Great local Taiwanese spot! I really like the braised pork rice and my boyfriend loves the turkey rice. You can't find the turkey rice easily in LA! Sausage is good too I think the portions are super small especially for the popcorn chicken so definitely order several things to share.

Wanted to try this place for a while. Stopped by for a quick dinner recently to try their food. This is your typical mom and pop shop. I ordered the pork intestines vermicelli and the oyster pancake and both dishes arrived on my table within 10 mins. I like the pancake better than the vermicelli. Overall, I think it's a place for a causal meal if i happen to be in the area.

This is, by far, the best you can get in this area if you are looking for lu rou fan like how they make it in Taiwan. Nowhere else really comes close, which is why it's the best. Unfortunately, they no longer have the rice plates so you'll need to get a "full" order of the veggies along with the rice bowls. Which adds to the not-insignificant cost, but again, it's pretty much the only/best option. The other dishes are pretty good.

As a stinky tofu lover, I was sad I just heard about this place just as they stopped serving stinky tofu. We still went to support them and the food definitely feels authentic. We ordered two servings of oyster omelette, a braised pork rice, seafood noodles, pickled cucumber, Dan Dan noodles dish, pickled cabbage, deep fried intestine and a bowl of intestine vermicelli as well as oyster vermicelli. We made sure to order two plates of popcorn chicken and a bowl of sliced pork with plum powder dip. The pork was a nice surprise. Seasoned a bit differently than what I expected and I heard the plum powder really works. The plum powder was not close to me so I didn't try it. The oyster omelette and vermicelli were so comforting. The dishes were all so good. A must try for Taiwanese Street food hankering. There were always people waiting. Be aware if you get there at peak time. There's only small tables so we had to wait a while for our party of seven.

3.5 star. This is a small mom and pop Taiwanese restaurant serving up some traditional Taiwanese dishes that I don't normally see on other menus. We got the Lu rou fan and the vermicelli with intestines and oyster. The portions are pretty small in my opinion. Flavor is good on the rice and the pork is fatty and melts in your mouth. I do wished they included braised egg or braised tofu but it was just pork belly with a few pieces of cilantro. The vermicelli is a dish I had back in Taiwan (阿忠米线) and has been searching for back in the states for a while and while it is a similar dish, it doesn't compare to what I had in Asia. I think it's missing the vinegar and I wish I had the option to add spiciness to it.

Authentic Taiwanese food, quick service, small restaurant with limited indoor seating. We waited 20min for a Sunday lunch with a party of 3. The spinach was fresh, the pickled cucumbers were crunchy & refreshing. The turkey rice was flavorful, the fried pork chop was good but the fried popcorn chicken was even better. We will return to try more items on the menu.

This restaurant is quite small, so definitely have someone in your party come first so they can put their name on the wait list! The food was delicious, my table tried the fried pork intestine, pickled cucumber, popcorn chicken, oyster pancake, oyster vermicelli, and pork belly rice. The pickled cucumbers were very good, and the portion was huge for the price! The bowl was completely filled up to the brim (I know it doesn't look like it in my photo but that's because we had already eaten half haha), 9/10. This was my first time trying fried pork intestines and it was a good experience. The intestines were crunchy on one side and soft and fatty on the other. They didn't have much taste other than straight fat, but it did come with salt and pepper to dip in. It also came with a side of pickled vegetables that were perfect to cut through the fattiness of the intestines, 8/10. The popcorn chicken was good as well. They weren't super fried, but the insides were very juicy. And dipping salt that came with the chicken was a bit sweet which I liked as well, 7/10. The oyster pancake was basically a big egg pancake made with rice flour, oysters, and this bitter green vegetable that I can't remember the name of, covered in this sweet and sour sauce that tasted tomatoey. I've never had anything like it, but it was very good! I loved the little pockets of sticky rice flour, 7/10. The pork belly rice was your standard rice that every Taiwanese restaurant serves. I only ate a few bite of my friends, but it was good! 7/10. The oyster vermicelli was also very delicious. The soup was thick like egg drop soup, and the oysters were big. Ask for black vinegar on the side if you like it a bit sour! 8/10. Great food and fast service. The portion sizes were also a lot bigger than expected! Would definitely come again.

If you like Pine & Crane or Joy, give this place a try. It's cheaper and the dishes are considered more "ethnic" There's not much Taiwanese food locations left in the center of San Gabriel, most are East of Rosemead Blvd (Arcadia, Monrovia, etc.) or Rowland Heights area. This place tastes good; pretty standard traditional Taiwanese fare with a limited but solid menu. The oyster omelette tastes pretty good. The glutinous rice flour batter is present throughout, with a solid oyster taste. The batter can be thick/congealed in certain part of the omelette though, so it's not mixed super well. I do like the tong ho or chrysanthemum greens at the bottom versus traditional a-choy (that lettuce texture is whatever imo). The sauce isn't too sweet or in-your-face strong, which gives the whole thing a nice balance. For $13.50, I'd recommend. Popcorn chicken imo has the right amount of marinade. Most boba shops soak them chickens in too strong of a soy sauce (looking at you OG Kikkoman) ginger/garlic marinade that takes away from the juicy chicken taste. This doesn't taste like fried teriyaki chicken. I really like the dipping five spice powder they use, it has a uniquely strong cinnamon/clove taste that I haven't had elsewhere. Clean oil taste with great basil aroma. I'd recommend this for sure. The pork intestines vermicelli tastes good, but not as flavorful as I like it. It has the right thickness in soup and noodle texture (strongest point), but the soup lacks umami that I'm used to. They don't put much intestines (seriously, less than a standard street tripa taco) and cilantro. This soup is best with thick chunks of chewy intestines, but they give chopped up small pieces. At the price of $9.25, go for the oyster vermicelli for a dollar more. It's a traditional Taiwanese taste, portions are on the smaller side, but service is good and food is not oily. Give it a try. I will be back for their shrimp and ground pork noodle.

Typical Taiwanese Chinese foods included fried intestines, oysters noodles, eggs pancake with seafoods, good pork chops... Tasty n delicious very attractive presentation for street foods Taiwanese!! Everything tastes so flavor and don't feel too oily, very tasteful..!!! Golden Leaf is a small street foods shop and only open for 5 days per week!! I think the whole menu is simple n tasty for all items!!!

I used to frequent this Taiwanese restaurant when it first opened, but then I forgot to go because of many new restaurants come out. One day, I suddenly have a craving for Taiwanese food, so I went back and found that their food hadn't changed at all. They taste still the same. The braised rice with pork and soy sauce It really is their signature dish, super delicious. Every single Taiwanese dish is incredibly authentic. Highly recommended! The service was excellent, the staff were friendly, the place was clean, and parking was okay, not too difficult.

Wow can't believe it's been 10 years since I wrote my last review and wanted to update it to 5! I couldn't even remember why I only gave 4 stars but I guess service has improved bc it was great today. Food was amazing as always and tasted so authentic, definitely comparable to Taiwan! My grandma eats here once a week and our entire family loves every dish! I tried the turkey rice for the first time today and don't be fooled by its plain appearance, there's so much good flavor in that dish. The others (minced pork rice, bamboo, vermicelli) were also classics and made really well.

Hi. Does now could be dine in? Thanks 2023. May 19

I think they allow dine in now. My husband went pick up today and saw people eating inside.

Will it open for dine in service in 2/23? As of 1/27/23, owner said they are doing take out only. They have the Taiwanese intestine vermicelli back though! Yay!

    Yes

Are they open for dine in service?

We ordered pick up on 9/16/2021 and no dining in as of that date.

Is this place still open during covid? Called a few times and no one picked up.

Did you call on Monday or Tuesday by any chance? They are closed those days.

Are there any delivery services that pick up from here?

They opened and closed the door for us which was a nice touch because it was busy inside. We ordered the pork ramen, pork buns, and pork soup dumplings. On to the food! Pork Ramen: 3/5 They give you a hefty amount of noodles and pork. They use a thin noodle here which pairs well with the broth. I truly do believe this was around average for ramen as the flavor in the broth was not as strong or savory. The highlight of the entire entree was definitely the pork, which was tender and flavorful. I probably would not order this again. Pork bun: 5/5 The pork buns were soft and fluffy, almost too good looking to eat. There was the right amount of soup and meat inside that made for a wonderful bite full of flavor. Not dry at all. Would recommend ordering this if you visit. Pork Dumplings: 5/5 The star of the show, the dumplings. They were soft and just like the buns, they had the right amount of soup + meat which made for a delicious bite every time. My toddler even ate some and she's usually super picky about meat. Overall, I'd definitely recommend coming here for the other noodles, the dumplings, and buns. You can skip on the ramen. I would 100% come back here to dine in. Quick note that parking gets full pretty quick here.

Apparently Yi Mei has caught wind that fan tuan has experienced a surge of popularity, because taped on the front counter is a paper guide on how to order fan tuan. The fan tuan, by default, will come with youtiao, pork floss, and mustard greens. You choose the type of rice, salty or sweet, the crispiness of the youtiao, and additional fillings. I went with salty, purple rice, an extra crispy youtiao, and added Taiwanese sausage. I also got soy milk and turnip cake. Dine in is available. The vibe inside is casual. Although it was a weekday morning, there were quite a fair amount of people eating here. But, we opted for take out. The worker was very nice and patient with us, helping us through our order as it was our first time.We were given a buzzer and got our food after a short wait. There is a sauce station with garlic sauce, vinegar, chili oil, and other condiments. I grabbed some garlic sauce and a little bit of chili oil. We couldn't wait to try the fan tuan, so we started eating right in front of the restaurant hahaha... The fan tuan is rolled into a tight cylindrical shape, held together by a casing of saran wrap, making it easy to eat with your hands. Peeling back the plastic revealed the glistening grains of purple rice. The texture was amazing. I sunk my teeth into the densely compacted rice layer. Soft, then immediately crunchy! The extra crispy youtiao shatters apart in your mouth, bursting with the flavor of oily, deep-fried bread and complemented by the sweet and savory pork floss. Then, the richness is cut by the crunchy pickled mustard greens. Indulgence. Satiety. Harmony. Balance. The perfect food. And then, add a little garlic sauce. Add a little chili oil. Reality crumbles around you as you realize this perfect dish was nowhere near its peak! The intense garlic flavor seeps into your bloodstream and the answers to the universe flash before your eyes. Chili oil dances on your tongue. Fire. Umami. Your senses awaken. So this is the height of cooking! The 4 noble truths and 8 fold paths open themselves to you. Power surges through your veins! You have achieved enlightenment! FAN TUAN... BEAMMMMMMM!!!! And just like that, the fan tuan in your hands has disappeared. If I were to get this again, I would probably want to add more mustard greens as I did not think there is enough in the default order. It's also worth checking out their other items, as I thoroughly enjoyed the turnip cake. It tasted very fresh, was steaming hot, and so gooey! Needless to say, I will be paying Yi Mei another visit very soon.

Your ex's Taiwanese uncle was the angel investor that jump started Jerry Yang's Yahoo.com. Your other friend's uncle was the VP to Terry Gou founder of Hon Hai Precision's (the company that makes all the iPhones), your friend's dad was locked up in Taiwan because he was the head of the United Bamboo Triads. Every Taiwanese person in LA and the West Coast probably had a 2 degree of separation with everyone else. And so like the Italians, you needed family restaurants to congregate at, and Aghoo precisely is that type of restaurant where Taiwanese Boomers and their children go sit down and have comfort food. This is a school of cooking that many chefs from Mainland China simply cannot replicate today. And there were only a few restaurants in Los Angeles 30 years ago capable of doing it: Happy Family Garden Pacific Plaza 新園餐館, Dumpling King 老夫子 Hacienda Heights Vons Plaza, Sin Bala 新芭樂 Arcadia, and Din Tai Fung 鼎泰豐 Arcadia Location One. That being said, I've always wanted to go back to Taiwan and apprentice under an old school chef and learn this school of stir-fry, you know, carry on the torch. In Taiwan, you used to be able to go to a street stall and order 100 different types of stir fry for dirt cheap, and so the chefs that had the grit to do it became masters at stir fry, authentic green onion beef not that fake Mongolian Beef created for the American Audience...although I equally like the American version. So yes, it was a sigh of relief when I discovered Aghoo. One of the remnants of a lost art form in the diverse world of cuisine. It was survival for the Boomer generation to stand next to a wok all day, to support the business and to support the family. Unlike Italian food, you can't premake Lasagna, Meatballs, marinara sauce and just assemble everything last minute with fresh cooked pasta. No, Taiwanese stir fry is bittersweet hard labor....very mechanical in nature, and the chef needs to understand all the inputs. So these days, Jurassic Restaurant has closed, Uncle Yu's 印第安啤酒屋 had shut down. Leaving.....Aghoos? And yes, Eat Joy in Rowland Heights. Come to think about it, if you take out Din Tai Fung from the picture, these are the last of the Mohicans..... I'll end here with my walk down memory lane. You want the Taiwanese version of that Italian style Family sit down restaurant, this is it. This is where you will find all the Taiwanese Aunties and Uncles that probably own 10,000 shares of TSMC, 30,000 shares of NVDA, and Jensen Huang eating quietly in the corner.

Fried Red Yeast Pork Belly: Wanted to try something interesting and new, and this was a fun choice. Very interesting and also heats back up well in an oven. Service was friendly. I can't help but feel like they could optimize their table layout a lot better, and perhaps bring in an additional server - there ends up being a very long wait for 2-4 person groups. I watched as some groups ended up changing their order to go because they had waited so long. Street parking outside.

The staff also wears gloves when handling food. There are some hand sanitizers available for customers to use. This place is available for take outs and has no indoor & outdoor seating available with limited capacity. They are only doing To Go orders. They are not sanitizing in between customers. COVID-19 Vaccination Proof: This establishment currently does not require proof of vaccination. While I was grabbing my food from this establishment last month, I asked if they had any special offers and they weren't offering any at the moment. They currently don't have happy hour. They also do not allow pets in their establishment UNLESS it's a service animal. Parking: The parking lot for this establishment is pretty big. They do share the lot with several other establishments. The lot doesn't really get busy, so you shouldn't have any problems with finding parking. I did notice that some spots are smaller than others. Food: I ordered a mild spicy popcorn chicken and minced bowl/ plate. The popcorn chicken was very flavorful, crunchy, tender, and juicy. Big portion for like $10. The Taiwanese seasoning mix brought me right back to the night markets to Taiwan. It's truly the 5 spice powder that hits the spot. The batter wasn't thick, so the chicken didn't taste very battery/ cakey. That's what I hate about some places that make popcorn chicken. It also wasn't too spicy for me. It was just right. I ordered the minced bowl, which is actually a plate. For like $12, it was actually pretty good and the portions was huge. The boiled / blanched cabbage and broccoli were soft, sweet, and tasty. I could taste the sesame oil on it. It wasn't salty. The sweet corn and diced juicy tomatoes combo was good too. The boiled tea egg was pretty delicious. You can actually taste the tea and soy sauce. The egg was nice and soft. And now, for the braised minced pork. The pork was very delicious and it just melted in my mouth. I love that there were some fatty pieces of pork too in the dish. It balanced out some of the pieces of pork, which had too much meat in it. Definitely a very savory and rich dish. Omg and the sauce from the braised minced pork drizzled over the rice was just so perfect! It made the rice extremely delectable. This is hands down one of my favorite Taiwanese dishes, and it was made perfectly. Staff: The staff here are very friendly, welcoming, and kind. They are closing this restaurant down in February 2026 due to rising rent and the landlord's unwillingness to upgrade the place. So sad. I'm seriously upset to see this place go. They accept both cash and credit cards. There is a $20 credit card minimum.

I've only had their drinks and popcorn chicken in the past, which were decent. I called in a pickup order and the food was ready in about ten minutes. As of 12/06/25, they currently do not offer dine in and are only doing takeout. I ordered the Railroad Pork Chop, which is the traditional Taiwanese style where the chop is marinated and grilled or pan seared instead of fried. It came with rice and two veggie sides, and everything tasted fresh. The pork chop was flavorful and tender, and the marinade went perfectly with the rice. Overall, a pretty solid meal and I would definitely come back for it again. Not many places still make the railroad style pork chop like this, so it's worth trying if you're a fan.

SinBala - Arcadia…read more SinBala is one of the rare Taiwanese restaurants that has stood the test of time. I grew up eating here. There used to be several locations across Southern California, and I'm glad the Arcadia location is still here. Every visit brings back memories. I come for the Taiwanese classics that are becoming harder to find. The popcorn chicken is still one of my favorites--crispy, fragrant, and seasoned the way Taiwanese street vendors do it. The Taiwanese meatball soup is comforting, and the Taiwanese sausage always reminds me of night markets back home. What I appreciate most is that SinBala doesn't just serve street food. It brings those familiar flavors into a warm, home-style setting. It's nostalgic without trying too hard. Before you leave, save room for dessert. Their shaved ice is a must. I always recommend the brown sugar shaved ice topped with five mochi or boba. It's refreshing, not overly sweet, and the perfect ending to a meal. Taiwanese food is often overshadowed by other regional Chinese cuisines, but places like SinBala remind me how unique it really is. Simple, comforting, and full of character. I'm grateful this little piece of Taiwan is still here.

From the outside, you can't tell the inside has really good space with booths plus tables and chairs, but it does. They weren't super busy at the time... about 5 tables occupied. I was greeted right away by the one server who was working the entire floor. Interior was clean and well lit. Atmosphere was comfortable. Menu has a variety of options... boiled dumplings, pan-fried dumplings, steamed mini buns, stir-fried noodles, regular noodles, rolls & pancakes, side dishes, rice, soup, and beverages. They also have frozen food to-go (just two items... dumplings and dezhou chicken). I got one Steamed Mini Buns (aka Xiao Long Bao), one Stir-Fried Noodles with pork, one Lamb Noodles Soup (with hand torn noodles), and one Jasmine Green Tea with honey. Yes, this seems like a lot of food for one person. I'm not a stranger to bringing food home for another meal. *Steamed Mini Buns - juicy with flavorful pork filling, adequate skin thickness, good size buns *Stir-Fried Noodles with pork - best dish out of the 3, good balance between pork, veggies, and noodles, mild spice level was perfect, portions were reasonable for the price *Lamb Noodles Soup - great amount of lamb and noodles, lamb was tender, noodles were a tad mushy on the edge... they need to be firmer, soup was savory *Jasmine Green Tea with honey - good size cup, tea was a bit bitter, probably needs more honey Food came out steaming hot and timely. Staff and service were wonderful. Yan, the server, was patient and helpful. He did an amazing job working the entire floor by himself. Thank you Yan! Highly recommend this place for their pan-dried and soup noodles. I would come back for more pan-fried noodles and try their pan-fried dumplings. The minced pork with noodles (aka Jia Jiang mien) is also good. For this visit, I did not order dumplings. But their dumplings are usually good. The service is adequate but don't expect good service.
