My first time having inside cuisine and I was not disappointed. This place is a hidden gem. The beautiful interior decor was cozy and inviting, with mellow music to set the vibe. I got the Street Food Adventure, an impressive 8 course meal that includes roti bread, salad, mie tek tek noodles, fried rice, chicken skewers, fried chicken, garlic chips, and black rice pudding for dessert. Food was incredibly flavorful, perfectly seasoned with just the right amount of spice. Savory. Delicious. Tantalizing. Can't recommend this enough! Oh, and Service was fast and friendly.

had this placed saved for a while but was disappointed by the flavor ): Indonesian flavors are robust and bold- not what I got in my dishes last night. beef rendang 26$: 6.2/10: enjoyed the coconut notes but the dish was small, beef was not tender, and plate didn't come out hot. comes with two small flatbreads char kway teow 20$: 7.5/10 lovely savory noodle wok flavors but again, small portion for the price and didn't come out hot, just warm. service was nothing to complain about, but the food seems to be catered to the palates of the city's demographics. for more authentic indonesian food, try long beach or thai town!

If you're in Venice and want something different, you must try this Simpang Venice that offers Southeast Asian flavors. I love everything here from the decor to the food, everything is excellent. Excellent flavor, variety, service, and atmosphere. Here's what I ordered: Gah Kangkung $15.50 Branzino $22.95 Coconut Rice $3.50 Martabak Manis $5.95 The rice, fish and vegetables complimented each other. All the flavors exploded in my mouth so I truly enjoyed my meal. I can't wait to go back to try other dishes in the menu.

Mango sticky rice, you will always be famous to me.... Seriously some of the best food we ate while visiting LA. This unassuming, strip-mall spot is incredible. We weren't super hungry so we went on a tour of the appetizer and dessert sections. I'd never had anything like the roti paratha before. It's a salty, flaky, pastry, croissant-like bread with a curry dipping sauce. It was buttery, light, flavorful, just amazing. The lumpia and wontons were also amazing. Everything hit the mark. I'm a sucker for mango sticky rice... and this was some of the best I've ever had. Lordy lord I could eat that every day for the rest of my life. Sweet, heavy rice with a kinda crispy outer shell. Mmmmmm. They did a great job decorating the inside. It all feels modern and cozy.

This is my favorite Indonesian spot in LA! You definitely have to visit. They have really cute interior! And the food selection is unreal! I usually come here for takeout, but when I have time, I will love to dine in and they do have a tasting for two which is such a great deal cause you get to try a little bit of all of their favorite and popular dishes! The service here is so amazing. I absolutely love the staff here they treat you like family! There's parking in the small lot in front of their restaurant and I highly recommend if you are wanting to try something new in the area!

Roti Paratha and Penyet Fried chicken

Stopped by for a snack after an event. First time having the fried chicken... I'm Filipino, so the light crispy-ness of the chicken is very familiar to me. And this slapped! Last time I was at this location, the restaurant was smaller so I was delighted to see the decor level up. This location and the Palms location tie for best Indonesian/Southeast cuisine in LA in my opinion for the value. If you come here, try something with a bit of spice ;)

My boyfriend and I came here on a Saturday night at 7:30PM and got seated immediately. The ambiance was very nice and chill, and the lighting was dim and sultry. We ordered the roti paratha and a yellowtail ceviche from the Chef Specials menu. The roti paratha was so good. The roti was buttery, crispy, flaky ~ and the coconut curry dipping sauce was super rich and flavorful. The ceviche was very refreshing, but I thought the fish quality could have been better. For our mains, we got the Beef Rendang and Mie Tek Tek. Both were delicious! The beef tasted like a soy and coconut braised beef, and paired well with the flatbread. The noodles were very flavorful with a savory and sweet profile, similar to the flavor of pad see ew. Overall great experience and the service was wonderful!

Simpang Venice is a gem. The Nasi Goreng Jagger was the star of the show--smoky, bold, and seriously crave-worthy. The Cah Kangkung was another standout: garlicky, fresh, and perfectly cooked with that wok-charred flavor that makes veggies anything but boring. The disappointing dish was Hainanese Chicken it was good but it lacked some flavor. I wanted it to have better tasting rice and for the sauce to have more punched. Service was on point--friendly and attentive without hovering--and the ambiance struck that sweet spot between cozy and lively. Bottom line: amazing food, great energy, and the kind of spot you'll keep coming back to. I know I will.

Good spot. Located on Lincoln in a busy area, sitting near the window is great people watching. The inside seats a decent amount of diners. The bustling flavors of the foods mix well and settles nicely on the palate. I enjoyed Strawberry Soju with Sambal Wonton to start with Wok-Charred Basil Fried Rice which was delicious. The Beef Shoulder Smoor was tender and flavorful, especially paired with the onions. For dessert, Indonesian Black Rice Pudding added a not too sweet touch to the delicious meal.

Cute Indonesian spot with another location in Palms. My boyfriend loves the roti paratha and the mie tek tek, and he always get it when we come. There is a small parking lot as well as street parking. The Thai tea comes with garnishings and they do have cocktails/alcohol. You can make reservations in advance but we walked in on a weeknight and there was no wait if you go later in the evening. Portions are generous and I had leftovers for lunch the following day. Credit cards accepted and they'll bring the reader out to you.

    The #8 Nasi Bungkus

i recommend this location because of the ease of parking, as I know the other location can be pretty difficult to find parking, even on the street. i have been to Simpang many times, but only in the Castle Heights location. I feel like the food and everything is the same, but found parking much easier. what we got: roti paratha (10/10 yums): MUST GETTT. i love how buttery and flaky everything is. I also LOVEEE the sauce it comes with. I always keep the sauce and dip other things in it later! they also have a vegetarian version I believe (we got it at the other location before) The #8 Nasi Bungkus (10/10 yums): I feel like some people can get intimidated by this dish because of the sheer variety in the dish, but everything mashes together very well. the chicken is quite tender and goes very well with the seasoned rice. Char kway teow (10/10 yums): my go-to dish. it has more of a wok flavor and i love the combination of the fish balls with the noodles.

    Thai Milk Tea

I love Indonesian food and this place hit the spot! Inside it was super clean and I loved the atmosphere. It was very comfy, yet colorful with a modern vibe. I started out with a Thai Milk Tea. The presentation was beautiful and it tasted amazing! I loved the cream on top. For my entree I ordered the Nasi Lemak. I loved the curry chicken! The chicken came out a little cold though and wish there was more curry that I could eat with my rice. The chicken itself was super tender though and the rice was fluffy and delicious. I loved the peanuts and my family liked the crunchy little fried fish. The sambal that it was served with seemed house made. it wasn't too spicy and it went well with the chicken and rice. The service here was great overall. Our waiter was super nice and service was quick. I would definitely come here again to try some other dishes.

Simpang (with two locations in LA) is a real solid place to get Indonesian food in town and this location particularly steps up in terms of ambiance. It is a casual yet elegant and nice restaurant where you'll find all sorts of dishes ranging from fried chicken to noodle dishes. Their cocktails are pretty tasty and unique as well with some Asian flavors. Staff is nice, even if it may at times feel a little understaffed. Plaza parking available.

The veggies soaked up the liquids quickly and began to get a little soggy. However the veggies were savory. The dish could use more greens. Let them know to cook without shrimp if you have shrimp allergies The Nasi bunkus was delicious. Traditional Indonesian food would typically have a lot more tumeric and spicyness but this dish felt more streamlined. You can ask for more turmeric and spicyness if you prefer. Also The chicken was flavorful but a bit dry. The Riice was good, flavorful and not greasy. Perkedelle was tender but did not have as much crispyness as other perkedelle that ive had. The potato inside was not as light and fluffy as expected (compared to other perkedelle) and was instead on the slightly dense side. It was still good. The Bakwang jagung, or corn fritters, were both crispy and a bit dense and sticky. It was savory and was not greasy at all. We liked this dish. Es doger was good BUT had tough meat husks in the drink. The coconut flavor and bits were a nice addition to the drink. The casava and condensed milk had the right amount without being overpowering. If not for the husks in the drink, i would recommend it. Es cendol was heavy on the condensed milk and slightly overrpowered the pandan jelly and bits of jackfruit. It was ok. Overall this restaurant is an option for the area if you are looking Indonesian food.

Of course, I had to order their rendang dish with their nasi kuning (yellow rice)/coconut rice mix and side of tempe. And of course, es cendol was a must! It was absolutely delicious!! Being a fellow indo, it's often hard to come by good rendang that's not made in someone's home kitchen :) All to say, I was pleasantly surprised to find such good indo food in Upland. Definitely coming back to try everything else on the menu! Logistics: decent amount of seating with a cute cafe feel, card/cash accepted, easy parking, and kind staff

I love the decor of the cafe, it's very homey but also exuberates the love for Indonesia. It's a loving mom and pop kind of business! We took our food to go because they looked swamped. We ordered the special plate, the gado-gado vegetarian dish, and a bunch of pastries from their small baked goods section. The special combo rice plate included a piece of chicken on a bed of shredded cabbage, what looked like two types of rice, some beef rendang, a side of curry that had green beans, onions, and chayote. And a nice fried boiled egg. I might be missing a meat, but it was a really wonderful sampler of some of their delicious dishes and thought it was great. The gado gado was actually delicious, I love their peanut sauce that goes great with the tofu, melon/radish, and egg! The cocopandan soda was pretty good, tasted like a cream soda/italian cream soda but when you get that cocopandan froth it's definitely more distinct! I don't think it has a strong pandan coconut flavor but it's good! I actually really liked their pastries--we had the Risole, Lemper, Dutch roll, and banana chocolate roll. When we come back I'd really like to try some noodle dishes and their Kaya toast! Risole was delicious, the roll is soft and tastes like a chicken pot pie, it comes with this absolutely addicting orange sauce, which was my personal favorite from the ones we tried. The lemper was warm, sticky rice well made with a sort of curry chicken inside. We had more of the addicting orange sauce. The Dutch roll is beef and kale mix, reminded me of a meat pie, it was still crispy on the outside. The banana chocolate roll is exactly what you'd expect! Pretty good. We enjoyed the food at kedai and appreciate this family carrying a big dream. You can feel the love they put into their pastries. We'll see you again soon Kedai!

Our 20th wedding anniversary was spent at our true guilty pleasure: Dija Mara…read more We would have loved to get everything on the menu but honestly we get stuffed really quickly and tried to stick with the perfected dishes: Grilled Roti with Lamb Jus Curry Sea Bream Ceviche Actually we noticed the menu didn't mention "Sea Bream" anymore and just said "Local Ceviche". Did they change fish? Tasted the same basically. Still amazing as always. We also tried some new dishes: Beef Tartare Chicken Thigh Skewers Green Curry Mussels The Beef Tartare was just okay. It's the only dish I probably would not ever order again. It wasn't bad, but compared to every other banger on the menu, it's last. Something has to be last. The Chicken Thigh Skewers were AMAZING! OMG, so much flavor in the chicken but the sauce really drove it overboard. Wow. These are a must try, you won't regret it. And lastly, the Green Curry Mussels blew us away. I love mussels and always order it whenever I see it on a menu. We devoured all of the mussels (and added the $9 Roti) and even got a container to-go to save the broth, lol. Truly another banger from Dija Mara. I really appreciate that the menu changes periodically without removing the veteran dishes we continue to enjoy. Just want to mention something besides the culinary spectacles. Dija Mara's decor is every bit as memorable as its food. The artwork isn't an afterthought--it's part of the experience. The dining room manages to feel both trendy and intimate at the same time, while the graffiti-covered back wall adds a playful, street-art feel that contrasts beautifully with the polished food and cocktails. The result is a space that feels creative, unpretentious, and genuinely cool. The industrial concrete and reclaimed wood elements give it a modern edge, while the Indonesian-inspired art creates a sense of place that feels completely unique in North County. This is really our happy place and I hope it never changes.

What a disappointment. I had high expectations due to the Michelin bib Gourmand award, but the…read moreflavors fell extremely short. The restaurant was fairly empty although Resy wouldn't take reservations. Plenty of bar seating. The service was fair, not particularly warm or engaging, which was fine. The food was alluring and beautiful, but the flavors were salty, flat, and mushy. Starting with the Paloma, it was nothing special. Just something you could get with a well happy hour special. Serviceable but unremarkable. Very Instagrammable, however. The pork belly was nicely charred and had nice bite sized morsels on the skewer, good texture, but the sauce was very salty, almost bitter. Forced myself to eat the 2nd skewer, but could not push through the last 2. In contradistinction, the beef rendang was almost bland, like a microwaveable peanut butter Hormel beef stew, and the cardinal sin - the rice underneath was mushy. That was what sealed the nail on the coffin. Bland, albeit tender short rib, on top of smushy rice. Dead. I barely ate one of the 2 pieces of ribs and couldn't do more. The staff wanted to see if I wanted a take out container. When you see a customer that disengaged with the food, you'd better be wary. Being Asian, I don't like to waste food, but when it's so not good, I'd rather walk away and get something else than to finish a terrible meal. Many diners have a millennia of choices in this price point. Sadly, not sure how this restaurant got recognition because it's half as delicious as your typical neighborhood Thai restaurant. Banana Leaf at the Original farmers market in LA is better, though humble and homely. Just very disappointing. Hope it was an off night and that others have a better experience.

They really keep the authenticity and quality at a high level. The food is amazing and every dish we have tried has been consistently good. It can get a little pricey if you order a bunch of dishes with a group but it is completely worth it for the quality you are getting. One nice bonus is their loyalty program. If you spend over 50 dollars they give you a stamp card and once you collect ten stamps you get around 20 dollars off or a free dish. Definitely a good incentive to keep coming back. If you are looking for authentic Indonesian food in the Rosemead area I honestly do not think there is a better option than Medan Kitchen. Highly recommend giving it a try.
