Stopped by during the hours of their Afternoon Tea - $15 for a hot drink and a combo or a dish on their special menu (I ordered a combo of porridge and beef chow fun) is a good deal and is plenty of food to get you full. I wasn't a huge fan of the beef chow fun because I found it a little bland for my taste. The service is efficient, and while the interior is a little dated (peep the advertising placemats), it was very clean and comfortable. Plenty of parking available in the lot. I also enjoy their Hainan chicken which was tender enough - which I was delighted to find comes with a salted egg and some lightly pickled vegetables. Walked in as a party of 10, but then they split us into separate tables and still trie to charge us 18% gratuity (even though they split us into different tables, with different servers). They give both tables waters with food residue in it. We let our server know about it and they give us water with food residue in it again! If a place can get the basics down then most of the other items on the menu is passable. As a last minute dinner suggestion, my uncle asked if we wanted to have dinner here and we say "yes!". It was a Friday dinner, we arrived around 5:45pm and it wasn't crowded. We sat in the right side seating area (first time for me at that table area) and staff seemed pretty busy once it hit 6pm. We ordered a few dishes and also refillable iced milk tea and lemon tea. The Korean bbq ribs were so tender and flavorful. I haven't had a chance to try this because they usually tell me it's not available. The dishes that have grilled meats come with mashed potatoes, mixed veggies, and rice/spaghetti. The Korean bbq meat dish didn't come with a sauce. My uncle got a fried chicken fillet which we asked tartar sauce to accompany it. My aunt ordered the seafood fried noodles, the squid was as chewy as they always are! And my bf ordered Singapore rice noodles and it had a nice heat of curry flavor. I also asked for a couple of refills to my milk tea. Definitely happy they are refillable for free! The menu hasn't changed a bunch, but there are definitely a few new items for dinner/weekend specials. A lot of the dishes are a bit pricey in comparison to other hong kong cafes, but I think the dishes are also bigger in comparison. On this day, I got lemon ice tea ( which is unfortunately not refillable) and spanish coffee ( tastes so good with the vanilla ice cream on top). The filet mignon was cooked great - was medium rare in the inside, and had lots of diced mushrooms and onions underneath. The sea bass hot pot was also delicious, though would have been better if they cut down on the sliced pork and added more fish. I would NOT recommend this place. For some odd reason it seems popular to locals. I was visiting relatives who suggested this place because they have patio seating that can accommodate their dog. The menu items are a WIERD food pairings. I ordered Beef Chow fun. What came first was a big bowl of oatmeal!! Strange because in a million years would not eat oatmeal with Beef Chow Fun. Then the beef chow fun arrived. And it was NOT chow fun. It is supposed to be made with wide rice noodles. This place made it with udon noodles. It would've been nice if their menu stated that. Garden Cafe has always been one of my "ole reliable" type of restaurants. Dependable food/staff and comfy seating here. I have never had a bad meal ever (look at my Yelp check-ins, 240 and many times where I forget to check-in too) and they open on all holidays, the perfect place for a nice dinner out when celebrating something. The Alhambra location was my OG spot though but I now live closer to this one and get just as great food. I think Arcadia Garden has better parking(private lot) than the Alhambra one(shared parking structure) even when it's busy. The food selection is plentiful and very sharable dishes. They even have special menu item sets on holidays like Mother's/Father's Day, Thanksgiving, New Year, Christmas, etc. Lemon iced tea, milk tea, and coffee always have free refills here (some HK cafes do not or only refill once). If you like chili, they have their own freshly made chili oil to use at the restaurant and you can even order a jar of it for home(just ask staff about it, they don't advertise it). But anyways, my family comes here so often the staff would get worried if we don't show up for a while. Extremely Canto parent approved, love this place. read more

Garden Cafe has been a local institution since the original one opened in Alhambra. Although it has had many ups and downs since then, it remains one of the go to places when you are craving a Hong Kong style cafe. On our latest visit to the Garden Cafe in Arcadia, we found the food to be well presented and in a generous portion size but, and it's a big "but" (no, I'm not referencing Sir Mix-a-Lot), the tastes were not as good as they should be. It wasn't bad at all but it lacked the all important "wok hay" and tasted a bit flat. But all in all it was still good and the waitresses were very kind and friendly so they will get a good rating. There is a parking lot with plenty of parking but beware that there will be a packed lot if you come on the weekends. Seating is quick but service can be a while as they can get backed up. A classic spot to get hk style food at a good price. The food is good but not the best. If they have the oxtail with another sauce, we'd try that next time. - Ox tongue with curry: 5/5 my boyfriend and dad loved this one the most. The curry had a nice kick to it, and like the other meats we ordered - very tender. - Udon with sea urchin, scallops, and shrimp: 5/5 this was my favorite dish and I could've eaten the whole bowl myself. It was so creamy and uni-flavored. I LOVED it. Will be thinking about this dish for days. In addition to the delicious food, their service was great too. This Garden Cafe used to be my favorite Hong Kong Cafe that I will visit everytime I visits LA. And the food is normal with minimal service with order, deliver food and then check, that is it. And I check the restaurant is closed at 10pm before I came this time, and I arrived at 9:15pm, but the server and manger told us that they close at 10pm and keep on asking us to order fast as the kitchen will close shortly .., but that is still 45 minutes away from the closing time. If the kitchen doesn't want to cook after 9:15pm, then change your business hour to 9pm instead of 10pm. And don't take any customers after 9pm. Moreover, we ordered several combination meal which all between $18 to $25, and we think it is enough for everyone one,but the server keep saying the dish is very small and keep saying or pushing us to order more dishes and we ended up with a lot of left over. In addition, all other Hong Kong Cafe will offer hot tea for free, but they will charge you few dollars for just a tea which is rediuous. Another deal breaker for this restaurant, they did charged us 18% service on the bill which is not worth at all. I always pay tips base on the service and I usually pay 15% even if just very minimal service and tip more if you provided something that I think you deserve to get more. First , this is not a fine dinner or upscale dinner, and Hong Kong style cafe is just. Fast food restaurant in Hong Kong, they definitely do not deserve for that much tips.
