    Shrimp pad Thai

When you're 100% Asian, but have been eating American food for the last five days bc of tight schedules on vacation, it's exhilarating to have top quality, authentic Thai cuisine finally! The shrimp pad Thai was perfectly prepared, seasoned and topped with several fresh large shrimps. Good quantity = yummy leftovers.

Clean and modern indoor with cute serving plates. Their staff is polite but a bit forgetful. The drink and food took a while despite not many customers being there (around half hour wait). Came around noon on the weekend. Food was so-so in quality. If you have mild Thai craving and you aren't very picky, I think this spot could be up your alley. Thai tea is really too sweet - not up my alley. The Matcha Taro Milk was not good either. I got their mild TomYum and it was not worth it; the vegetables (such as the bell pepper) was chopped so large I wonder what is the point of having it in the dish and the protein was just lacking in flavor, the spice was just there to be spicy without much depth. The beef bowl was really disappointing; the beef tasted dry with lacking of flavor with a sprinkle of generic furikake and an egg that looks quite messy. We each only ate about 25% of the food and didn't take the rest to go. Unfortunately, it didn't fulfill either of our Thai food craving. One of the indoor seating had a lot of flies and we had to let the waiter know we'd like to sit elsewhere. Restroom? Not sure Seating? Indoor and Outdoor. A couple 2-seaters and a few 4-seater. Parking? Street Parking

The food is delicious. The quality of ingredients is savored at first bite. Everything on their menu is amazing. My favorite Thai restaurant in LA. The service is amazing. The owner is always there and takes care of us.

I was craving Thai food after a long work week, so I got pickup at Mee Dee. Pickup was fast, and soon enough, I was ready to dig in. Most of the dishes were pretty good: I especially liked my Massaman lamb curry with blue rice: I'd never had lamb in Thai cuisine before, so this was a first! Very tender and generous portion of lamb shank, all in a creamy coconut curry. It was hearty and comforting! Other decent dishes included mango sticky rice (the mango was very ripe, sweet, and melted in my mouth), chicken satay (soft and juicy, although I would've liked a bit more charred flavor), and vegan curry puff (tender and flaky crust, but the lentil filling wasn't my cup of tea). My partner had pad see ew, and unfortunately, it was our least-favorite dish. It wasn't bad, per say, but it lacked any smoky flavor and had a strange taste to it that didn't taste like pad see ew at all. Wouldn't get this again. All in all, Mee Dee is a solid place for Thai food, and I'm glad I gave it a try!

    Thai Ice Tea ($5.45)

My family and I created cheerful memories at Mee Dee Thai Kitchen (Los Angeles). The ingredients are fresh; the service is fast and friendly; and the dining area felt clean & well-maintained. The food's flavor is not the most remarkable, but its food is fresh, very satisfying, and plated beautifully. I arrived on a Saturday (around 9:20PM). We were immediately helped. Our waitress brought a bright smile. She eagerly assisted us with our orders. I ordered the Thai Ice Tea ($5.45), Pad Thai ($17.55), Tom Kha Soup ($28.55 - Mixed Seafood Hot Pot Large), and Crab Fried Rice ($27.45). The Thai Ice Tea took two minutes and 22 seconds. The Pad Thai took five minutes and 24 seconds. The Seafood Tom Kha took seven minutes and 45 seconds. And the Crab Fried Rice took nine minutes. All the food arrived very quickly!! Amazing speed!!! Regarding taste, the Thai Ice Tea tasted bitter, milky, and smooth; it was my least favorite. The Pad Thai had very moist noodles (almost mushy) and a potent oily flavor; the Pad Thai had a very simple, wet flavor. Perhaps the Pad Thai would have tasted better if I'd increased its spice level. Thankfully, the Pad Thai's shrimp arrived large, plump, and fresh The Seafood Tom Kha tasted very fresh and satisfying. I enjoyed its hot, soft fish; sweet, plump mushroom slices; and fresh, plump shrimps, mussels & scallops. Its broth also had a delightful light, bright tang flavor. Unfortunately, I didn't enjoy its bitter and grainy squid. And the Crab Fried Rice was very satisfying. This Crab Fried Rice tasted moist with the pleasant aftertaste of fresh crab. This rice's egg came very soft, and its generous shredded crab added a lovely layered texture. If I had to nitpick, some portions of the rice came very salty. Thankfully, this saltiness didn't detract too much from this satisfying experience. Regarding ambiance, Mee Dee Thai Kitchen (Los Angeles) is comfortable. The location is very clean, the furniture is well-maintained, and its minimalistic decor had a lovely plant theme. The location had inside and outside seating; however, its bathroom is located outside. There are three flat screen tv's by its counter with english captioning. Also, I enjoyed its instrumental saxophone music in the background. If I had to nitpick, the location's ventilation could have been strengthened. The inside felt a little airy, but I also felt a lingering stuffiness. Overall, I associate freshness, speed, and good service with Mee Dee Thai Kitchen (Los Angeles). Its flavors can be worked upon; however, the portions are satisfying, large, and decorated beautifully. My family and I had a very pleasant time. 4.5 out of 5

We came on a Saturday night before a movie and had a great time. The food is so good, and stand out against other Thai places in the area. We got the yellow curry and hung lay curry with blue rice. The hung lay curry is a unique item on the menu, I'd never had it before. It's more of a thick beef stew. Really good if you're not feeling traditional curry. Overall this is a great spot in Fairfax, near the amc.

I don't want anyone reading this to not dine here because of this review. It's not a bad Thai restaurant, it's just not the best Thai food I have had especially at this price point. They don't have Spicy Eggplant with Chicken here, my usual Thai dish. Instead I had the Pad Thai with Chicken and Shrimp ($21) and my friend had Pad Se Ew. Their preparation of the chicken and shrimp is excellent, but they don't give you a lot of it. Only 2 Shrimp for $25 with tax! Taste was okay--nothing outstanding. The presentation was excellent you can see in the photo. The Pad Se was okay too--nothing outstanding and lacking in vegetables. Atmosphere is fine and they have an outside dining area. Bathrooms are outside in the back down a long double doored hallway filled with supply boxes. (Some women may want an escort.) Parking is free at meters on the street after 8 or at paid meters anytime. While I would not come back here, you may like the food so give it try--everyone has a different taste in what they like... The service was polite and efficient.

    Hung Lay Curry
    Risa M.

Wow! What a gem on the busy street of La Brea. We ordered the crying tiger, pad see ew, and hung lay curry. Everything was flavorful. The service was very attentive. A great discovery was the Hung Lay Curry - curry with braised pork, cashew nuts and ginger, a specialty of Northern Thailand regions. It was very comforting yet slightly tangy and refreshing with the hint of tamarind (which I am not usually fan of but wow, this dish was really complete with it). The best Thai curry I've ever had! I forgot to take a pic, so I am attaching the menu pic. The dish was exactly how this pic looks like. They have unique items like Tom Yum fried rice, chicken etc. Lots more to try!

Thai food is my absolute favorite cuisine, so my expectations are always high. This place definitely did not disappoint. Came here on a Friday night, and it was relatively empty. Parking is street parking, but there was plenty on the busy street in front. Ordered the yellow curry with tofu, krapow moo krob with fried egg, and khao soi with beef. AMAZING! Loved every single dish. The pork was extremely crispy, the yellow curry was flavorful, and the beef was tender. Would DEFINITELY come again. Service was also great!

Such a wonderful Sunday night surprise. This Thai spot is exceptional. We eat Thai food often, but everything here--from the flavors to the service to the perfect execution of each dish--is on another level. The crispy pork is a must if you eat pork--so worth it. And the green curry? It tasted just like the one I had the very first time in a small fisherman's village in Thailand.

Amazing food and flavors. This place never disappoints. We got the crybaby noodles , Panang curry chicken and sticky rice and pad kaprow mince chicken. The medium spice is perfect and fragrant

(Tookout 05/16/24 TH @ 5:00pm): This Thai kitchen had me coming back for seconds! Thanks to an earlier Yelp Elite event that introduced me to Mee Dee Thai Kitchen, I decided to make another trip since I was working in the area. I loved Thai cuisine (spicier the better!) and would eat it every day if I could. My first visit left a favorable impression on me, so why not give them another shot and explore their menu further? Would "me" be delighted with other options from this Mid-City/Westside Thai kitchen!? PURCHASE Vegan Curry Puff ($5.75): Filled with mushrooms, caramelized onions and potatoes, all hand-wrapped in a flaky puff pastry, this hand-sized empanada was steaming hot and aromatic when I split it open https://www.yelp.com/user_local_photos?userid=8jVT2inwc8GIQ6sH2UG9Vw&start=0&select=WJhNodbVx8SDtUG-q9NCEQ to reveal its goodness. Flavorful, but I wished it was spicier while the pastry had a light butteriness to it. I enjoyed it although it was certainly more expensive than your comparable empanada. https://www.yelp.com/user_local_photos?userid=8jVT2inwc8GIQ6sH2UG9Vw&start=0&select=sAnpEmilJY9GEei6yKNHbA Tom Yum Chicken Wings 4pc ($12.95): Lightly-battered fried chicken wings tossed in dry Tom-Yum seasoning, each piece was juicy, plump, and had a crazy crispy crackling skin reminiscent of Kentucky Fried Chicken's extra crispy chicken back in the day. There was a hint of spiciness, but it was the skin that truly won me over! https://www.yelp.com/user_local_photos?userid=8jVT2inwc8GIQ6sH2UG9Vw&start=0&select=4SOyGRHUclCeym8-9pmQoA Krapow Chicken w/Fried Egg ($16.95): A mix of ground chicken, onion, bell peppers, and long beans all tossed in a sweet and spicy sauce, served with rice and a crispy fried egg, this was a decently-portioned lovely bowl of fresh ingredients with enough sweet and spiciness throughout. The fried egg was a nice touch, but I wished the yolk was more wet, and the rice was unusual to me (I would've been fine with simple steamed white rice). Otherwise, this was a nice meal. https://www.yelp.com/user_local_photos?userid=8jVT2inwc8GIQ6sH2UG9Vw&start=0&select=NBHgBPiWctQnYW1z0KsFOQ SERVICE I was greeted by a warm woman behind the counter. I already knew what I wanted to order, so once I placed that, she kindly offered me a glass of water while I waited. About fifteen minutes later, my food was packaged up and ready to go. Everything was simple and straightforward - khàawp khun kráp! PARKING (FREE) No lots to speak of whatsoever. There appeared to be plenty of street parking along the main drag of La Brea Ave. and all surrounding streets (I parked a block away and walked it) - 'nuff said. ATMOSPHERE, DÉCOR, AMBIENCE A bright clean simple layout with several dining tables inside along with a handful of stools at the bar while there appeared to be a communal outdoor area shared with a next door business. Decorations were kept to a minimum. Plenty of natural lighting came in through the large glass windows and doors while electric recessed ceiling lights and basket-looking fixtures https://www.yelp.com/user_local_photos?userid=8jVT2inwc8GIQ6sH2UG9Vw&start=0&select=OK8MULOX-u0fsnNJsVDBEw filled in the rest. There were several TVs only at the bar https://www.yelp.com/user_local_photos?userid=8jVT2inwc8GIQ6sH2UG9Vw&start=0&select=zoKbHUvmRCG6EC0TjToUVw while pop music played in the background. https://www.yelp.com/user_local_photos?userid=8jVT2inwc8GIQ6sH2UG9Vw&start=0&select=_PPQ_5ftFR1sGzRfDNLgSg ATTIRE Totally casual, so I would normally be in a t-shirt, boardshorts, and flip-flops. OVERALL My second meal from Mee Dee Thai KItchen was just as good as the first time, and I definitely would consider another visit if I were in the area (frankly, it's not as convenient for me just to go). Personally, I liked my Thai food more on the "dirty" side which provided me with a more perceived authenticity; whereas, I felt their food was more elevated and "cleaner". Regardless, it all still tasted great. I loved the food, I found the prices to be reasonable although maybe a tad elevated, and the service was efficient and friendly. I found very good value based on the prices, service, and experience noted above (TOTAL would-be paid experience was around $39.00 BEFORE any discounts/tip). And, they accepted my credit card of choice... AMEX! 4.0 STARS

Wow, we were blown away by Mee dee Thai. Shoutout to Yelp for another great find. We really loved the extensive menu and clean/fresh ambience. It's so hard to find a good authentic Thai Place. We were a bit skeptical at first because we were the only ones there. However, we were thoroughly surprised and enjoyed every dish we had. On top of that, the owner was extremely kind and provided great service. She made sure we had everything we needed and always checked on us. We loved the authenticity and the special-ness of each dish. We tried a bit of everything and I can confidently say we loved it all. I don't think you can go wrong with anything TBH. We got it bookmarked for next time. It's a bit of a drive for us, but we'll definitely make the trip out to Mee Dee Thai soon. We loved our dinner. Thank you Mee Dee Thai!

My friend and I always said we need to try new restaurants but fail every time because we always ended up craving Marugame Monzo. They literally have the best cream udon in my opinion! They got the ratio RIGHHTTTT!! It's creamy but not crazy creamy that all you taste is heavy cream. I can taste the flavor from the protein!! The hand crafted udon noodles always cooked to perfection with the perfect texture. The noodles soaked up the sauce up so well!! I have tried different cream udon dishes here - the famous sea urchin cream udon, the carbonara udon, the mentai cream udon, the butter squid udon, etc... My fav would definitely be the mentai cream udon, as you get lots of yummy seafood (shrimps and scallops) in the sauce. The butter squid cream udon is also really good as well!! I like to pair my cream udon with a side of chicken karage!! I really like the batter that they use for the chicken! It's crunchy and airy and very well seasoned!! Service has always been amazing! You get seated fairly quickly and the staff are super attentive! They always check up on you to see how you are doing. The restaurant is small and they make the best of the space they have. I like the glass window/bar area where you can see the chef make the udon noodles!!

There is sometimes street parking but the availability is rough, it's tough to park, and even one of the meters we ended up at just didn't work. They only charge a $5 cash service charge though, which isn't bad. We were lucky to be seated right away, even in a packed restaurant. The restaurant has a surprisingly modern design, and is comfortable for as small as it is. We were quickly served their signature kimchis and barley rice. The kimchi, particularly the yeolmu (young summer radish) kimchi, has a unique flavor profile well suited to their food. We ordered 2 bowls of their plain kalgooksu, 1 bibim milmyun, and 1 tteokbokki. The food came out fairly quickly. The kalgooksu was as expected the star of the show. The anchovy broth brings a savory complexity that seems impossible for a soup made from just dried fish and a few other ingredients. It even has a rich, almost thick, quality to it that is surprising for a fish broth. Their noodles, the titular kalgooksu, have the signature irregularity and chew of knife cut noodles. I appreciate the vegetables that always come in kalgooksu, like potato, pumpkin, and zucchini, which offer an earthy heartiness to the light soup. My only complaint is that the potato is in huge irregular chunks, and is barely cooked, though I feel like I have had this issue with many of the kalgooksu bowls I've had over the years. The bibim milmyun was solid. I think that I prefer the texture and flavor of naengmyeon buckwheat noodles, but the milmyun, which are made with mostly wheat flour, still provide a satisfying chew. The sauce tasted bright and fresh, especially with a splash of added vinegar. It also came with a small side portion of spicy pork and some rice paper to wrap. The tteokbokki was the one let down of the meal. To be fair, I wasn't expecting much out of tteokbokki at all restaurant like this whose specialty is essentially the opposite. I ordered the tteokbokki as a "safe pick" for a picky eater in the group. It turned out to be a bit mediocre in our opinion, and that friend ended up enjoying their kalgooksu anyways. If you're looking to try this dish, it's definitely one of if not the best I've had in Southern California, so I'd totally recommend it. I'll also warn to steer clear of the Garden Grove restaurant of the same name and specialty. I think it's a disappointing mimicry of this place.
