonable price.

Look how clear the broth is.

I have eaten here over a hundred times. And the noodle broth is getting worse withe every new order. Idk if they are trying to cut down on cost for quality or got a new cook but the last 3 times I've ordered the Venice noodle soup & Duck noodle soup the broth tasted gross. Like something is off. Chemically. Like they just boiled water and added a soup packet. The duck noodle soups we ordered the broth was clear. Instead of the rich darkness it used to be. Borderline not edible.

The regular menu is quite expensive with the cheapest at $17 for appetizer and salad options and most expensive at a whooping $80. The lunch menu was more affordable but still on the pricey side $21-$32 with add on options. The waitress was taking our orders and what surprised me was with my co-worker ordered the pad see ew and the waitress asked her how spicy she wants it. I was aw shocked. I'm not a Thai food expert but I do know pad see ew is a noodles dish that's offers a sweet soy sauce flavor. Never served spicy. I didn't get to try the dish but when I asked my co worker how it taste she said it was spicy and not sweet at all. I'm not sure that was an authentic pad see ew. I ordered from the lunch menu and got the tumeric chicken, with steamed vegetables and paid extra $7 to substitute for a papaya salad. I asked for #2 spice level but it was not spicy at all. Other co workers said they asked for medium but it was way too spicy. So it looks like their spicy levels are inconsistent. I'm not sure how this restaurant can justify the prices with the quality they are serving. Probably won't be back. Service was mediocre. Didn't offer to refill our waters. I felt like I came to eat and my mom's house. They take Debit Card and Apple Pay WITH a pin only. I forgot my wallet and paid with Apple Pay. It did not have a place for tip which made me feel awful. At the end I apologized and she was like "it's ok, next time." And she was genuinely fine with it. She reassured me not to worry about it. So I'm determined to come back to tip her because if anybody deserved a tip it was her. I ordered Pad Thai with tofu- I like to order peanut sauce on the side and the woman found it interesting and struck a non judgmental conversion about it. I could really tell she was genuinely curious. This was my favorite dish. It was good. I also ordered spicy fried rice with tofu and spicy panang curry with vegetables. I chose 4 out of a 6 for spicy and it was not spicy at all for me. The rice was fine, nothing extraordinary and nothing bad. The panang curry was yummy. I don't know if it's regional but it was very light in taste and light in thickness. BUT I enjoyed it for what it was. Felt like I had gotten home made chicken soup or something like that comforting and not overly processed. Maybe it's because I ordered it with no protein and just vegetables. I ordered a lot of food so I explained to her that I was going to eat some and take the rest to go. When she brought the food she brought it nicely packed without a bag. She also brought me a real plate and utensils to eat here. She let me know that when I was ready she'd bring a bag which I thought was thoughtful. She also made sure to say "take your time, no need to rush. We close at 8" and it was 5pm. Again, it felt genuinely nurturing, she wanted to make sure I felt taken care of and welcomed. It meant a lot because I was frazzled from forgetting my wallet and from having a hard day at work. This was my first time here and it won't be my last. There is a small lot on site. I have written at least 2 glowing reviews of the restaurant in the past and wish this could be one of them, but it's not. Over the last 4-5 days I have tried no less than 2 dozen times to call the restaurant during proper business hours to order food for pick-up as I often do. The phone rang and rang to no avail. I live too far from the restaurant to just pop up and place an order so I rely on calling ahead. I have been a customer of this restaurant for at least the last 9 years and have almost never had the aforementioned experience. Though I do recall not being able to get a call through several times on one or two occasions in the relatively distant past. Today I was finally able to get a call through and began placing my order which includes shrimp. I ALWAYS request the tail (with shells) to be removed from the shrimp as I find it quite difficult to enjoy my meal if I'm constantly having to pick off shells with my hands. It's unsanitary and messy. Removing the tails from 15-20 shrimp prior to adding to an entree or soup should take no more than 60 seconds and that's if one is moving at a glacial pace. However, today I was told that the kitchen was too busy to honor my request. I assured the lady taking my order than I was a loyal customer and make this request will every order I place and it is always honored. She repeated her claim that the kitchen was too busy and refused to do it. I cancelled my order and ended the call. Now I usually order food from the restaurant 4-5 times a month and usually spend about $65 each time not including tip. That is approximately $325 per month of my hard earned money that I give to this restaurant in exchange for great food and service. I am appalled and quite upset that having been a loyal customer for almost a decade and spending as much money there as I do per month that they could at least honor my patronage by simply taking an additional 60 seconds in the kitchen to make my meal more enjoyable. Her refusal to do such a minuscule task has deeply soured my experience with Hoy-Ka not to mention the fact that I could not reach the restaurant for almost a week by phone for no apparent reason. I will not be going back to this restaurant until they rectify this situation.

Each time I've come the waitstaff has been super friendly, and the food amazing. So, when planning a little birthday lunch for my mom's 81st birthday, this was one of the first places I thought of. My mom lives in south LA and we live in the valley, so after picking her up, we wouldn't have to travel far to eat. Although we planned to arrive to the restaurant at 2, traffic was horrible and we arrived at 230pm. After looking for parking, I dropped the fam off at 2:40 so they could sit and look at the menu while I found parking. I get a text from my husband saying they closed at 3 so hurry. This was news to me, as I thought they closed at 5. I found parking and rushed in at 2:48, to see my family outside the restaurant. Perplexed, I went in to ask if we could still eat, as it wasn't yet 3pm. No wait staff came to the front to greet me, so I walked in a bit and asked the waiter if it was okay to eat. The waiter said we close in ten. I said I thought the website said you closed at 5. I must have read it wrong. I understand, but it's not 3 and we came a bit of a distance and it's my mom's 81st birthday. The waiter, whose name is Jack, offered to ask the kitchen if they would still make food. I said yes please would you ask? While Jack was asking, another waiter asked me if I had been helped. I told him yes, that Jack was asking the kitchen if we could still have lunch. This waiter says, we're closing in 10. I'd like to have lunch too. And walks away. Yes, with shade. Jack returns and says it's fine as long as we can order within a few minutes of getting the menu. I say great and we all come in. The 2nd waiter takes our order with the least amount of personality he possibly can, and the whole lunch is slightly awkward and we're not able to truly enjoy ourselves with the feeling of "we better hurry up and eat" lingering. By the time we ordered and received our food (which was delicious as usual) , there were still 4 other groups of customers there, and we actually left the restaurant within a minute or two after the last customers before us. Also, no one came around to ask how our food was and if we needed anything. I'm giving 3 stars because this experience didn't quite sit right with me. Yes, it was near closing, but your doors weren't closed and there was no sign saying last call/order at 2:45 or anything like that. I feel like once the kitchen approved making our lunch, customer service should have been at its peak for paying customers, who gave no attitude and tried to be as polite with the ask as possible. It was not. I still tipped 25%, because Jack (waiter 1) was polite and my 81 old mama who I was celebrating raised me that way, but I'm not sure I'll patronize them again.

After one meal, this is already one of the best Thai spots I've tried in LA!…read more Came with friends and ordered a bunch of dishes, and every single plate was ridiculously delicious. The Pad Thai was the best I've had outside of Thailand. Extremely well balanced, not too sweet, not too tangy, not drowning in sauce, just perfectly done with great noodle texture and loaded with shrimp. The Pad Kee Mao was so flavorful. Smoky, spicy, full of flavor, and had that proper "wok hei" char that makes noodles addictive. The Pad See Ew was equally rich and savory, and deeply satisfying. We also got the turnip omelette (Kai Jeow with preserved radish) and it blew my mind, honestly. It is so simple, but packed with flavor. Somehow one of the best egg dishes I've ever had. The morning glory with pork was another standout, super fresh, garlicky, and cooked perfectly. Everything came out hot, portions were generous, and the whole table went silent because the food is too good to talk through lol. On top of that, the servers were super nice, friendly, attentive, and made the whole experience even better despite how busy it was :) Packed restaurant, amazing energy, AMAZING food. This place just ruined average Thai food for me. Already thinking about when I'm going back!!!

I really wish I can love this place but it's really disappointing. What once was known as the best…read moreThai food in LA, is no longer the case. We got the raw shrimp salad, spicy catfish and bbq pork over rice. The raw shrimp "salad" is probably the best thing we've ate, but the chili sauce was over powering and couldn't really taste the freshness of the shrimp. And I feel like there could've been saw garlic to go along with it, but nope, just decorative cabbages that is not edible. As for the bbq pork over rice, the sausage was good and the crispy pork too. But the BBQ pork itself was HORRIBLE I literally spit it out. It tasted like old refrigerated dry meat, barely edible. And then the spicy catfish, the portion was so small, it looked like someone ate half of it. The pieces very tiny and it was so dry it tasted like it was refried. The spicy sauce didn't help much. And I overheard the table next to us waited around 30 mins for their dishes. Overall, I'll not be coming back here. There are much better Thai spots than this. Not to mention the parking is horrible as it was valet only on a Saturday.
