Cobi's is truly one of those special places that you never forget. From our very first visit to our wedding dinner, everything about our experience was absolutely incredible. We originally came to Cobi's to try the food and see if it might be the right place to host our intimate wedding dinner. We tried just about everything, and before we even finished that first meal, it was an absolute YES. The food was phenomenal, the service was amazing, and the atmosphere was exactly what we were looking for. The restaurant itself is so beautiful and unique. It has this calm, elegant, quaint feel that somehow manages to be both fancy and incredibly comfortable. The outdoor area feels like the most charming little secret garden, while the inside is just as beautiful. I absolutely love all of the different mismatched china and thoughtful details throughout the restaurant. Nothing feels overly staged or stuffy--it just has so much character and warmth. And then there is the food. INCREDIBLE. Everything we tried on our first visit was delicious, but seeing our family experience it at our wedding dinner made it even more special. Every single person was completely blown away by the food. We heard over and over again how amazing everything was, which is exactly what you hope for when choosing a restaurant for such an important day. The service is just as memorable. From the very first phone call before we had even visited, Aaron was amazing. Then we met him in person and somehow he was even better! He was also there for our wedding dinner, and I genuinely just love him. He made us feel so welcomed and cared for throughout the entire experience. April was incredibly kind as well, and honestly, the entire staff was wonderful. There is something special about being somewhere where you can tell the people genuinely care about your experience. For our wedding dinner, we had the outdoor area completely to ourselves, and it could not have been more perfect. It was intimate, elegant, romantic, and exactly what we envisioned for our small celebration. We had a car service for our wedding day, but on our first visit we easily found street parking. The location is also fantastic--just a block from the beach and water, which makes the whole experience even better. I truly cannot say enough wonderful things about Cobi's. From casually walking in for the first time to ultimately trusting them with one of the most important dinners of our lives, they exceeded every expectation. Cozy little place, food is pretty good but nothing to write home about. The oxtail was great though, and everything had the perfect amount of spice and was tolerable for someone who can barley handle spiciness. One annoying thing though was that we put in our order and our server went into the kitchen. We waived him down 2 minutes (literally two minutes or less) later and asked if we could change something on our order. He said no, because they "already started our order". We were asking to change a main, which came out 25+ minutes later, after our appetizers... seemed a bit unusual for this kind of restaurant and perhaps like he didn't feel like dealing with altering a ticket. read more

With its prestigious Michelin Guide Bib Gourmand designation, Cobi's has been on the go to list for a hot minute and we finally got to go!! We made reservation on Resy for a Wednesday evening, and they do get quite busy during dinner hour so try to be as timely as possible. Each dish was so unique and looked so tasty, we definitely over ordered and had to try a bit of everything. The place was so cute, perfect for families and girl's night! For starters we got the Kampachi, yellowtail in a coconut dressing with lime leaf oil and green chili. I was fiending for more but I had to hold myself back from ordering more. Normally I'm not a fan of curry puffs, but these were too hard to stop eating, especially with the tamarind dip. Entrees! We got one too many but it was still worth. The Nasi Goreng was flavorful but a bit on the spicy side when it first came out. Beef Rendang was one of our personal favorites, especially with the side of squash, super rich and yummy. Rice and Roti made great additions to it as well. And finally, one of their specials of the day: Roast Duck with Vegetables. Came here on the fly for one of my birthday dinners, and I'm glad we did. 5/5 Cobi's immediately stands out with its interior. Colorful wallpaper, vintage decor, live plants, and even the turquoise bathroom details give the place a fun, artsy vibe without feeling overdone. The food was AMAZING. The butter chicken was rich and packed with flavor, while the branzino had perfectly crisp skin and a yellow curry with a subtle seafood twist. Don't skip the roti--it was perfect for soaking up both curries. The kingfish sashimi wasn't picturesque, but the flavor was outstanding. That coconut lime sauce was so good I could've drank it, and the curry pastries were another favorite. Our waiter ended the night by bringing out ice cream for my birthday, which was such a nice surprise. Just a heads-up: it's not complimentary--we noticed it was on the bill afterward. The food here is amazing. Stopped here for brunch and ordered the Butter Masala Eggs and Rendang and Dal Roti Wraps -- sooo delicious. The ambiance is very homey and the emphasis on nature with lots of wood, greenery and flowers. Love that they use a variety of floral patterned dish ware. Really cute restaurant but food was not up to par for us. Food overall was fresh and tasted good, but the flavor profile was not there. Food 3/5 Roti $5 - Can't go wrong here. Curry Puffs $14 - The most flavorful dish of them all. Came out piping hot. Pork Dumplings $16 - The unique sauce paired well with the dumplings. Beef Rendang $28 - My partner liked the dish, the flavor was not impressive for me as someone with a Malaysian background. Butter Chicken $22 - Was a miss for the both of us. Jasmine Rice $4.50 - It drives me up the wall when rice does not come with the meal, which is standard here in LA, unfortunately. To balance the sauce and protein, you need rice. The Pork Dumplings with the sauce are a great combo & I loved the different textures. The Crispy Pork Belly Salad had the best pork belly pieces, I couldn't get enough of it. Extremely cute, green, and well decorated. Price was extremely reasonable- spent around $230 (including tip) for all the below + a drink. Let's get into the food. Appetizers: Pork Dumplings - 8/10 (GF rating 8/10) These were great. The inside was solid, outside was acceptable, and crunch on top was great. The sauce absolutely made it. Quite a good choice. Curry Puffs - 9.5/10 (GF rating 10/10) Delicious. You won't regret getting these. Pastry outside is amazing, inside is even better, tamarind makes it EVEN better. Just keeps getting better. Get them. Chicken Larb - 9/10 (GF rating 7.5/10) Very tasty. The sauce it's in is amazing and the flavor profile is just great. Highly recommend. Crispy Pork Belly Salad - 8/10 (GF rating 9/10) Also very good. The flavors all fit together extremely well. I'm not a fan of pork belly but this was done great. Main: Beef short rib - 10/10 (GF rating 10/10) Holy shit. We were so full at this point, it was unfortunate we couldn't finish this, because it was so good. Most tender beef I have ever had. I went at it with a fork, expecting to have a tiny bit of give, but it just fell off the bone, effortlessly. Easier than gliding through softened butter. I also normally don't like fatty pieces due to the texture/chewiness, and was worried I wouldn't like this dish as short rib is quite fatty. I absolutely LOVED the fat on this. It was impeccably rendered. Genuinely the best beef short rib I have ever had. The sauce and cilantro + peanuts it was paired with was a perfect flavor combination as well. Came with a delicious bread as well (naan-esque?) Dessert: Underwhelming, unfortunately. Got all 3. Thai Tea Pudding - 6/10 (GF rating 2/10) Pudding underneath was decent. Boba on top with the sauce was not. Boba not marinated in honey, just chewy bland boba! The custard itself was also not very reminiscent of Thai tea. Vanilla Soft Serve Sundae - 6/10 (GF rating- 5/10) Vanilla ice cream itself was very good. The salted caramel, not particularly, nor the Milo brownie on top of it, and the peanuts didn't pair well with it either. Very mid. Strawberry Basil Shaved Ice - 2/10 (GF rating 7.8/10) GF LOVED THIS. Of all the desserts here, she thought this was the best. I just didn't like this one a single bit. Cobi's hits all the marks; ambience, service, food, and drinks! Came in on a Monday evening and sat in the garden which was so relaxing and beautiful. Our server Alberto was amazing and suggested so many good dishes! There was not one thing we ordered that we did not love but our favorites were the butter chicken, dry aged branzino, short ribs, and oxtail. Oh and another great suggestion by Alberto was the moon light margarita, I had several lol. The manager Smith came by to check on our table to ask how everything was tasting which was very nice! I've dined here twice in a very short time frame - it's that good. Non-negotiable for me are the curry puffs ($14 for 2pcs). They're puffed pastries filled with curried split peas & potatoes served with a pickled onion tamarind ketchup. Absolute fire. The pastry puff is so buttery and fluffy and the curried split pea + potato filling is so satisfyingly filling. Also on that list are grilled prawns ($21 for 3 pcs). They are marinated in a ginger & yellow bean sauce that really enhances the sweetness of the prawns. The best part is probably the head, but of course that's not for everyone. Delish. We've dabbled all over and tried a ton of their entrees, but I keep going back to the beef rendang ($28). The beef is so tender and flavorful. Even without a ton of sauce, it's so good over the bed of rice. Highly recommend. You should also order the chili & sambal sampler ($7). It's such a good compliment to any of the dishes you happen to order. They're also fun eaten on a prawn chip as well. The patio gives secret garden which is so cute. Cobi's is a beautiful restaurant with pan-Asian cuisine that definitely lives up to the hype. Upon walking in, it felt like I was entering into a secret fairy garden turned upscale, trendy restaurant. The decor is charming, feminine, and whimsical. I arrived a couple minutes earlier than my reservation time and was seated right away. Our server was friendly, gave an explanation of the menu, and checked in consistently to make sure we were taken care of. To start I had the papaya salad and the pork dumplings. I loved the papaya salad as it was tangy, spicy, and lightly sweet. The pork dumplings were standard dumplings that were elevated with the texture of crispy shallots on top. I got the African curry with roti as my main dish, which was insanely rich. I enjoyed the roasted peanut flavor combined with the African spices. However, I did struggle to even eat half of the curry due to its decadence. The roti was buttery, flakey, and a great pairing with the curry. I tried a bite of my friend's beef rendang and it was tender and packed with flavor. For drinks, I had the lychee blossom and the sour cherry fizz. It was all delicious and flavorful, while somehow not being overly heavy or making you feel disgusting afterwards. The maximalist ambience is beautiful, unlike anything I've ever seen before. It's like you're dining in your great-grandmother's living room. And the attention to detail is noteworthy. I finally made it to Cobi's, and it's every bit as delicious and aesthetic as people say! The Service: I was really impressed by how attentive the staff was. Despite being a popular spot, the service was seamless and the food came out incredibly quick without feeling rushed. The Food: We started with the Kampachi, and that coconut drizzle is so good and fresh. The Pork Dumplings were another highlight; the crispy onions add such a satisfying texture. For the mains, the Beef Rendang is a must-order. It's marinated in sambal and is the ultimate comfort food when paired with the curry dip and a side of buttery roti. However, the too bite of the entire evening was definitely the Beef Short Ribs. They literally fell off the bone--you don't even need a knife! The sweet chili and tamarind dressing is perfectly balanced. We also loved the Nasi Goreng, which was packed with flavor. The Dessert: My husband, who usually doesn't even like dessert, loved the Thai Tea Pudding. The menu is fairly small which I like. I'm always a big fan of non traditional brunch food. We shared the fried chicken, rice noodle and the roti wraps. After three of my coworkers raved to me about Cobi's, I was finally in the Santa Monica area (actually just doing Pilates right next door), and I decided to pique my interest and confirm if the hype was real. Despite not having a reservation on a busy weekend lunch, the host was able to promptly seat me (a solo diner) in the outdoor garden area, which was beautifully decorated with flowers and bird-themed motifs. My server was honestly amazing - providing genuinely kind, attentive service and thoughtful recommendations that were well-tailored to my personal tastes. I ended up ordering a lavender flavored take on the pina colada, which I reminded me of my favorite Salt and Straw honey lavender ice cream, and was well-balanced while being strong. The shrimp char kway teow was also incredible - the fresh rice noodles were perfectly stir-fried so that they were still soft while being very flavorful, and came with quite a generous amount of large prawns. It's hard to find a spot that serves up incredibly curated, authentic South Asian food while having standout service and beautiful dining spaces in West LA, and I'm definitely adding this spot to my list of favorite Santa Monica restaurants and heading back soon to try more of their dinner menu! read more

What we ordered: Starters * Kampachi -- this was the only thing I didn't like and wouldn't order again. The fish itself was fresh, but the sauce combo didn't work for me. It was a lemongrass coconut sauce, which was actually delicious on its own, but I felt like it didn't pair well with the fish. I would've preferred something more bright and citrusy with kampachi. * Curry puffs -- sooo good. Basically like a samosa, and they come with a dipping sauce that made them even better. Mains / Sides * Butter chicken -- delicious, comforting, flavorful. * Roti bread -- must get (especially if you're sharing). * Grilled prawns -- amazing, and the sauce was fantastic. We were dipping the roti in it... chef's kiss. * Nasi goreng -- delish. Basically a really good fried rice situation with tons of flavor. * Green papaya salad -- super refreshing and bright, a perfect balance with the richer dishes. Absolutely worth the try! If you like Southeast Asian food (Thai, Vietnam etc) then you will love Cobi's. Street parking with meters available. Make sure you're reading the signs. Some are 3hr limit and others are 15 min limit. Dinner ambiance is intimate, lowlight candle vibes with a boutique feel. Very cute! Our server was Jip who immediately greeted us with a warm personality and got us to try all the yummy dishes they were known for. Shoutout to Cam and Jonathan who also helped us! The food is crazy good. You MUST try the Scallop in Half Shell (it comes 2 ways), the Kampachi (coconut lemongrassy sauce is divine), and the Grilled Prawns (get the 4pc option, you won't regret it). Got the Beef Rendang and the Mister Dal. Both leaned salty, but undoubtedly flavorful. Went very well with the roti. Perfect amount of food to get two people full. The staff looked stretched pretty thin. After we got seated, we waited quite a while before we got our order taken and they basically didn't return til checkout. I booked last minute reservations and ended up coming in at 8:15 pm. The restaurant was packed and made me glad I made a reservation, instead of walking up and hoping to get a table. We were seated inside, and though the room was nice I hope when I come again I'll get the patio! I went with a friend who I haven't seen in a while and we went a little overboard on the food, but I'm glad we got to try so many things! We got the curry puffs, beef rendang, butter chicken, and the dry aged branzino and the roti and rice as sides. Only took some of the butter chicken home and rice, so for two hungry individuals I think one app and two of the other mains was a good amount with the carb-y sides. I loved the curry puffs. Would pass on the butter chicken again, it wasn't bad but was definitely the most flat dish. The branzino was probably my favorite, the sauce was so bright it complemented the fish so beautifully I could probably eat it daily for the next year and still want more hahaha. The rendang was also delicious, the extra curry sauce it is served with made it a super close second to the branzino. Friendly staff that walks you through the set menus and makes recommendations. Would highly recommend making a reservation as the line gets quite long even prior to open time. There are two different options if set menus, with completely different offerings. We decided to do a-la-carte as the set menu seemed to be very comprehensive with a lot of food items. Grilled prawns were an amazing starter - the prawns were super tender and flavored with the spices. My personal favorite was the Nasi Goreng, especially with its flavorful and crispy pork belly chunks. Highly recommend! read more

Shared a VERY delicious meal here with some friends! Loved the lush decor inside, everything from the wallpaper to the light fixtures and tables and chairs made for such an intimate but welcoming, cozy vibe. The menu is more shareable and family style, but that way you can try a bit of everything. Honestly, it was all flavorful and well prepared, but if I went back and ordered again, the Beef Short Rib would be at the top of my list! Closely followed by the Butter Chicken and the Curry Puffs, I love a vegetarian option. Drinks-wise they had a couple of NA options, and the Lychee Fizz was a great counterbalance to all the savory food we ordered. The staff was really friendly, it was raining when we went and they had a place to stash umbrellas near the front door. Our waiter explained the menu to us and recommended his favorite dishes as well as what's most popular, and was very attentive throughout the meal, always making sure our cups and plates were filled. In terms of parking, there's metered street parking all over the area so it shouldn't be too hard to find. I would absolutely recommend coming out and trying Cobi's, and I'll be going back to try some other things on the menu next time! read more

As soon as you walk in, the Ambiance is beautiful. Came here on a Saturday night and it was the perfect sit down dinner date. I don't think pictures online do it justice to actually how pretty it is in person. Food is phenomenal. I recommend the beef short rib. It is super tender and it goes great with the sauce they give on the side. The beef Rendang is spectacular, flavorful. We got rice to pair on the side with both of them, great addition. The food came out super quick and it tasted fresh, our server was always checking in on us and the chef is very kind. If you're looking for a good variety of Southeast Asian food, this is the place. Certain dishes can be more on the pricier side, but you are getting amazing quality for what you pay for. Very justified and would come again. I recommend it to others! read more

We got really lucky without reservations. Tim and I chilled at the bar after work while we waited for somebody to potentially cancel. Ate the roti with the butter chicken! Fire. Good fluff, good texture, and just crispy enough. Short ribs were incredible - I don't expect them to slap that hard. Fatty, tender, sweet, and salty. We were one of two tables that sat on the sidewalk. Ambiance is interesting - Rasta music playing with a south East Asian vibe. Dimly lit with warm lights. read more
