    Beef noodle soup
    Jenn J.

We had a large party (13) come here for lunch. Had to be split across two tables. So not good for parties. The digital ordering across 2 tables made me the waitress. I did not enjoy having to take everyone's order. When I asked if they could just take the order like a regular restaurant, I was told to use the website. Not friendly service. There were a lot of hard no's. You can't stand here when you wait. Or there. You can't use the bathroom. You can't have your seat too far away from the table. Food looked better than it tasted. Beef noodle soup broth was lacking depth. Popcorn chicken didn't have basil. The noodles were the biggest letdown. For a place named MIAN, one'd think the made these fresh, from scratch daily, had some special way to keep them bouncy for texture, etc. Nope, these tasted like they were fresh off the grocery shelf. It was not a relaxing or enjoyable experience. The regime thinks their food is so terrific they can treat folks however. We like noodles at other places more. Won't be back.

First time trying this place out at friends recommendation. There is plenty of underground parking. You place your order using the link via QR code. Staff served us water upon seating. It can get loud inside once the place fills up. I got their zajiang noodles ($13) which comes with minced beef, fried egg, and some bok choy. It was a good portion was this price. Sauce was very flavorful. Would come back for this again!

Sichuan hot sour noodles, spicy wontons

Classic szechuan styled noodle house with yummy noodles. A solid 3.8/5. Parking usually isn't an issue and the establishment is decently sized. The noodle portions are pretty great and I usually take half home when I order appetizers with it. I enjoyed the spicy wontons though they weren't a favorite of another tablemate. I got the Sichuan hot sour noodles and they were tasty. I've gotten them on more than one occasion and enjoy the crunchy peanuts that come with them. I've eaten these noodles cold as well and actually prefer them that way with the cold, sour refreshing taste after a hot day. My sibling always get the beef noodle soup and loves it. A great restaurant my family consistently visits and tastes good.

I've been to Mian in San Gabriel before and remember really enjoying it, so I brought a friend who had never been on a Tuesday night for dinner. The food itself still holds up, but the experience this time left a pretty bad impression. We ordered through the QR code and got the insanely spicy noodles, steamed egg with minced pork, Chengdu fries (we went with level 5 spice), beef in chili oil, and the celery with peanuts. For drinks, we had the mung bean drink and plum juice. Everything tasted great, just like I remembered. The spice level was definitely there but still enjoyable and not overwhelming. The issue came when an extra dish showed up at our table that we never ordered. When I checked the online menu from the QR code, I saw that the restaurant had added crispy pork to our order without asking us. That alone felt pretty shady, and to make it worse, the dish itself was mostly batter with barely any meat. It honestly left a sour taste after what would have otherwise been a solid meal. Good food doesn't make up for questionable business practices. Parking: there's free surface parking in a shared lot, plus underground parking available. Ambiance is your typical Asian restaurant. It was moderately loud, but still easy enough to have a normal conversation. Overall, the food is good, but I won't be coming back after this experience.

Steamed Egg ($5 and was worth it for how much you get)

Solid spot for the noodle lover! Been years, I mean years since I've been here. And happy to say that my second time back was better than the first, not that the first time was bad. Came here for lunch with friends so we each ordered our own noodles and appetizers to share. I'm not a big noodle person but their noodles are delicious. I think I ordered their signature Zajiang Noodles and noodles were cooked perfectly so they still have a good chew. Flavor is also there! Of course, more noodles than protein. The appetizers we ordered to share were all delicious - steamed egg was my favorite. Served in a mug with minced pork on top, it reminds me of the steamed egg I had growing up and at $5, you actually get a decent amount. Happy slurping!

I've been here before and was craving some noodles, so I decided to give it another try. The food is pretty decent, not the best noodles I've ever had, but definitely enjoyable overall. Chengdu ZaJiang Noodles - This was my favorite. Dry-style noodles with a fresh texture and great flavor. Very tasty. (4.5/5) Spicy Beef Noodles - A bit too oily for my personal taste. There's a heavy amount of chili oil, so we mostly stuck to the noodles and meat. (3.5/5) Overall, the food was tasty and reasonably priced. Parking - Plenty available, including convenient downstairs parking.

wow oh wow. the mashed potato noodles was nothing less than delicious. textures were everything. certainly one of my favorite noodle dishes by far. the dan dan noodles were also quite yummy. the side of pickled cucumbers complemented the heaviness of the noodles. good portions, fresh ingredients, and quick service.

Located in a busy plaza so parking can be hard to find at peak hours. The store is in the corner of the plaza. They serve a variety of noodles. Service was good. Food came out quick. Food was ordered with a QR code. Very affordable and the serving size was big for me. I could not finish my bowl.

Mian is perfect for a variety of situations - large family dinners, solo dinners, casual friend dinners, and dates! They're pretty heavy handed on the spice here, so if you're wavering on spice level just get no numb and no spice lol it will still be tasty. There's a key by the register for the bathrooms outside. Service is always quick, everything usually comes out within 5-10 mins. Very comforting homestyle cooking :) Fav dishes: golden soup wontons, chili oil dumplings, chengdu zajiang mian, steamed egg with minced pork

Chengdu Zajiang Noodle (the sauce is packed separately for take-outs)
    Vincentia G.

I always get their Chengdu Zajiang Noodle. I'd recommend going for at least level 4 spicy, because anything lower isn't as delicious or flavorful (in my opinion). It is pretty spicy, though, and the mala flavour might take some time to get used to if you've never tried it before. The level 5 spicy is great and enjoyable if you love spicy food. The Zajiang Noodle with peas is pretty much the same dish as the Chengdu Zajiang Noodle, just with chickpeas added. It's a great option if you want some extra fiber and protein with your noodles. The service here is always quick and friendly. Take-outs are ready within 10 -15 minutes. The workers are reliable and efficient. The space itself is clean and works well for small groups or individuals. There's ample parking available, especially with the additional underground parking.

    Spicy Tofu Noodles W. Meat
    Eric W.

We ordered the chengdu zajiang noodles, piquant intestine noodles, spicy tofu noodles with meat, and the steamed egg & minced pork. Everything was packed with bold, authentic flavors. The noodles had the perfect texture, and the piquant intestine noodles had just the right kick without being overwhelming. Each piece of the pork intestine is big and not chewy. The spicy tofu noodles is ok. The steamed egg was silky smooth and super comforting, a great balance to the spicy dishes. Service is fast. I will definitely come back to try others.

Came back and again and got my usual. Service was quick and the food was delish! I just wis the egg can be a bit hotter when it came. It wasn't too packed when I came and parking was super easy! Good vibes and easily my go to when I'm in the area!

    Christina N.

I usually get the spicy intestines rice noodles here. The broth is quite oily and the spice builds as you eat but it burns so good! Ordering is done via mobile by scanning QR code on the table. Service is pretty quick.

The cold noodles were refreshing and had a nice firm texture, making them a great starter. The qiao jiao beef stood out with its rich beef bone broth, and both the beef and radish were incredibly tender. They were fall-off-the-bone tender and the crispy garlic on top added a lot of flavor and texture. The kung pao chicken was another standout. The chicken pieces were meaty and the sauce had a sweet and savory flavor that actually reminded me of sweet and sour pork, which I really enjoyed. We'd been talking about getting Chinese food, and he picked Xiang La Hui, his go-to spot for classic Sichuan. I'd never been before, and was more than happy to try a new spot in the SGV. We met up at noon and stayed until the restaurant wrapped up lunch service and gently pushed us out the door, sometime around 2:30. The space was nice, instantly recognizable as a Chinese restaurant in Alhambra. It was pretty quiet the whole time, a good place for a leisurely catch-up. Service was fast and polite, though the combination of QR code ordering and poor Verizon service was a bummer. I had to cross the dining room to take down the wifi password posted on the opposite wall. We ordered a sizable spread for two people: Chong Qing fried chicken, dan dan noodles, wontons with chili oil, and pea tips with garlic. Everything was delicious, most of all the Chong Qing fried chicken, crispy nibbly bits of breaded chicken stir-fried with green onion and hot pepper. I love dan dan noodles and wontons, and thought both were great, if not the best I've had in the area. The pea tips were lovely, bright green and not spicy, but abundantly flavorful. I'd love to come back to Xiang La Hui and try more of the menu. It seems like a restaurant that does everything well, and I'll keep it in mind whenever I'm craving Sichuan.

A Rare Gem of Authentic Sichuan Cuisine Yesterday, I…read morediscovered a hidden gem: Chuan Wa Zi (川娃子)!Szechuan Delicious! Every single dish I tasted--from the authenticity of the flavors to the freshness of the ingredients and the precision of the wok heat (huohuo)--absolutely blew me away. Usually, entering a Sichuan restaurant means being blasted by "spicy, spicy, spicy" and "numbing, numbing, numbing," with choices limited to just water-boiled, sour soup, or mala flavors. However, the chef at Chuan Wa Zi uses only the freshest ingredients to create dishes that are pure and original. My friends were all full of praise! The Highlights of the Meal * Morel Mushroom & Chicken Consommé: Served in a double-boiled stew pot, the unique sweetness of the morels combined with the delicate fragrance of the chicken was so addictive I couldn't stop at just one bowl. * Braised Lamb with Radish: This featured skin-on young lamb--tender and perfectly cooked yet retaining a delightful chew. The radish was braised until deeply flavorful, and the cilantro garnish was the perfect touch, elevating the aroma without overpowering the richness of the lamb. There was zero gamey smell. Eating the lamb skin provided a boost of collagen--a truly nourishing and warming dish. * Chengdu Baby Cabbage (Er Cai): Stir-fried in a rich broth, it was incredibly sweet with a hint of bitterness that perfectly balanced the richness of the lamb. According to traditional wisdom, "five flavors nourish the five organs." Sichuan's baby cabbage is only in season for one month during spring. It's known to clear "heart fire," refresh the mind, and improve sleep. * Sautéed Pork with Celtuce (Lettuce Stem): The pork was incredibly silky and tender, achieved not through baking soda or heavy starch, but purely through masterly knife work and heat control. Paired with the crisp celtuce, it was a perfect harmony of "silky" and "crunchy." * Sichuan Jelly Noodles (Liangfen): Added at the last minute, Jing (host of Oushang Beauty Spa) claimed these are the most authentic and smooth jelly noodles in Greater Los Angeles. Made purely from mung bean starch with no additives, the texture was clean and soft. The seasoning was light and balanced--just a simple blend of soy sauce, sesame oil, vinegar, chili oil, garlic, and cilantro. From start to finish, there was no overwhelming spiciness or discomfort--just a comforting and refreshing dining experience that leaves you wanting more. House-Made Specialties It's worth mentioning that the owner personally prepares all the cold appetizers, such as the Smoked Pressed Duck and the platter of Handmade Sausages, Cured Pork (Larou), Cured Ribs, and Spicy Pork Head Meat. They were fragrant and meaty without any of the oily aftertaste often found in over-dried meats. We saw many people calling in to order these platters to go as snacks for drinks (xiajiu), and we definitely plan to do the same next time! Chef's Recommendations & Hidden Menu They offer a variety of other specialties like Pork Tripe in Golden Soup, Spicy Eel with Glass Noodles, and Basu "Glutton" Bullfrog. Some dishes, like our Lamb and Chicken Soup, must be pre-ordered by phone. Their classic Sichuan stir-fries--Flash-fried Kidney, Mao Xue Wang, Laziji (Chili Chicken), and Twice-cooked Pork--are all spectacular. They even serve Xian Shao Bai (Savory Steamed Pork Belly), a nearly lost classic that requires incredible knife skills and offers a perfect balance of sweet and savory. A Sweet Ending To wrap up, the owner's wife treated us to their Handmade Fermented Rice Soup (Laozao) with four-colored mini tangyuan (glutinous rice balls). Each color had a different natural flavor--sour fruit, rich sesame, and red bean--with no artificial coloring. The soup had a delicate fermented aroma and silky egg drops, providing a perfect ending to our feast. Closing Thoughts It has been a long time since I've had food this authentic that wasn't "scary spicy." I am truly grateful to find a restaurant that treats cooking as an art and operates with such a strong conscience and craftsmanship.

The service is consistently great... attentive, efficient, and genuinely welcoming. Fair warning for anyone new to Sichuan cuisine, the dominant flavor is "spicy". That said, the dishes are not just about heat... they're layered, aromatic, and incredibly well-balanced. Every dish I've tried has been outstanding, both in flavor and presentation. If you're a fan of bold, authentic flavors and reliable service, this spot is definitely worth visiting. Tip - If you're new to the cuisine, I strongly recommend getting everything MILD spicy. I've been told by some of my colleagues that MILD spicy is still pretty spicy, so be warned. With that said, strongly recommend the dishes below. Lamb with Cumin 11/10 - My favorite dish here by far. Aromatic, flavorful, and the spices are just on point. Dan Dan Noodles 9/10 - Solid and consistently good. The sauce is properly seasoned and truly compliments the perfectly cooked noodles. Shredded Cabbage with Pork 9/10 - Not to be confused with twice cooked pork. This dish is so simple and bland looking, but it's packed with flavor... so good! Garlic Pork Belly 8/10 - This is a cold dish. The meat was perfectly cooked and properly coated in chili oil. Solid and consistently good. Kung Pao Chicken 8/10 - In my opinion, it's an elevated Kung Pao Chicken. Solid and consistently good.

It can get really busy, though, so expect to wait or just call in your order and take your food to go. I recommend the soy sauce tofu with beef dish. It's fire. Massive W. Gen Z words. Good.

As someone who cannot eat too spicy, I have always been intimidated by the term "MALA," but little…read moredid I know how much have I been missing out! So this weekend was my first experience with a Malatang, and I think Hibiscus Tree did an amazing job with the broth flavors, no matter how big or small you added those bar ingredients into your bowl. I could assure you because my family came for lunch twice in a row lol. I got the same broth and the flavors were consistent! For those who are also a mild eater, I highly recommend the Creamy Beef Bone, mild spice. The broth is also perfect for beef lovers since it has a rich and beefy flavor. My favorites to add in the bowl: rice cake, quail egg, fishball with roes, duck blood, gizzard, beef throat, calamari, wood ear mushroom, instant noodles, and lots of beef :') The Szechuan Style Dessert (free with Yelp Check-in) was such a perfect dessert at the end. The sweetness will cool down your tongue after the numbing meal. Hibiscus Tree is definitely climbing up my new go-to MPK list! @tableformin

I went during an off-time so the wait for my order was around 10 min which was not too bad. The price is not too bad, around $30 for a portion that could feed 2 people. I think personally, there are some heavier filler items here and I would get those ingredients myself and incorporate it into the dish when I get home. The flavors are quite intense no matter how much you get too. Parking is a bit difficult as this plaza is small and full of restaurants so if you're doing takeout, parking in the market parking lot next door isn't too much of a problem.
