    Nasi Kuning
    Carlo G.

If you're craving Indonesian food on the cheaper side in the Culver/Westside area, this spot is a decent option. I visited this restaurant on an early Monday evening and there were little to no patrons there. The interior is small, but comfy and there's also an outdoor seating area. There were a lot of different things on the menu, but I ended up ordering the Nasi Kuning because it came with a bit of everything. Firstly, the tumeric fried chicken. It was good and crispy, but on the dryer side which I don't prefer, but a lot of Southeast Asian cuisine likes their meat well done. Next is the yellow coconut milk rice which was flavorful and fluffy. The egg balado and perkedel were good, but I was a bit disappointed with the fried noodles. They seemed old and not very flavorful. This was all a good portion size for $16.50 and I left pretty full. The staff here are super nice and even asked me if I was Indonesian haha! There's also a parking structure behind the restaurant you can park at. Overall, I think this is a solid Indo restaurant and while it's not mind-blowing, I'd still recommend.

A gem of a find! It's a refreshing change of flavors in the asian food scene on this side of LA. The Sate has a mild sweetness with the creamy peanut butter. Beef potato had a nice little kick. Soto Mie was not that spicy but tasty. Tender beef chunks and the cabbage comes together nicely. Great flavors and great price. Would definitely come back again to try their Nasi Goreng.

Best Indonesian food in LA for me! They introduced the dish in a wrap paper. I felt lik unwrapping a gift. We ordered perdkel (potatop) , chiken sati and nasi bungkus (beef ,rice , egg , chicken and greens) very delicious Prices are great! Restaurants cleaness and the service is very great! Staff are friendly and professional. They gave us great suggestions for food. Vines are comfortable.

Ambiance: it's a family style Indonesian restaurant with limited seats inside, and a small cozy patio outside, and it's a poplar takeout place serving regulars nearby Service: friendly and attentively refilled water Food: plenty of skewers, noodles and rice dishes, combos have the best value here CHICKEN SATE - *** Soy marinaded chicken pieces in sticks BEEF POTATO - ***** Dry marinaded beef topped with homemade balado sauce, tender and juicy, highly recommend SHRIMP BALADO - **** Grilled shrimp with homemade balado sauce, tomato, & scallion, light refreshing taste, recommend BABI - *** Sweet soy marinaded pork in sticks PERKEDEL - *** Indonesian fried patties made of mashed potatoes, minced meat, & scallion, soft texture NASI KUNING - **** Yellow coconut milk rice with a side of Turmeric fried chicken, Egg balado, Perkedel & Fried noodle, variety of ingredients, recommend SOTO MIE - ** Mildly spicy beef based noodle soup, with egg noodles, shredded cabbage, diced tomatoes, mild flavor, not spicy Price: generous portions and affordable prices, about $25 per person for a fulfilling meal

The actual nasi bungkus before I inhaled it

Food: 10/10 nasi bungkus is a definite! Sambal terasi, pempek, sate ayam, nasi goreng, soda gembira gado-gado are amazing! I love their sambal terasi! It's close to my preferred taste and so good in my palate. Service: Fast, attentive and accommodating to us as first comers. They gave great recommendation and are nice people Ambience: I don't need great ambience to enjoy good food. I need real good food to enjoy. I still want to comment this place is clean and tidy.

Use to pass by this place almost everyday when I use to live down the street, never tried it, now I have been coming here frequently. Food here has so much flavor and great portions. I highly recommend the Soto Mie and the Nasi Kuning. Service is great and ambiance is just a basic mom and pop restaurant. Give it a try!

Had a Mie Ayam craving and ordered it here. The dish had all the components, smell, flavor of a legit indo mie ayam, including the broth, veggie, and meatballs. However, the noodle type was a bit different from what indonesians would typically use, which is completely fine for me. I'd say my craving was satisfied and the prices are friendly. Plenty of parking too. I really enjoyed my meal and will absolutely be coming back. :)

Air chips. Not sure of the menu name but really good. We had garlic and the shrimp flavor.

So delicious. Very simple restaurant with cool wall art and artifacts and music playing via music videos. The food is delicious and affordable. It's nice to see a restaurant in LA keep things simple so going out can be affordable. Ended up going back a few nights later. Highly recommend for inside dining or takeout.

I think I saw this place pop up on my social media which is how I got on my radar. I signed up for the newsletter and did a pre-order when they did a pop-up. I don't have a lot of experience with Bali/ Indonesian food, but this was such a fun, novel experience and the food was really tasty. I ordered nasi bungkus, the kueh lapis, and the es cendol. From their website, the nasi bungus contained the following. STEAMED RICE Fragrant lemongrass rice made with coconut milk, pandan leaves, and galangal SAYUR URAB Long bean and bean sprout dish with toasted coconut and kencur COCONUT CHICKEN CURRY Pasture-raised chicken, slow-cooked for six hours MOTHER-IN-LAW EGG Hard-boiled egg marinated in tamari and topped with chili paste TEMPE OREK Fried soy bean cake in a sweet and spicy glaze SAMBAL GORENG Spicy Thai chilies, shallots, and garlic, fried and finished with coarse salt KACANG BALI Bali-style salted peanuts ABON BABI Traditional dried pork garnish The kueh lapis is a fun colorful, coconutty dessert that is nice, thick and chewy. The cendol is a nice desserty drink made of coconut milk, pandan jelly, red bean, and diced jackfruit. The drink reminds me of something similar in the Vietnamese culture. I was a fan. The desert was beautiful as well, and had such a fun look to it. I like the chewiness, and it was fun the peel the layers. The nasi bungkus itself was a nice combination of flavors and textures. I bought some of that chili stuff in a jar and added some extra on top. I liked that there was a kick, but not so much where I started sweating. The spice was a nice level. I got a little excited and ordered a lot of food and was totally full by the time I finished my items. Pick up itself was really easy. After you pre-order early in the week when they do a pop-up, there's a time window where you pick up - and in this case it was Friday afternoon - night. When I got there, they were friendly, and just directed me towards the counter, where they did final prep to give me my food. They even gave me some reheating instructions just in case. Super friendly and you can tell they put a lot of care into their product. I hope they have all the success in the world and would like to order from them again.

Ordering was quick and we were checked in on a handful of times. The staff were attentive and smiley. I got the Nasi Lemak as that was a personal favourite of mine growing up. It didn't exactly hit the spot but it definitely surprised me in a good way. The chopped up chicken allowed for a crispier exterior but also meant less juicy meat. Cabbage as a side was new to me, but was fresh and creamy. Solid sambal, though I'd personally like it a touch hotter. Overall a different take that works and makes it a wonderful, easy to eat rice dish. Chicken satay was great! Nutty sauce with a crispy garnish. It's missing the smoky flavour but the meat was cooked very well. A casual, family-friendly, hole-in-the-wall restaurant that lives up to it's name.

They serve authentic Indonesian foods that remind me of Jakarta. Today I was really craving Ayam Goreng Kremes, because it's been many years since the last time I had it. Nasi Ayam Kremes is a combination of Indonesian style fried chicken, white rice, perkedel (fried potato pattie), fried tofu, fried tempeh, and sayur asem soup. The chicken is deep fried after it's been cooked in herbs and fully marinated. Very flavorful as I can really taste the different herbs and spices. Over the fried chicken is a generous serving of savory crunchy crumbs. There's also a side of medium spicy house sambal. I would recommend adding some kecap manis (Indonesian sweet soy sauce) and use this as dipping sauce. The half fried chicken is rather small, about the size of a Cornish hen. The soup is pretty good, even though I am not a fan of sayur asem soup. This tamarind-based soup contains green beans, chayote, corn rounds, and peanuts. The deep fried marinated tofu and tempeh are so yummy! They truly remind me of the good ol' days living in Indonesia, as they are the staple foods of the locals. The perkedel is just passable, possibly because it is served cold. Unfortunately, it isn't as crispy as it should be. The restaurant is small. Other than the kitchen crew, only one person was doing all the work. Good and very friendly service. My order did take a long time, however. If you're in a rush, you may want to eat somewhere else. Indo Bistro is the place where you really want to "santai" which means relax, take it easy. Indo Bistro is an Indonesian restaurant, mini-mart hybrid. They sell a variety of pre-packaged Indonesian snacks, shelf stable groceries, and also freshly-made market snacks, such as pastel, lemper, bakcang, rempeyek, etc. I also tried their savory snack Lemper, which is sticky rice stuffed with shredded chicken that's been cooked in coconut milk. After it is wrapped in fresh banana leaf, it is then char-grilled. Their lemper is really good, but very greasy. It's basically food and lip gloss in one. BOGO Lol Next time when I'm craving more Indonesian food, I'll be coming back to Indo Bistro. They have really good chicken satays.
