We visited Civilize Thai around 12 pm on a Sunday, and the service was immediately a standout. The woman working there was so welcoming and truly made our experience memorable. Food: We ordered the Green Curry lunch special, Crying Tiger Steak, Pad See Ew, Soft Shell Crab, Thai Tea, and Mango Sticky Rice. The Green Curry and Soft Shell Crab were my personal favorites, but everything we ordered was delicious. I love when a restaurant does multiple dishes well, and Civilize Thai definitely delivered. Nothing was a miss! The only thing I'd mention is that the mango in our Mango Sticky Rice was a little firm, which we figured might've been because mangoes weren't in season. I still enjoyed it, but it might be worth asking about the ripeness before ordering. Service: Incredibly kind and welcoming. The service was easily one of the highlights of our visit. I ordered a lunch special (spicy drunken noodle) They gave me the regular menu, which had itself repeated in the folder. I had to ask for the lunch special menu, instead of them giving it to me with the regular menu. I ordered at 2:45p Saturday afternoon and dined in. They forgot the broccoli and I asked to add egg / tofu. They served the salad, spring roll separately. Weird. Food (tasty and fresh), service (friendly, and communication is not excellent, i.e. no apologies for missing an ingredient listed on the menu or why a one-course meal is served in three separate parts) and decor (intentional) get stars, hours are short on Saturday afternoon, early September, and prices are on the higher side for Thai, but I guess that's for inflation and location. Looks like they had lower lunch prices posted in another Yelp review three months ago. Neighborhood parking only; check signs, no dedicated parking. I've been here 3 times within the last month! It's that good! Every time I've come, I've ordered something different, and been in love with it each time! Kids were craving Thai food after a day at the museum. Somehow we found this little place and arrived right when they opened for dinner. Service was great and we were seated right away. Started off with the coconut shrimp. Was crunchy and flavorful. Kids liked it so much we had to order a second serving. Son wanted pad see ew as that's his default order at any Thai restaurant we go to. It was just okay. Would probably try something else if I return. The ribeye panang curry was delicious, enjoyed it. I came here after the good reviews but I'd say it's mid. I would rank it 3.5 stars, but I'm rounding up. I had the pad see eww beef and the beef was super dry. Also had the panang curry chicken. Coming from the Bay Area there are better places where I live but this place is decent. I was surprised at the 5 star reviews. It's a cute little restaurant and was flavorful but the meats in the dishes weren't tender at all and just too dry for my liking. The lunch specials seem to be a hit with the locals here. I ordered the pork jowl and panang curry with tofu (it comes with rice). The price is a lil expensive imo for Thai take out (approximately $18-20 each(. The restaurant kinda took forever to make it but it's fine. The panang curry was very well seasoned, mild spice was actually quite mild, lots of soft tofu, and a really nice thick curry texture! Lots of other spots will have a super thin and watery curry, so I was veryyyy pleasantly surprised when I ate it. Also im happy it comes with rice!! The pork jowl... probably a must order for me going forward. I wasn't even going to order it but I saw people posting pics here of it and it looked appetizing so I got it also. So GOOD. There's a yummy char on it, it's sooo tender and juicy and lil fatty. The jeow som sauce it comes with is also SO GOOD, great balance of sweet and sour. The mango sticky rice portion was a little smaller than expected but I really liked that the sticky rice wasn't overly sweet and the mango was refreshing. Overall, the flavours for me are a little milder than what I would find in Thai town. But I liked this restaurant because the spices aren't too intense and still light yet full of flavours. I've seen this place by walking past numerous of time but never been in. Until seeing loads of post on social media that actually gave me the pushed. We happened to be in the area for a couple of hours and with lunch approaching, might as well give it a shot. They also had a good lunch menu which was also a plus for the visit. There's street metered parking along little Santa Monica. I'm not sure if there's a parking lot that's affiliated with the restaurant. It's not that big with 2 tables with umbrellas outside. Inside, there's a good amount of tables but still not overly big. We opted for outside as it was quite nice. Menu wise, we just went with the lunch specials. 14.99 for the lunch option of whatever choices you like. A few curries dish, noddle dish, orange chicken and a few other items. Each comes with a side salad, rice (noddle dishes doesn't come with rice) and an egg roll. Potion wise was quite nice. Started off with the salad which the sauce was really tasty. Basic mixed green with like a Thai dressing. We had the chicken panang which was really good. The curry was very flavorful and with the right spicy count. And also the spicy drunken noodle with beef. Most place will include a chicken/ beef to the noodles. Here, chicken is included in the price but beef was 1.00 extra. Still pretty good and the right amount of spicy. You could tastes it. And the egg roll with the sweet dipping sauce to finish off the meal. The service was nice and the food was really good. Lunch menu wise. I'm sure if lunch was good, everything on the menu would be as well. I always love a noodle soup but I don't think they have any on the menu. Would I be back, that's a yes.
