This place has been on my bookmark for a little bit, so I'm glad that I got to try today. I definitely want to start with a positive. I really like their Lao Xi'er Special Beef Noodle Soup (mild spicy ) and Jelly Fish with Black Fungus. The beef was very tender and the noodle had a good chew. I did enjoy the jellyfish dish that was different from other places, just wish the pieces weren't as big. We also ordered Pork & Leek Dumplings. It was pretty average. We really didn't like the House Special Fried Noodle, which lack flavor and the Green onion pancake. The pancake barely had any green onions and was a little too dense. I think we would only come back for the beef noodle dish that was the start of dinner.
Came in at opening on a weekday and it took awhile for someone to come greet us (door was unlocked but no one was at the front). I ordered the wife's special noodle and the house special fried noodle. Both were pretty good, although I'm not sure if it's Michelin good. The wife's special noodles were saucy and the meat was very tender. It had a good flavor but was a tad bit salty. The fried noodles were good and my toddler really enjoyed them. They reminded me a bit of beef chow fun. Overall, pretty good food. It's a bit pricey but the portions are big. There's also plenty of parking in the back.
I came here to investigate this new restaurant that I spotted a few weeks ago when driving to the mall. It has two Michelin ratings, the latest was last year. I ordered the wife noodles dish, beef, tomatoes and eggs, ground pork over noodles and sliced squash, it was truly delicious. I was talking photos of the story behind the restaurant, posted meat the front door. The story of the wife dish was a couple of classmates that didn't know each other, the woman cooks this dish, and the friend thought to himself that it would be nice to marry the girl so that he could have the dish every day. It was a convincing story, try this dish out, I also ordered the green onion pancakes as a side dish. Parking should be available in the alley next the start of the outdoor mall. You need to walk to Baldwin Avenue to walk through the front door. You won't be disappointed if you came in for a meal, I left a happy camper!
My Asian foodie friend from the Bay Area came to visit and I let her pick a spot for dinner in the SGV. She picked Lao Xi - I've had this place bookmarked for a while so I was excited to check it out! Overall, I will rate the food a 4, and service 3. Flavors of the food were very good, and I enjoyed everything we ordered (except the jelly & fungus, that wasn't for me). We shared all these items: - Special Beef Noodle Soup - had to give this a try and I have no regrets. This was delicious - meat was tender, broth was tasteful and well balanced, noodles were good texture. The portions are generous, I took some home. This was a win! - Wife Special Noodle - not sure why it's called 'wife', maybe the wife of the shop makes it? *shrug* whatever the story behind it, it was also very tasty and flavorful. We mixed up all the ingredients together which really enhanced the flavor. I like this one! - Pork & leek dumplings - simple, one-bite dumplings that was a nice change from the noodles. I found them juicy and enjoyed with drops of soy sauce. - Jelly & black fungus - I feel they should change the name of this dish. "Fungus" isn't very alluring. I'm sure this is a refreshing salad to some, but just wasn't for me. The service needs some TLC. We weren't greeted when we walked in, weren't escorted to a table, and no one came to check in on us. Nothing bad happened, I just needed a bit more attention. I would likely come back with someone who truly enjoys authentic Asian food. It's worth a visit!
Very good textured noodles. You can tell they make it in house. The staff was friendly too as a mom and pop local shop, although slow at times when it gets busy. The eggplant and pork noodle I got was very flavorful and the portions were extra large. Plenty to bring back home. Ample parking in back too. Recommend a try if you are in the area!
This was our second time here, and we enjoyed the food much more this time. Unfortunately the full experience was more difficult to enjoy since we had two toddlers with us, and they were being very loud while the rest of the restaurant was pretty quiet. The pickled vegetable with fatty beef (酸菜肥牛粉絲湯) was good, albeit the beef was a tiny bit too fatty. The clear broth beef noodle soup was very nice, similar to a Korean sullungtang, and the pork and leek dumplings (韭菜豬肉水餃) reminded me of home. The chili oil and black vinegar went well with the dumplings and the beef noodle soup. Prices are not cheap these days, about $17 on average per dish, with the fatty beef soup being closer to $30 since it was a large bowl (pretty good value for how much we got). So we didn't get any of the cold dishes even though I wanted to try them. Next time maybe!
Been on my list for a while and finally came in on a Saturday for lunch. The noodles were to die for! I got the special with three toppings and it was so perfect and delicious. The meat sauce and tomato egg brought back my childhood memories the nostalgia! The beef cubes were so tender and flavorful. The noodles are perfectly al dente with a little bite. Not to mention the bowl is huge! This place is legit! The dumplings were good as well but I prefer some of the other SGV greats. Service is quick and friendly. No wait when I went around 1pm. This is now my go to when I get noodle cravings!
Had the Wife Special Noodles with green onion pancakes. The noodles come with thinnly sliced veggies crowned with three unique toppings: rich pork belly, a savory tomato-and-egg scramble, and fragrant ground pork infused with soy. Everything is nested over helao noodles, perfectly round and silky, similar in texture to Japanese udon. Definitely a unique dish that comes with a cute story based on the writing in the ads. The pancakes were really good and had the right amount of crisp. The place definitely has a family run vibe with some kids studying at a table and the older ones helping out. Place is clean and they were able to get the food quickly and were kind enough to answer some questions about the ingredients. The place is also pretty affordable for a Michelin winner.

My fiancé and I ended up ordering Lao Xi'er Special Beef Noodle Soup and Wife Special Noodle. The beef noodle soup was a bit salty and the broth was very mild in flavor. The bok choy was cooked perfectly and the beef was very tender. I also really loved the noodles but I just couldn't get myself to enjoy this meal as the soup was the main component into tying this whole dish together. As for the Wife Special Noodle, it definitely had that tart and umami flavor from the tomato. Quite strong but it was also a bit too salty. I feel like the flavor for this is quite simple as eggs in tomatoes is a staple food for many. If I had to pick the two, I would choose the wife noodles because of it having flavor. Overall, there were definitely some pros and cons for me and I think I just left feeling okay about this place. I really do enjoy how fast we got our food ( less than 10 minutes) and the texture of the noodles though.
During our 5‑day visit to LA, our family took us to Lao Xi Noodle for authentic northern Chinese dishes, and it turned out to be one of the highlights of the trip. We tried a wide variety of items--beef noodle soup, squid cumin fried noodles, leek and pork dumplings, fried string beans, eggplant with tofu, jellyfish with wood ear mushrooms, and several other dishes. Every single plate was flavorful, well‑seasoned, and beautifully prepared. We were genuinely and pleasantly surprised by how delicious everything was. Lao Xi Noodle is definitely a spot we'd return to on our next visit
Super cozy and comforting neighborhood noodle soup spot! I love both and lamb and beef noodle soups. All of their noodle shapes are great, just up to your own preference. The cat ear is definitely more fun to eat. We also got the stir fried noodles and they were amazing as well! My husband and I loved the wok hei flavor we got from them.

I love the cold noodles, it deliciously peanut-y and chewy. Love the chopped chili soup noodle: the soup is so clean tasting yet flavorful, however it's doesn't taste spicy. Staff was friendly and the place is clean. Definitely recommend!
I tried this restaurant for the first time and enjoyed the noodles. The ambience was quiet, so it was easy to have conversations. We ordered the wife's special noodles (includes beef, ground pork, and tomatoes and eggs) and the house special noodles with fried, boiled pork. Portion sizes are generous, so leftovers can be expected. There was also a relatively short wait for the noodles. With little bowls provided, you can share the different noodle dishes. In terms of toppings, I enjoyed the wife's special noodles the most. There were a lot of tasty, tender beef pieces. I enjoyed the sauce and seasoning. The pork from the house special noodles was decent, but the dish overall was a little oily. However, I preferred shape and texture from the house special noodles. We absolutely loved our meal here, and service was friendly and welcoming. As it was our first time, the woman who helped us made recommendations on which dumplings to order, and we selected the pork and leek variety for a more intense flavor. She also explained the sauces to us and when we combined them it made such a flavorful dip for the already flavor-packed dumplings. We really enjoyed them. We also split the House Special Fried Noodle. I was a fan of the wide noodles and the wood ear mushrooms, and this was my favorite dish that we ordered. That would have been enough food for the two of us but we couldn't leave without their famous Lao Xi'er Special Beef Noodle Soup. Easy parking in the back. Service was good. Restaurant is clean. The noodles are really good, you can taste that it's freshly hand made. Wish there was more meat and cucumber to noodle ratio. Also got the green onion pancake, more dough-y and less crispy. Still good! read more
Excellent! Excellent! Excellent! A Bib Gourmand highlight. You're definitely missing out if you haven't had their handmade noodles! The noodles are cooked to perfection and the seasoning on it is mouth-watering! Definitely reminded me of my grandma's cooking! Homey and comforting. This place is definitely a culinary gem emphasizing on Shanzi Province cuisine. We ordered: HOUSE SPECIAL FRIED NOODLE (A+) - I enjoyed the chewy texture of these noodles and the sauce was well-balanced. Hand cut and in-house made it's like Chinese fresh pasta. Once you have fresh pasta you can't go back...same concept! WIFE NOODLES (A) - Savory and almost like Chinese spaghetti with a twist. There is a story behind this dish the husband made it for his then platonic friend who became his wife who are now the owners of this restaurant! Sweet!! JELLYFISH (A+) - This had everything I love. Large wood-ear fungus, RAW garlic slices, onions, and fat-ass jellyfish BRAISED BEEF NOODLE SOUP (A) - Solid beef noodle soup with quality ingredients. One of the top ones in the SGV! We did takeout and our order was ready at the designated time. There is plenty of parking in the back of the restaurant. It's kind of tight but better at the end of the plaza. read more
This is the place to get fried "cat ear" noodles. They used to have a couple of classic diced lamb and noodle dishes that aren't here anymore unfortunately. However everything still hit the spot and was nicely priced. Food came out quickly also. read more

I came on a Saturday at around noon to satisfy my craving for some good noodles. Street parking was easy, not a problem at all. I did notice a small parking lot behind the building, but I didn't even bother. The restaurant is very spacious, clean, and modern looking. There were a lot customers when I arrived, but I was still able to get a table right away. Service was great, and their staff were attentive. I started with the Green Onion Pancakes, which were pretty good. My other order, the Wife's Special Noodles, were excellent in my opinion. Nice chew on the noodles, and the contrast between the different ingredients in the dish made it very memorable to me. Well worth the almost one hour drive from West Hills. I will be back! Pro tip: don't wear a white shirt if you're eating things with chili oil... I stained my favorite shirt! read more
We were recommended this spot and it absolutely delivered. The standout dish for us was the Wife's Special Noodles, especially when mixed with the braised beef. The flavors were deep, comforting, and well balanced, and the beef added richness that really elevated the dish. Easily our favorite of the meal. We also ordered the Persian cucumber appetizer, which was crisp, refreshing, and packed with flavor. The dumplings were excellent as well. Both the pork and shrimp and pork and leek dumplings were very juicy, with wrappers that were just right, not too thick or too thin. The atmosphere is simple and casual. Nothing fancy, but clean and comfortable. Service was a tier above what you typically expect at a neighborhood Chinese restaurant. Attentive, efficient, and friendly without being overbearing. Came here on a cloudy Saturday around 1 pm. Not busy at all. We ordered beef noodle soup, green onion pancake, jelly fish, lamb noodle soup,and an extra side of noodles. The food comes out super fast, within 10 minutes. The green onion pancakes and jelly fish were solid appetizers. Interior was clean, no noticeable stains or spills around. The beef noodle soup is a lighter broth than I would prefer(the info poster outside says this is the restaurant's style) , the broth also seems to be the slightly sour style. The beef was good, super tender and fatty. Service seemed to notice how many kids we had and was generous enough to give us a huge serving for our side of extra noodles. Reasonable portions for the inexpensive price point. The dumplings were juicy and savory, but also needed a little more meat filling in each. The noodles had this ultra tasty umami flavor. Delicious goodness!! I didn't see any veggie side dishes on the menu, so that was kind of a bummer. Minus 1 star because the first server who helped us kept rushing us to order like twice even after we told him the first time we needed a couple more minutes. I understand that we came in at around 8:20 or 8:30pm before closing at 9pm so they want to close the kitchen asap, yet servers still shouldn't rush your customers to order especially when we had clarified the first time nicely that we needed a few more minutes, like relax we weren't taking that long to decide what to order lol. read more

I've been here a couple times now, and the food is not bad at all, I'm not sure why this place seems empty most of the time I drive by. Most recently I had the wife's special noodles, and while normally I'm not a big fan of tomatoes, the tomato sauce here goes very well with the meaty flavors. The slices of cucumber on the side are sliced very finely and are fresh, and the chunks of beef is soft and flavorful as well. I've also had their beef noodle soup which is what they're known for. Texture of the noodles could be just a little more "Al Dente" in my opinion, but I do like that you can taste that it's hand pulled. They have a Bib Gourmand recognition from Michellin, and I guess prices are reasonable, but likely more expensive since earning that recognition as most places do. read more

We found this absolute gem through Yelp after a disappointing night at the 626 Night Market about 2 years ago. We've been making the 30-mile trek to get our fix a few times a year since! The noodles are phenomenal, and everything we've had has been amazing. The wife's special noodle is our favorite, and I highly recommend getting knife cut noodles. The house special fried noodles includes tender boiled pork, wood ear mushrooms, and bamboo shoots. The dumplings are plump and juicy with a great chew to the skin. The cat ear noodle soup is so good especially when it's cold out. You honestly can't go wrong no matter what you order. Lao Xi is our favorite noodle place that rivals some of the best I've had in Taiwan! read more
When we first walked in the restaurant was clean and hospital. The staff was friendly and said us right away, we were early, so there was no wait for a table for two. Our visit was during lent. My wife had a spicy shrimp stirfry and I had the house special beef noodle soup. The stirfry was great and my wife loved it. She thought that the spice level was just right and she was happy that the restaurant did have an all seafood dish. The beef noodle soup was exceptional. The broth was savory, not too spicy the portion of beef that came with the soup was more than enough for even the biggest appetite, and I love bok choy. The noodles tasted fresh and they had the right consistency for the dish. Overall, I get my experience at 10 and I will be coming back to this location. read more
We got the wife's special noodles and lamb cat ear noodles soup. I love their handmade noodles which have such a bouncy texture and are neither too firm nor too soft. The wife's special noodles is a saucy noodle with tomato egg, meat sauce and beef shank. All components get mixed into the noodles and provides a flavorful bite. The beef cubes were tender and had just enough fat. The lamb soup's cat ear noodles are similar to pasta and the lamb and mushroom flavor is pronounced. The lamb pieces are less flavorful because it seems to be in the soup but the wood ear mushrooms are tender and meatier than any I've tried. We would love to come back to try something that looked like pig trotters on another table and jellyfish. read more
After having fresh made noodles I really don't feel like having instant ramen anymore. So far I've had the long green bean with pork noodles and the curry lamb with noodles. So far the long green bean with pork noodles is my favorite. Personally I think the curry lamb noodles should also be presented in a bowl so you can get a mix the fresh noodles and curry sauce together. Portions are a little on the smaller side, but considering you are getting fresh noodles the price is fair. My only question is why is the name Lao Xi when in Chinese it's clearly written as Lao Xi'er read more

Lao Xi is a tasty hand pulled noodle restaurant that serve huge portions with homey flavors. I really enjoyed my experience eating here. The food came out fast and it was piping hot. My favorite bites were the wife special noodle which is basically like a chow fun and the pork and chive dumplings. The flavor or the wife special is onion-y and vinegar-y. The pork dumplings were packed with meat and had a lot of chives. The pig ears weren't marinated that strongly so it's more of a texture thing, personally not my favorite pork ear I've had. Parking was easy in a back lot when we came on a Saturday afternoon but I can see how the parking lot could be a huge headache because there's a lot of other restaurants in that center. You know a place is an sgv local spot if you call and they automatically respond in Chinese. (They speak English as well) I've been ordering take out at the original location on live oak for over a decade. The quality has always remained consistent and delicious. I recently dined at this location for the dineLA deal and it was amazing. I do think the noodles are even chewier when you order and dine in. The restaurant was very clean and organized. There was plenty of seating and on a week day night there were a few aunties just sitting and talking the whole time. The vibe was very home. If it's your first time here I'd recommend the wife's noodles. If you also like lamb you can't go wrong with the lamb cat ear noodle soup! read more

What's more comforting than a bowl of beef noodle soup? Not that much in my opinion. This place is on the Michelin bib gourmand list and is well deserved. When you walk in it's a typical Chinese restaurant feel. A little over 10 tables for dining in. You are greeted immediately and led to a table. Food comes out fairly quickly. Stir fried green beans 4/5 - super flavorful, a little spicy and it came out so fast! I do think ours was kind of overcooked because it wasn't as crunchy as I would like but other than that super addicting. Beef noodle soup 10/5 - does not disappoint. Meat is so tender and falls apart so easily. I could have a whole bowl of the beef in a heartbeat. Noodle consistency is chewy and so addicting. Broth is delicious as well. It was so good that I forgot to take a pic. Definitely a must order. Always my go to for beef noodle soup. Michelin well deserved. read more
Awesome shop with cozy vibes and tasty noodles! They have a small lot in the back. My usual go to is their lamb cat ear noodle soup. It's a savory soup filled with chewy dough pieces (the cat ear noodle), potato, mushroom, glass noodles, wood ear and cilantro. It's such a comforting soup to get on cold days and portions are huge! I also tried their wife special noodle and it was very tasty with their tomato sauce, beef, and ground pork with egg. The noodles are chewy and bouncy! Went for the Dine LA summer menu 8/2025. The place looks small from the outside but it's spacious enough. It fills up even for lunch. Service is quick and efficient. I ordered the vegetarian delicacies (cold dish) along with thin noodles with eggplant and pork for $15. It was a bargain one of the best noodle meals I've had in a while and it was more than enough I ended up taking some home. The cold dish was unexpectedly very appetizing it reminded me of a Salvadoran staple without the vinegar very enjoyable. Now the noodles weren't as thin as I thought but were perfectly cooked and the minced pork with eggplant was excellent just slightly a bit salty but no issues there. Presentation of the dish was just as good. I'm going back to try more I'm just impressed. read more
